Watching someone young like yourself is like discovering these songs all over again. Thanks bruh. You do this old man a good turn. 😁
And this old man...
... and this one👍
...and this one too!
And this old lady, too!
@@bju194422 ☺
This is Eric Burdon,
THE COOLEST GUY IN ROCK MUSIC.
THANKS MAN, loved this reaction.
👊👊😁👍
This was a song I felt so hard growing up in the 60’s. I wasn’t real good communicating and always thought, “Lord, please don’t let me be misunderstood”.
BTW, I am #hangovergang forever ✌🏽
DITTO!! Talk about being a total misfit and too mature for the kids I went to school with and forced to be a good kid at all times or, my folks would just get rid of me and make a new one, and they had no problem making sure I knew that from the get go.... Considering I'm from Sicilian heritage, and how my father grew up, I sure didn't doubt one word he said. I was born in the very early 60's and the Animals were always on the radio and on my older sister's hifi.
I understand you. ☺🤓
I was 14 and I loved it then and I love it now. The parents weren't so crazy about The Animals for one of the reasons we loved Eric Burdon and that was his bad boy look. Probably didn't like that raw delivery either, but man we sure did. We felt the same way you do now listening to this.
Well, they aren't called the "Animals" for nuttin! Great reaction, Blunt. There is so much music from the golden age of rock that your generation is missing out on. And it's COMPLETELY different than what is being created today.
U are so right and for that much ❤❤❤❤
The bassist in The Animals, Chas Chandler, was introduced to an unknown Jimi Hendrix in a club and soon after left the band to become Jimi's manager, and was instrumental in helping Jimi develop during his Experience years.
Glad someone else besides me knows this fact... Why you think Chas is always smiling Brilliantly.
... even loaning his Gibson EB-2 bass guitar to "the Experience" for the entire run of recording sessions for 1 of their albums.
Eric Burdon and The Animals. Treasures! I suggest, if I missed it, your reaction to, “We Gotta Get Outta This Place.” Grab your heart, it will. I caught a video of Eric in recent years, not sure the timeframe, singing “House of the Rising Sun”, which I know you reacted to. He still killed it! His voice got a bit more raspy but, dang! Those high, hard-edged notes…dizzy knees! So glad your back and hope your lady is doing well. Hugs.
These guys were my dad's favorite...I remember it from childhood 50+years ago...I luv them
Your reaction was wonderful, so glad you're listening to this!
That voice, emotion & power, contradicts how still & stiff he stands. So controlled & blows you away!
This bass player here in this video, (Chas Chandler), left the group not long after this song was released, and went into managing acts. He managed Jimi Hendrix !! (digest that one)
Keep an eye out for the 1970 live performance of “Spill the Wine” by Eric Burdon (the lead singer here) & War.
Dude check out the 70s version by Santa Esmeralda it's amazing. This dude with the animals also helped start the band war. He's definitely a treasure
You are soo good with these reactions. I have been listening to you for a long time and have enjoyed all your vlogs. Please keep up the great work.
:) thanks for the comment. Happy you’re enjoying the videos !
Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood
Written by Gloria Caldwell, Sol Marcus, Bennie Benjamin
Performed by The Animals
By Arrangement with EMI Records UK and ABKCO Records...was a great song in the 1992 movie American Me...thanks for the reaction...i love this song
I am the same age as Eriic Burden ,I saw him in concert in my twenties He was Electric ,and I still listen to him to this day . Great to hear him still going strong I’m glad you you appreciate how good he is.
May you continue to enjoy
Thanks for the "wheel up" 😀 Your eyes show me that you have a wisdom beyond your age!
I was 16 when this song was tearing up the radio...I didn't know another teenager who didn't sing along on the chorus!
"Don't let me be misunderstood" hit really hard, considering the social unrest in the USA at the time.
Cops were shooting citizens in record numbers, the memories of Kent State were still fresh...
Being understood was VERY important in our day-to-day survival.
Love watching you enjoy the old classics ❣️❣️❣️💯
#TheAnimals
lol glad you enjoyed it mate. The delivery, the energy... spot on bro! There is also darkness in this song. PS you really need to check out the influence of Jamaica and the Caribbean on British music. Check out some British Ska/Two tone music such as The Specials, Madness, The Selecter, The Beat, Bad Manners, The Bodysnatchers etc. Seriously big cultural revolution of mixed race bands in the UK during the late 70s in Punk and 80s with Ska and Two-tone!
Damn, that sounds interesting, i may have to look up some of those...
@@robberrie677 Lots of people came to the UK from Jamaica and the Caribbean in the 50s and 60s and influenced British culture. The first generation who grew up in the late 70s and 80s formed mixed bands and Ska and Two-tone really took off. They were also quite political with songs from bands like The Specials - Nelson Mandela that changed political history and put pressure on the UK government to enforce sanctions on S.Africa's apartheid state. Within 6 years Mandela was released in part because of this and other global pressures. If you want to get a little idea of the upbeat tempo something like Madness - One Step Beyond is a good place to start :)
Haircut 100 Love Plus One, baby!
Oh how I miss the 60's music. Holding hands for the first time, first kiss, family and Church on Sunday. Thank you for bringing this back.
Eric Burden was 24 years old, here.
After the crises and constrained social mores of the Great Depression, World War 2, the first generation raised in peace and prosperity came of age in the 1960s, 70s. Eric Burden was born in England in 1941.
An attempt to memorialize him was made by the Plaster Casters. The mold cracked.
Next Animals song... we gotta get out of this place... or... it's my life... both are bangers...
❤❤❤❤ It !! I'm 64 & 1st heard it on small transistor radio THEN got to see them on OLD Ed Sullivan show....Little Man Eric Always Killed !! P.S. Got to say LOVE your reactions!! My FAV Your's to Comfortably Numb...I was in College knew when The Wall Album came out I took it home & listened to whole thing by myself & closed eyes & bobbed head the same way !!
Didn't Nina Simone do it before The Animals? I love all the versions, and was lucky to grow up with a dad so in love with music, he'd have to stop the song and tell the history of it, play all the different versions, and talk about the inspirations and homages present in these songs. Coincidentally this song was always the theme for him and his dual diagnosis bipolar and substance abuse issues. 😭💖
The Animals are my Mum's favourite band, so I heard their songs a lot when I was very little.
So I didn't know that not everybody sang like this!
Pure talent live without autotune...The 60/70s music was the very BEST!
Everybody has doubts in their lives about what they say or what they do sometimes. The idea that we can all say that we are good and we are just misunderstood is an amazing concept to be held. Simple phrases can bring so much meaning. Rock on my friend
Would like to suggest the following:
Janis Joplin....Ball and Chain (Monterey Pop Festival 1967)
Known as the queen of Rock, there is and never will be a singer like her.
Also...Little Girl Blue ..sang with true heart from her depths.
Enjoy. The music then was raw talent without technical help.
Dont forget Me and Bobby Magee...
Pretty sure that the original was done by Nina Simone. The Animals, as always, have a way of making it their own.
Nina was crazy ahead of the times
The song was written for and performed by the legendary Nina Simone in 1964. It's more than worth a listen itself
Well whaddya know, you just taught this old girl something new. I used to do welups (hope I spelt that right) all the time with my tapes, specially with the animals, no wonder my tapes used to get chewed up too quick. 🤣
Eric Bourdon was so good and I followed his music career since I was a kid. You might wanna give Eric Bourdon and war a listen, spill the wine was their most popular one, but I loved the B side of the old 45 single, called magic mountain. That smooth in and out bass line gets me every time, if you listen to it, you'll know what I'm talking about. His long time number 1 hit with the animals was House of the rising sun. 💞😘👌
man... I grew up chewing on this music. sometimes I forget that I'm old. that young'uns have *never heard all this gold* shocks me
this is a different version than the one that played on the radio. each has its strengths.
dude. try some Yardbirds - Heart Full of Soul, Over Under Sideways Down, etc...
and know that all these English bands had deep roots in the Blues. Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, etc...
Great reaction, older music is awesome! ❤❤❤❤🤍
Have you done their version of “House of the Risin’ Sun”. It is definitely another timeless hit form them.
Blunt did that one last week, fun to watch...
@@robberrie677 yeah, I found it after posting.
Listen to everything the animals did and then anything by Eric Burdon, god we were all so in love with him.
I like your reactions. You actually listen objectively. I am a 64 year old Brit woman, never been out of Europe. I was a kid when I first heard this. (My brother was 10 years older than me and bought a record each week.) I have always loved it. Its so bloody lovely to see a young man who, on paper, is supposed to be so different from me (age, culture, gender, etc) enjoy this great piece of music in the same way I do, and appreciate the same things about it. That is the lesson right there. And why music is so important.
Wow........ Grew up with them. He is one of a kind.
Bruce Hornsby and The Range - "The Way It Is"
100% GUARANTEE you'll recognize it, and then be blown away by how amazing the original is, and by Bruce's keyboard skills.
✌😎
Don't wake Wig Head up just to listed to a song
LOL 😂😅😂🤣🤣😅😆🤣
From a 77 year old.....which version has a more sincere, apologetic delivery? CORRECT!!! I just love younger folks reacting to "our" songs, particularly younger blacks. I have a very close black friend who I lived with for a year in the 60's and your enthusiastic reaction really sent me back to that time when the 2 of us were influencing each other's music tastes. Thanks!!!
YES!!! Definitely tell your daughter all about these classic songs! My dad used to let me sit up late listening to his old records. Beautiful memories ❤ She will always remember that and will thank you for it. Peace to you my friend 🙏
a wheel-up, ok got it, didn't know you were from Jamaica, I remember when "The Harder They Come" came out in '74, love Jimmy Cliff, Bob Marley, Desmond Dekker, all those greats, this is what I grew up with, just order THE ANIMALS greatest hits on CD, it's about $12, love your reactions!
Next (please): “We gotta get out of this place”. This one was used as part of the soundtrack of a movie about the Vietnam war. ua-cam.com/video/wJVpihgwE18/v-deo.html
THUMBS UP to the mountain of energy you speak to, Blunt! Great comments!
Another good band.... Credence Clearwater Revival. Songs: Fortunate son, proud mary, down on the corner, put me in coach...
TY..first saw this on Ed Sullivan Show, back in the 60's...some music, always good, his Voice!
Eric burdon vocal.chas Chandler bass
Hilton valentine guitar. Alan price keyboard.john steel drums.chas and Hilton are gone Alan left the group on 1966
Eric stills performs.check out winds of change album from 1968
I grew up on this music. That killer voice...
the B-side of She Loves You
Lil Wayne just took the intro of the original version recorded by Nina Simone, check out her body of work too., great stuff. The Animals, like a lot of bands, did their version after they were sent the song (and recorded nearly the same time Nina recorded it, maybe even a week later). The song was written by Horace Ott (he came up with the concept after he had a fight with his wife) and writing partners Sol Marcus and Bennie Benjamin completed it.
I really appreciate this young man's reaction
Thanks, loved it! Try "We gotta get outta this place" and "It's my life" -I think you will like them!
Thanks for being real about your commentary, bringing in the lll Wayne version was good, I really must say you missed a great opportunity to show both versions comparatively. Just a suggestion, but I do appreciate your honest and reasonable review. Cheers from Canada
I vaguely remember that song when I was running around just a little older than a rugrat. That was definitely years ago. Seems like there was some conflict back day with some of their music. Then back day a lot of music was full of conflict from different angles. But definitely had some good music for 60's.
Back in the day we had some great songs ❤
I've watched your journey of discovery as you step back in time & I have a suggestion... Have you ever heard of Les Paul?
His name is commonly associated w/ guitars, for good reason he was the original guitar god.
If it weren't for him none of the music we listen to today would exist, he invented multi track recording & there's NOT ONE guitarist in the last 70yrs that hasn't been influenced by his playing abilities.
He & his wife Mary Ford were huge in the 1950s. He was still preforming into his 90s at the Iridium in NY, he died in 2018 at 93.
I hope this convinces you to take this trip in the way back machine. Try "How High the Moon" you'll be amazed that it's just 2 ppl.
We listened that way in the 60s stop repeat. Is there any other way
I saw the Animals a couple of years ago, og drummer and keyboard player. In their 70/80s but still great
Love your reaction videos. Recommending the Guess Who “Undun” or “American Women” live versions, of course. Recommend their Midnight Special performances.
Just wanted to say how much I enjoy your reactions. Keep ‘em coming!
Eric bourdon is the singer. Now check him years later- splill that wine with eric and the band WAR.
I'd rather be hated than misunderstood.
I met Eric Burdon in the early 2000s and literally coolest guy ever. Record executives wanted him to compete with Rolling Stones but they wanted to replace all his band matesHe said NFW and.....true artist.
Isn’t this song fabulous?? ❤
I just fell in love with your reactions, only seen 2 Animals reactions and you have made my soul so happy. There is so much
For you to discover music from the 60's and 70's was inventive, experimental, pure soul,.
Energy and positivity
"cause I'm just a.... something something". Lol. Cool of you to recognise it. This is one of the great songs from my teens in the 60's.
This too is a cover. It was recorded about a year earlier by Nina Simone for whom it was written.
..."Class of 76"...I enjoy atching today's younger adults hearing the real song of a version they thought was the original...Thx!
Check out Eric Burdon and WAR doing, "Spill the Wine"...
Listen to Joe Cockers cover version from his 1969 LP “With A Little Help From My Friends”. Also listen to the LP title track & “Feelin’ Alright”.
My wife called it "the full experience!" lol
Little Trivia, it was the manager record company that had them go there and do that. They just left the show had to pack up their gear. Get to the stubio, get their gear set up. They got 11 try. They only got it, got it once and so it's they screwed it up too bad. Then you know I mean, things back then were a lot different. You didn't have social media anyway, they had to do it in one take, and then they had to leave and go to the next gig. So they tore down said I've turned down setup. I mean, and that's how it was, but keep in mind that everybody has their own unique music. It's not like today, where everybody sounds the same. I think they all sound the same. There's no soul in bunch of the songs they sing now and it's so sad. So thanks cell telephone I don't know. I hate him and I don't think kids should have them. I mean, you know, first you think that they're safety. But then it becomes a dependency and addiction. Addiction, there we go anyway.
Santa Ezmarelda/Please Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood ALBUM Version 1970's cover
The Animals epitomized 60s teenage angst.
...so lovable reaction❣️...
One of the greatest English bands
"Sky Pilots" is another great Animals song...
That bass player was Jimmy Hendrix's manager. Another old band to check out is Grand Funk Railroad. "inside Lookin Out", "American Band", "I'm Your Captain".
I love watching the younger generation groove on the stuff I grew up on
17 yrs old... this is crazy. He was 17
You'll like It's My Life, We Gotta Get Out Of This Place, Don't Bring Me Down and others...enjoyed your reaction. I'm one of those old guys who grew up with this version and it impacted me greatly.
Absolutely love your reaction! Thanks for getting this artist so
clear. House of the rising sun is a favorite too.😍
I think you might want to consider checking out the Animals Greatest Hits. You just may recognize some of the tunes there. The later songs of the band became Eric Burdon and the Animals. There’re 2 bands, but both have Eric Burdon. Check ‘em out!
that you re started it that many times is what I appreciate. love seeing minds blown wide the eff open when they realize that "hook" was borrowed or that 'hit" was a cover from 47 yrs ago...from some of the best ever. Makes me giggle every time....
Lol I kept repeating after the video was recorded as well 🤣 was stuck on that song for over an hour
Love your reaction ! We teach you through our music & now younger generations are discovering & covering the fantastic music of the 50’s 60’s 70’s and on🎉 I grew up listening to the music especially of the 60’s & 70’s 💜☮️ Great that Lil’Wayne listens to the ‘old’ music!! In my opinion music never gets old & it does wonders for the soul Thanks for bringing back the good ones ❣️❤️🔥💎 sending good vibes from 🇨🇦
I was about 11 years old when this song came out. The animals still have a very strong impact on me as I listen. Many of their songs have a deep meaning to them, which we can all relate to, unlike a lot of the surfacy shallow stuff they put out now. Have you listened to "We Gotta Get Out of This Place," also by the Animals? Another great song.
To Blunt 🚬,If little Wayne stole this from the Animals, then they stole it from Nina Simone who sang this originally. Little Wayne's version brought it a new generation, the animals didn't (,they released there version a year after Nina),So he's keeping it alive
Next up Eric Burton and the Animals,Sky Pilot, long version for the Veterans you will understand in the first 19seconds .🇨🇦🍁
Thanks! Now I have to go check out the original, I had a feeling lol
@@TooBlunt The original will send in overdrive, make sure your properly medicated
Just listened to her version, it was slower and more like blues or jazz. The Animals rocked it up a bit, their rock sounding version sounds better to me...
Love this song ❤❤❤❤❤
Find and play the song Sky Pilot! I think it came out in '63!! I think this is an anti war song but it's to late for Korea and to early for Vietnam! I mean, the pots were boiling they just hadn't run over! YET!!
i'm just a soul, who's intentions are good
Without Eric, we might have missed Jimi Hendrix.
Great reaction
Their song Monterey is a biopic of the first Monterey International Pop Festival which pre- dated Woodstock.
The song where Pie Face gets shanked in prison. 😂
The song was written for and originally recorded by Nina Simone. I'm not going to argue who had the better record. The Animals certainly had a bigger hit with it, but Nina's record shows a more vulnerable aspect. Regardless, we have to credit Eric Burdon, Alan Price, and their band for choosing great songs and putting their stamp on them.
Still reminds me of the movie “American Me”
Some other older music I think is fantastic is from Clearwater Credence Revival. I didn't see any reactions to them on the channel, if you haven't heard their songs Have You Ever Seen the Rain, Bad Moon Rising, Who'll Stop the Rain, or Fortunate Son please consider them. So so good.
I enjoy the hell out of your reaccs
❤️
I think you may have done The Animals "House of the Rising Sun". If not go there.
That was the first song I heard from them :) it’s in my channel from last week
@@TooBlunt Go one layer deeper then and try Eric Burdon (Animals lead singer) and War "Spill the Wine". It's a different level for sure.
Noted. This is going to be fun
@@TooBlunt Yes it will. I'm going to get some now. Talk later.
May I suggest for your listening pleasure, Steve Winwood and Traffic, "Low Spark of High heeled Boys"? Love your reactions, greetings from Australia.
The bass player for the animals became the manager for Jimi Hendrix and put him in the spotlight after the animals we're set free
