I'm a film critic for work. I live in Salt Lake City, and when I covered Sundance this year, this is one of the films I saw and it is so amazing. You HAVE to see this one. It got the audience award.
@@KillBill808I would say it's probably not essential, but I would try and give Superman a watch before watching this, just for you to experience how perfect Chris was as Superman. It's a quaint movie by today's standards, but it's a quintessential piece of movie history for many reasons, including Christopher Reeve's iconic performance.
@RedKingdom28 Oh you really should. That movie paved the way for every superhero film since it's release, all the way to the current DCEU and MCU. In my opinion, Christopher Reeve is easily the best live action Superman, ever. That isn't to take away from any other actor in the role. I have liked most of them and thought others have done a great job. However, everyone else seems like they are playing Superman, while Christopher Reeve was Superman. He was just that rare level of perfect casting for a fictional role. Like Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Gandalf, or Ryan Reynolds as DeadPool-except I would say that Christopher was, if anything, even more superb casting for his role. Anyhow, enough of my gushing, but I really do encourage to watch it. The movie is really good too and was phenomenal for the time it was released (some of the effects still hold up, while a few are laughably bad now, but doesn't detract from the film on the whole). Christopher elevates the whole film and he even shines in the role in the third and fourth movies in the series (which were awful films, but still worth watching just for Christopher Reeve).
@RedKingdom28 It was the first time ever that a superhero mlvie was given a big budget and taken seriously. Those first two Superman movies are the grandaddy of every superhero movie that followed. You must see it. Remember that it was made in the 1970s, before CGI, so please forgive some of the special effects and more cornball elements. It’s not dark in any way.
Robin was also the first person to make him laugh since his accident. He came in a week after the accident. He walked into the room wearing scrubs, talking in a Russian accent, wore a mask and saying all these medical things and doing crazy antics.
The Russian doctor was a character Williams played in a movie called Nine Months with Hugh Grant and Julianne Moore. When he went to see Chris he was in full costume and character. For the first time since his accident Chris smiled broadly and said "You son of a b*tch!" Robin Williams saved Christopher Reeve's life that day. I have no doubt about that.
Christopher Reeve is the GOAT Superman!!!🐐 All the REMAKES in the world won't change that, sorry Henry, Brandon, Dean, and all the other Superman's names that escape me!!
Every once and awhile I go back and watch the scene where Clark is in Lois' apartment and he takes off his glasses. Then, just through body language, becomes Superman. There are no cuts or camera moves. It's all on Reeve to pull this off with acting alone and he nails it.
@TheJacobG That's because "Clark Kent" wasn't just at theoretical to him. It wasn't just, "I'm gonna try to be a little different to differentiate the two." No, he actually tested "Clark Kent" in real life, though unintentional. I remember a story he told where they had been shooting Clark Kent stuff and then broke for lunch. On a whim, Chris decided not to change out of his costume, probably because he was, basically, just wearing a suit and glasses and he was feeling a bit lazy. So he just grabbed his Clark Kent hat and went out the door. He walked down the street to the local diner for lunch. Now keep in mind that everyone in this city knew they were filming Superman down the street and they also knew that Christopher Reeve was playing Superman. So he walked in to this diner, ordered his lunch, presumably paid with cash, and left. Not a single person in that diner had any idea it was him. I also have to assume he was acting through his lunch, still adopting his "Clark Kent" mannerisms and such. It was a brilliant spur-of-the-moment test, really: "Can something as simple donning a pair of glasses and subtly changing how you physically present yourself actually hide your true identity?" The answer is a big fat YES. So yeah, if anyone doubts that "Clark Kent" works as a disguise, there you go. Superman, himself, used it in real life and it worked.
It was beyond rough for Reeve, initially he became suicidal of his condition and was extremely depressed. On top of that, he was required to undergo a dangerous procedure surgery in attempt to realign his skull with his severed spine so that he wouldn’t die of complications. The success of the surgery was at a jaw dropping 50%. Life or death. Suddenly, a doctor came rushing in decked out in yellow scrubs and a thick Russian accent telling Christopher to get ready for his rectal examination. That “doctor” was none other than his former roommate, Robin Williams. According to Dana Reeve, she said it was the first time she saw her husband smiled and laughed since the accident.
This one’s gonna break me, I can already tell. Christopher Reeve IS Superman. Always has been, always will be, because he didn’t just embody the ideas on screen, he and his family carried them out into the world and gave people hope. THAT is Superman.

I had the same reaction. "I don't know if I'll be able to watch this." I still feel like I have to. Christopher Reeve was a hero of mine growing up. I adored the Superman movies and dressed up like Superman every Halloween. His accident was so hard to see, but he handled it with such incredible grace. His line, "You begin to see that there is a future" still plays in my head when I'm enduring tough times. Truly a great man.
I'm only 23, so I wasn't around to see him in his heyday, and he unfortunately died before I even turned 3. But I can say without a doubt that Christopher Reeve is Superman to me. I would always go to my grandma's house every Sunday, and I distinctly remember seeing that there was a Superman movie marathon on TV. I got to watch all 4 movies in one sitting, and I will never forget that experience. I can't imagine what it was like to see those in theaters. I have a feeling this movie will be like Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain was to me, a movie that will make me bawl my eyes out, but something I will always remember and look back on fondly.

I just saw the documentary at my local theater and was totally blown away by it. I walked in with a dry face and came out in tears. It is definitely Oscar worthy!
The importance of Christopher Reeve for the character of Superman is so great, since thanks to the Man of Steel he once again gained importance in the world of comics, and he was the mold to follow for the rest of Live Action as well as for the subsequent comics that They did after 1978, and by his actions in real life he practically had to convince people that he was not the Man of Steel but an ordinary and real person and the character of Superman is what he is thanks to Christopher Reeve. Years will pass and Christopher Reeves always was, is and will be the DEFINITIVE SUPERMAN.!

I know people didn't really like Superman III but i had that on cassette growing up. I'd watch it almost everyday after school. That is why to this day Superman is my favourite hero.
Man, not sure I can watch this in the cinema (unless they do special "safe space" screenings just for "middle-aged guys spending two hours in tears" :) but it looks amazing. (though during the trailer, through the watery haze, one of the things that struck me was "Jeez, you'd pick his sons out of a lineup any day" - not often a parent comes through as strongly as that)
Few actors come to embody the characters they play, especially when it comes to playing a superhero. Christopher Reeve didn't just embody Superman; he BECAME Superman. Literally the comics changed the design of Superman to look like Reeve after the movie came out. The character was portrayed more as a Boy Scout to match Reeve's iteration. Christopher Reeve made Superman what he is today.
The best trailer I’ve seen in years hands down. I’ve cried multiple times watching it. I hope they use the new krypton remix on the new Superman movie. Jmo.
Reeve's widow, Dana Reeve, headed the Christopher Reeve Foundation after his death. Although a non-smoker, she was diagnosed with lung cancer on August 9, 2005. She died at age 44 on March 6, 2006..😢
Should show this to every power hungry dictator on this planet. You want to know what power is, Christopher Reeves strength, humility and courage. That is what power is. Well done to all involved in getting this made. I miss him so can only imagine how much those who truly knew him feel everyday. Awesome human being. WB for once have nailed it. ❤

(25th september 1952 - 10th october 2004)
Same. I'm a millennial that watched the Superman films when I was a kid and to me Christopher Reeve will always embody Superman to me. And he was a hero in real life too which makes it all him all the more inspiring.
He will always be the real Superman...on screen and off!!!
Saw this yesterday in the theater, was amazing.
At first I’m like why are they crying from just a trailer. 2 minutes in I know why 😢❤
I cried too, it was my first time watching it with you guys too... did you know he made super man in Calgary Alberta Canada too? Its where iam from and still live
I'm not crying, you're crying 😭 my childhood hero 💙
I could never get over seeing Superman in a wheelchair. Too surreal
Christopher Reeve, what a Legend.
This trailer hits so damn hard. Christopher really made people believe a man could fly. He was a real hero.
Christopher Reeves is awesome. 🦸♂️ is it a plane , is it a bird . ✈️
A great person.
Superman and who played Superman are the most iconic and impactful superhero of all time. No one can match him godfather of all superheros.
Thanks to Eric, Calvin and Aaron! 🦸
Krypton theme, what a master piece. Hope to see this doc soon
There’s Christopher Reeve, and than there’s every other Superman.
Blindwave definitely needs to do a reaction to this.
I know people didn't really like Superman III but i had that on cassette growing up. I'd watch it almost everyday after school. That is why to this day Superman is my favourite hero.
A tribute documentary movie before superman movie, masterclass
Love you guys.
Geeze,... I'm wrecked 😂
Watch this back to back with the Mister Rogers biopic
Man, not sure I can watch this in the cinema (unless they do special "safe space" screenings just for "middle-aged guys spending two hours in tears" :) but it looks amazing.
(though during the trailer, through the watery haze, one of the things that struck me was "Jeez, you'd pick his sons out of a lineup any day" - not often a parent comes through as strongly as that)
I knew I was about to watch three grown men cry. I put off watching the trailer for almost a week because I knew it would make me sob.
Jmo.
It's barely 12 pm here and I'm already crying
"You're the best... you're the best there's ever been!"
I must stop chopping onions while watching UA-cam videos
Reeve's widow, Dana Reeve, headed the Christopher Reeve Foundation after his death. Although a non-smoker, she was diagnosed with lung cancer on August 9, 2005. She died at age 44 on March 6, 2006..😢
i would love a reaction of this! i cried watching this trailer...
MY HEART!! MY SUPERMAN ALWAYS!! 💔
