It's interesting how they've changed Amy's and Setsuka's stances! Especially Amy's- she doesn't hop around anymore, in SC6 it's like she's waiting for her opponent to make a move. SC6 Hwang's hand that's not holding his sword is now more angled downward, like he's going to get his talismans, which is a neat detail!

@@SeventhheavenDK there's no point for Algol in VI. He served his purpose in IV as the main antagonist. Plus he's not in demand, and VI's storyline is going back to SCI-SCIII

I think SC 4 had a darker tone and some characters just flat out looked better. In SC 6 they rounded faces and changed looks a little too much. Mitsurugi's face looks so different along with others
I love Sophitia and Taki, i used to play soul calibur on the dream cast the controller was much to big for my fingers but I instantly fell in love with Sophitia i love her fighting style her backflip kick.
Abs gorgeous games. I like how consistant the whole series is. Thery're very similar in presentation and style but you can clearly tell them apart when watching them like this. It's fantastic how well done SC4 is. It's so fluid and very well polished. Played it last evening with friends on the PS3 emulator and just WOW! Incredible! Very good videos you have here. Excellent comparisons! Edit - the lack of physics in SC6 is kinda sad. I mean, it's a 10 years newer but it doesent look thaaaat much different and some features arent even there.
I love how even spending so much time the SoulCalibur IV graphics keep up to date and I find myself turning on the PS3 to play it when I can because it's still impressive to me
I honestly prefer her with more clothes. I want her to have a more alchemist-like costume. Something tasteful, even modest, but with elegant to the extreme with eye-popping flare.
A lot of the character face models look better in SCIV than SCVI, but the armor designs are generally better in SCVI. The graphical improvements are obvious, although the lighting and shading seems better in SCIV as someone else pointed out.
My man SC4 Siegfried (Prime Siegfried), is my favourite character within the whole serie, just look at the design of both armor and weapon, nostalgia is killing me 😭
The fact that you had special guest chara designers for Soul 4 like Oh Great! and company was just the best. and what I miss the most with fighters is the fact that you had basically the base roster almost complete and not having to buy quasi infinite dlcs to have all the characters... Good old days...
I like the darker atmosphere of 4 but the characters look better in 6. Combine the atmosphere of 4 and the character models in 6 and it would be the best looking SC game.
Just realized the track in the background around 16:00 - 17:30 was “like a glint of light”, the battle theme music for tethe’alla in Tales of Symphonia
Considering the 4th game came out a decade ago and still looks descent tells how much Namco dev team put effort into the development of the Soul Calibur VI. IMHO they should bump up the minimum CPU requirements for the next Soul Calibur to be the 6 core processor like Core i7 8700K and the minimum GPU to be the RTX 2060!
Anyone else, while the Voldo side-by-side was on screen and he was just up there slowly wiggling for a few seconds, look over your shoulder to make sure nobody was watching you watch that? Also, why the hell is Hwang's new outfit like a gothic musketeer?
I dont want to sound like im complaining cause i am just very grateful to even get another Soul Calibur game i luv this series. But i have to say it feels as though there are very different teams at Namco who work on the SC and Tekken series of games. You can tell Tekken 7 just has much more money spent on it's development compared to SC6. The graphics and textures overall are better, and just more content and characters even. T7 got that Ghost Battle mode where you can just keep fighting opponents to work your rank up. In SC5 it's called Quick Battle same thing but this mode is missing in SC6. I just really wish they would add more modes like bring back a new version of Chronicles of the Sword, i loved that mode and used to play it loads on SC3. What they should be doing is bringing modes like this and just more classic customize items from the previous SC games, as DLC. Us fans would buy it! Cause we luv and want to support this game more and more!!
T7 had a laughably low budget and looks pretty plastic on consoles, same as SC6. SC6 probably had a higher budget during development, TTT2 flopped and they weren't sure 7 would sell
@@yakuzashibe i still think Tekken 7 looks good especially the textures, and it just has way more costumes. overall seems to have had more money spent on it's dev than SC6. TTT2 was still good i thought.
Everyone in SCIV got into Ivy's mascara, lol. The lightning in SCIV hit the models really nice. I kinda miss it. The art direction has always been beautiful.
In soul caliber 4 the moves truly felt like you were just ending your opponent In soul caliber 6 they look more like a special attack from mortal kombat
SC4 needs a rerelease with balancing. I personally feel like it was the last real SC before they simplified everything. SC4's biggest flaw was it was incomplete due to the natural disaster that Japan faced during development. I've played every entry in the series, except for the wii game. 2 and 4 will forever be my favorite entries. The soul still burns
The only thing I can say that Soul Calibur 4 has over 6 is that there seems to be wind physics that blow the hair and clothing of characters. But, it was probably removed because it caused clipping problems.
Either the girls used too much makeup and eyeshadows in 4 or they didn’t get much sleep because their eyes are so dark and baggy. LOL But man, looking back at 4 now, the guys look okay but the girls look so uncanny valley scary (and overly glossy). I’m glad they went towards a more stylised anime-ish looks in 6, the faces look so much better and contain more personality than those cold and lifeless mannequin faces in 4. Hwang’s angry Face is especially well done here. I also like how they changed up some of the characters’ stance that I feel suits the character more, like Amy being more still and elegant rather than jumpy and active.
In the case of Tira and Ivy this was a good look for "evil" characters. The shadows are a shading trick in the old engine where local shadows defining eye shape were not really possible. IV came out in 2008 and was the best looking game at the time, any comments made to the contrary are fairly misinformed.
SC IV was way better imo. You could not spam finishers or some other weird techniques. Mastering a character took time and dedication. You dont have to pay for the original characters and the dark aesthetic its set in make it overall more enjoyable for me. Btw the eyes looking sleepless also look better and is perhaps more realistic for the circumstances these people live in. SC VI sure has prettier finishers and a graphical overhaul but it looks more cartoonish
Honestly it's before and after the soul caliber we have now is why most of them in their youth for nightmare it was before sieg became free Sophia is being that cult slave not knowing that her husband is dead and now they're holding the children hostage. Ivy's was before the curse almost killed her and Valentine pretty much sacrificed its life so she could live. Rafael's conquest now coming to fruition those are just a few examples
Damn besides looking like some are straight up ports, some of the faces in the models look flatter or with less depth than the SCIV ones...and that's a PS3 game! I haven't checked the polygon counts of the models in Blender or something similar, but it looks like if you update the lighting effects and textures SC4 can easily look as good as SCIV...being 10 years older. That game really pushed graphics at the time, although I don't know if it ran at 60 fps like SCVI (And my girl Taki now looks less muscular and more lanky, but I guess that's more realistic for an actual agile ninja. I like her mask is back but I feel her SCIV armor pieces were perfect and insanely cool and the bodysuit color was more unique than a standard red)
I remember buying Soulcalibur IV for the PS3 back in 2008, before that I played soucalibur III heavily with tons of friends, we'd even have tournaments and such Seeing the graphics of SC4 in 2008, me and my friends were jizzing in our pants lmao
I mean it's kinda generic if you played many games or watched many anime and fiction movies. Is it your first time seeing a scythe weapon used in games??
I prefer IV to VI a lot. Honestly I was expecting VI to be a lot better than it actually was, especially considering how munch they are re-using a lot of animations
Just realized that some characters barely move during their idle animation while others almost tap dance all over and Voldo’s shin guards in VI are different. SC IV held up fairly well graphically, it’s pretty interesting how close some of the character designs are.

The designs for VI are better just due to their simplicity. Maybe I just enjoy all the callbacks to SC1 and 2, but It just feels like it works bettter.
I wish viola was in it. Loved how she fought with a crystal ball
I love SCVI’s new looks! All that’s left are Rock, Aeon and possibly Yun-seong.
Wonder how they’ll be different than they were?
Im really hoping they will bring them in too cause they've brought all the others back. What i dont get is they made Aeon's race of "Lizardman" that you can use to create your own characters from, but you cant have his fighting style.
They'll back
Next game, probably along with Algol.
@@SeventhheavenDK there's no point for Algol in VI. He served his purpose in IV as the main antagonist. Plus he's not in demand, and VI's storyline is going back to SCI-SCIII
The only thing I miss between this one and six is the engine they used for the hair because it looks plastic and it's annoying but everything else is fine
Yes the graphics in 4 Looks better
I also miss Amy's Hairstyle in 4, because they made her hair look like a croissant in 6.
LMAO SO TRUE!!!!
@@leonziedrich4093 I think is more similar to a croissant in 4
Siegfried and Nightmare had the most badass designs in SC4 it's a shame that they were changed
I think SC 4 had a darker tone and some characters just flat out looked better. In SC 6 they rounded faces and changed looks a little too much. Mitsurugi's face looks so different along with others
Dark times and STAR WARS!
I guess it's because most characters are supposed to look younger (since SCVI is a reboot).
I really like everyone's aged, sleepy eyed look in 4
They been through a lot and STAR WARS!
Really well put together!!
I love how even spending so much time the SoulCalibur IV graphics keep up to date and I find myself turning on the PS3 to play it when I can because it's still impressive to me
Doesn't matter what Ivy wears, she's still pretty in my eyes!
I honestly prefer her with more clothes. I want her to have a more alchemist-like costume. Something tasteful, even modest, but with elegant to the extreme with eye-popping flare.
Understandable
A lot of the character face models look better in SCIV than SCVI, but the armor designs are generally better in SCVI. The graphical improvements are obvious, although the lighting and shading seems better in SCIV as someone else pointed out.
My man SC4 Siegfried (Prime Siegfried), is my favourite character within the whole serie, just look at the design of both armor and weapon, nostalgia is killing me 😭
Same
@@IoiniEverson In SC Broken Destiny Siegfried can Hve Broken Destiny Sword
The fact that you had special guest chara designers for Soul 4 like Oh Great! and company was just the best.
and what I miss the most with fighters is the fact that you had basically the base roster almost complete and not having to buy quasi infinite dlcs to have all the characters... Good old days...
4 has aged like fine wine
I like the darker atmosphere of 4 but the characters look better in 6. Combine the atmosphere of 4 and the character models in 6 and it would be the best looking SC game.
Just realized the track in the background around 16:00 - 17:30 was “like a glint of light”, the battle theme music for tethe’alla in Tales of Symphonia
Looks like VI are styled more like the original. Have to admit I prefer a lot of the design choices in IV.
Same
Considering the 4th game came out a decade ago and still looks descent tells how much Namco dev team put effort into the development of the Soul Calibur VI. IMHO they should bump up the minimum CPU requirements for the next Soul Calibur to be the 6 core processor like Core i7 8700K and the minimum GPU to be the RTX 2060!
SC IV design and theme is still the best one for me
i can tell they put extra attention into making sure Ivy looked right for SCVI
Anyone else, while the Voldo side-by-side was on screen and he was just up there slowly wiggling for a few seconds, look over your shoulder to make sure nobody was watching you watch that?
Also, why the hell is Hwang's new outfit like a gothic musketeer?
That’s his new outfit, he wears because he’s blending in the shadows
10:10 his critical finish was banishing you to the shadow realm? 🤣🤣🤣
The lighting and shadow affect with extra detail to the hair and mouth look amazing in sc4. But some of the character rework I like in sc6
Cassandras “physics” looked too updated though
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Everyone in SCIV got into Ivy's mascara, lol.
The lightning in SCIV hit the models really nice. I kinda miss it.
The art direction has always been beautiful.
I like sc4 clothing design more than sc6.

In soul caliber 4 the moves truly felt like you were just ending your opponent
In soul caliber 6 they look more like a special attack from mortal kombat
That's because they _are_ finishing moves. Critical Finishes required your opponent's health to be low, their armor broken and your Soul Gauge full
Also you need to guard break them and then press all the face buttons at the same time before the stagger time ends.
@@kaihedgie1747 No all you had to do was bust that Soul gauge
LOL
But man, looking back at 4 now, the guys look okay but the girls look so uncanny valley scary (and overly glossy).
They look like they're drugged out.
In the case of Tira and Ivy this was a good look for "evil" characters. The shadows are a shading trick in the old engine where local shadows defining eye shape were not really possible. IV came out in 2008 and was the best looking game at the time, any comments made to the contrary are fairly misinformed.
SC4 is the best looking SC. The anime style ruined it in 5 and 6. It looks like a weeb game now
@@TruLuan
Calling a Japanese game a weeb game. Huh.
@@oak3684 it's revolutionary, I know
SC IV was way better imo.
I low key prefer sc4
I miss the AI
As do i
@@henryevans9975 They was tougher and Starkiller on Arcade
That game really pushed graphics at the time, although I don't know if it ran at 60 fps like SCVI
(And my girl Taki now looks less muscular and more lanky, but I guess that's more realistic for an actual agile ninja. I like her mask is back but I feel her SCIV armor pieces were perfect and insanely cool and the bodysuit color was more unique than a standard red)
The idea of SC6 is for the characters to look younger, because is a reboot
Cassandra got some nice physics...
Good video,I like the older look more than the updated look for some these characters.
This is a very well crafted video
Thank you very much Rasend0ri :)
I remember buying Soulcalibur IV for the PS3 back in 2008, before that I played soucalibur III heavily with tons of friends, we'd even have tournaments and such
Seeing the graphics of SC4 in 2008, me and my friends were jizzing in our pants lmao
i like how zasalamel is just nazeem with a scythe
sc4 is still the graphical goat. the attention to detail was its peak.
Siegfried's Soul Calibur IV Critical Finish is just, Holy Fuck...!
Yep
Unpopular Opinion: I genuinely prefer VI's aesthetics.
This is a high quality video all around.
Buen video bro like
That is the greatest awesome comparison!
Is it just me or Zasalamel has like the scariest looking weapon? (Besides Nightmare & Siegfried)
Because is Death's weapon
I mean it's kinda generic if you played many games or watched many anime and fiction movies. Is it your first time seeing a scythe weapon used in games??
Really nice compilation! 👏👏👏
SOUL EDGE! BE AMAAZED! TASTE...THE SOUL OF DESPAAAAAAAAIIIIIRRR!!! This nightmare shall consume you.
6 was seems the first game since 3 to give Tira her proper look
The elemental effects like the wind against the armor was a SC4 touch dont see that in SCV or SC6
Oh you updated this
Tira gives me Harley Quinn vibes in sc4
Voldo just looks like an extra zesty JoJo's character. Was always my second fave after Yoshimitsu. Was fun to use, but a huge pain to get good with.
