*Additional Notes
- Throws in SoulCalibur are performed by pressing A+G or 4A+G. A+G throws are broken by pressing an action button (such as "A") + a direction other than back upon the throw. 4A+G throws are broken by pressing back + an action button upon the throw. Throw ranges vary between the characters. Characters like Nightmare have a large throw range whereas characters like Xianghua have small throw ranges. Characters such as Ivy or Astaroth in particular have strong command grabs requiring more complex inputs, with smaller throw escape windows.
- If you get knocked down, you can either just lie down on the ground (and block from the ground if attacked!) Or tech roll by pressing the Guard button + a direction right as you hit the ground. Beware of "Tech Traps", which are setups designed to hit you during a tech roll since tech rolls don't have complete invincibility. If the opponent uses tech traps, just lie on the ground and block what you can, if the opponent tries to immediately pressure or hit you on the ground a lot, back tech roll "ukemi" if you need to create space.
- Reversal Edges can be beaten by sidestepping then punishing like a linear Break Attack (or Nightmare's CE!). And before you ask, you can Reversal Edge a Reversal Edge.
- Nightmare's "AA" is actually i16, not i18 (Seong Mina's is i18)
*i10 Strikes: AA, 6B, etc.
- Cassandra
- Taki
- Xianghua
- Yoshimitsu
- Amy
- Azwel (Requires "Sword Mode")
*Slower than i12 AA's
- Astaroth (i20)
- Seong Mina (i18)
- Nightmare (i16)
- Siegfried (i16)
- Voldo (i14)
- Haohmaru (i14)
For Directional Notation
7 8 9
4 5 6
1 2 3
Each number represents the corresponding direction. 1 for "Down-Back", 9 for "Up-Forward", 5 for "Neutral" or no input, etc. Quarter-Circle Back = 214, Quarter-Circle Forward = 236, Half-Circle Back = 63214, Half-Circle Forward = 41236, etc.
For Input commands:
A = Horizontal Attack
B = Vertical Attack
K = Kick
G = Guard Button
6G = Guard Impact
A+G = First Throw
4A+G = Second Throw
6B+G = Resist Impact
B+G = Reversal Edge
A+B+K = Critical Edge
236A+B+K = Soul Attack
Legend:

Damn. Talk about putting everyone else's fighting game tutorials to shame lol. Thanks for the info!
I asked for this a few weeks ago, and now my pleads have been heared, thank you so much for all the quality content!
You're welcome! Thanks for the support!
Nice, this explains a lot especially to my friend who always complains about the mechanics of the game.
Tell your friend to get gud..... Soul calibur is easy to learn but hard to master since there are so many options in combat. And if he tells you your character is better than his, that just means he doesn't understand how to use said character. One character in particular that isn't understood well is Taki. Your technical skill and understanding of all her moves has to be very good in order to understand her complete game. People always say it's easy to keep her out....wrong. Those people are noobs. Just go and watch the south american scene for soul calibur. there are quite a few insane taki players that will prove that completely wrong. There are just too many people that claim to be good with a character but just don't really go to training and learn how to use their character's full moveset by impulse or instinct.
@@zazoreal5536 Uh... yeah right, interesting.
Thank you for your work, it's been a long time I wanted to get into SC6 after T7, but it clearly lacks beginner ressources at first glance. Everything is made really clear thanks to you, I'll check the character guides as well ! Liked and subscribed, keep it up !
Thank you very much Kevin! 🙂 Glad I could help! SC6 is a great game, but yeah, it's a little lacking in tutorial resources (T7 has so many online in contrast haha). Enjoy the character guides!
Bought SC6 during a steam sale. I'm trying to get good at it just recently. Your tutorial is IMO the best I've seen. Much thanks.
I liked and subbed.
I'm glad it could help! Enjoy the game!
I’m picking this game back up because one of my best friends got it in the same (we’d play in person before), so I really appreciate these reminders of fundamentals.
Nice, glad I could help out. Good luck with the game, it's fun!
cool guide my dude, i honestly hope this video gets new players into this amazing game
Thanks big funny. I tried haha. Not many people produce SCVI video content (Mostly me and Hayate I think?). Trying to help out how I can.
I swear probably the best tip is to learn Voldo match up as soon as u can.
I cannot count how many times I encountered him in like just 4hours
It would have been nice you touched on the different type of falls and how to deal with each one of them to wake up properly without getting pummeled over and over again.
Ah, indeed. That to and the general throw game. Though, I got a little worried that this video was getting a little long considering my target was originally 20 minutes. I'll try to give an explanation in the Info.
Just wanted to say I appreciate your videos and I can't wait for your Astaroth guide
Brotha thank you! After watching the recent WuFL 2021 I became really excited about this game! I haven't played any previous SC's so this will be the first. (I am experienced with fighting games tho)
You're welcome Kyrie! SC is a great game, have fun with it! Don't forget to subscribe!🙂Found any characters you like yet? Have a look at my character guides!
@@ForceofNature99 oh brotha we subscribed already and we got your guides saved in the playlist! Keep doing you man loving it !
My man👍🏽 but you dropped this at 6 in the morning 😭
This was TIRING haha. Respect!
My brain exploded with all the information that I‘ve been faced with ever since getting the game. It’s a bit overwhelming.
Indeed. SCVI is a very complex game. Take things slow and have fun with your character!
Moooore
Nice video👍
Thanks 👍
Fantastic guide. Thanks!
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
I loooove it, Thank you!
You're welcome! 🙂
Awesome guide, thanks!
Got my thumbs up…again great tips…how do you resist impact? And why do you think 2k and 1a are unsafe on hit? Makes absolutely no sense to me
1b is also unsafe on hit
Resist Impact is Forward+B+G (6B+G). Oh, 2K's, 1A, and 1B's are usually negative on hit. They shouldn't be "unsafe". Well some bigger 1A's or 1B's can be unsafe (think Nightmare for example).
Yeah i meant negative…I can understand being negative on block, but on hit makes absolutely no sense to me
Good Explain!
10:31 No! In that situation you should run towards them and press K! 😎 (i love when CPU is trying to do that and misses 😬)
😂!
Hey I know the general consensus and tips on playing or how to play Raphael is... don’t, but will you do a guide on him some day?
I'll get around to him eventually he's likely within the next batch of 5 SCVI character guides.
@@ForceofNature99 you sir are a Saint
You say backoff characters with their back to the ledge if you have the life lead since they have to come to you. What if they can either do something like spam a free projectile (Cervantes) or can power up freely if not pressured (Siegfried)?
Maintain a spacing so that you can strike them when they try to use tactics like that (or just crouch Cervantes' projectiles if you have the life lead).
Actually brother can you do a zasalamel guide?
Likely in the next batch of vids starting next week!
@@ForceofNature99 thanks! I'm playing him right now and getting HURT! That time stop mechanic is messing me up. I can seem to convert properly in matches.
You customized 2B to look like Bayonetta?
;-)
Definitely the best intro to the game. Thanks for skipping the terminology! :-)
No problem, I felt like going straight to the point haha!
You forgot one thing. Reversal edge is broken. It add lots of meter in sacrifice for defense. An easily spammable quick time event is what makes me roll my eyes to the point where I can see my brain.
No no no....I am a Nightmare main and keeping people at distance isn't the Nightmare way. Nightmare is a mid to close range character. Yeah he has long range attacks but these attacks are limited. Nightmare can however close distance very fast and create it as well. So I'd say mid range is Nightmare's strongest game.
If you continue this series please make a more indepth RE video. You kinda oversimplified it, and the way you scripted the video it seems like you're implying only talim has movement options out of RE. I know RE is one of the tools new players pick up early, and a lot of people have a very limited understanding of both how it functions, and the mind games within it.
RE could be a potential video in the follow-up guide series. This video just touched on a lot of stuff briefly to keep the length a bit shorter. Talim was used as an example because she arguably has the most prolific implementation of RE with her gameplay.
