- Rules:
1. Only my starter in battle
2. No items in battle, except held items
3. No glitches, exploits, save states, or RNG manipulation
4. No evasion moves before level 100*
Rule details:
-- *In gen1, evasion boosting is allowed if the Pokemon does it through means other than learning the move by level up or TM. For example, using Mimic or Mirror Move to boost evasion is allowed. (This exception is to keep ranking consistent with my legacy videos.)
-- I am allowed to manipulate my starter
-- I play the game at 4x game speed
-- For fair comparisons all my Pokemon have perfect (or near perfect) DVs / IVs
-- I am allowed to catch HM users - I can use all field moves
-- All in-battle glitches are allowed in generation 1
-- In generation 1, I'm allowed to skip Marowak with the Poke Doll
-- Surge's trash-can-puzzle is automatically solved
-- The bike is allowed in gen1, banned in gen2, and allowed for bypassing terrain in gen3
-- Saving between league members is allowed
-- If the solo Pokemon faints and I choose to blackout it counts towards my reset counter
-- I can pause the game and timer to take breaks
-- The footage is sped up / slowed down to match the pace of my narration

Scott, I think you made a mistake with the perfect IV's modifier. I noticed that Squirtle's stats at level 6 are quite low for a neutral nature Squirtle at level 6 with perfect IV's. I thought you'd change that at some point in the run, but as the run progressed I noticed that the stats were off. So I did some calculating:
A level 6 Squirtle with a hardy nature and perfect IV's should be: 23, 12, 14, 12, 14, 12, but in your playthough the stats at level 6 are: 22, 10, 10, 12, 13, 11. (I noticed that its defence stat in particular was quite low throughout the playthrough). I did another calulation at level 65. A Blastoise with perfect IV's at level 65: hp197, a133, d155, sa135, sd161, s126 (no EV's). Your Blastoise at level 65 WITH EV's and badge boosts: hp193, a135, d145, sa156, sd166, s150. Special attack and speed stats are good, but the rest are not good at all 😱
So I decided to do some more digging. It turns out that the Charmander you used doesn't have perfect IV's either at the start of the run, but the stats are modified after the first rival battle 👍
The Bulbasaur you used doesn't start with perfect IV's either, but you activated the perfect IV's modifier after the first rival battle in that run as well 👍
Did you forget to activate the modifier for Squirtle? Because the numbers aren't right 🤔
The extra stats absolutely would have mattered in this case, i'm sure he will reattempt them in the future though
I commend your attention to detail and thoroughness. Good eye!
Poor blastoise
Yes, the damage ranges really hurt Blastoise, let's wait for a futuro versus video
24:37 Venusaur was in Overgrowth, that boosted it's Grass-Type-Damage. Plus it set up Growth once boosting it's Special Attack, so yeah that definitly was overkill on that poor Blastoise xD
As a small note, Blastoise is the main of choice during FireRed. Reason being that the Nidos were nerfed severely and that Torrent/Blaze/Overgrow are amazing habilities for speedruns. Despite inconsistency, you want mega kick for Rival 2 and misty, but luckily you after that can rely on secret power.
It's interesting hearing you talk about always soloing the games with your starter as a kid because I've never done that
I won't stand for this Delphox slander. That witch is trying her best, unlike Incineroar.
I love Delphox, and when my friends gave it slander, I was just like "Here, look at this art of Delphox with a hat"
As for the starter gen I don't like, honestly gen 8. All three of them just kinda look like a cross between a dude in a suit, and a plastic model. And yeah, I get the style with Incineroar, but it is my least favorite of the gen 7 starters.
early club! surf, ice beam, earthquake. this should be a breeze
In my casual playthroughs it’s usually these 3 and toxic on Blastoise
In the remakes I’d use bite instead
Well i managed to get great times using tms as ice beam, bite and Brick break (Brick break Is awesome against ice/water lady).
Physical attackers have it so rough in later gens due to Intimidate.
Meanwhile, there's still no Intimidate-like ability against Special attackers.
Or burn status cutting physical damage. I really think Unnerve should be reworked to be a special intimidate, preventing berry usage is incredibly niche, even in competitive
@@johndavid-zf8qwthe new frost status cuts your special attack but it took a long time to be introduced
@@TheModdedwarfare3 And, they didn't put it in Gen 9.
Fighting is actually one of the best types for coverage after Ground, Rock, and Ice, at least in Emerald and Gen 4+ where dark types are more common. Being super effective against 5 types, tied for the most with Ground and Rock, and it’s coverage is pretty diverse, with not much overlap with other types. It’s got a lot of resistances, but except for Bug and Grass a single move of any other type gives almost perfect neutral coverage.
But in FRLG there are 2 steel types and 0 dark, so it's not great for this game. Maybe just for Raichu because its movepool is that barren.
Rock isn't tied.
Also fighting tends to get some good moves in later gens. Close combat has 120 power and perfect accuracy with no downside if you don't get hit, and cross chop has reasonable accuracy, high power, and high crit ratio.
Yeah but like, its not super good for that many actual /trainers/. The only mons in the e4 its really good for are the champs rhyhorn, brunos onixes (lmao) and lorelei. Lorelei is somethin, but not great. So its not great for rivals, and its really not that good for any of the gym battles past brock, /four/ have aces that resist it.
Fighting is great for the normal spam throughout the game, and helps with the rare non-optional rock type if you dont have a special move, but thats mostly it tbh
Lorelei is absolutely something tho, there will be many mons whos best move into her is brick break im sure
Ground is also a little weak in frlg: so many poison types have levitate :(
I love how quickly we're getting these. I'm also happy to support these on UA-cam. It makes it feel better than when I watched em on patreon
Bulbasaur = Bulba
Charmander = Char
Squirtle = Hydro
10/10 naming scheme!
Squirtle was my first pokemon ever, ❤ enjoy the run.
You probably know this by now but you can get the black glasses in the rocket hideout to boost bite and helps with some damage ranges, it’s a pretty common speed running tactic for frlg.
Btw, you always keep forgetting the Torrent, Overgrow and Blaze abilities. You can use either of their STAB moves at low health than using your physical moves especially if your attack is lowered.
These also aren’t implemented in the calculations on the overlay 😢
He does, but I assume that he's been made aware since this has been filmed (IIRC these were done late last year or early this year?)
Yeah the games themselves are trash at even hinting that these abilities are in effect. Even in gen 9 you just have to know.
Agree, I noticed during the charizard run. I guess Scott is not used to 3rd gen mechanics😅
@@chrisdaignault9845true, as a kid I for some reason I thought “in a pinch” meant being affected by wrap/bind etc and that the starters were just good Pokémon with a crappy ability. Wild how wrong I was lol
Blaistoise is about to blow the other 2 out of the water
I love you Delphox, even if no-one else does
FR/LG Lorelei is probably a strong contender for the hardest first Elite Four member in the whole series.
I'm guessing you probably don't have interest in including it in your runs, but I thought I'd mention that FR/LG were the first games in the series to feature harder E4 rematch fights (at least I'm pretty sure they aren't in Ruby/Sapphire; I know Gen 1 and 2 don't have them), which make some swaps to their team (usually swapping for a Johto mon, though Bruno just evolves the Onixes). You'd definitely need to cheat to access them in a reasonable amount of time in a solo run, however, as they're gated by a postgame Sevii Islands questline which requires the National Dex, which is gated behind a minimum of 60 caught Pokemon.
Gen 6's starters are nice. They're based on RPG classes!
Well I guess they took from other things, it was only a matter of time before they took from RPGs, lol.
What's funny is I've been hopping for more videos, and now I don't have time for them. Sad.. but still yay!
Fighting is super effective against Ice, Dark and Steel, Rock and Normal.
Dark and Steel are barely present in Kanto so even though in later games, you want to have some Fighting coverage somewhere, in Kanto, it's really only useful against Lorelei.
My very first starter ever ❤
I chose squirtle because my first game was Pokémon blue and it was on the cover
My first starter as well. I got stuck before Surge... I couldn't figure out how to get on the SS Anne. But it was still my favorite and played again later and beat the game with it
Yes ive been waiting, love these gen 3 red videos scott 🎉 water best type
Edit: i remember a rumor as a kid if you chose the box starter... Eventually you would get charizard X or Venasaur X... Lol years and years before mega evolution 😅 i swear this was a school ground rumor back then
I’ve been hurtin for a squirtin. Thanks Scott!
Aww Delphox is my favorite starter, the whole mage theme is great, with its wand and robe.
I don't know if you've considered this, Scott, but to avoid the hyper potion spams from the enemies I like to avoid making two big hits and instead do a small hit THEN finish them with the higher damage hit.
For example instead of doing Surf for 80% damage and then trying to do it again. Maybe do Secret Power for 30%, then finish with Surf.
This would have to be weighed with the possibility of getting a critical hit and hitting in one hit anyway though.
This isnt really a super good use case (tho the para chance is something, being a 7.5% chance to prevent one hit), but its quite relevant if you have, e.g. two 45% rolls and a 20%
13:57 FireRed and LeafGreen have an amazing trick in Nugget Bridge, go into the Team Rocket grunt battle with a weak Pokémon and keep losing to get Nuggets from him. Even after that, you can catch a Meowth, or like 5 of them and keep using Pay Day and hope for Nuggets with Pickup.
Is that meant as a funfact of the Game or an Advice that Scott should use? Because that's agains the rules in a Solo-Challenge to use a different Pokemon in Battle than the one doing the Challenge. Plus it would take to much time away. He also mentioned in the Video, that he won't use Pick-Up outside of when the Pokemon doing the Challenge has the Ability
@@midnight1978 well in those cases it's a fun fact.
Nugget bridge info is neat tho good idea for my play thoughts for gamecorner thanks friend
This series is going to be absolutely brutal towards physical attackers, I’m predicting.
Awesome. Only if there was a pikachu raichu line tutor for surf. That'd make raichu probably better. Also can't wait to see a nidoking, nidoqueen, and rhydon run in Crystal
Blastoise was my favourite starter back in the day and that’s not changed. I got a Blastoise in my first ever pack of Pokémon cards too.
The amount of times Scott has called me incredible is.. incredible
Blastoise is a defensive tank and extremely bulky :)
Finally, the king.
But it was a poorly display of it..
Well, this is the first time I've been this early to a Scott video.
The Rival's Pidgeotto and Pidgeot is such a pain, your next Pokemon should definitely get revenge and be a Pokemon that counters it hard, like Jynx.
Edit: I just saw the Raichu premier soon at the end, and Brock is gonna suck, but yeah, you get that Pidgeot!
Recall, these frlg videos are close to a year old!
@@tsawy6 Right, yeah, only now we're getting them, mb.
I kept bite on my moveset. It's descent against cloyster. Also I loved the flinches. I had brick break, bite, surf, and ice beam.
Title: Blastoise line
Intro: Squirtle line
Poor Wartotle, the only mid stage evolution ice ever liked getting shafted.
Well, I have to rewatch this one as it was my first pokemon.
Ah, Erica vioplume trama.
It’ll take a little getting used but Scott will get the FireRed figured out pretty quick. The abilities, held items, and changes from Yellow are going to take time to get used to. Truthfully, I wouldn’t bother with them until I finished Yellow. I would just do Emerald if I were Scott, but he’s a man of the people.
Hey Scott. Ive been watching your channel for almost two years, and im wondering when you will play with Jynx, either in Yellow or Crystal. She is awesome in Crystal, at least in the mid-game.
'Just wants to inflict the pain it feels to the rest of the world' 😂
I'm not sure if you'd be able to get it, iirc the item finder is locked behind pokedex progression, but if you use the item finder on the tiles that Snorlax was sleeping on, you can get Leftovers and heal 1/16th max hp every turn
I have a question. Seeing you are going through the Kanto starters, is Pikachu coming next or is it the true starter of pokemon yellow butterfree?
What are you, a fool?!
Of course it's Butterfree
You’d have to keep it as a Pikachu though so it’s like yellow 😂
Hmmm, maybe it can be the surfing Pikachu or it is going to be a long run@@MattWarb
Ahh of course, the best starter pokemon@@lazypaladin
Gen 3 graphics, I could watch them forever ❤
You have to talk to a person because you can’t just go into someone’s room and sleep in their bed without their permission. She’s letting you rest in her bed. Alternatively, they could’ve just given the player a room but since you’re not on the ship for long and it’s just docked not moving, having the lady makes more sense.
Ahh first playthroughs 🥲
I had a pretty generic team i guess.. From memory Blastoise, Gengar, Nidiking for certain.. a pidgeot called piggy... I think an arcanine.. and either lapras or Articuno.
Oh, and a level 255 electrode
I thought the speedrun used black glasses + Bite and dominates with that. Did you consider trying that? I know speedruns use items, but that's to make up for the lack of grinding, which you often do anyway. Could be worth a try in the future runs.
U can technically get 4000 coins at the moment to get ice beam. There is an item called the V.S Seeker which lets u rebattle trainers for money and exp. So theoretically u can get it but in solo speed run it does take up a lot of time
Notably only the venusaur rival has two intimdators, the other mon is an exeggcute!
Hi Scott, have you considered the round 2 league as an option?
I love that gengar sprite
What the S I thought this was a parasympathetic relationship! You we’re supposed to like everything I liked! How dare you!!!
Love the video 💕 do more and have fun. (Pets Delphox lovingly)
Just like I'm still having trouble accepting that there are people born after 2000, it's hard to grasp that many people *didn't* start with RBY or GSC.
Why didnt u get ice beam for Erika? For change with the bottle caps at the top of the store?
Wartotle my beloved.
Blastoise-only run in Pokemon red is how this game was meant to be played according to 10 year old me.
I have two critiques of your play.
1- Pickup isn't OP. It gives HP (in FrR), but most importantly items to sell.
2- Then you can get Ice Beam (or any other GC items) earlier.
I always do this. The only Gen 3 game I don’t abuse Pickup in is E.
Yoo future vid idea, have your fans make custom pokemon for you to use in gen 1 for hacked pokemon tier lists. Unlimited videos
In Vermillion Citys Pokecenter you can get the vs-seeker, can realy help with faster exp and money
Hey the gen 6 starters are good, Chesnaunt is also a cool turtle
Scott thinks our ADHD asses could really remember the original order the status colors were 🤣
Hi scott! Wait what! Fire psychic witch fox ftw!
Great another one... I am starting to wonder why so many like that thing so much.
As a kid that started Pokemon with Yellow version, I can safely say my starter never saw much use past Misty.
And with this, unless there's a video hidden deep in my Narrated Pokemon trimmed list, I'm up to date with Scott. Until tomorrow :).
Would having never melt ice have helped any?
what do you mean turtle's are not know for speed? i once heard a tale about one beating a hare!!
I was waiting for this one specifically. And you didn't do the speed run strategy of taking Mega Kick to get through this portion of the game. If I remember correctly the speed run has to land 5 Mega Kicks to be on pace.
The delphox slander 😂😂
You should mention the W/rapping Lass simply for legacy reasons.
Plus you get to use that art.
Why do you need to talk to the woman? Because as the song says “I need some spiritual healing” 🎵
Water type feels middle of the pack but always on top
Ahhh, childhood me and her obsession with her starter... I'd catch a whole team and pretend like I was going to use them, but my starter would always be 10-20 levels ahead of all of them, carry the entire game, and if it ever fainted my team, without exception, always wiped, because the rest of my team was neglected. Good times.
It's nice just to have normal pokemon that are actually in the game they're playing in again lol. I missed this.
Keeping dig over bite seems like a misplay to me. Chance to flinch might be better than poison coverage.
You are basically doumg what i did the first time i played Pokémon
Squirtle was my first choice as a kid, then it evolved into wartortle and I knew I made the right choice. Then it evolved into blastoise and I hated the tank turtle look
31:51 oooooo two 69s double nice
34:00 oooo 69 nice (at the milliseconds)
And, about time you put the nice over the 69s in the stats now lol
Watching this makes me realize that I dislike the champion having healing items in the remake.
Since the whole stick of Professor Oak is that his grandson does not love his pokemon enough now kind of falls flat.
Correct me if I am wrong, in the originals he does not heal his Pokemon right?
And also is the only one in the league that does not heal?
Didn’t FR and LG make you go through the Sevii Island stuff after Blaine’s gym?
You can literally just say no lol
@@MrPuffer69 wait what? Since when?
@@Run2127since... Always?
@@thecriticalghost4626 I always ended up finding myself there thinking it was mandatory lol
Red ear sliders are actually not slow, I seen them move fairly quickly.
Unless mine was just unique and just loved chasing the cat at a speed that was not as quick as a cat but not slow like a tortoise.
Hey Scott, have you considered pokemon stadium yet?
Huh, I never played through the game with just my starter as a kid. I always had a full "lineup" of 6 Pokémon.
Hey now. There will be no Delphox slander where I'm at.
Chesnaught slander is completely okay though. :)
It would be a waste to collect Pokemon for round 2 in each run but what about just having a file you can manipulate to find out the level at which you can beat it? Round 2 is just a big step up in difficulty and I'm fascinated to see which Pokemon straight up can't handle it
What's wrong with Chesnaught? I've never gotten why he's so unpopular
Good like with Rhydon
I actually did this on stream once! I’m excited to see how much better you did than me
Love how you just never acknowledge that your setup got glitched, thus not giving Squirtle perfect IVs
The least favorite does the best. I love me turtle canon
In case you didn't know there is a hidden item in the tree near the entrance of Viridian Forest.
Toxic + rest for Lorelei. Then Id drop toxic for rain dance so we sweep Bruno. And hopefully get to torrent while at it. With Torrent, it looks like all of Agathas mons are OHKO, otherwise we have to Rain Dance again. Then Lance is not hard if we teach Ice Beam. Looking at the Ice Beam damage on champion Pidgeot , I think Rain Dance Surf would OHKO. So for champion we could keep surf ice beam rain dance rest.
No Idea why People shit on the gen 6 Firestarter, looks fine to me. Beautifull Fox Miko.
If you choose to modify natures, mild would be best for blastoise. Only weak to special moves, so lowering def is w.e
Have you thought about doing the league rematches?
24:33 Overgrow boost go brrrrr
So there were a Mew and Butterfree videos? I missed something?
Yeah, they are from last December~ and have always been public.
I really like his Butterfree video, I learned about different ways to work with Butterfree.
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon maybe I just dont remember them 🤔 I will look for them tomorrow. I watch some of your vids several times anyway 😂 FR is my fav game 😍
What’s wrong with the gen 6 starters?
Raichu gets Iron Tail in FR right?
I always wondered if the cabin was set aside for Bill and the woman was like an attendant or something.
Would explain why she is there and being useful.
Either that or it's her room and her bed while just enjoying watching people sleep.
Not the most freaky thing Gamefreak has ever included.
Try the move list
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-Bite
-Earthquake
Delphox is really cool tho
I don't much like FIghting-Type moves either. They hurt my beloved Umbreon (His name is Eclipse) FAR more than I would prefer.
