Having gotten a friend into the game and getting a reason to return, I've never had so much trouble just picking and sticking with a character in a game before. I absolutely love just about half the cast, haha. My favorite choices are Voldo and Amy. Voldo is the coolest character I've seen in any fighting game, and his robust and whacky moveset with his stances wildly changing how he approaches playing without ever feeling like too much of a wall... it just hits right. Amy's great buttons and awesome callout tools feel perfect, and that's discounting the absurd power she gains with perception. Also, the roses are just rad in both concept and execution. She puts defense into her offense in incredibly satisfying ways I don't see often. Other characters I want to play more of would be Cervantes, Nightmare, Sieg, Cass, and Tira. The latter two I picked up today because of the sale right now, and Cass has a great chance at making into my favs. Haven't gotten to trying Tira yet. Cervantes feels like a very well rounded character, though I struggle to form a good gameplan with him. Sieg's stance game is so cool but is too hard to parse for me. Nightmare hits my usual playstyle of big normals space bully with some added stance spice, but is just a touch too slow for me to get behind fully.
Welcome back to the stage of history! Majority of SCVI's cast is great. Voldo & Amy are both quite strong. Particularly the latter. Red rose perception Amy is a beast. Cervantes, Siegfried, Nightmare, Cassie and Tira are also all quite strong. Cassandra is a safe poker and grappler (not many of those in SC), along with being pretty fast. Tira is a safe poker in Jolly, and an offensive monster in Gloomy stance (particularly the charged up version called "Gloomy Coda"). For Cervantes, you want to poke at mid range then whiff punish with iGDR at range (instant Geo Del Ray (spelling?)). Siegfried's all about flowing with his "stance dance". Look at his stances and see how they flow. You can poke with Sieg and the same range as Cerv (though Sieg naturally hits harder). Nightmare likes to fight at Cerv's iGDR range, looking for a whiff then either punishing or using the advantage to get in and apply guard pressure (not as good a mix-up game like Sieg in comparison, so you can bully opponents with guard pressure, chip damage and throws when at advantage.)
@@ForceofNature99 yeah, really digging Tira now that I've gotten around to it. Thinking I just dig the tradeoff style stance characters a lot. They feel like they put more meaning behind decisions to go into stance. Rng stance changes are curious to optimize though, especially with a lot of Jolly's mood switches being attached to defensive tools or sacrificing already limited damage. That's saying nothing of Gloomy's options to maximize damage at the cost of going to Jolly frequently. I do feel like I'm bad at putting Gloomy to use, though. I kinda struggle being proactive in this game, so I feel like I'm wasting the better buttons playing the same defensive game as Jolly but with a bit more bite.

Hwang is in my opinion intermediate, he is and feels intermediate. Bc a lot of beginners make the mistake of overusing his Talisman so you have to really play him a lot to understand his different stances, auras and playstyle and how to use his talisman effectively so he’s definitely not a character you can jump into and dominate with him
He's definitly not intermediate and you can jump in with him. He's just a plain beginner friendly character. His whole kit is easy to punish/evade. Just because he got stances doesnt mean he's intermediate. Kilik/Xiianghua got stances and everything and are in category beginner because they are easy to play and lack damage. You have to work hard to be effective. Meanwhile Hwang is not rewarding.
@@royal8808 If you just jump in with Hwang you’re not gonna be dominating immediately, gotta learn good pokes, how to be safe with him, good use of Talismans, gotta know what auras do. And Kilik is beginner bc he has 2 stances and is very straight forward. Xia is a bit beginner bc she’s just so fast and easy to pick up but also requires you to be more flexible with her stances to get the most out of it. Like when I learned Kilik and Xia I immediately was pretty good with them bc they’re straight forward, Xia was a little harder to be very effective with her stances. But Hwang when I started learning him, I was overusing his talismans and not focusing enough on smallcalibur and I wasn’t being safe with him. But now after some time I got him down pretty good so that’s why I believe he’s not beginner bc you can’t just jump in with him and be good bc you’re hurting yourself if you play Hwang like a beginner
@@SiebeSC Sorry but you can really dominate with him by jumping in because he's easy and plain. No skill required. He's just another spamable character just like a Kilik/Xianghua. And playing safe is with every character important. Still wont change the fact that he's a easy beginner character. There is seriously no skill needed to play a Hwang. You can play him save without abusing alot of his auras or you can go beserk with him with the risk of risking lifebar. Thats just part of the character. And thats exactly what makes him a beginner character..very plain and no gameplan. You can spam the shit out of him the auras and stances are optional. He is very noob friendly just like a Kilik and Xiang. And we can discuss about it but he's still labeled as 'Beginner' and he definitly is. ~Comes from someone maining Hilde.
@@royal8808 That’s the whole thing, you can’t spam on him, yeah you can play only smallcalibur but that is possible on every character. If you spam to much on him you’re hurting urself and making yourself lose. So then there is a gameplan, use talismans and auras to your advantage but don’t overuse them because otherwise you’re extremely vulnerable to losing rounds. So yeah his movelist maybe easy to jump in and be labeled as beginner, but I feel wanting to play him good is intermediate. I’ve seen countless Hwangs overusing his talismans and not knowing what auras do and what the benefits of them are, such as what lethal hits they give or what they do in general. I’ve learned Hwang as like a 4th character and I had to do some research on everything including his auras talisman usage, to not just spam it but use it as a damage extender and not spamming it. (+ Hwang is very unsafe so as a beginner you make that error often, extending his mixups that put you in a frame disadvantage). Bc beginners are really bad with him. You need to use a mix of smallcalibur with safe pokes and fast attacks but also use his talismans where needed without hurting urself. As a beginner you would more likely go to a character like Kilik, Cassandra or Mitsurugi. They have 1 thing going for them and that’s it. Hwang doesn’t he’s a bit more complicated than real beginner characters. It’s clear to me you’ve never played Hwang. I’ve played both easy and hard characters such as Xia and Kilik but also Setsuka and even Hilde. I can tell characters like Hilde and Setsuka are advanced to extremely advanced just bc of everything they have going for them. ~Coming from a Tira, Amy, Taki, Grøh, Hwang, Raphael, Azwel, Cassandra, Setsuka, Hilde, Xia, Sophitia, Kilik and Seong-Mina player
I recently purchased SC6 after a long break from the series after SC4. I have been a Seigfried main since 2, and I was happy to see that I was 90% ready to go with him from old muscle memory. But I've been so entranced with 2B recently!
@@jimbobbles2265 Seigfried is Nightmare in SC2, but returns to being Seigfried when he drops Soul Edge. The moveset stays with Seigfried and Nightmare gets a new moveset in SC3
i played SC 4 when i was in kindergarten, and i've always wanted to get back into the game. i just got SC 6 for my birthday and realized how complicated it seems. so thank you for making this for us newer players! it helps us understand the game so much more. from your experience playing the game though, do you know which characters seem to be on the less popular side? because i like being a hipster and using characters no one plays-
god bless you for taking the time to make this! I wanted to get back into SC since the last one i played with my friends is SC3! its been a while and i was looking to get back into the series! Are you going to make in depth character guides? because please do!
@@ForceofNature99 will Bandai Namco negotiate with SNK to make it official? There's Haomaru already, and btw Setsuka has some stuff similar to Tachibana Ukyo……
I'm so glad I found this video! I always wanted to get good at soul caliber but I have no idea who to main and what type of play style they have but now I know! I hope I can get good at the game!
@@ForceofNature99 indeed! My first game was SC2 and ever since then I fall in love with the series! I was so excited when I got SC6 day one, I got the collectors edition! Right now I'm trying to main amy, I loved all the characters but I really wanna main may the most! At first I was trying to main talim but when amy came out I played her a lot! I still wanna try to main talim and cassandra but I think I just focus and put all my time trying to learn just one. I hope I can get good with amy, she's so cool!
I am a big Taki fan, she is my fav Ninja along with Ryu, she is so fun and so versatile, different modes, a lot of speed, great mobility, hits everywhere, simple but effective character design, after her Xianghua is my other character along with Yoshi, also Kilik is good when winning is required along with Siegfried, Astaroth is a lot of fun as well and Sophitia has cool moves along with Cassandra. I want to play as B2 which looks fun and Azwell looks cool for customization I would like to make Gilgamesh with his moveset.
I'd also list Da Booty as one of Sophitia's strengths considering a certain throw she has... Lol. Bad joke aside, good video. Zasalamel/Siegfried fan here.
You know, for some reason, no matter the Soul game, I always, always keep going back to Voldo. Now, I'm not the best of players, never attended a competition in my life, but something about Voldo just makes sense to me. He was pretty bland in Soul Edge, and I never played SC1, but all the other games? Voldo just vibed with me, like I know what he does, and it's easy for me to pick him up, whereas I can't wrap my head around characters like Siegfried or Sophitia.
That is pretty ironic considering how straightforward Sophitia & Siegfried are compared to Voldo. But Voldo's the type of character that just "clicks" with certain players.
Hello you have a great breakdown video but I was just wondering which one suits me the best I enjoy a rushdown speedy play style with lots of frame advantages which one do you think suits me the best Amy or Cassandra?
I'm a rush down type player but value damage over speed. And love big normals. Would nightmare fit that then? Or maybe Cassandra? Those two look most interesting. Thought I'd add this, in general I play gorlila type rush down characters in 2D games, heavy rush down buff machanics maybe armor command graps easy to play, super offinsvie that sort of thing
Rushdown with big normals? Not really much of that, it's usually one or the other in SC. Nightmare, Cassandra, 2B or Raphael may suit you. If you want good 2D rushdown, Amy is really strong. If you want some power brute offense, try Astaroth.
I've only played this game against one of my friends but I want to play it more and get better at it. I do know it's a few years old now though so it may not be active, is it still possible to find matches with people who aren't all amazing at the game?
I have SCVI on all platform so i can confirm that it can be dead on PC sometimes, Xbox is active in the daytime, PS ppl active on there Also theres a lot of beginners on xbox because SCVI is on the gamepass now.
I like the video. However some of the characters difficulty levels don't make sense to me? How is Sersuka very advanced but Haomaru a beginner? Additionally, one thing you missed with Yoshi is that he is vulnerable when in stances. Slow to recover as well, say when in flea or meditate stance.
Ah, thanks. The main vulnerability that I experienced when facing Yoshi was that he was predominantly close-range combat focused. Thanks for the mention on the "vulnerability when in stances", which can be a bit key when dealing with some stance characters. SCVI's difficulty titles are pretty peculiar. Someone like Cervantes ("Beginner") can easily be considered Intermediate-Advanced based on how well someone can perform iGDR. He's easier in SCVI, but was arguably one of the toughest characters in SCV.
Just recently picked up this game, gotta say really fun to play and learn, every character is so unique. Now I usually play this with mates casually, but damn I'm struggling against their characters. They play Haohmaru and Zasalamel. Im currently playing Nightmare, but I am really struggling as they are constantly rushing me down. Should I switch to a different character who's faster? I mainly play Tekken and the transition is quite ambiguous. Cheers
Hey HASHI, if you play Tekken, Nightmare's an interesting character because his backstep and whiff punishment ability with 3(B)/Strong Vertical Slash is amazing. You can try a faster character if you're having trouble against Haohmaru & Zasalamel. Try out Mitsurugi to see how things compare because he's faster and his neutral game is easier than Nightmare's (Nightmare's actually not an easy character). I unfortunately will note that coming from Tekken probably won't help out as much in SoulCalibur aside from both games being 3D fighters with 3D fundamentals. They feel very different. Good luck! Cheers!
@@ForceofNature99 Thanks mate! appreciate the response. I was definately contemplating Mitsu, I'll try him out later tonight. That being said, I like Nightmare alot, but in close range, he just feels so limited with his 5K being his fastest button. What R ur thoughts on Yoshi? Execution isn't really a problem for me as I main Heihachi and Steve in Tekken. I think for me it's understanding the fundamentals.
@@ZepherOverlord You're welcome. Yoshimitsu is awkward to learn with, but if you don't mind his execution then he's alright to play. Nightmare & Mitsurugi are more straightforward than him.
Imo, this is a big help.. As of right now, my fave playstyle are 2B, Raphael, Cervantes, Zasalamel, they are amongst the easier plastyle.. i always like taki, setsuka, but these 2 are hard af to execute properly..
I have problems of playing fairly aggressive. Characters like Cassandra, Amy, and aggressive Sophitia is really fun; but easily beaten by patient players. (And it seems patient players are the only ones left in the pool) The most effective players are the patient kinds, and I sure as hell ain't patient enough to wait for my opponent to try attacking.
Thinking of getting into SC6 when it goes on sale. I haven't played since 4, but I was pretty good with Siegfried, Nightmare, Tira, and Yoshimitsu. My brother really hated when I'd vs him with Nightmare
Inferno is the boss character of SCVI's Soul Chronicle story mode. He is a playable extra character that isn't competitively legal. He can be played with for fun, but can't be used to compete with.
A cheap ass douchebag. Also, Big Bad End Guy. I miss Link from SC2. Was so much fun to just keep bonking the flaming a-hole with the trusty bug net until he finally goes down. And the sound effect as the blows rain down on the overbarbecued giant jerk? Better than a choir of a thousand angels.
As a Talim player myself, I have to disagree with you on her being close range. Talim is a projectile. She is highly movement-based, throwing herself at people with her attacks. They may hit close to her body but oftentimes they land nowhere near where they started.
Im a Hilde main as well, and Hilde dont need space. People automaticly think she needs space because of her lance this is wrong. She's like a jack of all trades and is both effective in close and long range battle. In this game shes next to Cervantes 1 of the best characters. Great punish, damage, the best horizontals shall I not talk about her low attacks and regalia? She dont have any weakness.
Either or is alright. However, in general the difficulty ratings are based on SoulCalibur experience primarily. But of course, being proficient in other fighting games can help expedite the training process.
randomly thinking about the soul series. good memories with the friends' kids and me playing together while I babyset them. thought id look up the latest and... its 96% off in steam. sale ends in 12 min... bought ultimate edition for a 10er. even if its shit ill get my moneys worth. thanks for breaking down the new characters for me...
Taki is a Advanced character👏👏👏Ye some Pro players still don't know what they are doing wrong with Taki and then automatically just say she isn't that good.
I will die on this.. I hate maxi players. The toxicity in the online community with maxis makes my stomach hurt but other than that great video I loved it
(inferno is a cheap ass rule#1) i started with Cassandra... in arcade and went from normal to hard with recot breaking times. then switch ti MaXi and cut my time off afew more seconds and i because a bruising machine. i wikl consider other characters and lear better and nee techniques.( going online for casual matches is cool)
10:55 I was agreeing with your opinions fairly since in reality all characters play the same way (they all move at the same speed, have all kinds of attacks to cover all ranges and speeds) but you lost me at "talim is an advanced character" 😂✋ just cuz she is annoying to deal with doesn't mean playing her is hard, she and maxi are the easiest to pick up and win from the original characters. In sc all characters have always been viable with very little effort, except a few cases like ivy, hilde... characters with gimmicks. My fav fight game is sc but I reckon it has the lowest skill ceiling in all fight games.
He is, especially with iGDR. Though he honestly was tougher to use in SCV. The iGDR JF is also less picky than in SCV. 2B requires a bit more dexterity because you have to adapt on the fly due to the committal nature of her stances. Cervantes is more straightforward in comparison.
@@ForceofNature99 yeah gameplay wize he is straightforward but those just frames are hard! Zasmasal is the same way! And you need them for optimal combos. 2B on the other hand is not execution heavy. She is simply a mixup character.
Ease of use and ease of getting results would be a different category. Maxi can loop people who don't learn the matchup forever, but once they do, most of his gimmicks and Heaven's guard drop off rather heavily, same with 2B and AGS. Even if execution isn't heavy, an aspect of the difficulty rating comes from bringing out the character's potential and the risk/reward associated with it. Hence why some chars like say Cassandra are great for beginners and pros alike since she's not heavy committal or gimmicky, combos are relatively easy to execute and leaves little exploitable weaknesses while cashing in on some rather great risk reward.

Thank you for the video! Haven't played much of sc6 so far, 10h since release day, but a lot of the previous entries. This video reminded me why i didn't like this one. I don't like all these gimmicky extra mechanics, like Amy's roses, NM's terror meter, talismans, Setsuka's new gimmick etc. I am a big naysayer regarsing 2D mechanics. They ahould make the moves more interesting because it's very basic and combos are boring. Hope they'll get rid of these things and go back to their roots. Watching this video made me realize that I don't want to learn or play any of the characters. Ivy and Mitau are the least changed and didn't get meter management gimmicks but the movesets are so boring, as you mentioned in the video. Voldo and Taki were my meat back then but I think they are quite bad in this entry, especially compared to SC5 Natsu

2B is incredible! But yeah, Siegfried's actually pretty strong in SCVI (inherited some of Nightmare's power).
He wasn't in SC2 was he?

Voldo, Haohmaru, or Hilde are less popular.

Taki is amazing as is Ryu! (Replayed Ninja Gaiden Black over the holiday and it still holds up!). 2B is just incredible...
Great breakdown
Thank you!
I'd also list Da Booty as one of Sophitia's strengths considering a certain throw she has... Lol.
Bad joke aside, good video. Zasalamel/Siegfried fan here.
Favorites are Voldo and Amy. I like having a versatile moveset with a bit of a gimmick to it, and both are some of my favorites aesthetically as well.
Both fun characters, but pretty tricky as well. And as you can guess, both characters annoy the hell out of people online.

I love Cassandra Alexandra. She's always been my favorite character to pick
Indeed! 😎
You should pick the character you like the most
For sure! (Who do you like?)
Hello you have a great breakdown video but I was just wondering which one suits me the best I enjoy a rushdown speedy play style with lots of frame advantages which one do you think suits me the best Amy or Cassandra?
Hey, thanks for watching. Cassandra will suit you best.
I've just recently started playing and I have no clue whatsoever lol. really appreciate the video tho!
No problem, you're welcome! Enjoy the game, play Nightmare haha.
Thank you
thanks to this video, I main hwang and zasalamel

I've only played this game against one of my friends but I want to play it more and get better at it. I do know it's a few years old now though so it may not be active, is it still possible to find matches with people who aren't all amazing at the game?
It is possible yes, though yeah, a lot of people are amazing at SCVI haha.
I have SCVI on all platform so i can confirm that it can be dead on PC sometimes, Xbox is active in the daytime, PS ppl active on there
Also theres a lot of beginners on xbox because SCVI is on the gamepass now.
PS4 has a great and well balanced community online still. Still finding lots of new players.
He's easier in SCVI, but was arguably one of the toughest characters in SCV.
ua-cam.com/video/3hAkJTOEwq8/v-deo.html
I have been a Yoshi main since SC2
Good man! 👍
Good luck! Cheers!
@@ForceofNature99
Thanks mate! appreciate the response.

I have problems of playing fairly aggressive. Characters like Cassandra, Amy, and aggressive Sophitia is really fun; but easily beaten by patient players. (And it seems patient players are the only ones left in the pool)
The most effective players are the patient kinds, and I sure as hell ain't patient enough to wait for my opponent to try attacking.
Aggressive is ok, if you play smart offense (safe moves & frame traps). Cass, Amy & Sophie are all good fortunately.
Thinking of getting into SC6 when it goes on sale. I haven't played since 4, but I was pretty good with Siegfried, Nightmare, Tira, and Yoshimitsu. My brother really hated when I'd vs him with Nightmare
Do it. SCVI is a great game!

Im sorry Im new, what is an "Inferno"?
Interesting take.
I personally like to use Hilde for game play sadly Iam not good in spacing, 😆🤣 and so I end up using Sophitia, Xianghua and Cassandra
Hilde's amazing, but yeah you require a lot of patience and spacing ability to excel with her. Sophitia, Xianghua & Cassandra are all miles easier.
I am a Setsuka main 😎
Good choice! 👍
My favorites are Cassandra, Sophitia and Talim.
Very nice choices! 👍
is the music playing during the Amy part in game?
It's not. It's Constraint by Falcom Team JDK.
Question: You say some characters require intermediate experience. Do you mean experience with the franchise itself or fighting games period?
Yeah, she's quite advanced. Tough to win with at high levels. But still a sight to behold when played well.

Yeah, she's pretty strong but beatable.
You also forgot to include with Geralt’s weakness: He only has 2 break attacks. Even when soul charge is activated.
I love playing Tira for the personality mashups. She's such a fun character to learn. Her gloomy moves are especially badass imo.
Tira's amazing. I love the concept of her two movesets dictated by her bi-polar moods. She's like two characters in one!
@@ForceofNature99 yes! I feel like that makes her such a unique character in the fighting game genre for sure.

Nice, are you enjoying Hilde in SCVI?
@@ForceofNature99 yes I am
Great vedio however Cervantes is a bit execution heavy. 2B is easier to use than him
He is, especially with iGDR.
@@kayanims Yup, 2B is a dedicated stance-rushdown character. On the other hand, SCVI is very light on execution compared to other fighting games.
@@ForceofNature99 that is true
Xianghua & Geralt =]
Great choices! 🙂

The cons are kind of hard to see.
