I saw them perform in 1967 at Stephen F Austin University. Bad storms that night and the electricity went out. They performed Cherish by candle light, accapella, and without a doubt it is the best that I have ever listened to this song. They were a special group.
I graduated there 2019!! Wow i wish i saw that
WOW! What an experience. I wish I was there.
RIP Terry Kirkman, writer of this forever great song...😪
I was about 8 years when this song came, but even at that age it impressed me emotionally.
I grew up as rock and roll was begining...the words are timeless and the music is classic....NO GROUP today can come close to this era
I was born in 1968 and this music resonates with me, timeless band
What makes the Assoiation so unique is that that had 6 band members doing the voacals for harmonizing. The usual rock group of the era used a lead and backup for harmonizing but the Association could provide multiple layers of vocals for a deep and rich sound. My favorite memory song of the 60's.
This song hit me like a ton of bricks when it came out. The harmonies made me start studying music theory and composition. Brilliant! Genius songwriting!!!
I'm 66.
Depending on the circumstances, I still cry when hearing this song.
Thank you for this.
The Association was the bomb.
The unfortunate thing about those of us who grew up with this music is we took it for granted.
Yep, As there was such great music at the time and this was just another hit song.
So true! I think it's because we thought that good music like this would continue to be made. Boy were we wrong! But at least we have venues like You Tube, Pandora, CD's, cassette tapes, and LP's (remember those?) to enjoy this beautiful music.
I never took any song for granted. I love all different types of music.
@@bobblowhard8823 100% spot on Mr. Garvin.
@@davidpanetta6400 I didn't either, David. Took love seriously at the age of 12. June Go figure. Had great parents....
Melody, harmony and soul. We need it back.
It will never happen! Modern music is dead.
@@tonya6107You are right, thank goodness we have the classics like this one to enjoy forever.
@@chrisoakley5830 Right on, Chris, we can always go back, brother.
This song describes exactly how it feels when you love and pine for someone but they don't reciprocate those feelings.
@@michaelasay8587 What the hell are you talking about?! This song is about unrequited love. It has NOTHING to do with politics or the like.
Do you actually read comments or skim and make up your own what you THOUGHT you read? That is obviously what you did because what I said was only about love.
@@michaelasay8587 both parties are at fault today, they have driven the people against each other. Wish we had our good music back to unite us again…wonderful love songs! 🥰👍🎶🎵
-#cheers-- !-
One of the greatest vocal groups in music history.
"Along Comes Mary" is another great tune.
The diversity of the music I grew up with still amazes me! It's nice that good people like Shawn and Mel get to appreciate it.
And we just took it for granted. A great time to grow up!
The most perfect love song. Period.
Chills...just chills everytime I hear it at 73 years of age...I was a senior in high school coming home at 2 a.m. from my busboy job at a restaurant...put on this song to rock me to sleep and dreaming about the girlfriend that I didn't have...and maybe someday would...when i could dedicate this song to her every moment of our lives....
The Association deserve so much more than they've received over the years. Their songs are timeless classics and touch any that are willing to take the time to listen. That they have been so ignored is a shame but I'm so happy and glad that you two hear an ear to hear.
I lucked out. 7 years old in 1960 with older sisters. Know every word to most 60s music. Love The Young Rascals,Turtles and The Association.
What incredible harmonies.
They ate in my top 10 underated bands ever.
Why aren't they in the rock and roll hall of fame?
Thank you so very much for listening to this beautiful song!! This was my parents' wedding song and they are still married. Mel and Shawn, you are awesome!!
The 60s had so much to offer.Serious music,Fun music, and songs like this that soothes the soul, and just makes you feel good.
They have a faster song Along Comes Mary. Make sure to have the lyrics up because they sing fast in the song.
I’m so glad I grew up when all this was happening. I was 15 in 1966 when this came out.
One of the most beautiful tunes you will ever hear in your life.
you are so right. this was the best music ever. i grew up in the 50s, 60s and 70s...the music was all so wonderful. hard to tell people today how good it was. i am glad that you are taking time to listen to some of it
I agree with you. I love all music, but the songs from the 50s, 60s and 70s were the best. Back then you had all types of music. I mean, the Beatles were on top until Dean Martin took the number 1 spot. There was folk music, country, beach music, rock, easy listening....you know what I'm talking about.
You two are the most emotional connection! I think it’s beautiful!
They recorded this in 1966 & it was #1 on the US Billboard Hot one hundred for September of that year. I saw then in 1969 at age 16 & I was in love with these guys & the Beatles. LOL
Y’all really should do their song called “Never my love” next. 🙂💖💙
💕🎶
Plus Windy and along comes Mary.
FOR SURE
This is just one example of why the 60's was such great decade for music!😊
Classic timeless music still popular nearly 60 years later!
This is not their biggest hit but it is certainly their signature hit.
One of music’s single greatest songs. Period
Finally got around to reacting to their greatest hit from (1966) 'Cherish.' You are right! They don't make songs like this anymore. My goodness I was a 12-year-old boy back then. Now I am 69-year-old senior citizens still "Cherishing" my lovely wife of 45 years and counting. Great response to one of the greatest and loved groups from the 60's.
Though I might be bias in my opinion here. I considered the 60's as the greatest decade of every music genre in Rock & Roll history. Priceless!
You are so right about the music from the 60s. You heard songs from every genre back then. You would be listening to songs like Rock Around The Clock, Moon River, Surfing USA, He's So Fine, Sealed With A Kiss, House Of The Rising Sun, California Dreaming, Volare, King Of The Road, Cherish, I'm A Believer.....You get the idea.
@@davidpanetta6400 Yes! I sure do. We had it all back then. Even though we listened to them with a handheld AM Transistor radio. Thanks for your reply, Dave.
You would never hear lyrics like this today. Unfortunately.
This old school music is so beautiful!!
It’s sad to me that beautiful music like this is not produced anymore. The values back then were so much different than today. I miss these days!
It is listen to the indie band Keane & "Somewhere Only We Know" by Keane's lead vocalist Tom Chaplin & all their songs
I consider the music of the 60's as the greatest music in Rock & Roll history. Period!
Powerful song. It leaves you missing that era where music was unique and meaningful.
It’s so beautiful to see the two of you appreciate these classic love songs
Fantastic reaction to an amazing song by a remarkable group. They do not make musoc like this anymore.
Thank you both. I needed this
This got covered by so many groups right through the 70's.
This is a great childhood memory, I love this song.
I grew up, listening to this song. Absolutely loving this song. It’s so fun witnessing people discover this for the first time. Loving it!
It's weird to me that I was listening to this when I was 6 yrs old.😂❤ It's such a beautiful song.❤❤
How this was not the #1 song of 1966 I will never understand. Beautiful song!
The Beatles were top charts there was so much in the 60s. Every band about perfect
As beautiful as this song is, it wasn't all that special in 1966. That's how great pop music was back then. You might really love this song, but a month later you'd hear a few more songs just as good that would put this one in the back of your mind. The 60s, 70s and 80s were all like that. Those three decades were music's best.
Bless you both for honoring and understanding my favorite teenage group. Saw them in concert in l967 at the LA Forum. A lifetime of the Association and they are still touring!
They were my first concert back in 1968, and I will never forget it. Remember, no computers- they sounded exactly the same live.
Joel - I also saw them live in 1972, and can confirm your comment that they could match the harmonies of their recordings whenever they wanted to do so - with no electronic assistance of any kind - only their raw talent! Thank you for your review, S & M! Very much appreciated!
Mine too. Red Rocks outside of Denver.
My first concert too! I was 7 and my older brother and sister took me to see them in Columbia, MD.
Music can teleport you to another time, another location, another mood, that's the joy of it!
One of my favorite songs of all time. I’m so happy you guys get it.
I'm soooo happy that you guys really liked The Association! Their harmonies were top notch and their songs were on the radio all the time! Their sound was so distinctive that you always knew that it was them. 😮😂😅❤ Just loved your reactions! Keep up the good work and more Association! ❤
The Association had another beautiful love song hit called "Never My Love".
I first heard this song in the sixties it never gets old.
I always loved this beautiful song.
It was such a beautiful wonderful time back then. Boys became men early and they treated women like ladies and goddesses. 100% manners. Sweetness. Love.
Thank you! Now, you might be ready for a very heavy song by the Association called "Requiem For The Masses". 'Cause remember, it was not all sweetness and light in the 1960s. But "Cherish" now! Wow!
Requiem For The Masses was on the (B) side of Never My Love. It is one that is quite somber in tone and should be listened from the Smothers Brothers TV show.
@@timothyteater1347 right. I did see the band perform at the height of its career, as it were. "Requiem" was amazing live. The Smothers Brothers show performance is indeed a great one!
Beautiful song ,I always love this one.
One of my favorites, Always loved the Association.
They played at my high school in my sophomore and junior years. Just beautiful.
This group was quite popular in the 60's. A softer approach to pop/soft rock. Some very good romantic songs from them - "Never my Love" is great. Good vocals and harmonies. Back in the day us gals loved their music and romantic lyrics.
I grew up with this music, and even though I did love the song back then, watching both of you gives this song a new appreciation for me. Thanks
The love songs of the 60's and 70's are so powerful.❤❤❤
Everything That Touches You is another gem by the Association!
They were an amazing group, beautiful smooth songs !!!!
Shawn and Mel, I love your enthusiasm and appreciation for the classic song Cherish by the timeless musical group The Association. Thank you for your splendid reaction videos!
I was born in November of 1966. This is one of my favorite songs 😊
Haven't even started to watch, but I KNOW you two are going to love it! Haven't heard it in years, it's a great song. So beautiful
My favorite song by The Association.
Favorite slow dance song at parties, was on the radio a lot
I was having a bad day as as I heard the music start to play a smile appeared. Great song!
When we were young we had heart. We were going to save the world. Unfortunately, by the 1980s we sold out. I am so proud of you young folks today. You are bringing back the heart. I'm just so sorry we left you with such a mess.
We didn't make the mess. TPTB backlashed against us for trying to save the world and why we're at where we are now.
I was fortunate to have grown up with so many various kinds of music. Made me quite the romantic! So very happy to see you enjoy their beautiful harmonies and arrangements!
😽💋🎶
I was in first grade when this came out -- and I always loved the softness and soaring harmonies and the sweet little "bum-bum" of this song. Takes me right back to dad's '66 Impala.
I love the "bum...bums". I also love the cars people had back then. When I turned 16 in 1975, I got my Mom's 1969 Orange Cutlass. For Christmas in '75, my older brother gave me an AM/FM radio with 8-track player. Those were the days !
Sincerely thank you for keeping this great music from a great group alive again. Baffled how the Association has become a forgotten group. Along Comes Mary is awesome also!!!!
So is Wendy.
Kind of like the Turtles have become a forgotten group. In the 90's they were still on the Oldies radio station. Beyond that time, almost no one played them anymore
This is my favorite song from them, its soft and romantic. As always I enjoy your reaction 🎶👍🏾
Thank you both for feeling the beauty of older music. Almost made me cry watching you enjoy it. Most younger people are so indoctrinated into rap that they won't listen to beautiful instrumental, harmonizing, music with lyrics about Love, Peace, and emotions..❤️
Thank you so much for putting a smile on my tired face!! My favorite reactors and one of my favorite songs!!! Love always!!
Their music was so beautiful! I still have their vinyl record albums in my collection. ❤❤❤
You guys are the best!!!!! I love watching your reaction and the same excitement, so many of us felt and still feel growing up with this great song! Thank you!
I still love them. Saw them in concert at 18.They were wonderful.
I have to keep reminding myself that your generation of musicians didn't and aren't giving y'all a lot of intimate connection and romance in your music today. So enjoy the oldies. ❤
Far too much hate and anger in music the last 35+ years.
one of the most beautiful songs ever. ❤
If you listen to the song its about a man who is in love with a woman who unfortunately doesn't love him back. Beautiful and sad at the same time.
I was 15 years old when this came out, girls were so intimidating with their beauty and I was so painfully shy. 😊
Great music made with absolutely no Auto-Tune. I can't count how many times this was played at proms, weddings and other parties.
I love this sung by david cassidy ❤
Clean cut boys in suits killin it!
Hi Shawn and Mel! It is so nice to see you both today, I have missed you while I was away, and it is nice to be back and I am loving all your new reactions! W hat a wonderful reaction. This song gives me chills, it is so wonderful hearing your comments and knowing that others really get the emotion that the artists were trying to convey in their songs. I saw the Association perform many different times in person! They were phenomenal. I was so fortunate that I lived in LA back in the 70's and early 80's and got to see many of the famous performers of that time live. The Association often came to play at a play called the John Wayne Theater in an amusement park called Knott's Berry Farm. I tried never to miss their shows when they came. The harmonies are so crystal. You are so right though, these songs do speak of a love that we all feel and want deep down, but that the last couple of generations somehow forgot or were never taught to know how to express and believe in. Being able to put the tenderest of feelings into poetry or music is one of man's highest art forms.
@@michaelasay8587 Hi Michael, I have been taking a little break from UA-cam the last few weeks as we have had a lot of illness in the family. Caregiving has been taking all of my energy. But things are better now, and I am looking forward to getting back into viewing the reactions and commenting on therm. I get so much enjoyment from listening to Shawn and Mel, I feel like I have a lot to catch up on. Have a nice evening!
My favorite song of all time. I have been waiting for reactors to discover The Association
They are still playing and sound great...all 6 of them wow look them up
GREATEST SONG OF ALL TIME ❤🎵
Just sent your reaction to my husband. Whom I truly cherish. Took me 49 years to find him. Am so blessed. I couldn’t just send the song. Had to send your reaction because it’s even better than just the song ❤
Beautiful. Like a marriage should be. You guys are so sweet together, you all are amazing, so glad I stumbled on your reactions, better than some out there, waiting for the next tunes ❤️
You guys have REALLY been landing on a bunch of great songs lately. Keep playing the good ones. There's nothing like having lived during the time that these songs were on the charts but realizing NOW just how great they are is almost as good. I wish I could give you a list of fantastic songs from the 60s but I understand how this reaction thing works; I'll just wait and see what you will bring. There are so many one/two hit wonders that are as good as your Rascals and Association songs and I despair that they will never be played on a platform like this.
There is another song called Cherish by Kool and The Gang which is very nice too.
The next song you should listen to is " Everything That Touches You". This song is also very powerful!
Thanks for playing this beautiful song from my youth...
I loved this song for many years, but their "Never My Love" was always my favorite by them. Give that a listen.
While listening to this song again, probably for the thousandth time, I realize that this is one of the best songs on unrequited love. It is beautiful and heartbreaking. So happy you two have opened yourselves to the music we boomers love so much.
I was in high school when this came out in 1967 I believe. Takes me back! I really love you two.
The lyrics, the satin vocal harmonies, the production. Back in a time when love and tenderness meant so much. There has never been a song recorded that tops this.
I feel so blessed to have grown up on this music! So simple yet so powerful! Did not need auto tune or big productions or half naked people to convey the heart of a song! Majority of music today has no soul or respect IMO! Loving your reactions and channel❤❤❤ Love from an old lady from Texas🤠
Many many many many many many memories awesome keep the good job going
