The tone is gross, but we're talking about death metal here. It's not supposed to sound gentle in my humble opinion ! Also Dick Lövgren gets away with such tone because he's an amazing player. But still, it's a f*cking wall of sound. :')

In their older albums the bass was way more present to fill in the mids but now Dick (their bassist) still does the same thing but the bass is much quieter. I will admit the bass on its own does get a bit grating.
