radar roy, you have probably saved some lives with your videos. A direct wire cord would make it safer when you install radar detector. Cords that are hanging down can get in your way and distract you.

Thanks Radar Roy. I get quite frustrated having to switch my cell charger and radar detector. This method allows me to power my radar detector while still being able to use my cigarette lighter connection for other things.

As someone who has been working with electronics for close to 40 years now, I found radar Bob's attention to detail both accurate and refreshing. Mentioning such details as the add a circuit kit and direct wire cord proof of his expertise. I turalso liked that he admonished the user to turn the detector off if it direct wired and does not go through the ignition on/off key switch.
I guess I need to go buy some wire cutters. But I don't know if I can do this correctly. I hope it's not too expensive in case I mess up. Anyways, thanks for the video.

I've been pulled over twice by cops over the last few months who saw the cord from my radar detector dangling down across my windshield. Once claimed it was "obstructing my view" (the cord was a foot away from the driver's seat) and the other gave me some nonsense about radar detectors being illegal (they're not). This video is definitely helpful in making my device less obvious. I'm a bit concerned now as many cops are using more advanced radar guns to watch us, using technology that our detectors can't sense. Have newer models of radar detectors adapted to this?

This tutorial was very easy to follow but I did have a question based on something you said in the video. What is the advantage of having a GPS enabled radar detector over a non GPS enabled detector?
Chris Myers it can filter out false alerts and warn you of red light and speed cameras. I have a gps enabled escort 9500ix.

I have a add a circuit but a fuse didn't come with it. I plan to use the heated mirror 10A fuse slot. What fuse do I use for the second add a circuit 2nd slot? I plan on using the direct wire power cord kit in my 2016 Sorento.
If you take your car in for electrical repairs, will directly wiring your radar detector in this fashion cause issues with those types of repairs? Will there be a chance you might have to rewire your radar again after your car would be repaired?
I have purcashed the direct wired for my Escort Max2. My question is do i need to buy an add fuse tap to connect it together two fuses like the video u showed, but my direct wire already has fuse insert it on the wire.please advise.

what fuse do i tap into for Mazda 3? my car cigarette outlet/power still runs even tho my car is off. I know this because i charge my phone even when i turn off my car.

I would try the radio fuse and I believe it's a mini-fuse.

I connected directly to the ignition hot wire (yellow) with a inline fuse (5amp) 2000 Toyota Celica.. and then grounded the black wire to radio mounting bolt. I didn't use the add-a -circuit because I did not know which side of the connection was the (live -Hot) side. waiting for my mirror mount bracket now.

I'd also like to thank your site, radarbusters.com, for providing the supplies I needed to do this, such as the direct wire cord. Your site really was a valuable resource.
Thankfully, I was able to hardwire a dash cam and detector by just using 2 MirrorTap cables to tap into the rain sensor connector. All of it is on a 5A circuit that runs the overhead electronics, in my BMW. Didn't have to run a bunch of wire around the car and it is easily removable, should I have to sell the vehicle. Of course, I also did load testing, to make sure the 3rd party components didn't put the load anywhere near 5A.

HI.. can I use 5 amp on the 2nd slot & use 5 amp also on Smartcord fuse..I got 2016 Ford Explorer & the fuse are Micro2 & Dual Micro/Micro3, I think the minimum is only 5amp. Im going to use add-a-fuse micro & Escort iX. Thanks!
