Hey Roy I live in Virginia and I look up the 3 radar dector that is immune to the newest RDD and they are pretty expensive. Since you post this video have you heard of anymore (less expensive) ones coming to the market?
In Michigan the State Police website states that they use Ka Radar (34.0-36.6hz) and Laser. Also states that no Law Enforcement branch in Michigan uses X or K band Radar. So get you a Cobra RAD 450 at $130 has voice alerts and you can shut X and K band off leaving Ka and Laser open. Add a decent GPS driven HUD speed monitor so you cant help but see how fast you are going. Eyes never leave the windshield and was informed about the cop.
I'm sure there are lots of rules that are not enforced, but are on the books. I've owned detectors since the late 80's and I've lived on or traveled on Military installations in Hawaii, Florida, California, Wyoming and Kentucky to name a few. I currently live near a large Air National Guard Base that also hosts active duty and is staffed by DOD security types (non-military). I have it mounted in plain sight. I've never been ticketed or stopped for having it. Just saying.
Thanks and I did before I responded. I think the confussion is the rules cover commercial carriers, not POV's. I have 2 9500's and have not had any issues entering and driving on base.
The video about the Radar Detector Laws is important. It tells where it's legal to have a Radar Detector & where it's illegal, among other information about it.
@okcbrotha There are no cheaper ones and probably won't be for a while. The Bel STi Driver and the Escort Redline cost 470-500 dollars and they are definitely worth the money. You just need a couple of saves and the RD has paid for itself. Think about the insurance.
The base in question was Selfridge ANG base outside detroit. The other was great lakes naval station, north of chicago. I live near SANG and drive on it all the time. No problems. GLNS, spent a week there. No issues. So, kinda confused if the DOD rule that went into affect in 1999 is still valid.
Hello, what is considered a cheap radar? I bought one for like 100-120 bucks. Its a cobra and barely started using it. Ill get a couple of false alerts through out the day but what your take on this? thanks....
In Greece it's illegal to use RD without the proper license which of course never appeared in our legal system... Jammers are totally forbidden, especially radar jammers where, except from the jamming effect, the use of the spectrum is under license.
5:55 So as long as your tissue box isn't lined with tinfoil (lol, just go with it), will there be much degredation in signal reading? I ordered a sunvisor organizer for my V1 which has a clear plastic front, but the rear has a nylon and velcro flap covering the rear antenna.
Is the Corbra XRS 9960g invisible to radar detector detectors? and if i am in a state that allows the usage of radar detectors and the cops see it, they cant do anything right?
***** You got to boycott certain insurance agencies-it's a racket. State farm pushed for lower speed limits around here and got it... also, no matter what radar detector you get you will need to get a better and better one...and they will get better radar and you cannot win in my book. soon by the time you deceace this planet you will have paid out thousands...
Hey Radar Roy where can I find information regarding the state I live in...NY...and whether radar detectors and laser jammers are legal or illegal? I know from doing searches people say its legal here but I would like some written proof incase I ever run into a problem. Thanks.
Hey Roy, I have a small question for you. i recently bought XRS-9400 Cobra. I am wondering.. is this device suppose to catch emergency vehicles? Because mine didnt, even tho it was really close to a cop car. Now is radar detector suppose to catch Any emergency vehicles or only emergency vehicles that are equipped with radar device like laser guns..?
Hey Roy if I live in Omaha Nebraska and I have a Beltronics V10 radar/laser detector, are those illegal for me to have in my car. And if I have it on my front windshield kinda down low but in the middle of the window?
Jack Powell - I forgot to mention that I also have an article here with a new video that goes into depth about radar detector and jammer laws throughout the USA and Canada: www.radarbusters.com/State-Radar-Detector-and-Laser-Jammer-Laws-s/2412.htm Also you have your detector mounted fine, drive safe and smart....
in WA state stoopeers use something like a pair of binocular that my Passport couldn't even detect. Any idea what it is and what available on the market to detect it?
RR, I couldn't find any data to back up your claim on radar detectors on military bases. As I have driven on a couple since I've started using my escort 9500xi's, at no time during the ID process has the gate guard questioned or inquired about my detector. I've gotten some "looks" by the base SP's but none have challenged me. No signs are posted upon entering the bases but that doesn't mean there isn't a base rule that states this.
What about an f-150 in new york? I heard 18k for any vehicle or 10k GVW for any commercial vehicle is illegal. GVW is 7k, but will I get harassed when I have a trailer or anything towed behind me? Since new york makes any pickup trucks get commercial plates even though they arent commercial vehicles.
Here is what I would recommend: www.radardetector.org/reviews/beltronics-sti-magnum-radar-detector-review/ Download my free guide 1st, will save you some $$$
Hey Roy, can you do a segment on correct mounting of radar detectors? I see a lot of people mounting them on the dash and/or pointing to the sky.....can't help myself but laugh...
In another video (not yours) it touts the 9500ix as being great but not to count on the 360 degree sensor to detect laser. My Passport 4600 which I have to replace it had an L for Laser. Does L no longer exist? As I understood it from that other guy in the other video that it doesn't detect L. The ON indicator light on my 4600 only comes on when I get false alerts. I get false Ka, probably because I live near an airport. I get real K and Ka but it beeps on once and usually right on top of the cop. So it is time to replace it probaly from taking one too many falls MY History with Radar Detectors (only if you're bored): I started with a Cobra in 1986 which served me the very first week I had it and numerous amount of times it detected everything. When it broke I purchased the passport 4600 in 1996. In the very first week I was snagged and ticketed and I called Escort and made a case for getting a new one at a discount because of what occurred. They made good so I'm going to be a loyal Escort customer. A good 10 years ago my cord had frayed. I was in need and pressed for time so I purchased a replacement cord from Radio Shack that was not a proper fit for the 4600. Again pressed for time and in need it was sufficient. I never had a problem with the cord for the longest time but had to jiggle it over time. Over the past couple years I was having issues with the suction cups. I went into Radio Shack where I believe I purchased the original detectors and they said they don't manufacturer the cups for it anymore. I took it prima faccia that this was correct. A guy suggested melting the original cups on top of suction cups at staples. so I could get the suction and still the correct fit. I eventual discovered (through my wife) that it was possible on Amazon to purchase the cups, (never thought to go online to Escort) it fell off the windshield one too many times. Otherwise I believe with the proper cord and good scution cups it would still be working flawlessly. now back to L on new detectors? Thanks for your help
AlternativeDesign100 All electronic devices including your cell phone, TV car radio emit stray RF. The Stealth radar detectors are stealth as they shield this
***** I see, so it's not a dedicated frequency transmitted for the purpose, but in fact the detection of general EMC. The analogy with a car radio and TV makes sense... a cell phone is of course bidirectioanl communications device at 800, 900MHz and 1.8/1.9GHz and so will clearly transmit as well as receive. Anyway, I understand now what is being detected. Thx. Interesting that they can actually detect the difference of EMC between a car radio and the radar unit.
None, you will need to spend at least 250 for a good detector. You can download my free 78-page buyers guide here and save 10% when you're ready to buy Anthony Bailey www.radardetector.org/free-radar-detector-e-book/
Jose Gonzalez - Have an video/article here on POP: www.radarbusters.com/POP-Enabled-Radar-Detectors-s/2404.htm and VG2 has been replaced by the Spectre and have an article/video here: /Can-the-Spectre-RDD-Detect-Your-Radar-Detector-s/2345.htm
yea its creazy when im driving and I see pop and vg2 and there no cop and one there just me and the cvs and im like the doors at the store set off my radar and says kband im like really
Ontario they can seize it... OPP has the spectre's he was talking about... And basically any D.O.T. has a detector (anywhere in canada), so be careful around them...
Wow! Never knew there was so much to the law with these things! Thanks for keeping us informed Roy.
Virginia: We have not and will never legalize radar detectors, we have a very lucrative cash cow system going.
+truesonic Cops have not used VG2 in years, they use the Spectre now in Virgiina which can detect 98% of all detectors
Miss you Roy! RIP

All but two states, Virginia and Washington DC.... when did DC become a state?

California does not enforce the windshield laws, they are more busy enforcing speeding and carpool violations.

I love my Valentine One. I wish they made one that was invisible to the detector detectors.
Is the Corbra XRS 9960g invisible to radar detector detectors? and if i am in a state that allows the usage of radar detectors and the cops see it, they cant do anything right?
Hey Roy, how about commercial vehicles? Are the laws the same for each state?
Chipp Marshal If the vehicle weighs over 10,000 it's a federal violation
***** You got to boycott certain insurance agencies-it's a racket. Are there any new RDD that's out and can detect the 9500ci/Redline/STi in 2016?
Hey Radar Roy where can I find information regarding the state I live in...NY...and whether radar detectors and laser jammers are legal or illegal? I know from doing searches people say its legal here but I would like some written proof incase I ever run into a problem.
Thanks.
There is currently a bill floating around in the Virginia state legislator HB 2079 to repeal the radar detector law on the books.

But a completely different government entity than Maryland. It's also in VA too :)
great information Roy!

Jack Powell - Yes, you're legal - Just watch it however if you plan a trip to DC, there it's illegal. Drive safe
Jack Powell - I forgot to mention that I also have an article here with a new video that goes into depth about radar detector and jammer laws throughout the USA and Canada: www.radarbusters.com/State-Radar-Detector-and-Laser-Jammer-Laws-s/2412.htm

You missed national parks..several of them have laws against detectors. Carlsbad Caverns NP is one of them...
You are correct RoadTripVidz and thanks for reminding me...
No problemo, nice video
I had a question. Does dark window tint affect radar detectors and the range on them?
Eddie Waters only on laser and that is if you have the tint infront of the laser eye that is ontop
what are the best radar detector for all forms of lasers and cams?
in WA state stoopeers use something like a pair of binocular that my Passport couldn't even detect. Any idea what it is and what available on the market to detect it?
That sounds like a laser. If it is, there are speed laser detectors but they are difficult to defeat.

@xXxS4v4g3xXx No they are legal in BC, AB, and SASK
I am doing a case study for the Whistler Corporation. Can you give me any historical information about this company? thanks
Thank you Roy!!
I think is yes , in quebec they are but in all the canada , i don't know
hey there, so im thinking to buy passport 9500ix. is it good?
Is the escort redline immune to the newer rdd's?

Christian Richter 10+ for commercial vehicle
So its 2014.. im a commercial driver.. what is the best recommendation I can get on a radar purchase??. . One that be hard to detect(invisible)

now back to L on new detectors?
Thanks for your help
I got a ticket on military base for my radar detector. No fine just 2 points added to my record.
Any law changes in state of CA.
Good review
Great info!
Don't have a federal law book in front of me but if you Google radar detectors on military bases you'll find the info
What's the difference between the 1 and 1.8 V1?
The firmware, if you go to their website you can obtain all their version history
What about Valentine 1 & 1.8 are they detected?
Yes, all the V1's can be detected by the Spectre
are they illegal everywhere in Canada ?
I have some contacts but don't know anything about the history
why does a radar detector emit anything? Surely it's only 'looking' (by receiving) for radar the way a radio receives RF... I don't get it... help?

Great Vid.. Thank you!!
very useful info!!
But even if they detect them, the cops can't do anything about it right? thnx
radar roy is the man
Very informative
I enjoyed watching
No it isn't. But I think your point was that Washington D.C. is not one of the 50 states because it's a federal district.
No all the Cobras can be detected
Thanks dude
Thanks
yeah don't come on a military base with a radar detector. I got a ticket for it.
Radar Roy...Do you have a radar installed in that right ear?
Best Radar for around 75-100 dollars?
None, you will need to spend at least 250 for a good detector. You can download my free 78-page buyers guide here and save 10% when you're ready to buy Anthony Bailey www.radardetector.org/free-radar-detector-e-book/
Don't tell the MP's, SP's or rent-a-cops at Great Lakes NS, Fort Knox or Selfridge ANGB because I've not had any issues on those bases. Just saying.
no i not sure about the province but alberta is fine sask end manitoba
Is it legal in the United Kingdom
+Brendon Selaj Speed Camera detectors are legal in the UK.
Yup, they're illegal here in Virginia.
Radar detection systems are not allowed on a military installation.
Man, you have to check the law book to do anything these days.
Washington DC is in the state of Maryland. :)
informative...thnx
there's also a cheaper option than buying one of these things. follow the speed limit. just saying.
Legal in ny?
kaz9781 he said legal in all 50 states
I like your Saab
how about in finland?
+Konu Detectors are illegal in Finland
Ty for answering !!
Hmmm I saw a vid of a guy pulled over in Cali nd fined 175$ for carrying a radar detector and it was on highway...sooo
Yea what's pop vg2
Jose Gonzalez - Have an video/article here on POP: www.radarbusters.com/POP-Enabled-Radar-Detectors-s/2404.htm and VG2 has been replaced by the Spectre and have an article/video here: /Can-the-Spectre-RDD-Detect-Your-Radar-Detector-s/2345.htm
yea its creazy when im driving and I see pop and vg2 and there no cop and one there just me and the cvs and im like the doors at the store set off my radar and says kband im like really
Jose Gonzalez - Well turn POP off. What model radar detector do you have?
yep its official that sucks
Ontario they can seize it... OPP has the spectre's he was talking about... And basically any D.O.T. has a detector (anywhere in canada), so be careful around them...
SO MUCH BLA BLA BLA..... SIMPLY YOU COULD HAVE TOLD IF ITS LEAGL OR NOT...
Pa
Radar Detector Detector! F ME! Cops always win :(
washington dc is not a state!!!!!
