- Walk Through the Gentrified - QUEENSBORO BIG STRIPED BASS - Queensbridge NYC Fishing. A stop at the garage, a rod in the car, and near some water. Took a walk through both sides of town and done did some fishing not far from the Queensboro Bridge. No clue where I was going and what I was going to do. Just find some water. Something will happen. That is how it works. Worked some Gulp first and met a gentleman whom I communicated with through hand gestures, facial expressions, and 3 words. I can not explain but I knew he was what I was waiting on, not the fish. The gentleman offered me a piece of squid I soon caught a oyster toadfish. I was happy and now content. I knew he was going to catch us a big old striped bass in the East River. Just a matter of time. I saw his rod bend before he did. A epic battle in the heavy currents of the east river. I hopped the fence (something I have not done in a few decades,) scaled down some rocks, and passed him his big striped bass through the fence. It was a thrill. I can say I was more thrilled then him by how I felt inside. No doubt.
Everyone has at least a little wild. That is why we fish. We feed our wild. I always wondered about everyone else. Today I got my answer while working on some car issues. I took a walk through the gentrified part of town on the way down to the water and it came to me. When I was young I was pretty wild and a part of a ecosystem. The answer was never clear. I was also feeding that wild by fishing my whole life. Wild, but another ecosystem. Which brings me to the gentrified. Why? I think the first run of the gentrified feel they are in the wild. Feeding that same void we fill through fishing. So simple an answer right there in front all these years. More come, and more changes, and so does the ecosystem. Kinda like zebra muscles. They make the water clear but change the natural environment. How the change impacts an ecosystem depends on who you ask. Oddly, I think I just made the perfect country and western fishing video you will see!
You’re a cool dude jerry
Thank you pianomover! Funny I think I saw a piano mover on 21st that day!
I grew up in that “Wild” in the 50’s, 60’s & 70’s. Queensbridge & Ravenswood Projects. In the Summer of 1973 Bluefish aplenty were caught from the shores of Astoria Park/East River.
Hi Bob thanks always love when you share! I missed a bluefish actually that day! should be some good fishing I bet still the water front must be cleaner these days as well just a guess
Millions of fish from striped bass, blues and fluke travel through that little body of water every year. One of the neighborhoods you walked through is actually called Queens Bridge and that's where a handful of hip-hop artists emerged back in the early 90's. As always, tight line!
Queens is the borough not queens bridge rappers are from different Projects An streets in queens
Thanks d bourke. I kinda did a round bout went in one way on the fringe of LIC came out through Queensbridge by the bridge itself! thanks as always Bourke
Thoroughly enjoyed this one Jerry Perfect with my morning coffee! Thanks for taking us along and hope the car is good 🙂
All is good thanks Ron! It was different and all on the fly!!! Be doing some fly soon as well!!! Thanks Ron!
Jerry, you helped to make that gentleman's day. Good on you, buddy. Once again, a great video.
Hi Jeffrey thank you!
This vids going in my favorites.
Thank you Zero Naught! Your comment is going into my favorites!!! Thank you!
Amazing film today. Amazing reflections. My son lives in Brooklyn. In just 3 years time there's been astonishing renovations/gentrification. The cheerful man in the start gave you encouragement. Later there was a scene of a bike loaded with bags of cans. These can/ bottle collectors do a great job cleaning up. Imagine if no one collected them. A real mess.
You were a hero climbing a fence to grab the man's fish. Great job
This is one of my personal favorites. It was a full day little everything. I think they should increase the deposits add value and you will never see an empty on the street again. thanks Ted much appreciate the comment
Jerry, My son lives in Brooklyn( not near saltwater) and I admire you're feeling comfortable in Queens. Excellent job communicating with the guy who caught the striper. On your way out you saw women doing a choreographed dances, families grilling and a soccer game. You're a man of the people.
Hi Theodore thank you, lots of stuff going on got a bunch but just so much more wish I could have got in but an exciting day!!! Loved the comment thank you again!
There is plenty of Saltwater fishing oppertunities surrounding Brooklyn. From the East River to Atlantic Ocean. One of the biggest Party Boat Fleets in the world is located in Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn USA! Where this video was shot was about 2 miles North of Greenpoint Brooklyn!
Way cool thanks for sharing Charles, when I was a kid we would go to sheepshead bay every week in the summer on those boats they are still a bunch there one day will have to visit again!
Hey Jerry, Great walking tour of the East River...in 1973 there was a deli over on Roosevelt Island, not far from the tram, that we would go to for pastrami sandwichs...during WW2 there was a hospital on Roosevelt Island that my Dad, who was a doctor, worked in when not on board a troop transport going from NYC to London...NYC was so different back then...Cheers from Maine.
Thanks Maine Magic and just so much more! Loved reading your words! Thank you for sharing and adding to the picture!
You are such a nice guy . I wonder if he said thank you. . If not I say it Thank you so much 💯 Great video... I miss my northeastern fishing . Been in Ga 13 years.
Thank you! Yes he was more then thank you said it and gestured it many times!

Kudos to you, Jerry! As amazing as usual!
You're the best! Thank you Green Roof Stories!
Thanks for the tour, Jerry! What a way to end the day....a huge, keeper bass. I finally got my first one this morning. Nothing big, just a 25 inch fatty on mackerel chunk.
Thanks Fishing Buddy great to hear you picked a good bass out so cool! Thanks for sharing!
Facinating! I live in SW Virginia and found your "urban" fishing adventure very interesting to say the least. If I started in the center of town and walked as far as you did to find a fishing spot, I'd be in the mountains or farm land, depending on the direction I went. "Culture Shock" Thanks for the glimpse of big city life!
Fascinating comment likewise!
Mitchel 300…..Yep in its day what a Reel ,thanks for the memories.
I love mines! Will be using it soon! Thanks Joseph!
The one that almost got away ,nothing better .

Another great video , definitely keeps me watching . 👌
Thank you General GP much appreciate the comment!
Hi Jerry! Great video! Unfortunately people don't care about neighborhood anymore. I can't imagine how much garbage tossed daily into ocean.
We can never try too much to keep things nice thanks Riyad
They don't make'em like Jerry no more. I just love the guy!
Too kind thank you Yao!
I grew up in RVC and traveled to the city frequently. And I love the different boroughs of the area and the city. And I always felt great in the city and boroughs. And over the years it's definitely grew in different ethnicity and you want one kind of food you got it and want another the same on another day. And so many opportunities to do whatever you want.
So true where I live you can feel you any where at anytime thanks for sharing Andy!
Great Video ! It captures the flavor of the city.
Got a little of every one and thing in there all kinda peoples it was a interesting day! Thank you Joseph!

Nice 👍🏼
Thanks Lloyd!
Hi Jerry, A Striper and a Toad fish in the river. I guess fishing in the river is better than waiting at the repair shop. Have fun and take care, Mickey
Very true! It was an adventure! Thanks Mickey!
Good video thanks for sharing 👍
Thank you King for watching commenting and subscribing!
I’m sure most fish are passing down from the Long Island Sound or up the river from the Ocean so they are only temporarily there.
Thanks for sharing the info

Hello friend. Beautiful fish! I'm going on vacation to New York. I've never been to the US. Can you tell me something about good places . Of course, if it's not a secret, I'll understand. Greetings from Poland .
Sure thing just let me know when your this way and where your near ok!
wow a little bit of everything. and you didn't get skunked.
hope your car is ok
Thanks striperhunter all is well much appreciate!
Great Video Jerry. I've passed the place hundreds of times and never even thought of fishing there. Maybe I should give it a go one day. There's a lot of fish in the East River.
Len, same here! I cant count the places I pass for years then one day! If working about well worth packing a rod and stop[ping for lunch, I did miss a blue I did not mention on a minnow soft plastic lure, bet the out water on the top be a good zone! Thanks as always len!
Is that Queen's borough park. Trying to find location
i keep seeing youtubers with the marathon rod and u have one just to let people know, they are tremendous.
If I ever need a new one I will have to check them out thanks for sharing!
Love this video, Queens All day! Got yourself a new sub 😎
Loved the comment thank you so much for watching commenting and subscribing!
Great video
Thank you Luquon much appreciate the words!
People aren’t there because they’re “drawn to the wild” it’s because in New York City’s wildly overpriced real estate market, it’s all that they can afford. Shout out to Queensbridge Houses, one of NYC’s largest public housing projects - and now, premiere fishing destination! Another great vid and somehow I don’t think you’ll have any “spot burn” issues with this one LOL.
I have to respectfully disagree John. To be honest an individual as myself has limited options as to where I can reside. I think a penthouse would be beyond our reaches combined. As you said it creates "New York City’s wildly overpriced real estate market." Sell low, get rid of issues rather then fix them, renovate, and rent high. Plenty of places for folks to move in the city that are far more affordable with out the lure. Blocks down are 1,000,000 penthouses. Now you have unaffordable housing for local residents. It makes a vacancy for those who can afford it, not those who formally could. People like to pay just to say they pay. That's always been wild to me but that's how it works. Must say loved the comment thanks for sharing John!
actually, the QB is the largest housing project in the US
Fantastic stuff Jerry. Amazing what swims in our waters. Was this just now? And you’re such a mensch for helping that guy.
Thanks Robert cool comment much appreciate! yes it was just yesterday quite recent it kinda fun doing different things places and what ever just different feeling every time, but love the regular stuff just as much!
that spot is known for black fish stripes and bluefish they fixed that spot about 2 years ago it was corroded was falling down they close it down just open about 1 years
I can see that! I was working a split tail minnow a little missed a bluefish swipe heart breaker but had the chance! Nice little corner in the city, thanks for sharing Daniel!
Aye why your so shaky giving me anxiety when putting the bait on hook
Because I have a debilitating neuro muscular disease. Never been a problem to me but oddly some others find it one. Always been interesting to me how that so.
@@FishYourWay Godbless you just asking was making me nervous thinking you was going to hook your self stay safe stay blessed
Thanks Lefty, I dont mind at all when people ask I know it looks different, never been hooked I get a rhythm going with it!
Jerry I told you the East River hold Big Stripped.
Love it! Be out there every day if I lived close! Thanks Cassio hope to see you soon!
I wonder if he still fishes around queens. Iv'e been looking for people to go with.
Time to time yea just go with the flow
Jerry looks like you was in jail for a minute lol
Now its the perfect country western fishing video - trains, cars, fish, jail, rain, and mama! Thanks Virgillo!
my friend stay safe east river holds many bass watch for the zombies
Will do you as well tee thank you!
It rained in Rainey Park or was it Queensbridge Park? Lol
Ha! That was Queensbridge but I am sure it was rainy at rainey park as well! Thanks Bob!
What a cool video Jerry! You really hit the nail on the head - these are the same people that were also convinced that living in a closet for 2000 dollars a month is cool... I mean, micro apartment... Was that the first toadfish of the year?
Haha! Love the way you put it always the best words I think you nailed it even better, thanks Joseph! That was the first one I think yea, thanks as always!
@@FishYourWay telling it like it is since 1980 Jerry! I think it's the best policy 😁
Your the reel deel! Thanks Joseph!
Great video. What was the date of this fishing trip? Also, it looks like a snag. But no doubt the fish was swipng at the bait. It was nice of him to offer a squid to you, for that, he had a positive karma.
Thank you redstwok! If I planned of fishing id of brought some bait myself much appreciate the words!
Just subbed ! What’s your set up ?
Thank you! I was using a Mitchel 410 that day and a 7' med action rod poking through
Where are you at in Queens borough.
Queensbridge
How’s parking around there?
It did not look bad at all around the park Ghost
"As previously noted, a good rule of thumb is to avoid eating fish caught in the East River. The “river” is dangerously polluted with chemicals. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation produces fact sheets that note all of these pollutants, including floating debris, oil, and grease." DO NOT EAT!
Thanks for sharing Ed!
Stripers are migratory
Sorry to see you with shaky hands Parkinson’s and diabetes complications neuropathy sucks I have it too 60+
No reason for sorry I do all just great with it. It is from a neuro muscular disease I have had been had it since I was 10 or so it is normal to me I been used to it. The shaking does not bug me at all been like that my whole life so I dont think anything on it.
Do you need a permit or license to fish there?
Just a marine license that is free
Dude your nerves are shot. You can’t hold your hands still
No, they are not. See the comment below. Been like so since I was 10, I never had no problem with them. Do you? I have learned a bit about dealings with people over years cause of them.
Why cant they keep the low income area as nice? Its literally a block away. I grew up there they didnt fix it for us.
I dont know my best guess would be the same for any area could use more external resources, hard to say
That guy would of kept a non keeper let’s not front
That ain’t no NY keeper !
You need your own show dude
this is not allowed, how many violations of the law, 1. the fish was not caught in the mouth, but was bagged in the stomach 2. the round hook was not used 3. there is no legal fish size 28-35.
Shut up u sound stupid
all true
"WOW look at that bASS"
aH YEA!!!
