I’ve always loved this film. I love how this is like a “first contact” film, how Zack portrayed the overpowered nature of super speed (esp when Faora takes out the soldiers), and that score...I know everyone loves the classic but this Superman theme is my god damn fav. And it was heavily criticized at the time but I’ve always loved Superman killing Zod, and forming Superman’s No-Kill rule around this. The idea of “never again” rather than “never”.
I wouldn't say I _love_ him killing Zod but I don't hate it (he felt forced to and is also utterly distraught at having to do it - I don't need Superman to _never_ do the "wrong" thing but I do need him to care when he does). Got plenty of issues with this film (though on balance I like it) but that's not one. (and nothing can fill the same place in me that Williams' theme does - it's just the difference between things you experience at 6 and things you experience at, well, a lot older than 6 :) - but the MoS score is fantastic)
Supes killing Zod is absolute unnecessary trash, top to bottom. 1) Oh, you can turn his head so much you break his goddamn neck but you can't turn his head away enough to save those people? GTFOH!!! 2) Taking lives isn't discussed in the movie AT ALL and the dramatic crux of the film is put on that moment. There's no weight to the decision because it doesn't seem like much of a decision. Pa Kent even suggested Clark let children die to keep his identity hidden! How is killing Zod even a problem for Kal after that? 3) And beside his initial subsequent reaction, there's no consequences for killing Zod. No human sees it as a problem and Kal isn't tortured or haunted by his choice to kill. He's happy-go-lucky in the next scene. It's a non-issue! If you have Superman kill someone, there should be repercussions! It's rendered completely arbitrary and falls so flat! 4) And it's a ridiculous notion for Kal-El to have formed his No-Kill rule after killing someone. Having killed someone isn't a prerequisite to understanding that killing is wrong. You have 20+ years of life to form that fucking rule! I mean shit! If you don't have that rule by 16, you're probably a sociopath! The fact that we're never shown Kal struggling with that idea and, instead, we're shown him struggle with "should I make my presence on Earth known" is the biggest disappointment of this movie! Most of the movie is about the human race not being ready for the news of aliens but his decision to let himself be seen by humanity means fuck all because Zod shows up. They spend 3 quarters of the movie on a thematic question and immediately rob the protag of any agency by taking his choice in the matter from him OR they don't raise thematic questions at all and undercut the climax by hinging it on a choice with no weight to it. Weaksauce McGee!
@@lust9818 yeah, the soundtrack of course Hans Zimmer so it's great but after rewatching recently the movie is way worse than I remembered and I never found it good to begin with
I thought he was the weakest part of this movie. When he said "I WILL FIND HIM", I honestly thought he looked like a teenager having temper tantrums. He was so weak as general Zod.
@@ChyeahWill That is the comics. Zod is always like a teenager having temper tantrums in them. However, have Brainiac show up with Zod, and Zod would crap himself.
This is unapologetically one of my favorite movies ever. It is by far my favorite film score and I listen to the track “terraforming” probably everyday lol.
“You will give the people of Earth an ideal to strive towards.” - Man of Steel. “They will stumble. They will fall.”- BvS. “But in time, they will join you in the sun.” Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
As someone who generally enjoys MCU content more, MoS is perhaps up there with my top 5 superhero movies. And I love how much Eric is fanboying, but like a proud father!
@@chaost4544 Honestly, I can't disagree with that. My parents bought the Christopher Reeve movies so I grew up on them and have a soft spot for their heart. But MoS is truly unique to me.
@@samuelstephen2762 Cavill's Superman feels the most organic to me. It's the Superman we would get in our current times. I loved Reeves version but his version always felt like a product of the Golden Age of comics and is pretty dated, imo.
Eric is the backbone of the channel. Without him the conversation would usually be dead. Calvins asked "what you think?" Most people would say "It was great" or "it sucked". What we get is "well it makes sense now in BvS!"??? Wow, what an exciting reaction. Also, maybe watch the first film before you watch the sequel. Jesus.
Antje Traue's Faora was the scene-stealer of this movie. She was an awesome villain. Her speed use against the soldiers was awesome, looked like real life DBZ.
And then she just stands there with her head tilted like an idiot while Elliot from SVU has a one liner before destroying the ship. Her super speed disappeared for some reason.
I truly believe this is one of the best superhero movies ever made. The scenes of Clark when he was discovering his powers as a kid and learning he is a alien made me fall in love with this version of Clark Kent. And the scene of when he learns to fly is honestly one of the greatest scenes ever made in comic book movie history. Plus this honestly is one of the best soundtracks ever made. Hans Zimmer should’ve won an Oscar for this movie.
When the Kryptonians are powered up with their suits, it’s not the sun giving them powers, it’s earths low gravity, their bodies are naturally adapted to Kryptons naturally harsher conditions.
@@eric2465 I’m specifically talking about the kryptonians with the suits on, they are only getting the gravity based powers, not the sun related ones (flight, heat vision, etc.)
Super strength is still an extension of the solar induced powers. Well, in comics anyway. But I don’t think Zack would change the canon of the comics when it comes to Superman getting his powers. The level of power yes, but not the method. Yes, they are stronger due to earths gravity being weaker than kryptons, but it would only make them stronger to a certain extent. While Superman is constantly getting stronger the more he remains on earth.
Ya honestly Eric's reaction to things he loves makes them 10 times better, that being said a masterpiece implies that there are no flaws and this movie which is a great movie has many flaws.
I find so funny when someone says that likes a movie in a way and then comes other ppl like "it's not that good" like whatever for the person who said it it is
I love how me and Eric have the exact same reaction to the best scenes of this movie, even today I almost cry when Clark and his father are talking in the barn, it's so good!
@@mrbard1 There can only be 1 "best" smartass. I know you were trying to say "good" but if you're gonna mindlessly shittalk something at least get it right.
It was Christopher Reeves, on the behind-the-scenes features, they talk about how they put a couple of frames of his face in the scene when cavil is fighting the world engine.
To this day I still dont understand why this movie was so hated when it released. Only now are people kind of going back to appreciate it. One of the best superhero films imo.
I'll tell you the simple reason why it wasn't well liked....He's not playing Christopher Reeve's Superman and because it was directed by Zack Snyder. I love the movie and most of the DCEU movies because they're doing something different with the characters. I don't want to see the same type of character again and again. Let Henry Cavill develop his own version of Superman and Clark Kent. CW already does a Christopher Reeve like Superman on TV. DC is finally embracing their multiverse :)
I didn't liked this movie because Superman was not Christopher Reeve style Superman but as time went on I appreciate this movie more and more. I really like how they showed us different Superman who's learning to be Superman
Zack's work is really unapreciated. Christopher nolan worked on this movie to you can see that. The visuals, the depth of these characters portrayed is amazing
when I first saw it, I thought it was okay and then on rewatches over the few years when it like pops up on television I'd watch it I'd be like this is actually pretty good it has a lot of depth to it you don't notice at first and the fact that everyone got all pissed off that Superman killed zod is a strange thing to me given my own upbringing. Superman is a beacon of hope, that's not Superman that's the Man of steel that we see he's not Superman just yet and so he makes a mistake, or he makes the right choice it's all up to you to decide.
I have been a fan of this movie ever since it came out. I have never seen the Reeves Superman movies and as far as comics go, I have only read Watchmen...that’s it. I obviously know Superman cause he’s so prevalent in pop culture, but I have no attachment to the source material/previous adaptations. I feel like that’s definitely part of me liking it as much as I did.
I don't like Snyder's Superman mainly because he seems to think Superman is Doctor Manhattan: an emotionally removed god that other than one or two people has no connection with humanity
Sameee. I disliked Superman cuz I thought he was OP, but that scene of him struggling and persevering through the Kryptonian atmospherics to destroy the World Engine was my gateway to loving Superman.
@@StopReadingMyNameOrElse No are you slow 😂😂 that is literally why they called it man of steel also it's superman nickname its actually cool they use there superhero nicknames
@@bhughessr20 Did you really just immediately upvote your own comment right when you posted it? You know nothing about how movies get made. Paulo was actually the right one it was a rights issue, but calling it "Man of Steel" makes it sound edgy like "The Dark Knight" was even though the first movie was literally called "Batman Begins". You must be a kid.
I love pretty much every movie in the DCEU (Batman v Superman Ultimate Edition is my favourite), but the scene at 18:29, with Superman just going to town on Zod for threatening his mother, is just my all-time favourite ever.
This video legit showcases the 3 types of ppl that watch Snyder films lmao. Guy on the left who's like a kid in wonder world appreciating everything and seeing all the little cool details while being very immersed in the world. Guy in the middle who's noticing cool stuff here and there, but generally lukewarm about the whole experience; it's not the highlight of his day but it wasn't bad either. And then you have the grouch on the right with his claws off body language, drunk on haterade and can't appreciate anything Snyder does.
The conversation Clark has with Zod in his mind about rebuilding Krypton on earth is paralleled by both the conversation with Diana and Ares, and Enchantress and The Suicide Squad. They are all presented with a choice. “I can’t be a part of this”.
If I'm not mistaken, all based on the conversation Jesus had with Satan with Satan offering Jesus power over the Earth and showing him all that could be his. DC really leans heavily into Judeo-Christian mythos. Even Wonder Woman was more Paradise Lost with Ares than greek mythology.
Alot of people with their nostalgy goggles choose to ignore this obvious fact; there was no destruction in Reeves Superman movies simply because they were made in the 70's, no money and no tech to do it properly. What we see in Snyder's verse is simply the amount of destruction to be expected when there's a deathmatch of Kryptonian caliber
@@prof1185 In "Superman II" they demonstrate the sort of destruction that would happen if Kryptonians fought (given the effects and budget of the time) and _then_ they explicitly depict Superman moving the fight away from a populated area because of it. It's in the film, no "nostalgia goggles" required :). How the destruction is depicted _is_ a function of era and budget, how Superman _responds_ to it is a difference of approach to the character. And not an attack BTW but it's "Reeve" - no 's' on the end (just on his chest :). (i'd counter that die-hard Zack Snyder fans explain a _lot_ of the character choices made by appealing to realism - Clark's depicted as petty and vindictive because "realism", Superman apparently doesn't overly care about wholesale death and destruction because "realism", Jonathan dies the way he does because "realism" etc. etc. All the while, we're watching a movie where the hero can fly because the predominant wavelength of our sun's light is a few hundred nanometres different than the sun where he's from :)
@@anonymes2884 again, this Clark is only been Superman for a few days. Reeve's Superman in Superman II is already experienced. Its like when a guy is fighting for his life but then accidentally elbow an innocent kid behind hin at the process. Can you really blame the guy?
@@anonymes2884 man stfu and go watch Superman if you care about it so much. Man of Steel is a great movie and if you can't see that, I truly feel sorry for you
Man of Steel is probably the most underrated comic book movie ever!! I think I saw this seven times in theaters. Such an amazing movie!!!!! But what about Rick has he seen it??!
Sad how Superman cried when he killed Zod because 1. He didn’t want to kill & 2. Zod was the person he knew that came from his planet & I guess that hit Superman hard.
The destruction argument is always a little silly. I get why it’s discussed, it plays a big part in BvS but purely in the context of MoS it still makes complete sense. Clark is doing what he can to stop Zod killing everyone but he’s very inexperienced and has never been in a proper fight before. He cannot fight Zod and save everyone and conversely he would not be able to save everyone even if he focused on helping civilians, Zod would just start killing people directly. It’s simply a realistic fight between Superman and Zod in a city. If he were more experienced or trained he might have been able to move Zod to a less populated area but he was hardly in control of the fight.
I think people wouldn't talk about it today if the consequence of the invasion was explored in a movie & how it effected Clark on the personal level. I guess another movie before BvS would've served DCEU better.
@@DavidBennet I was upset that it wasn't received well, obviously the movie has flaws but I thought it was pretty decent. Like I said I still like the movie, people's opinions on it don't affect my enjoyment of it. Idk how tf you somehow came to that conclusion. Pretty pathetic honestly.
@@DavidBennet his opinion doesn't change but it can be disappointing that now he might not / didn't get to have as many good discussions about it when a majority who dislike/hate things usually don't have good discussions with criticism and just jump to insults. On one hand mf butchers Jon Kent’s character so i completely understand the hate On the other the music is fantastic tells a very good story of an inexperienced Superman who needs to find himself without the usual moral safety net of the would be saints jon and martha Also that “they will join you in the Sun” sequence is top tier
@@beyondtrash1627 exactly in the film he is very human compared to the paragon of moral fortitude Ubermensch chad he usually is, and is a lot more “I don’t know look after yourself, dont hurt people....” Because he’s completely out of his depth, like anyone would be
I thought it was pretty easily understood. He felt that way because he killed the last of his kind...and thus he’s truly alone. I actually loved this movie. From Hans Zimmers score to the DBZ fight scenes. 😂 Just had that epic feel to it. The world engine scene was incredible. He’s truly different from even his own people. He flew through the World Engine which basically was saying he could fly on Krypton which no one was doing there.
@@anmatrix7636 Wonder Woman for sure. Lex as a villain theme given i’m only talking about superheroes. The rest are great but to me personally not as memorable
There are many DC themes which can be added in this list and most of them are memorable. The Dark Knight, The wonder Woman theme, BVS Beautiful lie, Flight, John Williams' Superman, Danny Elfman's Batman, JL animated series theme, The red capes are coming, etc
Faora Ul fighting those soldiers is still one of the most badass things I've seen. Love how the Kryptonians move like they're straight out of Dragonball Z
@@DavidBennet wouldn’t call it excellent but definitely good. But Suicide Squad, Justice League, BvS, and especially the Harley Quinn solo film are bad

So happy you guys finally reacted to my favorite movie of all time :) I'm extremely excited for your BvS and ZSJL reactions!
Aaron really over thinks things. It's pretty clear Kal El is struggling on the ship because it's built for a kryptonian atmosphere. It's like being on Krypton where his powers would be gone. Even with the absorption of the sun. When they are on earth even if they have suits they are on earth in it's atmosphere gaining the power of the sun. Whereas when the mask comes off they are fully exposed and experience what Clark did as a kid.
This was one of the most profound and interesting post-movie discussions I've seen to date. Period. The general analysis and overall mood was on-point. Great job fellas and hope you enjoy the next 2 films as well! 👍👍👍
16:33 General Swanwick being the only one in that room not stepping back in surprise (and perhaps fear) makes so much more sense now post Snyder-cut, knowing who he really is.
It's mostly the same reason 'cause Christopher Reeve's Superman didn't destroy or that Clark could've moved the fight somewhere else. Clark is fighting someone that's as strong as him, how do you move the fight away...Zod would just move it back towards the population.
Well they could have written it to be any situation, that’s what issue people had with it because you can literally write anything, and Superman that we’ve known for 80yrs would do all it takes to move the fight away from people and the city. As Eric said tho this is a young Superman. I’m fine with it and love it, but I see both ways.
@@nicoblac9368 Dont you think it's odd that people don't bring up this for the New York fight in the Avengers? Shouldnt the Avengers have moved the fight away from New York as well? I don't understand how people can expect these new heroes to know exactly what to do at all times, especially given the kind of character Clark is in this movie.
@@nicoblac9368 Oh, yea..of course :) We've had a live action superman in the 40's, 50's 70's, 80's, 90's, 2000's, 2010's which is a long time with a new superman....so rebooting superman with new actor is very hard because of all the legacy it carries.
@@Cryme69 one, the mcu literally did a whole movie about mass destruction during the NY fight, and two I think it’s down to the fact that the Avengers don’t really have the same values as Superman. Iron Man has a hero complex Thors a god, Hawkeye and Black Widow are assassins and the Hulk is a monster. They don’t care as long as they save the day. However Superman, values human life above all, he was born on Krypton but raised here. So it’s pretty strange to see him barrelling though buildings without giving a second though to who might be inside.
Zod screaming, "I WILL FIND HIM!" still sends chills. It wasn't just a threat, it was a promise. Of course he does find him, but it was a great moment.
I love this modernized take on the Superman character. Love Caville's Clark and Supes, the soundtrack, this version of Krypton, LOVE Michael Shannon's Zod. Saw it opening day, seen it maybe 8-10 times since. I'm glad at least Eric shares my enthusiasm for it.
14:54 Mark! Oh! Thanks to you guys, especially Eric saying "alien movie" I just realized how much the farm scenes here remind me of those in "Signs"! 😮
I love how Swanwick being Martian Manhunter is obvious in retrospect even this far back,. When Superman moved toward the mirror everyone took a hasty step back except for him. He was skeptical but never seemed afraid of him.
At first, I thought Jonathan Kent's death was a dumb tornado scene that existed just as another big action set-piece. It's only now that I understand that the scene exists to highlight Kent's belief that his son would not be safe if the world found out what he was. In a way, he sacrificed his life so his kid could live a normal life...until the right time, that is.
Exactly! AND there's the thematic side in that it's a film that's all about choice and free will, and Jonathan _chose_ to die, and Clark had to choose to let him. It works so perfectly to this story.
My problem with it is that the only reason Johnathon died is because he hurt his leg and is an old man. If Clark ran to get the dog instead he would’ve just gotten it no issue and no need for powers, and nobody would’ve batted an eye. It was a pointless death to me.
@@ryanklip24 True! It was due to Jonathan's insistence though to Clark, because he wouldn't risk any chance of Clark being exposed. It's a character flaw at most, and a good one, not a flaw with the film itself.
BULLCRAP! If Clark just went in there, and picked his dad up and jogged him back to their spot, then NO ONE would question that. It is a dumb scene, period.
@@maxdrags3115 ...if all went perfectly. Jonathan just wasn't risking anything that could expose his son to the world. It's fine if you don't like this version, it's all taste but there's no need to try declare it invalid when you don't understand what's happening in it. All the best ✌
This movie is totally underrated, not a lot of people get that this movie tries to explore the begining of Superman and even try to understand the psycholgy of the character. For me personally is a master piece, it puts together action and drama that very few movies can do
I was never a fan of superhero films until I seen this. I’ve never forgot seeing this film for the first time. The music and the experience was just amazing
Just to tack on, the Kryptonians literally DIDN'T need to terraform to survive on earth. But those that were left were warriors and all they knew is to go in and terraform planets.
Yep, imagine you're so xenophobic you literally find an alien race that looks and acts just like your people used to and lives on a planet that gives you superpowers so they can't kill you even with a nuke to the face and you decide on global genocide.
@@Mansplainer2099-jy8ps but they are historical facts that happen like the spanish inquisition, british collonial and etc. Why would they attack, conquer and enslave other countries then?
I like when he's first learning to fly that first she was doing those big long jumps. It's a literal homage to the original Superman who when he first came out in comics was not able to fly, but made the super long leaps. It's a great throwback.
Aaron clearly likes the Marvel formula better than the mythological approach, which is totally fine. But it shouldn't be judged in comparison to the Disney MCU because they're completely different things. The DC approach is perfectly legitimate for these characters.
Well, that and he enjoys the CW shows more. I honestly think that people seem to think MCU is the only way to make a universe in. DC and Marvel will sadly always be compared.
DCEU is about Gods living among us & how they're different than us while MCU seem to humanize the characters to show how we're not so different after all. It's personal preference i guess. Also, DC animated shows we're closer to the later idea.
22:02 Yep, Zach Snyder had them morph his face slightly with Christopher Reeves as a salute to him and to represent a passing of the torch. Also, that scene is my favorite scene of the movie, because it shows that you dont have to have super powers to be a hero. Perry White stayed with that woman and was willing to die beside her just to let her know she wasn't alone.
Eric: _"They don't actually have sex."_ We don't know that, they might have sex every day but Jor-El used his science to counteract whatever they do to prevent classic procreation.
@@charlesgonzalez1406 Come on, how likely is it that they are as capable of reproducing as we are and everyone on Krypton stayed virgins for cultural reasons for thousands of years until Jor-El or Lara went "Let's take a walk on the wild side and try this thing our ancestors used to do. Oops, we're having a baby now."? It makes much more sense that they're engineered to be sterile or something but Jor-El worked around it. Maybe a Kryptonian couple having sex is just like a couple on Earth being into bondage or something. In which case the way Faora looked at Superman makes me think she's a "kinky" Kryptonian like his parents but she wouldn't tell Zod that.
@@Mansplainer2099-jy8ps also Jor El very well could have done it specifically to have a kid instead of it being engineered for a specific purpose like Zod instead of it being by complete chance
The atmosphere on the ship was of krypton. So naturally superman loses all his powers. But as soon as Jor El changes the atmospheric composition to Earths, he gains his powers back. The question of whether superman can only use his powers in front of the sun or not is explained many a times in the comics. Like how can he uses his powers at night on Earth with no sun? The answer is superman's body cells stores the energy. Hence when at morning in the sun, he is gaining powers as well as storing them. So at night, he can use them without the sun. So on the ship if the atmospheric composition was of Krypton's, its understandable that he loses his powers. Even the stored energy in his cells gets dormant. We know that krypton had a red sun and we know that superman loses his powers when near red sun's radiation.
@@gollyjunior6393 you are correct in your observation. Also, not just being overcome with senses on the ship, kryptonians also would have gotten powers as superman. But thay didn't happen as well. I guess you cannot explain everything. Also, I try not to go into too much detail in superhero movies cause we wouldn't be able to answer all the questions. Plus it would steal the magic of watching the movie itself and getting that experience of the unknown.
I don't get why Americans don't like this movie may be they saw so much superman stuff and may be they compare them all but rest of the world this movie is a badass superman movie
@@georgewillis592 People typically watch reactions to content they already like, it's very rare you see a comment section to a film reaction that isn't glowing praise.
I hate that I'm so late to this, but Kryptonians' invulnerability isn't hardened skin. The solar energy they store inside their bodies emit an impenetrable bio-magnetic shield just nanometers aaay from their hair and skin all around their bodies. It's so tight and close to them that it looks like hardened skin, but if you zoomed in tight with a microscope that could also detect all the different electro-magnetic spectrums, you'd see an energy shielding hugging extremely closely to their bodies.
This is hands-down my favorite movie of all time. And I know this is a Superman movie but I always wondered, if Clark would have failed or if this fight would’ve taken longer than it originally did and caused more damage...would Wonder Woman have stepped up and tried to help?
My take on the atmosphere thing. Jor-el say that Earth has a more nourishing atmosphere, which I assume means that it has more oxygen. So, he gets stronger from the sun, but he needs the increased oxygen for his cells to operate at 100%. Think of Clark entering the ship as a normal person suddenly being on top of mount Everest where the air is thinner, his body can't handle it at first.
Just wondering since you're doing this for Justice League can you do the same thing with 3 previous Legendary Monsterverse movies for Godzilla vs Kong when we're close to it?
I mean they'll inevitably react to Godzilla vs Kong plus only Calvin hasn't seen Man of Steel so I think they would still watch it even if only one of them hadn't fully seen it before. Plus I think 2 or 3 of them haven't watched Skull Island
We can infer that Krypton, like Earth, has an primarily oxygen nitrogen atmosphere, but the concentrations vary and each contains different additional elements, hence Clark being sickly as a child, and the Zod Squad having breathing issues on Earth. Krypton is also often stated in the comics to be a heavy-gravity world, so Kryptonians would have a stronger artificial gravity field in their ships. Between the two, Clark's weakness and disorientation on the ship makes sense.
I just assumed they also had a certain level of red sun energy, otherwise all the questions are perfectly valid. why does his skin become weak just because he's having trouble breathing. One mention of radiation when talking about the atmospherics of the ship could have covered it i think. in the end it's just a way to depower superman for any amount of time, like every superman movie, how does he get weakened? lol
@@banditoheat how do you think humans would react to this? They would probably be afraid and start panicking. He had to keep his powers and identity a secret because the world wasnt ready.
@@dragonballspaghetti154 You're absolutely right, letting his dad die is definitely the only sensible choice /s. Too bad he keeps jeopardizing his secret by saving complete strangers afterward leading to him being discovered.
I love these guys but Aaron is annoying sometimes. He says he doesn’t like something because he doesn’t get it. If all Superman lore follows the sun energy thing, then why does kryptonite have any effect on Superman? Did Aaron forget about kryptonite? Also, about the suits and the Kryptonian being super strong on earth while wearing the suits, I always thought the suits were like super suits, like what Lex wears. Is that not the case???
You know what's really funny, lot of people just don't even realize but I remember very vividly that Superman had to kill Zod in the original Superman 2, think about it, Superman tossed their bodies into the the void in the fortress of solitude. He didn't send them back into the phantom zone. I guess because people didn't see them physically die they never made the connection
Now the reason Clark doesn't save his father. Is because his father knows he will save him But he doesn't want him too. Because he will literally sacrifice himself. For Clark so that people don't find out about him. Because Jonathan knows that if the world found out. It will change everything. Many people say why didn't he use superspeed. Well actually he didn't use it once in this movie. He learns to fly at 33 lol. So I don't even think he learnt that he had superspeed in man of steel
A lot of people don’t like this movie because it wasn’t their idea of what Superman is, he’s not saving cats from a tree, wearing tights and as Clark saying, “Gosh gee willikers Lois”
I didn't miss this post. But never got to comment on it. Superman on film has given me chills since childhood. I saw Christopher Reeve in the duel role as an kid and was very taken with it. So when I learned that Zack Snyder was helming MoS with Christopher Nolan & Davis S. Goyer as story creators, I was so excited. Being released during Supes' 75th Anniversary was the icing on the cake. Saw it twice in both IMAX formats. Loved every moment of it. I didn't get the hate or the controversy with this at all. Henry Cavill as Kal-El/Clark Kent/Superman is portraying someone who is unsure of himself. Not dark or brooding, but humanly emotional. He wants to do the right thing and has to learn how to handle it right. The destruction in Metropolis was comic accurate. Battles between heroes and villains in a place like this, there was no holding back. How do you get irritated by something that feels this real and it's only fiction (no idea). Superman putting an end to Zod was an unexpected moment. Taking a life to save another has never been easy for anyone. Kal-El takes a real human response to what he did and sees what most people in public service see everyday. This movie goes to great lengths to make Superman into something special. His first flight sequence with him moving in speed and pace like never before as he should with his kind of power. Him being the first naturally-born kryptonian in centuries, the Codex (full of one billion souls) placed throughout in Kal's dna makes him the most powerful being on earth and of krypton lineage. Other than that, this was my favorite film of 2013. Henry Cavill deserves to continue on as Superman. We do deserve more movies about this icon. The DCEU deserves to progress by any means to be better with each and every film.

Hans Zimmer's score for this film is absolutely FANTASTIC.
Its the only soundtrack I have ever purchased
Agreed
AGREED
He should have won an Oscar for it
It’s my favorite score ever. Sheer power
They spend 3 quarters of the movie on a thematic question and immediately rob the protag of any agency by taking his choice in the matter from him
OR
they don't raise thematic questions at all and undercut the climax by hinging it on a choice with no weight to it.

According to the script it is both yellow sunlight and Earth's environment.
im not sure if that argument would stand up in a lab
@@orangewarm1
Pretty sure gravity exists in labs.
@@eric2465
I’m specifically talking about the kryptonians with the suits on, they are only getting the gravity based powers, not the sun related ones (flight, heat vision, etc.)
Seeing Eric smile throughout this whole movie is so amazing😂 he’s like a kid watching it. Movie is an absolute masterpiece

The reeves movies didn’t even have the budget to do destruction.
Not really the technology either, keep in mind that was made in the 1970’s

Little known fact...they were my abs (in my head)

16:33 General Swanwick being the only one in that room not stepping back in surprise (and perhaps fear) makes so much more sense now post Snyder-cut, knowing who he really is.
I never understood the criticism about all the destruction. It makes sense considering the situation.

@@Cryme69 one, the mcu literally did a whole movie about mass destruction during the NY fight, and two I think it’s down to the fact that the Avengers don’t really have the same values as Superman. However Superman, values human life above all, he was born on Krypton but raised here.

@@maxdrags3115 ...if all went perfectly. Jonathan just wasn't risking anything that could expose his son to the world.
It's fine if you don't like this version, it's all taste but there's no need to try declare it invalid when you don't understand what's happening in it. All the best ✌
Zack & Nolan nailed this movie. Best Standalone CBM I’ve ever seen in my life. Nothing even comes close. Hans Zimmer is perfection.
@@Mansplainer2099-jy8ps historically speaking, genocide or enslavement are the two realistic choices

This movie is so criminally underrated.
I find it best described as the subtitle of the games done by WB Interactive and NetherRealm studios, GODS AMONG US
Well, that and he enjoys the CW shows more.
There’s always this one guy in a group who has seen a movie multiple times 😂
22:02 Yep, Zach Snyder had them morph his face slightly with Christopher Reeves as a salute to him and to represent a passing of the torch.
Also, that scene is my favorite scene of the movie, because it shows that you dont have to have super powers to be a hero. Perry White stayed with that woman and was willing to die beside her just to let her know she wasn't alone.
Its morbin time
Eric: _"They don't actually have sex."_
We don't know that, they might have sex every day but Jor-El used his science to counteract whatever they do to prevent classic procreation.
Or Jor El chose to be the only one thats not a virgin

I appreciate the fact that they made Jor-El into a badass, hand to hand combat scientist dad....
God I love this movie, we don't deserve Snyder. We'll never get a Superman movie this epic.
I don't get why Americans don't like this movie may be they saw so much superman stuff and may be they compare them all but rest of the world this movie is a badass superman movie

I'm really excited for Zack Snyder's JL, so this is a really good way of preparing for it by rewatching MoS and BvS with you guys 👌
I totally forgot about the D-Ships entering V-Ship LOL
The Snyder-Nolan-Zimmer combo was good on this one, this is one of my favorite DC films of any continuity. It's not perfect but I love alot about it
Man, I didn't expect the music in your outro "Somebody Save Me" from "Smallville". I wasn't prepared.
I wanted more Superman from Tom Welling, 10 seasons wasn't enough...
Just wondering since you're doing this for Justice League can you do the same thing with 3 previous Legendary Monsterverse movies for Godzilla vs Kong when we're close to it?
I don't think they have the time in their schedule but I think all of them have seen them besides maybe Eric and Aaron.
One mention of radiation when talking about the atmospherics of the ship could have covered it i think. in the end it's just a way to depower superman for any amount of time, like every superman movie, how does he get weakened? lol
@22:00 just so you know, Superman was going against a weight equivalent to a planet, He was actually lifting a planet on his shoulders,
Not only the best Superman movie, but one of the best Comic Book movies of all time, little real contest.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. No contest? MoS is utter shite.
the big thing is that durell sacrificed himself for clark, His earth dad sacrificed himself too for him. He then sacrifices himself in bvs. That cycle
*Jor-El
I've always thought Jonathan's death was senseless and he was badly written, which impacted other parts of the movie.
@@banditoheat how do you think humans would react to this? They would probably be afraid and start panicking. He had to keep his powers and identity a secret because the world wasnt ready.
@@dragonballspaghetti154 You're absolutely right, letting his dad die is definitely the only sensible choice /s. Too bad he keeps jeopardizing his secret by saving complete strangers afterward leading to him being discovered.
wow realizing right now that Antje Traue (Faora) is in Dark (Netflix).
Eric cant stop smiling the whole movie
You know what's really funny, lot of people just don't even realize but I remember very vividly that Superman had to kill Zod in the original Superman 2, think about it, Superman tossed their bodies into the the void in the fortress of solitude. He didn't send them back into the phantom zone. I guess because people didn't see them physically die they never made the connection
Superman's scream when he kills zod is the same screen he did when he pushed the kryptonite staff fully into doomsday chest in BVS
The second I seen this notification I just screamed " DON'T YOU THREATEN MY MOTHER" in my head. 😂
DAMN YOU BLIND WAVE I WAS JUST ABOUT TO GO TO BED
Now the reason Clark doesn't save his father.
Is because his father knows he will save him
But he doesn't want him too.
So I don't even think he learnt that he had superspeed in man of steel
dude he was 33?
