  • LONG ISLAND CITY Pier Fishing - A PERFECT NYC DAY - East River GANTRY PARK Queens NYC NY. I don't think you could have a nicer day IN New York City NY. SERIOUS. The fishing piers in Long Island City is all big city but when you are out on the water you are immediately away. However and only a kiss short of the big city. It is hard to explain. You have the outdoor feel with the all the views of the big city. All the people wandering by were great. Friendly, kind and courteous.
    Went to pickup artwork she had exhibited at a show in LIC and decided to check the Long Island City Fishing Pier. You should check out her website she has a million pieces of work and is an accomplished artist. You have to see to know what I mean - www.daniellecharetteart.com - Just Amazing artwork. The fishing was OK. I kept the fishing simple. I like that. Perfect for the day. 3 way rigging. Small hooks. Clam baits. Of course lead weight. A nice variety of fish. Sea bass, oyster toad fish and fluke. I am sure some porgies were around as well. Perfect way to fish and enjoy the day. Pretty sure some big basses are possible (certainly spring and fall) and blitzing bluefish a good possibility.
    If you live in NYC or plan on visiting the big city I really would suggest you check this place out. The views are all big city. You can see almost the entire skyline a stones throw away. At the same time you feel sheltered from the madness every big city sweats. You just have to go visit the park to feel what I see. I would put this on top of my list as a tourist destination if your in town. Feel free to knock on my door just under the third pier while you visit! Have fun out there and we are always happy to share our experiences with all those around the world and hope you enjoyed the video as much as we did making it and remember always - Fish Your Way!

    Fishing with a Penn 85 Seaboy. If you get tired of the handle screw backing out you can change the handle and screw. Handle 24-155, handle nut 23-60, and a small handle screw. I changed them out on my daughter's reel.

    Good one Jerry. I was born and raised in Queens and years ago Long Island City was not a nice area but they built it up quite a bit since then. I actually worked in the Pepsi plant right on the water there just before I was drafted in 1966. I believe they kept the large sign where the plant was and it appears the water has cleaned up also since those many moons ago.

Jones Beach, the east river.. Man Jerry, you really bring memories back! I love art - my mother was an extraordinary oil painter and my dad's sketch book was a masterpiece. I love pencils and paper myself although I've dabbled in water color and acrylic. I should do a piece! Did you ever play basketball? Weird question lol we were shooting hoops talking fishing... Then I woke up and went to work this morning 😂😂😂. Strange.... I love the city at night and that's a perfect place to catch the sunset. Well done. Love this video. The book... I'm going to Lake Vermillion, Minnesota on Thursday with my son-in-law. We're going to fish and help his dad pull up the floating dock, winterize the boat and house. I'll be back on Tuesday. So true, there is a reference now for humanity to look back on and hopeful do some different calculations. The level of all the needless lost lives and minds from both the pandemic and spun hysteria is unfathomable. Nightmare is the correct term. I tell people we are living in the dark ages and no one even knows it. I usually get a off kilter look and a your crazy. I understand, it is the arrogance of mankind. I do then reply, and on a global level, we had 2 major plaques, 2 world wars, more death from war & plaque, and in the past 50 years are finally starting to pass serious anti hate and discrimination laws then any other period in time. 100, 200, or 500 years from now mankind will look at our generation and say what was wrong with these people.

    Thanks bud for the video! I’ve been looking for good spots to fish when I’m up there. Any recommendations for large or smallmouth bass? Thanks

      Hi Robert, it is a quick ride I think one of the g-r or f trains will stop there the local ones not sure have not did the train in a long time but its a quick ride like 10min! Double check in the station but local should stop from forest hills or rego park one of those stops

      Hi Steven I have not eaten any from there. Any migratory fish you should be ok. Stationary may be different. The DEC has guidelines. A meal now and then you should be fine I would not worry. Shellfish are another story i would completely stay away from them

    I can assure you that no striper will venture to that spot at 3:40

    • @FishYourWay
      @FishYourWay  2 роки тому +1

      Why would you think that? Just curious. I have watch striper at night swim into backwash looking for bait on tides for decades on surf and pier. Why would they not swim along the pier and ambush a easy meal being swept about the backwash into the back where the ambush is favorable? I always thought they stage close by wait for bait to be tossed then go in for the grab. Caught many like that. Interesting, I would love to hear why they would not? This is of course an occurrence that rarely happens at high noon but one rather at night.

      @@FishYourWay I’ve been fishing for decades too. It is only seldom that such a thing will happen, especially in an urban environment. I can’t speak for your experiences, but I’m willing to bet that they were not in and around a place like New York City. My experience is that fish are spooked by shallow water and shorelines and structure. I’m not saying it’s impossible to catch fish that close in, but highly unusual. Fish generally like to be in deeper water, And in fact I have caught fish within casting range in the surf, but generally that is very very uncommon, it can happen, but in that spot in particular, no way. The reason is simple. Overfishing has spooked the fish to the point where they no longer feel comfortable in shallow water and around structure. I mean look at the fish you caught in your video. Those were all small fish. All the big fish keep to deeper water, and no fish, of any size,will come in that close to the shoreline.

      @@robertedwardn I understand your points. I have not fished this pier till this day. I have fished many piers many days and have encountered similar statements. I have also waited for anglers casting 100yds+ watching fish below them to finish fishing and catch fish right where they been standing on many piers. I taught many friends how to see and fish this way as well. Several made comments on this video and will testify. You may need right bait/time/tide but the bass/fluke/weaks will draw right in. Certainly not all the time but many time if they are there. And I must agree 100% your going to catch them far and close in right through the rips/current breaks regularly as you mention. Many days it is a long game. Good point thanks Robert.
