"Country singer singing a r&b blues type song." If that doesn't describe Chris Stapleton I don't know what does. The man doesn't really have a genre, but I think that's the best description ever.
You’re exactly right he’s from the hills of Eastern Kentucky, Born in Lexington but raised in Staffordsville Kentucky, We are so very proud of this young man, a really wonderful person!!
I said the exact same thing when I heard those strings kick in and yes the orchestra is what makes it sound like a bond theme and orchestral blues Bond theme I think if he did sing a bond theme; the Brits would go nuts they would definitely love it
That's the best way to listen to music. You either like it or you don't. It doesn't matter what they look like. Chris can sing an old country ballad or a R&B Soul Blues song.
Chris is one of those musicians that comes along once in several decades that stands above most others as far as sheer talent goes. Chris and Vince Gill are friends.
lol my first thought as well. But then Vince isn't todays "Country". We are old. So are Vince and the Eagles. The high lonesome sound is niche nowadays.
This is the first time I ever heard Chris Stapleton. I'm old school and outlaw country, (Hank Williams Sr, George Jones, Marty Robbins, Hank Jr, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, David Allen Coe). I gotta hear more of Chris Stapleton. Man that was good. I felt that. Been there.
Oh man, there's so much to discover with Chris Stapleton ! "ARKANSAS" LIVE AT CMT AWARDS "NOBODY TO BLAME" LIVE AT CMA AWARDS "WHISKEY AND YOU" LIVE AT CMA AWARDS "EITHER WAY" LIVE AT CMA AWARDS "WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TOO" LIVE AT RADIO STATION AND OF COURSE "TENNESSEE WHISKEY" LIVE AT AUSTIN CITY LIMITS... just a few for a start❤
Finally, a "country" singer that makes music that's listenable. Stapleton is a beast. When you bring out the blues underpinnings like Stapleton does, it elevates everything.
I am 73 and have always been a huge fan of the blues and not so much country. Took me years to finally realize that those two genre's are very much related. Just coming from different cultures.
THANK YOU for doing this one again! You BOTH are fun to watch! It's really difficult to "classify" Chris Stapleton into a specific genre of music. But I don't really care! He's great no matter what genre he's in! Thank you again!
Thank you so much! I have heard of Chris Stapleton in passing, but never listened to him, but I am BLOWN AWAY!!! WOW!!! Someone mentioned that he has a cover for. "It's a man's world" and I can't wait to hear that!!! Please let us hear it. 🙏🏼😊
The more I listen to "Cold"... the more I get serious Ready Charles vibes... especially with the orchestra strings in the background. Stapleton is just amazing.
This is for the host of this channel. This is my first time coming across your channel. I stopped by to listen, because I'm a fan of Chris Stapleton's. And while I'm impressed with his music, in particular, this song, I must say that I'm equally impressed with you. Your ability to articulate your interaction is verbally clear and intelligent. I hope that all the black, young men who are subscribed to your channel are taking note. Thank you for being such an outstanding example for them 👏 😀
Wilson Pickett is one of my favorite soul singers and I think his voice is raspy. Chris's guitar playing reminds me of B.B. King in this song and I love B. B. also
LoL ... 'That band is SICK!, that band is Sick...' ... *Mr. L Boyd glances to the camera with that knowing grin* 'Oh, is that right?' Hahahhahahaha. Love it, man.
Chris Stapleton is so amazing! Old school country and blues are truly enmeshed together at the heart of it all. I am happy that Chris brings both to the table in such a phenomenal way.
He has been writing and selling his songs for years, then he decided it was time to go public and start performing, his wife does a lot of his backups. His voice is AMAZING!!! We had Willie and Fam tickets with Merle performing and Merle passed away a week before, CS actually showed up to the concert and opened surprising us all!!! I'm not a Fan Girl, but BOY was I Fan Girling for an hour, it was amazing!!! Best voice in the past 40 years of music if you ask me. Smile😊
This is generally my thoughts on Chris 'blues, southern rock, rockabilly, bluegrass, country (85% Outlaw Country/15% 'Mainstream' Country), soul' all together, there's an element of each of those in his body & soul. I know why he's classified Country, I just don't think there's a box to put him in 100%
Mr. B, I can’t believe how much pleasure it gave me to watch your face watching your cousin. Your smile lit up my night and your cousin was amazing! He really nailed the most important aspects of the song. I loved it and I hope you do more.
What a fun way to introduce someone to Chris Stapleton's music. Be sure to tell your cousin when he listens to Tenn. Whiskey it' should be the live version from Austin City Limits.
Dude your cousin has an amazing speaking voice. He needs to do voice overs. Both of your diction is perfect and so impressive. You should introduce him to louis Armstrong "what a wonderful world"
I find it funny that he says he looks like ZZ Top but sounds nothing like em, but Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top has a really raspy voice like Chris. ZZ Top is also a big musical influence of Chris'.
I love watching the reactions of his music. I try to watch everyday and it warms my heart for humanity to see how many different people see it the same way i do. He has transcended many peoples lives and it’s amazing to watch.
This was a brilliant way to do this reaction because if you never heard him sing before or seen him it's nearly impossible to imagine its a country white guy. Another great reaction as always sir keep up the great work!
He has a lot of phenomenal music already. I hope you'll check out "I Was Wrong." Before he went soio he played and sang in The Jompson Brothers... reminded me of the old southern rock at times, but hit some Zepplinesque grooves too. "On The Run,'" "Inside Your Head" and "Barely Alive" are personal favorites. I've also heard them do "The River' live, another favorite, and them there's "Whiskey And You." Dig in and you'll probably find a lot to love! Oh, he also played in the Bluegrass band "The Steel Drivers" before the Jompson Brothers. There's been a LOT of soulful music come from those eastern KY mountains, and we're proud of all of them. Might be a hard place to come up in, but some beautiful, wonderful people!! Thank you for this post and please keep them coming!
I've been a subscriber for a while now and I think this is my favourite one. Very creative and cool. Your brother got it out of the gate! Big Texas Hugs y'all!
Chris Stapleton is not really a country singer, he's a blues singer that sings some country songs. Listen to most of his songs, blues or heavily blues influence.
Mr. L Boyd, THANK YOU .. thank you, for introducing me to Chris Stapleton !! I'll be going down the Stapleton rabbit hole in the coming time. Absolutely amazing music and artist. Loved your reaction and face when the guitar solo hit at 5:35 :D
30 years ago a cd called Country, Rythm, and Blues provided a nice mix showing the correlation of the genres. Check out the duet with Travis Tritt and Patti Labelle "When something is wrong with my baby."
This was so cool. I love love this by Chris Stapleton ..my fav. thus far of all ive heard kf his music. Such soul i get chills listening. He has such a gifted way of emitting the soul and feel of the songs he sings.😊thx
Beautiful, just feeling the vibe, blindfold and all. You too MR.BOYD, first time hearing this song and I'm grooving with you. Love it, another great reaction.
I seen your reaction to Chris and watching you watch your cousin was gleeful. You know whats coming and are just waiting for him to get his mind blown. His smile says it all! He got Stapleton'ed!!!
Country/rhythm & blues is how country music listeners would classify chris stapleton. Definitely, notes and rhythm of the blues combined with country are the best way I can describe it.
If you’re gonna play Chris Stapleton for someone who’s not heard him before you got to hit ‘em with “sometimes I cry” that’s the move.
Yes!
Yep!
Couldn't thumps up this hard enough.
FACT.
Facts
"Country singer singing a r&b blues type song." If that doesn't describe Chris Stapleton I don't know what does. The man doesn't really have a genre, but I think that's the best description ever.
😊
Agreed, the guy lives in no musical box.
Ray Charles was a R&B singer that sometimes sang country
Exactly!
To be fair this is a straight up blues song. It doesn't get more blues
Stapelton's rendition The Star Spangled Banner is indescribable. There are no words.
I don't believe that any other singer in any genre can ever top Chris Stapletons version. Beyond words
That is the only version of the anthem I've gone back and watched multiple times. It was absolutely perfect
I agree 100% That was absolutely perfectly done.
Listening to it even now, gives me chills. No wonder it moved grown men to tears. That is the way a National Anthem should be sung.
I'll look it up.
Thank you.
Chris’s voice is a once in a lifetime thank God we all get to hear it
You’re exactly right he’s from the hills of Eastern Kentucky, Born in Lexington but raised in Staffordsville Kentucky, We are so very proud of this young man, a really wonderful person!!
Hearing this, I can honestly see Stapleton singing the next James Bond film opening credits sequence.
He would be great for that!
The orchestra is what's makes the bond sound
I said the exact same thing when I heard those strings kick in and yes the orchestra is what makes it sound like a bond theme and orchestral blues Bond theme I think if he did sing a bond theme; the Brits would go nuts they would definitely love it
Oh that'd be epic!!!
Brilliant 😍
If Al Green came out with this song in the 70's no one would have batted an eye, and it would have been a number one hit.
Technology is crucial in this scenario.
@@Kc_jjjit isn’t when it is a live performance.
@@AlwaysRight760 would gods plan be that famous without technology?
@ no he wouldn’t. But we’re not talking about that idiot
Mr. Boyd, you can bring back that cousin anytime you want. I'd love to watch him experience Tennessee Whiskey for the first time. Awesome!
Chris Stapleton sang for the bluegrass band The SteelDrivers from 2007 - 2010. So yes, you are correct with the bluegrass reference in his style.
This and everyone forgets the Jompson Brothers album, some of the best rock ballads ever sung.
He also grew up in Kentucky, which has deep Blue Grass roots.
@@brettpolach1687so agree!!
"That boy got on cowboy boots"... He ain't wrong
I couldn't help but laugh when he said that.
I laughed too, he was so right!
I don't know if you've seen it, or if your cousin has, but Chris Stapletons, Sometimes I Cry, is amazing.
Yea man..the very early live version of it is one of the greatest live performances of all time
CrrrrrYyyyyyyYyyy
"Country music ain't nothin but 3 chords and the truth". This man is the living proof of that concept.
Speaking nothing but the truth.
I love the way you did this. Not letting him see him at first then when he sees him 🤌🏻
That's the best way to listen to music. You either like it or you don't. It doesn't matter what they look like. Chris can sing an old country ballad or a R&B Soul Blues song.
Chris Stapleton music pull feelings from deep inside your soul. You get chills and tears while he is expressing his hurt.
Chris is one of those musicians that comes along once in several decades that stands above most others as far as sheer talent goes.
Chris and Vince Gill are friends.
What a way to introduce your cousin to Chris Stapleton! Do more blind introductions!
That man’s voice always gives me goosebumps! Tennessee Whiskey is a favorite of mine and I need to see that reaction.
BB King and many other blues singers have the rasp. Chris sounds more country because of his twang.
“Country male singer don’t go to high” -Vince Gill is offended 😂
lol my first thought as well. But then Vince isn't todays "Country". We are old. So are Vince and the Eagles. The high lonesome sound is niche nowadays.
so is Chris 😆.....the vocal runs this man does, wow!
Bryan White
Vince Gill ❤
Imagine him hearing Ralph Stanley.
Thank you for introducing me to this artist, I'm not a country western fan, but this is golden. BTW, Stapleton is the guy playing the guitar.
This was so much fun to watch!!! Thanks for sharing this!!! Wait until your cousin hears Tennessee Whiskey when Chris hits the high notes!!!!!!
I was blown away
This is the first time I ever heard Chris Stapleton. I'm old school and outlaw country, (Hank Williams Sr, George Jones, Marty Robbins, Hank Jr, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, David Allen Coe). I gotta hear more of Chris Stapleton. Man that was good. I felt that. Been there.

I love Chris Stapleton. I think his best is , you oughta leave.
His version of the national anthem was just pure emotions
His wife also sings! They sound amazing together ❤
Your choice has changed my mind about Country Western music. I’m in love with his music
Chris is his own genre. He is ALL of it!!!

He and Ray Charles
And Sturgill Simpson.
Chris Stapleton has a voice of his own. LOVE HIS VOICE THAT GIVES ME CHILLS 😍
Finally, a "country" singer that makes music that's listenable. Stapleton is a beast. When you bring out the blues underpinnings like Stapleton does, it elevates everything.
100%
You obviously haven't listened to enough country music. Chris is fantastic but many before him could lay it down too.
@ I assume that you're correct. But, to your point, I haven't heard any others like him. Any suggestions for listening/education?

@thomasstengel7356 I threw together a list to make it easy. Larry Fleet has been my go to lately.
Live at the Bing Lounge, just Chris and his guitar, singing Sometimes I Cry.
Dude, your cousin is nailing these blind reactions.
Seems like you have a good relationship with your cousin. Good cousins are a Godsend. Loved that you introduced him to Chris.
I am 73 and have always been a huge fan of the blues and not so much country. Took me years to finally realize that those two genre's are very much related. Just coming from different cultures.
Amazing ear to understand what kind talent he’s listening to. Literally explained exactly who he’s listening to. Well done! Amazing ear
I didn't quit smiling the entire time!! Being a native of Tennessee and a true Southern Belle, I can say...y'all that boy can sing!!
As the smile got wider as the song progressed was awesome.
Cousin has a really good ear. He guessed a lot right while blind folded!
He does have a great ear for music
He is on point. Nice ears!
You should do this more often. I love his reaction to Chris. I love things like this.

Chris mentioned once he loves Ray.
“Because HE is country, that’s why THIS is country..” 👏 well said!
This is blues but country is the only genre that envelopes the blues for a place to record and a home

Was a lead singer for the bluegrass band The Steeldrivers. Then also had a rock band called The Jompson Brothers also.
"That boy got on Cowboy boots".... Love it!!!
Yes he does...
So far he has nailed Angelina Jordan being a kid and Chris Stapleton being a country singer. Pretty good ear, I'd say.
He got Pete and Bas being older guys too
Absolutely!!

Yes indeed, "that boy got on cowboy boots". Loved, loved this reaction, and your prresentation.
Wow, Cous nailed it! Except for the singer and guitarist being different people. Loved this
I love this blindfold stuff… ears hear many things the eyes don’t recognize.

Truly a great appreciation and reaction.
He nailed so many great points, and was impressive how “on point” he was!!
I sooo like that Chris Stapleton is starting to add a little more depth to his pieces. He is so freaking talented.
Chris can certainly hit high notes. I would suggest the song "Higher" as proof
