These EarthBoxes were fertilized only once (at planting) with the "Complete Organic Fertilizer" from Hoss Tools.

Greens are good for your health 😉
Juice them in a slow masticating juicer and you can get more of them and their nutrition in you than cooking them.

I wish them Earth Boxes were a little cheaper, by the time ya buy the box, soil and fertilizer the first time cost is expensive. Yours sure look good!
If you take into account the EBs last 15 years or more and are portable (in case you move), it makes the "per year" cost pretty low.
But yes, the initial cost can be prohibitive.
The potting mix can be used for several years too.
@@BIGALTX I bought EB's for $28 / box (free shipping) and Ferti-lome soil mix for $17/bag (3cu). Not too bad. I've done DIY soil mix (peat moss / vermiculite / compost) for SFG before and while less expensive, I like just buying premix. Total comes out to about $40 per filled box.

I think I pay $13 for a 3cf bag of potting mix. It's called BM7
How did you water, did you water via the reservoirs or some sort of drip system?
If using the reservoirs built into the EB's, how often did you need to add water?
Watered down the drip pipe.
No covers, so if it rains they get watered.
I water about every other day if it doesn't rain.
In the hot summer though, I watered every day once the tomatoes, peppers, etc. got big,
Did you put the fertilizer in a strip per the instructions? Just wondering since you aren't using the "shower cap" mulch cover to keep the fertilizer dry from overhead. I've used EB's for a decade and always have used the mulch cover.
I didn't on these, but I do use the cover on everything else... except blackberries.
Blackberries need to send shoots up so it can't have the cover on.
Most of these were from seeds that I just "sowed" in the EB not in a particular planting pattern.
I believe in earth boxes. I have 36. Amazing system. It’s an investment. They last fifteen years.

What do you like about these things so much? Just dry amend the soil and that's it? Have you ever put a nutrient solution in the reservoir?
Yes, I add water soluble fertilizer to the fill tube from time to time
Once you get one of these things, you'll be amazed at how things grow and how you never have to guess about watering. I also put a solution of liquid fertilizer in the fill tube about twice a month, and also add it above in those without a "shower cap".
@texasprepper2 I am a long time earthbox user that recently arrived in Tx so I have been enjoying your videos. I just recently learned about the greenstalk planter. If you had to use just one system, which one would you go with?
EarthBox over Greenstalk any day.
But, EB will only grow one crop and GS will grow several.
However, the GS is limited (i think) to small things like greens, strawberries, herbs, etc.
You can grow anything in an Earthbox!

what size are your earth boxes you have your blackberries in another viceo you made?(they are the rust color) They look alot bigger than what I am seeing on the earthbox website
These are the " *Original* " Earthboxes.
Not sure the exact measurements, but around 23" long and 14" wide.
They are NOT the Junior or the "root" EB.
Just ordered 3 earth boxes today! Can't wait! Beginner gardener here

What kind of soils do you use?
In an earth box or any other type of wicking container, you must use potting mix. It needs to be at least 50% PEAT. The PEAT is what allows it to wick up water. If you just put regular garden soil, or dirt in it, it’s not going to wick.
Any good potting mix will do. I use something called BM7, but any potting mix would work well. As long as it has large amount of PEAT.
How are your plants handling the heat this year? My backyard looks empty because the heat killed so many of my plants.
I just put up a video about using shade cloth. It seems to be helping. Check out the new video.
