I have an acre yard and only use a spreader to spread fertilizer, last summer I bought one of those Chapin 8620B tow behind 150lb spreaders, with the auto shut off. It works well, but I want to go ahead and purchase a nice push spreader too. I was about to purchase the Agri Fab 130lb spreader model 45-0462, and ran across your video, that you might like the Chapin 8400 C better? Which one do you recommend for spreading fertilizer over an acre yard? I actually like using my little hand held spreader too, have used it to spread 100lbs of fertilizer, going both ways over an acre.
HandyGuy 2016 I see that Chapin spreader is over $300, don’t you think for that price, there may be a better option, Like Doc recommends one of the Andersons professional spreaders, they may be more than $300 though. I got my Chapin tow behind with the auto shut off for $200, but I think I may like the push type of spreader better. I’m like you, buying some and trying them out. I may sell my uncle my tow behind for $150, and get me a push
Handyguy, I like the Earthway although leaning toward Agri-Fab as the spreader settings appear to be compliant for Scots brand fertilizer. Do you know what the setting for Earthway would be for Scotts brand without requiring complex mathematic computing?
But once you hit a certain size property, you should be using a pull behind spreader any ways. 99% of the time the pull behinds will have a higher poundage rating than a push spreader.
I think cutting the bottom out of regular car wash bucket and inserting it inside the Earthway unit would allow it to hold more. (Or insert a taller cardboard box)
I just got an agri fab but I use rocksalt but when using it I hear a grinding noise coming from the drive wheel that spins the spreader... any reasons on what the grinding might be NEED HELP
build a new silo that fits on the red one and lets you cut off the silo weight so it works as designed. way better engineering built with knowledge of the task at hand.
Not a fan on the Agrifab line of products. Had a couple now and won't be buying any others. I enjoy my Gandy spreaders. Expensive but reliable and lasting me a very long time.
@@HandyGuy2016 I am not at all surprised you didn't like it after a while. My experience has been they feel fine at first but then something about the way they're constructed creates a feeling like it is going to falling apart. I checked all the bolts and connection points and they were tight but it felt like it was coming apart.
I appreciate the explanation. I recently purchased an EarthWay other than the complicity, I like it.
I used the AgriFab to overseed 14 lawns. No complaints, and no issues. It will hold 50# of Turf type tall fescue seed.
I had the Earthway 80# but I wore out the gears in it pretty quick. I picked up Shinidiwa RS76 love that guy. I have never tried Agrifab. Great vid.

The Chapin is a better unit, I ended up selling the agrifab.

@@matthewmccord4858 The best I have used so far are earthway and Chapin, either one works great.

I'm not sure, but I can tell you that I no longer have the agrifab and the earth way is still going strong.
But once you hit a certain size property, you should be using a pull behind spreader any ways. 99% of the time the pull behinds will have a higher poundage rating than a push spreader.
Would you recommend the Earthway spreader for a yard that is less than 1/4 acre?
Definitely
I think cutting the bottom out of regular car wash bucket and inserting it inside the Earthway unit would allow it to hold more. (Or insert a taller cardboard box)
Probably would work as an extension.
how wide are both spreaders?
Wheel base 24" and 26"
Vary good information thank's
Thank you
Just an update, I replaced the Agri Fab with a larger stainless Chapin and a Stainless Spyker
How's your agrifab holding up 1.5 yrs later?
I sold it and bought a Chapin Commercial Spreader. I wasn't very happy with the Agri Fab.
@@HandyGuy2016 Any particulars -- I was about to buy one and would value your comments
@@Hawkins1 just noisy gears and not very sturdy.
@@HandyGuy2016 How's the Chapin spreader? I'm debating between the AF or the Chapin. Thoughts?
@@Captioned86 Chapin is much better quality.

Not sure, mine has been good so far.
@@HandyGuy2016 it's kinda aggrovating
@@jasonpowell5662 I wonder if the gear spacing can be adjusted?
It only grinds when there's salt in it
@@jasonpowell5662 Maybe it is just the salt going through the spreader? I have not used it for salt, so I don't know?

Is the Earthway the same as the Brinly and Titan?
I don't know if it is, sorry.
@@HandyGuy2016 Thank you, they look identical.

Neither are professional spreaders.
