The earth box is a good system. I have been using a dozen of them for a decade. They are durable. I get 3 years without total dump. Use dolomite lime and clean used fertilizer every year. Some years you get amazing results.
It looks great! And you’re right, they’re really heavy once they’re filled with water and wet soil! I have one of mine planted with peppers and I’m going to,plant the other one this weekend.
Great video, you seem to be very knowledgeable, you probably meant the middle number in a fertilizer mix if it is a balanced fertilizer is phosphorous not potassium or also known as potash. Phosphorous is used to create more flowers and larger fruit, potash is used for micronutrients but mainly for environmental stress as well as the overall health of the plant, potash is the most beneficial nutrient for plants and lawns. Magnesium and calcium come into play here, however, in most balanced fertilizers you will see them listed within the last number on nutrient labels. I was raised by parents who grew up on a farm, I also owned a pest control and lawn & ornamental service business for 39 years, certified master gardener as well. I just bought my first Earthbox and your video is much very helpful and much appreciated.
Thanks so much for watching, Mike Yes, if I said "potash" as the middle #... I misspoke and didn't catch it in editing I think you'll love your EarthBox!
I just got a earthbox in 3 days ago that i ordered on amazon, Got the blue one for a pop of color. Im putting it on my front walk and going to grow strawberries in it, I didnt use the bonnet because I planted a bunch of strawberries and it would be all holes. Real sturdy thing and interesting well system.
Soils work perfectly fine in earth boxes You absolutely don't need to worry about wicking with soil I recommend watching the build a soil videos they have one that discusses earth boxes in depth
Great job on the planters. Do you have any experience with corrugated metal raised beds? Would that be too hot for TX? Any comments will be appreciated. Keep up the good work God bless you
I've seen a lot of people using corrugated planters from many climates, so I don't think they would be too hot. One of the reasons corrugated metal is "shiney" is to reflect the heat and not retain it.
Love your videos! I bought kale and swiss chard plants at the big box store. Now, I find out it's not the right season for our hot arizona desert. Should I give to the chickens or waste water growing them. Suggestions appreciated. We do have a green house if that helps. We did get some wicking beds made.
Blissful Acres Off Grid Homestead BTW. I’m planting Swiss Chard TODAY. I don’t think chard is like most “greens”. I I think they will do OK even in your heat. It’s worth a shot
@@BIGALTX Insight please. My Napa cabbage has flowers on it. Does this mean they are going to seed or getting ready to grow a head? Can you tell we haven't a clue what we are doing? Self wicking beds are a dream though. Love them!
If it's a flowering plant (tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, squash, etc) I use 10-*20*-10 If it doesn't flower (corn, etc) I would use 13-13-13 I usually follow a month or so later with some 20-20-20 water soluble from Hoss Tools down the hole LEARN MORE ABOUT HOSS TOOLS HERE: bit.ly/homesteadadvisor
Thank you for sharing! You did a great job explaining how it works!
Glad it was helpful!

Good to know, thanks for sharing!
I think the EB site says they change potting mix every 7 to 10 years
And have some that are 20 years old!!

Watch the how-to vids on their website. The inventor specifically addresses strawberries in one of them.
I just got one and here is the first place I came, thank you very much for your help
Glad I could help.
I STILL have peppers that are 4 feet tall in mine :)
Thanks for posting I'm planning on buying an Earth Box over the next month. Anyway great presentation well done
Glad it was helpful!
I really like my EBs !
Thanks for this. I just bought a similar box and will be setting it up this weekend.
Good stuff Allen!

If you could get some shade cloth for the greenhouse, they might grow. Hot weather is tough in them.

@@blissfulacresoffgridhomest2098 I haven't grown a lot of cabbage so, not sure. But, it does sound like they are going to seed.
How do you know how much water to put in
You can't over water.
Any excess water comes out the weep hole
That's one of the advantages of the EBs
Just water till you see it running out :)
What numbers (NPK) are you using to plant your EarthBox?
If it's a flowering plant (tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, squash, etc) I use 10-*20*-10

What size boxes works the best for tomatoes, I know you mentioned it but I forgot. Thanks !
Mike Henderson
Use an “Original” Earthbox for tomatoes. Like the one shown here.
Is earth box same as grow box advertisement that keeps popping up? Or is that a knock off trying to steal customers?
I'm sure it's a knock off.
EB kinda started the whole thing.
