  • This is a simple review on the Agri-Fab Towable Spreader. I really like this unit and it is worth the moeny that I paid for it. Highly recommend this, there are a couple tweaks that would make it perfect but it does the job well!
Here is a link to the spreader!

I fertilize about 1 1/2 acres of grass, and struggle to find an exact setting for the Scott's turf builder. Usually, it's somewhere between 1 and 2, but it's so sensitive, I have to REALLY tighten the wing nut to keep it from moving. When you throw the handle, you have to be real careful that it doesn't nudge the adjustment slide, at all. I tow with a lawn tractor, and can't reach back to the shutoff arm, and wind up spreading fertilizer on the driveway because I keep my speed constant, to get an even application. I've thought about the linear actuator, but the expense and hassle of wiring it in is keeping me from doing that mod.

Add a linear actuator to open and close the slide, there is a couple of videos installing the actuator

If you drill a hole thru the top and add an eye bolt to run the rope thru you will get less resistance and make it more usable then going thru the pipe. The rope wont catch that way and will work smoother.

Makes sense! Need to get a little modification going!

With the hopper closed, I can reach the arm from my ZTR by backing up and turning so the spreader is at a 45 degree angle to the tractor (turn to the side closest to the handle). Or simply position it on a 45 manually before filling. I then open the hopper and go forward.

That’s a great tip! Thanks! I’ll try that and see what I can do. Almost time for summer lawn food!

I’m having the same problem with my zero turn . I was thinking about trying to add a longer bar.

Is it possible to move the flow adjustment lever to the other side of the tow bar? That way you could pull the rope forward to close the chute instead of having to push it backwards. When you release the rope, the spring in the flow control will open the chute back up by itself.

Any issues with it clogging up? I had the Agifab ATV spreader and it caked up all the time, even with the prescreen and breaking up clumps.

Have you ever spread salt or sand with this?

Would like to see what the stability is on a side hill. that is where the tow-able spreaders fail.. IMO

Yeah I would agree. I’ve had this on a decently steep small hill and it did fine. It was close for comfort but did well. In the future I’ll approach the area different

If you leave that thing open while you are sitting still stuff will come pouring out. I bought a similar model spreader by agri fab and was not impressed. Very hard to control the flow rate.

Could you tell me what fertilizers you use each time? And if you recommend a granular herbicide to kill the weeds? I just purchased a 150lb Chapin spreader and I really like it but I am going to do all my own lawn treatments now so I could use the advise! Thanks

Sam, I use Scott’s products year round.
Early Spring - Scott’s Haltz crabgrass preventer
Summer - Scott’s Summer lawn food
      Fall - Scott’s Winterguard

Will this work for spreading compost?

    • @TheDurbinCompound
      @TheDurbinCompound  5 років тому

My initial thought is no. I used this today to spread fertilizer and even on the highest setting it doesn’t open very far. I think the chute opening is about 2.5” wide and slide about 3/4” open.

to get years of use you must rince with water after you use any spreader. also spray with penetrating oil and white lithium oil on the gears. fertilizer is highly corrosive and will rust and drive train well freeze drive train.

If you add a pulley on your rope hack you'll get better leverage and not wear out the rope
