That voice! One of the most unique in history! Anyone can recognize a mile away! The feel of this band was never surpassed. They had a couple incarnations and all good.
Loves this version, what an amazing talent, the whole band is awesome. This is Michael earlier years with the band, when he was replacing the original vocal that was ill Tom Johnston. Thank you Jamal I enjoy watching you watching such beautiful music.
Who doesn’t love the Church of Michael McDonald! He is pours his soul into every song he sings. Thanks for playing the live video to witness his keyboard skills. Their sound is tangible!
Yaaasss!!! Michael Mc!!! Master!!! Doobie Brothers the band on a while. The group itself ona whatsinever ever! I know I had the album. Im a 64 year youngn' black hippy. These songs never die. Never. These guys, Journey, Boston, EWF, Van Halen, The Eagles etc. RAW talent artists and MUSICIANS.
I think today, music executives are more concerned with physical appearance than musical ability. With all the technology, they can make anyone sound good, but they can't make anyone look good. This is also my favorite era of music. It's all so original and authentic. It comes from the heart, not a machine. There a few artists today that transcend, but not many.
So proud of being a kid who grew up in the seventies and eighties and having music like this and similar to this to be the background of the story of My Life. A time when real singers, with real talent were making real music! So glad I was there to see it, listen to it, and experience it firsthand! This type of music has definitely lasted and stood the test of time...and still sound Fantastic... lol! 🤗🎶 With all the music reviews I see younger people, such as yourself doing these days, it gives me hope that future generations will be able to learn again with real music sounds like and to be able to experience it within their own generations music! 🙂

My favorite song by the Doobies, they are my favorite band still listening in 2024 and I turn 74 this year! Michael McDonald is my favorite male vocalist
I once heard someone say that Michael McDonald has a voice that women want to make love with. He didn’t actually say “make love with”, but you get the idea!
Jamel, you do what you can about getting reactions out and we’ll be patient. We know you have a life to live as well so don’t worry about us. I’m just glad you’re enjoying the ride! Us old souls need to stick together to keep this wonderful music alive!
Jamel’s comments are 100% spot on. In the 70’s, many featured recording artists played their own instruments and could sing just as well in a live concert as they did on the record. ( just as M. McDonald did here). So glad that Jamel used the live concert video for this song! Being able to perform at this level required undergoing a ton of musical training, commitment, and thousands of hours of practicing. Much respect to these musicians and singers from a previous era.
Hey, just found your channel love what your doing I consider myself a HUGE 60's - 90's fan, just thought I would suggest some songs I doubt you have heard, or that I haven't seen you review.
1.) Tin Man, or Another Try - America 2.) Band on the Run, or Nineteen hundred and eighty five - Paul McCartney and the Wings 3.) A Whiter Shade of Pale - Procol Harum 4.) December 1963 - Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons 5.) Sail On, or Easy - The Commodores
My Love’s Leavin’ - breathtaking heartbreak. While You See A Chance (100%, Winwood) - If you’ve heard this song, you’ve watched the sun come up Higher Love - Some Chaka Khan in the background. Takes over the song at the finish.
Yep, Winwood has a GREAT blue eyed smooth soul voice. While You See a Chance, Arc of a Diver, Low Spark etc. And don't forget his great stuff from the Go project with Stomu Yamashta, ie Crossing the Line, Winner/Loser, great progressive rock.
I was 18 in 1972. I love reliving the music that I cherished through your perspective. Rock, pop, funk, blues, my generation was surrounded and spoiled for choice with such incredible music. And, as you point out, no auto-tune.
Thank you for your breakdown of this song and your heartfelt feelings about this music. The comparison to the today’s music to the virtuosity of the 1970s music really warms my heart that you understand the difference between the decades. Thanks sweetie !
Hey Jamal, I really appreciate what you are doing and why you're doing it. I'm 66 and love listening to all these great songs along with you. Many of them I haven't heard since the seventies. And some are completely new to me. So thank you for doing what you're doing. Keeping the music alive. Peace.

This is my favorite song by the Doobies. It touches the Soul to someone you once cared about and has a gospel yet melancholy feel, as it was a time so innocent, yet so long ago. Takes me back to my younger days as a young man with not a care in the world. God Bless Jamel my Brother from another Mother.........Peace
That intro he plays sounded like the intro to “Minute by Minute”. Auto-tune ruined music. Everybody sounds good using A-tune. Therefore, the music industry didn’t have to find real talent like Michael McDonald and the Doobie Brothers. That’s why most of today’s popular music sounds like crap.
I love your reference too a old soul.Young people have old souls. They can see things and feel things. U gotta live ur life, no ones going anywhere. Appreciate all the good vibes u spread. And the positivity. Have a great day.
Let's not forget that a lot of these auto tune performers use a ton of backing tracks live as well. Remember when Milli Vanilli was a scandal? By today's standards, that was tame. Business as usual even.
That is why I love Grace Vanderwaal, the 12 year old(Now 16) who won America's Got Talent....she writes her own music and refuses to lip sync or use auto tune....she is special and I hope Jamal will listen to some of her stuff some day. I was so happy when he joined this band. I especially when turned gray.
He was graying at 25.. Pretty sure he is 26-27 here in this video..
'Skunk' Baxter on that solo.
He played with a few bands.
Now he works for defense contractors
Cool dude to talk to as well.
Met him at a NAMM show. A really nice guy. Also played with Steely Dan. And Michael sings on some Steely Dan tunes. Just listen to Peg.
@@mikelawson6456 and had a muppet fashioned in his likeness
Some folks resented it when Michael McDonald came into the Doobie Brothers and changed their direction. Me, I think he elevated them
Also, they should remember, MM didn't barge in, he was invited to join.
You're such a nice man, Jamal. Thanks for being so genuine.
Just finished listening to your comments I know this was a while ago but it holds true about music today. Everything sound manufactured. The package is more important than the music. And that's where I tap out !!!
Yes some Throwbackness. 🎧🎶. Michael McDonald at the helm. This live version sounds so good. Thanks Jamel. Real talent for real! The sink or swim analogy is perfect
Thank you for appreciating this guy and his band. Imagine…these dudes are still singing and they are old enough to be your g-pa!
Jamal
Speaking of Jeff "Skunk" Baxter, he has an interesting second career after Doobie Brothers, Jeff does classified work for national security and government. Stuff that are off limits for those who don't have top to ultra top clearances.
I watched a video about that. I love it when musicians turn out to be major brains.
Whah?!
That's cool and interesting
That voice! One of the most unique in history! Anyone can recognize a mile away! The feel of this band was never surpassed. They had a couple incarnations and all good.
your doing a great job brother and if you keep reacting to music like this i predict a million by christmas
I watched this last night. So good! I had to watch it again today. Chills all over. This man taking us to church. Love it.
It's about time they got into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame 💪😎 2020
Reliving my youth with with these amazing tunes I am 76 yrs old, and enjoying every reaction videos!
The face and voice of an angel!! Love Michael!!
That man's voice still turns me on. Hell, just looking at him still turns me on.💙🌿💚
I think today, music executives are more concerned with physical appearance than musical ability.
This type of music has definitely lasted and stood the test of time...and still sound Fantastic... lol! 🤗🎶
With all the music reviews I see younger people, such as yourself doing these days, it gives me hope that future generations will be able to learn again with real music sounds like and to be able to experience it within their own generations music! 🙂
Jamel: you have saved me over these past several months!! Watching your reactions to the greasiest music ever made brings me back to the first time I heard these songs. Your joy and enthusiasm makes me smile each time I watch a post. I can’t thank you enough!! Please keep them coming!!
Both incarnations of The Doobie Brothers were pretty damn good.
That was actually said by one of McDonald's former Doobie Brothers band mates- I think Keith Knudsen or John Hartman I believe...
And he’s gorgeous.
I agree with you, love both versions of the Doobie Brothers. Celebrate diversity!
Jamel, you do what you can about getting reactions out and we’ll be patient. We know you have a life to live as well so don’t worry about us.
I’m just glad you’re enjoying the ride! Us old souls need to stick together to keep this wonderful music alive!
So freaking awesome!!!!! No auto tune!!! He has a beautiful voice!!! I've always loved him!!!!!!!
"What A Fool Believes" is another good song from Michael McDonald.
One of my favorites.
1.) Tin Man, or Another Try - America
2.) Band on the Run, or Nineteen hundred and eighty five - Paul McCartney and the Wings
3.) A Whiter Shade of Pale - Procol Harum
4.) December 1963 - Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons
5.) Sail On, or Easy - The Commodores
"Band on the run" is one of my staple albums that live in my car..
A whiter shade of pale, incredible
I am glad you finally listened too minute by minute, thanks fof playing that
Jamel, It must be time to put on brother Steve Winwood.
Talkin' Back to the Night and Arc of a Diver for me please...
Especially some of the Spencer Davis Group days.
Traffic stuff too, a lot there
My Love’s Leavin’ - breathtaking heartbreak.
While You See A Chance (100%, Winwood) - If you’ve heard this song, you’ve watched the sun come up
Higher Love - Some Chaka Khan in the background.
And, as you point out, no auto-tune.
we are here for the long-haul, Jamel, so we will be here when you get around to everything you will react to.
I was born in 1966 so I was blessed to be growing up and listening to the music of the 70's and 80's. It was a magical time and won't be duplicated!
Thank you for your breakdown of this song and your heartfelt feelings about this music. The comparison to the today’s music to the virtuosity of the 1970s music really warms my heart that you understand the difference between the decades. Thanks sweetie !
The background!!!!!!!!! The harmony is perfect and smooth!!!!! Notice it's only one brother in there!!!!
Hey Jamal, I really appreciate what you are doing and why you're doing it. I'm 66 and love listening to all these great songs along with you. Many of them I haven't heard since the seventies. And some are completely new to me. So thank you for doing what you're doing. Keeping the music alive. Peace.
Keeps you running so sweet. His voice is so calming and clear. I got to see him at a park. I’m 68 and love all the songs you give us. I love soul and R&B. Thank you so much lifting me up everyday!
Michael has a "unique" soulful voice with a lot of "feeling" and the power and pitch!!!!
I agree.
Compared to the real deal, autotune sucks. Then, real talent was required.
Check out her channel. It has stuff from the AGT show up to her newest....some really good stuff there in her latest EP album ua-cam.com/channels/2qc1KM4zgRoOpysqVEaNbw.html
This may be my favorite commentary of yours yet! You really nailed it when you mentioned the fact that pure talent was a necessity for an artist’s career back then. Thank you for keeping your channel going to spread joy and enlightenment. IT KEEPS US RUNNING! Your journey continues to now do a reaction to the Doobie Bros. “REAL LOVE” You will melt in ecstasy!!!
Lawd have mercy. That man gives me goosebumps. 💞
This is the music I grew up with!! Amen! Born in 65, so I got to experience the best music from the 50's (from my parents) then 60's-late 80's. Best music ever. Growing up in that era was the best. I wish my grandson was Growing up then!! All of the technology is a bit much. We played outside all day and listened to music at night. Also, great TV on(that your dad chose) Barney Miller, Archie Bunker, Hogan's Heroes, Carol Burnett show, Sonny and Cher show, Laughin...Best years ever!!!!
"Skunk" Baxter on guitar solo. You heard him with Steely Dan.
Michael was with Steely Dan before the Doobie Brothers.
i was so lucky to grow up with Doobie Brothers and this gorgeous voice that stirred my soul to know soul music in a white world. Still today it brings me back to the heart of what really matters to me but I'm still runnin....
All praise the sweet-soulful pipes of Michael McDonald 🙏 That mans voice was sexy AF.
Jamal I absolutely love your reaction!!! Much love❤❤
Loved so much by my mama RIP.
I love this song but bruh, every time I want to hear it now, it MUST be this version! Can't get enough.
