NFL has become like Fantasy football. No need to draft RBs in the first 4 rounds
Shit idk what fantasy league u play in we draft rbs with the first 5 picks
Non ppr exists
@@ethanbarrett282 nah that’s made up
@@myfriendstuttafr same here
CMC almost single-handedly won me my league last year
I don't think anyone is arguing that RBs should get paid like a QB, WR1, or Edge player. But as Saquon said on the New Heights podcast last week, top tier RBs are getting paid less than WR3s. I like Gabe Davis, but he's getting $40m to be behind Zay Jones, Christian Kirk & Evan Engram. That's the problem.
Dont pay quarterbacks u can find them in later rounds like brock purdy, dak prescott, jalen hurts, and even tom brady😆😆😆
Elite multi-specialty RB’s are the guy you pass up a first round QB for. There really is only a couple at a time. If you got the pick for it- it’s a lot more likely to get a “high ROI”. There have been times where fans of a team went crazy over not going for the RB first round. Fans don’t want you pass that guy off.
The problem with running backs is there’s so many situational roles running backs have gotten into over the years. You have early down running backs, short yardage/goal line running backs, change of pace/3rd down running backs, & passing/ up tempo situation running backs. Many teams are either using tandems at running back or committees of 2+running backs of guys instead of paying 1 guy massive amounts. Then there’s the fact you can find starters as basically any round in the draft. Lastly drafting a first round running back with a fifth year option and then franchising him after for a year gets a team a very talented player cheap for 6 seasons.

You should ask and answer the following question to supplement your analysis: How often do you find average starters for each position in the 1st round vs 2nd and 3rd round vs 4th-7th rounds? How often do you find top 10 quality players for each position in the 1st round vs 2nd and 3rd round vs 4th-7th rounds? I think you'll find it's much easier to find good players at later rounds for the devalued positions, like running back, linebacker, etc.
I think the biggest consideration with a running back is "can this player give my offense an identity?". I would say about half of the offenses in the league don't really have an identity, they don't really have anything that they are known for. It makes it harder for the players within that locker room to know what to work on in the offseason and it makes it harder for the coaches to game plan on Mondays. Obviously the best thing to alleviate this is to get an elite QB, but there aren't enough elite QB's to go around. The next best thing is to get a "guy" at RB so that everyone knows what the plan is. In my mind the best examples of this from recent times are Derrick Henry with the Titans and Saquon Barkley with the Giants. Those teams were not good offensively, but they were cohesive in identity and that fact let them go for a couple of postseason runs without having the QB play to really justify it.
As much as I respect math nerds, this is a perfect example of the fields' limits.
Take running backs out of the game. Do you still watch what the GAME becomes? Can't do maths on that, though.
But when a sixth round rookie makes more plays than the guy getting $8 mil a year, do fans care? No. And every year a late round pick gets more production due to injury, opportunity, or talent.
@@JonT1137how about russell wilson??? Making all that money or aaron rodgers or joe burrow qbs always get hurt so just draft them late like brock purdy and dont pay them😀
What catastrophizing is this? No one is taking running backs out of the game. Cheap running backs are very valuable.
The discussion was supposed to be about 1, drafting a RB and 2, about the 2nd contract. What happened to 2?
Keep drafting one in the third or second for a really good one
3 & 4 5 round seem to be the sweet spots for rbs mix and match skill sets. Pay em nothing. Use em like toilet paper 🧻
I think a better comparison in terms of hit/miss rate and WAR rate would have been running backs vs wide receivers. They’re skilled players that arguably can have a fall off at the same 28-31 age range which can effect the 2nd or subsequent contracts
Leonard Fournette has always been a pretty good receiving back, would be interesting to have a team sign him as a slot receiver for a year.
Weird thought: I think a Jerrick McKinnon type RB who might run for 500 yards, catch for 500 yards and pass block is key.
As a Vikings fan, a Pro Bowl right tackle is more important than Adrian Peterson, who couldn't pass block or catch.
If Running Backs don’t matter and you can plug and play, why aren’t there many good ones? 😂
I'm hoping the new kickoff rules energize the RB/KR type players.
Bro said “accolodes”
I think it’s more so the era of football, wrs have the advantage now that they didn’t have years ago so teams need more wrs than rbs
Still need a good one. It’s just that they are everywhere.
You can draft a RB in round one if it’s a Saquon or Rob. Generational type RB can still be drafted high but you never pay them past that rookie deal
If you don’t have a franchise QB on the roster you shouldn’t draft a RB at 2. Drafting Saquon over Josh Allen & trading OBJ is the reason why NYG is till terrible to this day
@@brandonmoyd2942 true 100%. The giants should have found the QB of the future instead of drafting shiny pieces. Especially at 2nd overall
Teams aren't willing to trade high round draft picks for running backs. Sure there are exceptions, but not many. Says a lot about their value
This list is no different than any other list, QBs, OL, DL, WR, DB, etc. are all mixed bags as well, and can cost you games like a bad RB also can.
lol miles sanders had like 1300 yards on the Super Bowl szn and they shipped his ass to the panthers next szn and replaced him with swift who don’t worse
Could someone explain WAR I don’t need to know what it stands for, I need to know what it means. Any help is appreciated.
Wins Above Replacement. Basically, how many more wins is this player getting you vs the average player at that position?
P.S.
You miss Edwards-Helaire in the list
He listed it as CEH
@@victorvanleeuwen1177 oh boy lol
Tnx man
All those guys were good besides David Wilson & CEH
They matter, but the league is turning into a pass first league. I don't like the direction the league is going in and eventually it will be like watching arena football where the rb is an afterthought
No I don’t thinks it’s ever a good idea to draft an rb in round 1, unless they’re an Adrian Peterson comp. Yes rb’s should get paid but the pay structure needs to be addressed for them. 2 years with a 3y option. Then you have to pay them or move on
So glad lions drafted Gibbs to fumble away the our chance at Super Bowl 😡
You sound stupid
No. No. No. No. You shouldn't even have running backs anymore, you should have only a lot of flex players
I'm being serious here and just follow me on this. Why aren't kickers taken in the first? Why aren't they paid mega contracts like RBs once got? A great kicker can be the difference between being bounced in the divisional round and a Super Bowl appearance (Packers lost by a missed FG in the div round and had already smashed the Lions). How many other times have we seen this, a bad kicker sinks a team in the playoffs or is the difference between missing them and making them? Yet despite them being crucial to team success it's a joke to think of taking them in the first or paying them a huge contract, why?
The answer of course is teams don't have to because other teams won't pay them that much or draft them that high.
This is a long winded way of pointing out how useful a thing is, is not what determines its value, the market does this, what other people (or teams or companies) are willing to pay determines a things value. And RBs contract values have gone down and their draft stock remains high for this reason alone, if you want the best RB in draft you have to draft high.
Plus kickers are consistently the highest scoring players in the league every single year. They definitely are one of the most important positions
