    I watched Caeden Wallace's full games vs Michigan, Ohio State, and a few others. Dude has good size, good pass pro and gave up 1 sack the whole season. He has the potential to start and was probably the best tackle left on the board. I was skeptical too until I watched his tape and for the third round he has a good chance of being able to contribute.

    It's all about getting open and running great routes. If you blow the doors off with your speed, that's great and all but it don't mean squat if you can't run a route and come down with the football. These 2 dudes have size, good hands, and shiftyness.

  • @mt_baldwin

    Remember when the narrative said CJ Stroud was going to the worst situation? I do and for one there was zero talk of "the Texans aren't ready to draft a QB", what nonsense this was for the Patriots. And two, everyone was saying Young was going to a better situation "ooh Adam Theilan can help a rookie QB out and he's got an offensive minded head coach."
    Here's another side note on narratives, remember all that talk of "Caleb Williams should pull an Eli Manning, Chicago is a terrible situation for him" and now the narrative has done a complete 180 "Caleb Williams is going to the best situation in the history of the draft!!!"
    If Drake Maye is good his talent will shine through whatever the situation.

    • @runriot-ke3cv
      @runriot-ke3cv 18 днів тому +1

      Yup. But, this way, if Drake is good, then they were right all along. And, if Drake sucks, the talking heads don't have to admit they were wrong, they can simply blame the team for not supporting their QB prospect enough. It's a win-win for the media's ego.

    • @michaelcorcoran8768
      @michaelcorcoran8768 18 днів тому

      Yeah I mean we can of course always find anecdotes. But it does kind of become a trope. Definitionally, top prospects usually have to go to s*** teams. The entire function of the draft basically is to accomplish this parity exactly.
      If you follow this to its logical conclusion, you would never draft a quarterback until you're exactly one quarterback away. To me that seems like a foolish approach.
      Sometimes the young quarterback gets thrown to the wolves and the good ones will find a way to make it work. Even if they can't win, you can still usually see enough glimmers of quality play even in the face of pressure and dysfunction.
      Like Trevor Lawrence has had tons of dysfunction, and his play has been inconsistent I'm sure in part because of it. But we know he's a good quarterback in there ... Even when he was in a s*** situation he could display good quarterback play.

    I'm a Patriots fan. I honestly do not know what to think and I'm just trying to have an open mind. Easily I can't fault the first pick, I don't watch enough college football to have an opinion as if it was the right one but.... It's hard to argue that drafting the consensus best quarterback available was not the right move.
    Daniel's is more exciting to watch so I was kind of secretly hoping for that but again I'm not qualified to say who is better or why.
    I'm a little worried though because we really don't even know who's calling the shots. We don't know how much agency Wolf has or Mayo how much Jonathan Kraft the younger is involved.
    For some reason they still seem to be targeting these large bodied / compete while the ball is in the air, / prototypes. I just wish they would prioritize speed. Again I'm just some idiot fan though....

      They went for the speed approach in 2022, it didn't workout what so ever. Baker (4.54) and Polk (4.52) are both shifty guys who lack a true top gear but still separate enough and their football speed was still great.
      Official 40 times for top NFL WRs with 2023 stats:
      AJ Brown 40 time: 4.49 (5th in Rec Yards)
      Mike Evans 40 time: 4.53 (9th in Rec Yards)
      CeeDee Lamb 40 time: 4.50 (2nd in Rec Yards)
      Brandon Aiyuk 40 time: 4.50 (7th in Rec Yards)
      Puka Nacua 40 time: 4.57 (4th in Rec Yards)
      Amon Ra 40 time: 4:61 (3rd in Rec Yards)
      DJ Moore 40 time: 4.42 (6th in Rec Yards)
      Amari Cooper 40 time: 4.42 (10th in Rec Yards)
      Davante Adams 40 time: 4.56 (15th in Rec Yards)
      DHop 40 time: 4.57 (21st in Rec Yards)
      Diggs 40 time: 4.46 (13th in Rec Yards)
      Only two guys who finished in the top 10 of receiving yards in 2023 ran an official time of 4.4 or lower at the combine or their pro-days (Tyreek Hill (1st in yards) and Nico Collins (8th in yards, also ran a 4.4))
      TLDR: 40 times are the most useless tool when determining a college players success in the NFL

      This is not a team that didn't have the luxury of being able to take BPA. 2023 draft was almost entirely defensive prospects. Offense had WAYYYY to many holes to not take shots at. Taking defense when they already have a stacked defense makes no sense. When you take your franchise guy at No. 3 overall, you have to make an effort to help him. It seems they have learned since Mac Jones.

    The concerning thing about Drake Maye is he didn't perform well against the better defenses and I'm not just talking elite. The Herebert comparisons are not good either. At least Justin performed well against good teams despite being handcuffed to that terrible dink and dunk offense at Oregon.

    For all the other picks, there were better prospects at their position when they drafted them.
