SUPER/MAN: THE CHRISTOPHER REEVE STORY - Trailer Reaction | DC Studios • Superman
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 вер 2024
- The story of Christopher Reeve is an astonishing rise from unknown actor to iconic movie star, and his definitive portrayal of Clark Kent/Superman set the benchmark for the superhero cinematic universes that dominate cinema today. Reeve portrayed the Man of Steel in four Superman films and played dozens of other roles that displayed his talent and range as an actor, before being injured in a near-fatal horse-riding accident in 1995 that left him paralyzed from the neck down. After becoming a quadriplegic, he became a charismatic leader and activist in the quest to find a cure for spinal cord injuries, as well as a passionate advocate for disability rights and care - all while continuing his career in cinema in front of and behind the camera and dedicating himself to his beloved family. From the directors of McQueen, Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui, this film includes never-before-seen intimate home movies and an extraordinary trove of personal archive material, as well as the first extended interviews ever filmed with Reeve’s three children about their father, and interviews with the A-list Hollywood actors who were Reeve’s colleagues and friends. The film is a moving and vivid cinematic telling of Reeve’s remarkable story.

9:05 Actually, Dana Reeve, a non-smoker for her entire life, sadly died of lung cancer, not breast cancer.
I’m a bi-lateral amputee and have met a few quad amputees who have been major hero’s in my life. Hearing his definition of a hero hit so hard
Thanks so much for sharing!
He isn’t Superman. Superman is him. Whether or not he could walk, Christopher Reeve made everyone believe that no matter the obstacles, a man can truly fly.
Agreed!!!!!
True
Well not really, as Superman has existed since 1938. But I get what you're saying, he embodied the character better than anyone else before or since.
I think of this movie as a tribute to a legendary actor for us, but also as an enduring love letter from his kids to both of their parents, as both of them have now passed.
Dana died of cancer just 2 years after Christopher.
[sigh]
@@acurisur Oh I know lol. He certainly wasn't the first to portray him in film media, but he was probably the one who embodied the character and just breathed life into him in a way that just made Superman as a concept just that much more palpable. Crazy that it's been 20 years since his death, and that it's taken this long to have a movie about him and his family. I'm really hoping this film sheds more light on Dana as well. I remember it being really sad when she passed away so soon after Christopher. I appreciate the trailer, in Christopher's words, acknowledging that Dana probably saved his life. With all the fan discourse over whether or not Henry Cavill should return, or if David Corenswet will do a good job, I think it's as good a time as ever for fans, young and old, to look back at Christopher Reeve, as he really continues to be what so many think of as Superman.
Saw this movie at Sundance and every person in the theater was balling for 3 hours straight. Highly recommend.
@@duhpizzaboi Movie is only 90 minutes. ??
@@albertascott99 I seem to remember reading somewhere that there was a Q & A with the family after the showing. So I assume those are the 3 hours referred to.
@@michs342 correct
@@albertascott99 first showing at Sundance family plus director and crew were there for Q & A. Everyone in the audience also stayed around for an extra 45 minutes talking about how good it was. Suffice to say just because the run time is 90 minutes doesn’t mean you’re only allowed to cry for that exact amount of time. ??
It is indeed a moving tribute to a great guy. Also, just as a TMYK thing, it's "bawling", not "balling" when you're talking about crying.
I still remember when the accident happened and they announced his paralysis on the news. I went to my room, grabbed my old Toy Biz Superman action figure and cried my eyes out on my bedroom floor. He was my hero, and the idea of something bad happening to him crushed me.
There's a lot of cut onions in my room atm.
That John Williams re-score just makes the trailer hit that much harder😢. His portrayal of the character really has no equal, and as amazing as he was as Superman, my favorite part was the way he played Clark Kent in such a way that really made it believable that people wouldn't recognize they were the same person. Between his performance and John Williams' iconic score, i would say they're the reason that original movie still holds up 46 years later
That music immediately takes me back to my childhood. Forever grateful to my parents for taking us with them to the movies when we were little. Saw I & II in the theater.
Lol, full disclosure, we were very good at being quiet and calm in spaces like that so they never had issues with meltdowns from us.
@@MyUnsecretIdentity I absolutely agree with you!
I have cried every time I have watched this trailer and the reactions to it.
@@chrisbeaudoin1852 Same!! 😢
@@chrisbeaudoin1852 same
I suffered a spinal cord injury, 11 years ago. I am 36 as of yesterday. Not quite as severe as Christopher, but still pretty devastating. I have a hard time with media and content that deals with spinal cord injury because it obviously triggers me emotionally so I don't know if I can realistically watch this, but I will say that I do believe that I wouldn't have the quality of life that I'm able to have if it weren't for the Christopher and Dana foundation and by this, I mean that they have done so much to move the needle forward for people who suffer SCI, directly and indirectly.
Oh man the reorchestration of the Superman theme is really incredible in this trailer. Good luck tomorrow Adam!
❤ Christopher Reeve had the strength of Superman and lived life to the the full. He was my hero in childhood and a inspiration in adulthood, and his appearance in the show Smallville was magical. The Man of Steel. ❤❤❤
Christopher Reeve is, has been, and will always be, my Superman.
I commented this on the trailer video too but I’ll say it here too. I’m 32 and I’ve never seen a single Chris reeves Superman film but I hold the reverence that he means for the character and this makes me wanna watch his movies in a marathon. Fly high, Chris ❤.
1) Christopher Reeve made the whole "how can no one tell Superman is Clark Kent, he just puts on a pair of glasses" thing TOTALLY believable. 2) I forget who said it and I'll botch the quote, but Reeve also exemplifies what was said about Superman, something like, "he's not a hero because he is good and has power, he is a hero because he has power and does good."
He didn't just make it believable. It's real. It happened. To him. I remember him telling a story about how he was shooting Clark Kent scenes, then they cut for lunch. He decided, on a whim, not to change out of his costume. So he just walked in to the local diner, dressed as Clark Kent, presumably still acting like Clark Kent (you know, hunched shoulders, lack of confidence, all of that stuff). Nobody ever realized it was him. Mind you, everyone in the city knew they were filming "Superman" down the street and that he was playing Superman. And, yeah, nobody in that diner realized it was him. He was like, "Huh. Well holy crap, it worked!" So yeah, Christopher Reeve proved that the "Clark Kent Disguise" actually works.
You can tell just from this trailer that this movie was made by people who loved Christopher Reeve and his superman. I showed it to my mother, and she cried, so I cried with her, lol. There's a reason why people think of his superman when talking about the character. I hope to see this in the theater ❤❤❤❤
This trailer felt like a movie. So I'm really glad y'all reacted to it.
This kind of reminds me of the documentary about Mr. Rogers. There wasn't a dry eye in the theater at the end of that one, either. Better bring a BOX of tissues.
The idea of Superheroes on the big screen has evolved a lot in the last 46 years, but Christopher Reeve's performance as Clark Kent/Superman is still the blueprint for how to do it successfully. The way he embodied the character and brought such a presence to the screen is something actors in the role of a superhero still need to do to this day. That's what being an icon means.
You will believe grown men can cry. The fact that the Trailer gets people emotional...the movie itself is gonna be unbelievable. Wow. I hope they pass out boxes of facial tissues when buying a ticket for this movie. Thanks for sharing!
I love Christopher reeves as Superman. He’s iconic.
He is my only Superman!
One of Christopher's sons is in the James gunn superman movie as a reporter or news anchor.
Superman the movies is the greatest superhero movie ever and it’s all because of him. He made us all believe a man can fly even to this day
Robin Williams and Christopher Reeve went Juilliard with Kevin Conroy. Now they are all gone. Batman, Superman and Popeye.
He was so good-looking and fun loving. In one of his first interviews, I think on Larry King Live, after his accident he answered a question about what happened to him with this (paraphrased) "Some people fall out of a window on the sixth floor and only have a few scratches. Others trip over their shoe laces and have a fatal fall." His and Robin Willams' friendship was everything the definition of friiendship should be.
That was not the actual footage of his near fatal accident. Apparently he fell straight on the top of his head and his first 2 vertebrae were crushed by the weight of his entire body. Basically his injury could be compared to being decapitated because his skull was no longer attached to (the rest of) his spine, but was only attached to the rest of his body by skin, veins, arteries, muscles and nerves. It's a miracle he survived at all.
I didn’t know much about him. But I’ve always heard he was a good man and I would love to see this documentary.
2:18 his youngest son Will is going to be in the new Superman movie. 3:49 Will was around 2 yrs old when the accident happened. The other two were in their teens. 4:31 they were roommates at Juilliard and a week after the accident Robin walked into his hospital room dressed in scrubs, face mask and speaking in a Russian accent going around saying medical terms and doing his crazy antics. Christopher said that was the first time he laughed since the accident. What’s really sad was he was just starting to get feeling back in his extremities. Pin pricks in fingers and toes. He could also feel different temperatures. I think they’re doing it now to coincide with the new movie. 8:26 Matt(1979) & Alexandra(1983) are from a previous relationship and Will(1992) is with Dana. So Will was about 12 when his dad died and about 14 when his mom died. My father in law had to grow up like that. He has an older brother and sister and his parents died within two years of themselves before he was 15. Listening to him talk about growing up gives me a great idea of how Will felt.
5:21 when that Superman Theme started playing. Just goosebumps😢
I, like many others, had the biggest crush on Christopher Reeve. I must have watched his movies over a thousand times since they were released. Even now, when I need to unwind and feel better, I can turn on those films to help make sense of the world again. 😢❤
Came for the tears and wasn't disappointed. I wasn't prepared for the emotional pull of this trailer when I saw it.
Makes me glad, that I wasn't the only one that was emotional watching this trailer, I have been in a Wheelchair all my life, Christopher Reeve inspired me as Kal-El later as him the person, I can't wait to see this film. Thank you sir for teaching me how to fly, even when I can't walk. 💙❤️💛🙌🏼
He was the Godfather of Robin's oldest song. That kind of close they were. No friends but Brothers!
i don’t think i’m ready to cry this much in a theater
A real hero!
Hi, I happened to watch this and just wanted to say that, ages ago as a older Kid both my Mother and Grandma watched Soaps and I remember first ever seeing Christopher Reeve on I think- Guiding Light or Secret Storm. Then many yrs later he shows up in this huge Superman movie lol. Over the many many years I saw quite a few interviews done with him and later he and Dana, such love and dedication to each other....that was wonderful. Their 1 son together- Will, actually works as a correspondent for ABC news and GMA. It's something to see that all 3 "kids" to some extent look like their Father. 😊 🙏RIP CR💐
This trailer really hit me hard. Reeve was Superman and he made 3year old me believe a man could fly. Now 40 years later the man is still the hero that many can only dream of.
Ohhhh myyy gosh!
Just happened by this because I love and revisit your Star Wars and The Last of us content…
My Gosh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am old. I remember it all. Thank you guys so much for this moment. He did so much!!!
He will always be my favorite superhero!!!!!!!
I was blown away when I watched Superman for the first time.
The way they remixed the Superman music, that got me.
I have watched this trailer and others reacting to it several times now...and I don't know how anyone can watch this without crying or at least tearing up...simply heroic. I remember where I was when I heard that he was hurt AND when he passed...he has been flying for nearly 20 years now.
Christopher's children's age at the time of his accident, Mathew was 15, Alexandra was 12 and Will was 3 years old.
Oh I was really anticipating for this reaction because of Adam and his love for Superman. 🫂💖
Reverse spinning the Earth in rage & grief to turn back time to save Lois. I gotta find time to see this documentary to pay tribute 🫡 to the amazing Man who left a lasting impression in so many lives as to what a Hero is.
Rest in Praise, Mr. Reeve 🙏🏾
Been waiting on this one from you guys. This one got me 😢
Thanks for this reaction. I remember Mr. Reeve and the news of the accident. Crazy. And to have his wife die a few years later. 😢 From lung cancer by the way. Just heartbreaking. Fun fact, Will Reeve is a Good Morning America correspondent.
5am EST almost 1.9 million views and #4 on trending says it all about this Super/Man !
There's many of over-hyped movies coming out or since released this year, but THIS ONE is the one that I am looking forward to the most. I want to be there with other people in the audience who have the same feelings that I would.
I know him more for his comedic roles and his awesome episode of Tale From the Crypt, I actually didn't watch his superman movies. I think I saw the first one eventually as a kid... He was a talented guy and I remember growing up with him in the public eye after the accident. He's a charming, wonderful man! Super, even! This trailer made me cry for sure.
One of the 20th centuries greatest real heroes.
So agree!!!!!!
I can’t wait to see it with my dad. He saw that first Superman film as a teen, so seeing this with him will be great. I will probably cry and be a mess too.
The story of this man is a hope for many and what he represents on the screen could only be embodied by him, Christopher Reeve is a symbol of the human being, of courage, of compassion, of humanism, of friendship. and love. With what is happening in the world right now, where humans are harming other humans in the most horrible ways and many have forgotten what it means to be a human... seeing this man's story, will remind us perhaps our heroic part. ...that we must assume: be good to each other and help each other. No hatred, only humanism and love.
And after his wife died, Robin adopted Will, they were not only friends, they were brothers
Damn its everyones Birthday 😂
I never knew until watching this how he became paralyzed. This trailer alone had me bawling my eyes out. Definitely won't be watching it in theater and crying around a bunch of people lol
@_JohnC_ dude. If your a fan who cares. Guaranteed everyone else will be crying too. Don't let that stop you cause I'm sure that's not stopping them.
Every time I watch the trailer or watch reactions to the trailer I tear up. 2 days straight now.
I believe the thumbnail or poster of the documentary shows Christopher Reeves Superman, the man in front of red streak is so classical Superman mythos. RIP Christopher Reeve and Diana Reeve. Vaya con dios.
That day is also my niece's birthday!
Man, I didn't think just a trailer could make me nearly cry. This movie is going to be something special.
What a human being. Looks incredible
Such a brilliant human.
best trailer I've ever seen in my life. my Hero as a kid, the music and Superman clips had me in tears 😢
Trailer made me cry more each time
I watched the trailer 😢
12:50 yeah I'm 37 too. 24 is still a baby haha - I barely feel like a grown up in my late 30s and I've got a wife and 2 kids and we're on house number 2.
I was finishing my Junior year in HS when we found out he was paralyzed. The social devastation in a pre-mass internet, pre-social media world was immensely profound. It reminded me how the world reacted when Magic Johnson announced he had HIV in 1991. Like Magic, Reeve was a generational icon. He was "superhuman" and along with the likes of JFK Jr., the closest we had to American Royalty. Those incidents, but especially with Reeve, made us question our mortality and life's fragility. 1995 was already weird as we were halfway through the OJ Murder "Trial of the Century." But this moment helped us focus on something a little less toxic for a brief moment, even as tragic as it was.
I really hope one of the theaters closer to me end up showing this cause this is a definite YES for me ^_^
He will always be my Superman. I saw Superman The Movie in theaters when I was 4 in 1978. I had Superman Underoos. I had the John Williams score on vinyl. (Still do) I wore Superman pajamas and flew around the house all day long. I can't wait for this. I will be weeping during this.
🙌 T H I S 🙌
Christopher Reeve SUPERMAN
He proved himself a true Superman after that accident. I'm in tears because he was my first hero. My first friend. That five year old boy that I was even saw him as a father figure. The music helped because it was the krypton theme. Beyond that it was just Christopher being Christopher. Gone too soon. I'm definitely going to try and see this RIP Christopher and Dana.
I couldn't hold it when i hear that music damn ♥️
Saw this a little late but thanks for pointing out how Reeve's genuine passion and enthusiasm for the role of Superman vs his peers like Keaton probably had to do in part with how young he was at the time. I'm in the same boat where I first saw that movie when I was maybe 5 years old so it never clicked for me that he was only 24 at the time. When you brought that up my very first thought was to Mark Hamill who was also in his early 20's when first playing Luke, and that same energy.
“And over the last few years we have heard a lot about something called ‘family values’. And like many of you, I have struggled to figure out what that means. And since my accident, I've found a definition that seems to make sense. I think it means that we're all family. And that we all have value.”
Christopher Reeve, speaking at the Democratic National Convention in 1996.
What a Super Man.
I remember when he got injured. People were like "Whaaaaat?" It just couldn't happen to him. There is a Super Bowl commercial for a bank that shows a 'special' person getting up from a wheel chair to receive an award... It was a REALLY good CGI of Christopher Reeve walking to receive it. It was so emotional. People were pissed that they used his image for a bank commercial... But I thought it was very tasteful and well done. And inspiring.
@HeroesReforged Please watch the Donner Cut of Superman II.
Don’t you worry ❤
In the movie My Favorite Year, a young man says to his movie idol...
"You couldn't have convinced me the way you did unless somewhere in you, you had that courage. Nobody's that good an actor."
That is why Christopher Reeve is the defining Superman. He really had that courage and that strength. And it came through in his performance.
I watched the trailer never having watched the Christopher Reeves’s movies, and was teary eyed by the end, because DAMN. 😢 now i have to go see it!
Oh my God! 😢 I remembered seeing the news and being completely confused& shocked. Seeing this trailer just broke my heart! But I'm excited to see it and learn more about him and his family. ❤
Love Christopher ❤ Glad the masses will be reminded of his greatness
Don't know much about Christopher Reeve but this trailer made me cry, and I really enjoyed you guys reacting to it. Will definitely be watching it when it comes out 🌻
When I saw the thumbnail I thought it was weird for them to be crying at a trailer. Halfway through the trailer, I'm here bawling my eyes out. 😢
I can’t stop crying 😢he was my hero as a kid
It's pretty crazy that the Superman symbol means Hope and the man who played this iconic character gave so many hope.
I found you guys watching an old video (Superman & Lois reaction). So now I came in to see what else there is on this channel and KNEW IT! I knew I'd find the reaction to this SUPER AWESOME trailer :D
Loved it, was just simply SUPER!!!!❤❤❤
There will never be a better Superman then Christopher Reeve never
I think Chris also did a version of the classic Hitchcock film 'Rear Window'.
This movie is going to absolutely wreck me, and I'm here for it.
Incredible man, Incredible trailer. Cant wait. So inspiring.
This film is coming out Sept 21st and 25th which is an important date because it would've been his 72nd birthday.
The one...
The only...
Superman!
I'm a September 25th birthday too! Represent!
Holy f that was emotional...
Happy Birthday.
Have y’all watched his other works? Somewhere in Time is a cult classic, has a young Jane Seymour in it.
The Most Legend ❤
“Help is on the way” …Yup, that’s when I lost it 😭
I don’t know if I’m gonna be able to watch this movie but great discussion guys; I wasn’t born in the 70s but I definitely loved watching this version of Superman.
Love it
I'm a video editor. I've been working with videos and animations for 17 years now... And I say: THE EDITING OF THIS TRAILER IS PERFECTION. I cry every single time I watch this. I'm crying right now as I'm typing this comment! I mean... come on!
Amazing... truly amazing
Yeah.. This is one I might need to watch at home, the trailer alone has me in a wreck
Lots of great comments here, but I'd like to life up and celebrate Dana Reeve for her heroism as well. Looking forward to learning more about their lives and their love.
As someone who's paralyzed from the waist down since birth, I never had a lot of people, who where in a similar position as me, as role models. And I don't know much about him besides he played Superman, had an accident and was in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. This trailer convinced me to see this documentary, although I will be a sobbing mess for 1 hour and 45 minutes 😢😅
It’s said. Will was 14 I think when his father died and his mom died less then a year later of lung cancer and I heard that she never smoked
whew........gonna have to bring an entire box of tissues to the theater for this one
