The oven is known as a kiln. It is used for baking pottery and glazing applied to it. Pottery was a thing in the early 90's and is still around, just not a thing in school art courses anymore. Also, Bette Midler was a professional singer for years before taking on her role in this film.
Was going to say almost the exact same about both the Kiln and Bette Midler. I work at a college and we have a kiln in our art department building. Actually, will be there tomorrow to help the instructors get their controller connected to the network to upgrade the firmware for it.
@@DaveBukowski That's pretty awesome, Dave. I remember doing some when I was in Middle School but that was back in the late 90's with a 120V plug and cord kiln
@@gawainethefirst Yeah was going to say this too haha. It’s not passing trend and is still prevalent in schools around the world till this day. I’m sure pottery, like many things, will continue to be here after our deaths. 😅
Great reaction. The reason Winnie turned to stone and the others didn’t was because she was standing on hallowed ground and witches can’t stand there without adverse effects.
The animation for Binx was considered groundbreaking at the time. Animating a realistic cat is very hard since there are so many things going on when they move around.
Honestly, animating realistic talking animals in live-action movies still looks pretty dang iffy even now. I think they, actually, did a fantastic job with Binx (especially in not over doing it).
"Oh look, another GLORIOUS morning... It makes me SICK!!!!" Oh my god, the is LITERALLY one my favorite quote in the movie! I actually have ceramic travel coffee mug WITH that quote.
Sarah and Mary blew up because the curse expired. Winnie turned to stone at the end because she set foot on hallowed ground first. And then she blew up with the curse.
That whole "dance until you die!" thing reminds me of one of the craziest things that ever happened history, in my opinion. The year was 1518. Location: The Holy Roman Empire. Times are tough, people are starving, working like slaves in the fields, and not getting hardly anything out of it, because they have to give most of it to the local baron or some other minor nobility. Stress is at an all time high. Then one day, an ordinary peasant woman starts dancing in the streets, for no apparent reason. There's no music, no other dancers, just her dancing by herself. Now, back in these days, if you danced and there was no music, it was thought you were either completely mad or under some sort of witch's or wizard's spell. However, people didn't shun them or avoid them like you'd think, they joined in! Now, it wasn't some gentle medieval sort of dance, no, this was all out chaos. Limbs going everywhere, bending over backwards, moves that would make the girl from the Exorcist jealous. This went on for days, and many people started having heart attacks, physical injuries, their feet were practically falling off at this point. Then the government got involved. At, first, the idea was to give them a platform and a live band. I know this sounds like their trying to exasperate the issue, but to them it was like if you got a song stuck in your head, then to play that song until you got sick of hearing it, then it stops. But, that didn't work. So, the government decided to do the extreme opposite of that, ban all forms of public dancing. That didn't work, either. Now, people were dying after weeks--LITERAL WEEKS!--of dancing. They couldn't stop, and they danced themselves to death. Quite a few people went out this way. Now, eventually, it all stopped. It was chalked up to be a strange form of mass hysteria. But, can you imagine, that happened in 1518, and these Sanderson sisters were hanged like a hundred or so years later, so they would have known about the Dancing Plague. Maybe, in this universe, it was witches like them over in Europe that started that plague with a song-like spell. It's things like this that bother me when I hear it in movies. "Dance until you die!"
To answer the question of why Winnie turned to stone and the other two didn't... it's actually unrelated to the curse ending. Winnie turns to stone because she fell off her broom and was standing on hallowed ground (i.e. the cemetery). As stated early on, a witch can't stand on hallowed ground. So, that would have happened regardless of whether the sun was coming up or not. And an extra bit of clarification: the reason the witches don't stay dead when Max and the gang burn them in the pottery kiln is not really because they can't be burned. It's because the curse is continually keeping them alive for Halloween so, they can't die until the night is over (they'll just keep coming back like they did when Max first lit the candle). The only way to destroy them is to make sure they can't renew themselves permanently by taking the lives of children. Unfortunately, our heroes don't figure that out until much later.
Aw. The most adorable little kitty. Hocus Pocus is one of my favorites to watch. Sarah Jessica Parker stole the show. Her character is so ditzy, playful and funny. You would make a Sarah Sanderson if you did a cosplay of her 💙
that room in the school is a kiln darling. for firing ceramic (clay). to harden and for affixing a glaze. Bet Midler is a famous singer. see her in the semi-bio pic The Rose (1979)
The actor that plays the devil is Gary Marshall. The other lady is Penny Marshall. They are brother and sister in real life. But R.I.P. to both actors. Both good directors too
"Why is he wearing a t-shirt above a long-sleeve short?" Three reasons: #1. It's a fashion choice that seems to kinda pop in and out of style every few years or so. #2. If you've ever lived in a colder climate, the reason becomes much more self-explanatory (especially for a character who's supposed to be from California, who would most likely prefer to be wearing his favorite t-shirt but, Massachusetts is too cold for him to handle wearing it by itself). Finally... #3. Hollywood just really likes layers. 😂
Hi Blue!🙂Great reactions to the classic Hocus Pocus!!!🎬👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽The sequel is a mixed bagged. There are good things about it, and bad things. Your kitten is adorable!🐈
Awesome reaction one of my favorite movies my favorite Sanderson sister is Sarah for obvious reasons lol she's actually smarter than she lets on like she was the only one that remembered dead man's toes and she was the only one that noticed movement in the back alley but Winifred called her back before she got the chance to investigate
The witches were executed on Halloween 1693 in this film, even though the actual Salem witch trials actually were already over by then (ended in May of 1693). They clearly were trying to relate the execution of the Sanderson sisters to that period of hysteria however, even if it wasn’t historically accurate to do so.
I don't know if you take recommendations but, especially for the of October, I wanted to recommend "Practical Magic" to you. It's an amazing classic movie to watch
Max isn't a hippie, he's a 90's teen. The reason there was a big furnace in the school was it's a kiln, it's for making pottery, you saw the art in the room outside of it.
1) Your hair looks great. It frames your face really well. You look beautiful. 2) This reaction was great (I think you have a little witch in you and this isn't the first time I have thought that). 3) You might like a couple of old movies to bring out that witch in you: "Book Bell and Candle" (1958 Jimmy Stewart, Kim Novak) and "I Married a Witch" (1942 Veronica Lake). Just a couple of warm, fun, old movies.
Check out the sequel too. It's pretty cringe, but still kinda fun. The first movie is far better. 👍 EDIT: OMG I just saw your kitten right after I finished typing this. They're so cute!!! 😁

Great reaction! Yes, the sequel is worth watching! To celebrate its 25th anniversary, a book was published which was the first film in novel format and a sequel. It follows Poppy, the daughter of Max and Allison, who accidentally summoned the Sanderson sisters back and this time they possess her parents along with Dani. Sarah Jessica Parker was said to had an ancestor named Esther Elwell, one of the women accused of being a witch during the Salem Witch Trials. After a young girl said she saw Esther’s “spectre” strangling neighbor Mary Fitch, Elwell was arrested, but escaped going to trial. If you loved Thora Birch, Dani, I recommend Monkey Trouble and Alaska; it’s about a girl and a kleptomaniac monkey. For Kathy Najimy, I recommend Sister Act and Sister Act 2 with Whoopi Goldberg and Maggie Smith. For Bette Midler, I must recommend The First Wives Club, Drowning Mona, and Oliver and Company. I think the burning rain of death thing is extra funny because it's kinda a reference to The Wizard of Oz, where the witch melts in water.
