This song was one of the reasons that "Dark Side of the Moon" was on Billboard's Top 200 Chart for a record 950 weeks, which is a little over 18 years. The entire album is a masterpiece.
when I was 16 I thought 50 years was so long, at 51 i cant believe how fast the time has gone, 16 feels like last week. Prepare for the future, live for the present, learn from the past...its not easy to do and it will all be gone before you know it.

This might be the most satisfying reaction to “Time” I’ve ever seen, and I’ve watched dozens. I applaud your intelligence and thoughtfulness. This is why I subscribe to your channel.
I was in my senior year of high school, just 3 months from graduating and moving on to college, when this album came out. I bought it the day it was released in the US. This song didn’t mean as much to me then, because my life was really just beginning. Now almost 50 years later, it moves me to tears as I reflect on the memories and regrets I’ve accumulated. The end seems much closer now, and I give more thought to how I spend the time I have left. That Roger Waters recognized this truth and was able to articulate it so meaningfully in his late 20s is a testament to the brilliance and the seriousness of this band. There is no other like them.
Very well put. My parents (who are about your age based on the math) put me onto Pink Floyd, among other greats from their generation. Sometimes it really feels like I was in high school or college just a couple years ago. But I wasn't. I'm 30. I'm working day in and day out, losing track of time, stressing about MONEY (😉) wondering when and how I'll ever break away from this rat race and live the fulfilling life I truly want to live. My natural life may still have decades left to go, but this song is becoming a lot more meaningful as the years go by. I'm discovering with age that I don't have as much time as I may perceive.

Growing up, I was familiar with this music from a time before I can even remember, but I do remember a time around 8 years old or so that I listened to this song with my father. Remembering his face in his 30's and how I perceived the world at that time is insane. Almost 20 years later, this song absolutely hits different....

I'm only 30 but I guess it kind of hit me this year. Its a bitter pill to swallow. I'm probably close to half way through my life and I don't feel that I have accomplished anything yet! It really is a scary feeling that time is slipping away

@@mikemcgown6362 Thanks Mike 😅 haha. Unfortunately for me my life has only really just begun so let's hope that isn't true for me. I wasted my 20s with addiction issues and avoidance behaviors (undiagnosed with ADHD until 28). Gave myself a huge kick up the ass lately and now life is only starting to really click into place now.
Yes I missed the starting gun but my current momentum in life is definitely in a positive/self-improving one now and things are definitely still moving towards my physical and mental peak in life. But it's not like I was a healthy man in my 20s. Everyone around me thinks I look younger now than I did 5 or even 10 years ago which can be hard to take in. It just goes to show that time can be an even more tricky thing to understand than we can comprehend. It can be taken from you behind your back without you ever knowing. It might even be given back to you in the future if you move yourself off of certain paths of unhealthy behaviors etc..
'Your future' is exchanged, flows, and is changed all the time depending on the moves you make in the three dimensions you have some control over. Nothing is set in stone.
The only thing that is certain about life is death. Nothing else. Everything that has a beginning has an end. Coming to accept this is half the battle of living a full life. I suppose Siddhartha Gautama Buddha must have been a very enlightened person to have come out with such things so long ago.
It seems that we cannot really understand time fully as our consciousness is perceived in a way which we move involuntarily through one unseen dimension (time) as we move voluntarily through three other dimensions (space). Our consciousness functions in a way that enables us to feel in control of things because we do not perceive the forth dimension consciously or subconsciously. We only have awareness of knowingly moving and existing in three dimensions while the forth one is seemingly flowing constantly away without any chance of control or grasping at it.
We can only observe time indirectly by seeing it's side effects on the first three dimensions. Your watch ticks because of the frequency that quartz vibrates at when an electric force flows through it. It is not a porthole into the next dimension. Time appears to flow away from us evenly but when we closely observe it we know that time bends and fluctuates depending on the amount of matter in that area of 'space' and nature of the matter. So just as the 2D world can have an impact on the 3D world, the consciousness within the next dimensions of reality (4D and onwards) might be able to perceive us in our 3D realm or we might even be able to push contact out with our dimensions. The clues to the true nature of reality and time travel must be in there somewhere 😉 haha. Trippy thinking for the day over with 😂.

When you see Pink Floyd in concert, the music and sounds are in quadraphonic surround sound in the stadium..being it outside or inside! It's like listening with top notch headphones but live in concert!! BEWARE FOR THOSE WHO THINK OF GETTING STONED!! LOL
This entire album is meant to be listened to in one setting from beginning to end.

An interesting aspect to this song is the progression of life it covers. The first verse is childhood, wasting the hours, the middle is adult life, chasing the sun, and then the final verse is old age, warming your bones by the fire at home and then, finally, your funeral at the church. Also, during the opening, the power chord rings out twelve times, the clock, tolling away.

I always felt this way like I was left behind trying to figure life out, always scrambling to catch up, as if my friends and peers knew the answer. 50+ years later and I still feel that way at times.

I’m 21. Those lines everytime I hear them fill me with a desperation to not waste my life and to get up off my ass an pursue my dreams.
This song is the reason I went back to college after covid and am now pursuing a PhD in Entomology instead of wasting my life in a factory job or trying to get a computer science degree just for money. What use is money if you hate the job you spend all your day working to get it.
I don’t need large amounts of money. I just need enough to survive and a job doing something I love.

I’ve been listening to this song for 50 years and it still strikes me as brilliant every single time. Pink Floyd is music that you have to really listen to. There’s no band quite like them. The long instrumentals are designed to give you time to really ponder those deep, deep lyrics. Beautiful. Timeless. This music truly is art.
This song makes everyone feel the way you do. And it doesn’t go away, you feel this way every time you hear it. And you feel exactly the same about it when you are 14 as when you’re 64. And although you can fully wrap your head around the message from the first time you hear it, you’ll never wrap your head around the feeling.
The darkside of the moon is a part of my soul. This album should be experienced in its entirety. It's a singular peice of music, all about the human experience. I love a lot of albums, but none of them reside in the highest place of my mind where this one does.

As someone that grew up in England during the Pink Floyd era it's fantastic to see someone experience the feeling of PF for the first time at a younger age. This music is timeless and I hope that many generations to come have such a delightful experience as this dude.
Damn dude, out of all of the reaction videos I've ever seen, this has gotta be one of my favorites. I showed a friend of mine this song back when we were freshly in college and he had pretty much the same reaction. We spent a long time talking about the fleeting nature of time and about regrets and hopes. I feel like the conversation would take on a totally different cast now that we've been finished with school for a few years and started making a lot more big life decisions, working our careers, and trying to juggle all of it while trying to find the time to slow down and appreciate it.
Have you ever wondered how these guys wrote a song like this? In their 20's? This song should be written by old people as an advise for the younger! But they were young back then and they wrote a song that can make old people hit their heads on the wall for having their whole life wasted. It's a complete paradox!

Something I love about this song is in the beginning when he is young, he talks about being bored in his hometown and restless to leave. Then towards the end of the song he is older and likes to be in his hometown, it brings comfort.

I was a teenager when the album came out...it will always be one of the most awesome things you could ever hear...yeah, it brings me back in time as well, and it does speak to many people...they were master of electronics, and had the guitars talking to you, like an opera....and you're spot on about the guitar riff trying to make you feel better after he told you losing 10 years and more...

This was created in 1971….. i was ten years old. Im now 61, and this song is still on the top ten. Think about that…..i first heard this in 1972, its an epic musical masterpiece written for anyone with a life, and an ear.

Was coding Basic from a book on my Apple II. Then Pascal in HS. Then college; assembly, Fortran, Pascal. Graduted and learned C then Java. Forever learning, always making mistakes and always improving.

Back in O.C. Calif when I was 30 my wife heard a commercial on the radio about a P.F. show coming up. Knowing I am a Floyd fan she called the radio station (KMET - LA, “The Mighty Met”) to get information on the concert, The DJ on live radio Cynthia Fox…. said...."Congratulations, YOU are caller number 10, YOU just won tickets to the show and the Sound Check Party before the show"...
I met David Gilmour back stage. He gave us both a signed album that I have in my music room. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I told him his music will stand the test of time with anything from Beethoven or Mozart. He smiled even bigger. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know. . I told him in my eyes he’s a “Legend“. He thanked me and said “Enjoy the show”…. during the concert after the song “Money” he looked right at me and said…. “On saxophone, another Legend, Mr. Raphael Ravenscroft” … acknowledging my comment to him. It is my favorite moment in over 300 shows I’ve seen.
I asked David…. How do you create those awesome solos?… he said….. I sit on a stool and listen to what Roger, Nick and Rick put down and play along. I listen to what I played and pick out what I like, then I put the pieces together into one piece then learn to play it as one. Our fans are fanatics for our shows to sound like the albums so I must play it correctly each time in a show. I have the concert Brochure and album on the wall with David’s picture centerfold.
All of us fortunate enough to have seen this show live were in a TRANCE.... MESMERIZED the entire show... as you can imagine. We walked out saying.... What did we just witness? That was out of this world incredible. The Red Fender Stratocaster he used for this concert in the Guitar Collector World is ....PRICELESS
You have it spot on. I cannot believe how fast the days are passing and what did I do? Not much it feels like. I am 61 in December; sometimes it is too late to restart. Floyd makes you think deeply, though I heard the album when I was babysitting, aged 14. Kids asleep, I put on the headphones and it blew my 14 year old brain out. My doors of perception were starting to loosen...

Love the way you really listen not only to the music, but the lyrics. This is an incredibly powerful song. Try to listen to the album in its entirety all at once. That's how Pink Floyd is meant to be experienced.
Thank you for characterizing the guitar solo as "healing," as a balmy remedy after being ripped open by the lyrics. What a great insight. You may not know this, but Pink Floyd is an extremely divided band (along with its fan base) with Roger Waters (songwriter, bass player and co-singer), on one side, and the three other members on the other, including the incredible David Gilmour on lead guitar and vocals. Waters is very dark, caustic, and alienating, and the rest of the band members are optimistic and have refused to work with Waters because he does not appreciate their contributions. The other three went on as Pink Floyd and did well without Waters. Some people do not like PF because the subject matter is always dark (Waters), but stay because the guitar solos (Gilmour) are famous for being musically elegant and emotional (and as you brilliantly describe: "healing"). Some love the lyrics and can relate. It is those who appreciate both that really love PF. I guess we appreciate the value of the experience of getting ripped open and healed in the same song. There is something special about the way you think...it is a gift from God.
What's amazing is how relatable this song is to just about any person. The first time I heard PINK FLOYD was this song on a mix cd a friend burned for me in high school. I was so fascinated that I told all my friends and had them listen. Another friend bought me the Dark Side of the Moon album for my 16th birthday. Their music truly changed me in some wholesome and eccentric ways. Their music also inspired me musically as there is a soothing component, especially to this song. I did enjoy your reaction!

Your analysis and the fact that you are a developer really hit home for me. My best friend growing up turned on to Pink Floyd when Dark Side came out. This message behind this song immediately grabbed me.
Now, fifty years later, my best friend passed just before his 60th. I have now turned 60 and my wife and have decided to retire early and live what time we have left.
There aren't a lot of albums out there you can call life changing. Dark Side of the Moon is one of them. The production the music the writing, it could have been recorded yesterday rather than 50 years ago. It is why generation after generation continues to discover it, and are moved by it. Check out "Us and Them" from this album. Another classic.
Usually people don't get hit with copyright for Pink Floyd songs, so I'd be surprised if you did. Most people let songs of theirs play right through with no problem.
I have watched 6-8 reactions to this song so far. You my friend have one of the best reactions I have seen to this one. You get it. I am 57 and I feel this song every day. I was paralyzed in a car accident at the age of 17 and was told to not expect to live any older than 40. Here I am 57 in pretty good health still but I feel it creeping up on me. Thanks for listening to some good music and giving us your thoughts on it.

The planetarium in the city where I grew up had laser light shows starting at midnight, and Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon was one of the best. There's nothing quite like feeling this music in every cell of your body from the massive speaker system while insane patterns fill the air.

I just stumbled onto your channel, so this is my first reaction of yours. I'm in tears right now. Just lost my dad to cancer, and Pink Floyd was his #1 favorite band, ever since the 70's. This song in particular resonates with me more so now that I'm in my late 30's. It seems like when you're younger, time lasts much longer than when you start to become this age.

I've seen these guys in concert four times in three different decades and I've seen everybody from AC/DC to Led Zeppelin and everyone in between alphabetically including Paul McCartney Michael Jackson Genesis The Who Metallica and I could go on and on and I've never seen a group like Pink Floyd who could put 60,000 people in a trance!! If you watch anything from the 1994 Pulse concert you'll notice there's thousands of people sitting there absolutely still! That's what they do to you beside their music and lyrics being brilliant both! Enjoy watching you discover them like I did! Their music's even Beyond out of left field I don't think they're of this Earth! Keep up the good work and you'll hit 100K pretty soon!!

David Gilmour in action. They did DSOTM plus Comfortably Numb. They are older but you'll never see better versions of these songs. Truly masters of their art!
You get it, sir. There's an astonishing amount of genius in Pink Floyd's music. If you want to really have your mind blown, Listen to PF's live performance of Comfortably Numb. Comfortably Numb is one of the most extraordinary pieces of music ever composed. I always felt that towards the end, it became the funeral march of a lost and tormented soul. All of the anguish and regret of something glimpsed and lost is distilled and channeled into one extended searing cry. This never gets old. Ever. It speaks to something that we all know and cannot be expressed in any other way. Music - real music is a language all its own. Extraordinary musicians like David Gilmour can communicate their inner experiences as few can today. Gilmour’s guitar appears to be connected directly to his soul. Some musicians can manage that for a few moments. For Gilmour, it’s his natural state of being. It is unmistakable and cannot be faked.

The ebb and flow of lyrics and moments of instrumental to let it sink in is the way of this whole album. The moment of silence you wanted after it ended is the next track on the album. Great gig in the sky is there to just sit in your feelings.

When a young adult man in the industry feels the exact same way as this 67 year old artist/mother/grandmother about this song, we can truly understand the unbelievable talent and magic that is still so alive today...I heard it first when I was in high school in the early 70's. It still leaves me speechless.

"Time" is a masterpiece into the masterpiece ("The Dark Side of the Moon" album). Just like the album itself, the song basically follow a person life: from the youth, when you have plenty of time to waste, to the maturity and the aging, when you take consciousness that your life is not unlimited, to the old age and the death. The bell, the faithful on their knees and the magic spells are indeed references to a religious service, arguably the funeral, and death is, not coincidentally, the theme of the subsequent song in the album, "The Great Gig in the Sky".
Probably the scariest song I have ever heard. The reality of inevitability. "Do you hear that Mr. Anderson. That is the sound of inevitability." Having lived for over a half of century, I feel this song. But I choose to not be paralyzed by the feeling of regret. The scars, the grey, the loss of hearing, the constant aches, have all been well earned. The scars are there to remind us the past was real. PR

I was given this album for my 21st birthday when it was first released and it sounds just as good now as it did then, I still have that original vinyl copy. Almost 50 years later and the words are more relevant than ever. The best way to appreciate it is to find some time to sit and listen to the whole thing without a pause. Thanks for a great reaction.

This album was meant to be listened to strait through, all at once. It really is the story of life. Please react to the whole album. The track "the great gig in the sky" will give you more of the feels than this one. Understand that this album stayed in the top 100 album sales for 14 years strait, I believe. 14 YEARS. That is an inhuman feat.
I believe top 200 for over 20 years or some insane amount = masterpiece!
People get hooked on Pink Floyd because of the music and light shows in the concerts. Once you go and start LISTENING TO THE LYRICS, you go to a MUCH DEEPER level. They are a FANTASTIC band. So much MORE than the average person hears with them. You did a very good job here.
I can't remember the first time I heard this song because my Dad raised me on Pink Floyd and played their music everyday since before I was born. Keep going down this rabbit hole man, there's much more to come. Pink Floyd is a springboard to changing your life.

My dad started playing Pink Floyd to me since I was in my mother's womb and so I've always had an attachment to them. This song in particular became a favorite of mine in my teens and it's haunted me ever since. It was a warning to get my life in order but after my dad died in my early twenties I allowed myself and my life to slip into disarray. I'm 35 now and going back to school and trying to pursue interests I denied myself when I was younger. It takes conscious effort to not fall into the pitfalls of resentment and regret, but if I don't do something now another ten, twenty, or thirty years will have got behind me and I'll be an old woman wondering what happened to my youth and my life. I grieve for the opportunities I denied myself when I was younger but I wont let that shackle my pursuit of a fulfilling life. This song slays the idleness that cripples my day to day and transports me back in time to visit my childhood with my dad.

Since it’s mostly accepted now, in 1973, I was 30 years old when I first heard this album. My best friend played it while we shared a bong of grass…she had these bean bag chairs and we each just lay back on them, closed our eyes and, literally, let the music wash over us.?.yeah, I know…that was then. As for you…you’re on the path to success because, YOU LISTEN! You take the messages from those great songs, absorb them and apply them to your own life. Brilliant reaction. Hugs!

I started appreciating what they were saying in my late teens/early 20's. A lot of their music is relatable and carries lessons and coping mechanisms along with their brilliant musicianship. Back when this album came out i was in the Marines. Some friends and i took some blotter acid and listened to this album. IT totally melted our brains, the music and the words made so much scene. Even now when i hear it my mind goes back to my younger days and wonder what happen to all that time. I have no regrets, the music of my youth is still so relevant today as it was then.

I don’t know how many times I’ve heard this song in my life but I’ve heard it many times and I’ve even seen Pink Floyd in concert but the first time I actually paid attention to the lyrics was just a couple of months ago and it hit me so hard that I cried.
Was just talking about that today (differnt song). But how you can sing along to a song for years, kind of knowing the words but never really listening to it. Check out Disturbed's cover of Sound of Slience from Simon and Garfunkel. It is like you never knew the words at all. Stunning.
I first started listening to Pink Floyd back in 1975 when I was a teenager. And to this day I still pull out Dark Side of the Moon, Animals, Wish you were here and, of course, The Wall. Maybe it's a developer thing but it really appeals to me. Also of note The Alan Parsons Project, "Tales of Mystery and Imagination" and "I Robot" are great. I believe Alan Parsons was one of the engineers on Dark Side of the Moon. Enjoy!
I first listened to this song when the album was released to the public. I have owned Dark Side of the Moon in various formats. The album, 8-track tape, cassette tape, CD and the re-released album. It's been a lifetime of DSOTM. I feel blessed from the first time until today. 🙏🏻

I first heard this song when I first heard Dark Side, Christmas 78. We listened to it in the “typical way”, lights off, headphones etc! This song was the most impactful out of an incredibly impactful album. The sun is the same… Half a page of scribbled lines…. This album and song did change my life. I’m 59 now and I think I’ve lived a full and adventure filled life…. due in part to this song. It’s SO cool,to see the same impact to new audiences as it hit me over 40 yrs ago!

The next song on the album “The Great Gig in the Sky “ is meant to follow this one. “Time” is about life from a child to an old man regretting so much in his life and then he passes, to the great gig in the sky!!!! DEEP!!!!
