Lydia accepted marrying Betelgeuse, not because she wanted it, but to save them, because they were dying. Fun fact, Betelgeuse is a star in the constellation of Orion, originally derived from the Arabic from "giant's shoulder", with time it has been used to mean "armpit". which fits Betelgeuse's personality very well.
If you liked this, you'll probably like most other Tim Burton movies. He has a very well defined personal 'gothic heightened reality' aesthetic. Edward Scissorhands is another big one from this era. Also his two Batman movies are quite fun takes on the character and kickstarted late 80s/early 90s superhero boom.

Great video. For reference to the football players; "The deceased football team is actually based on a real-life tragedy involving the Marshall University Football Team in 1970. While on the way home from a game, their plane crashed and tragically took the lives of 37 players, 8 coaching staff members, and 25 team boosters."
@@Cau_No The thing is, _Stranger Things_ will end before that happens, because Winona Ryder will be in _Beetlejuice 2_ with Michael Keaton (back again as Lydia & Betelgeuse, respectively), with _Wednesday_ star Jenna Ortega cast as Lydia's daughter.
What I find most interesting about this, is when they first tried to get the Deetzes out of their home, they were trying too hard. They already knew they could interact with their environment, so imagine if chairs started moving by themselves, or during dinner plates and glasses were suddenly flung off the table, or random doors opened and closed, lights turned on and off by themselves, etc. They didn't have to go through such an elaborate plan of being"seen" as much as making their presence known.
In 1970 the Marshall Football team were on their way back home from a game when their plane crashed killing all thirty-seven Marshall football players on aboard the plane, along with the team’s coach, its doctors, the university athletic director and 25 team boosters-some of Huntington, West Virginia’s most prominent citizens-who had traveled to North Carolina to cheer on the Thundering Herd. I think that is where the reference comes from.
I heard that the filming of exactly what would happen during the Banna Boat Song was a secret from Winona Ryder/Lydia so her reaction to the adults acting silly was her genuine hilarity. Lydia and Winona are iconict for your Halloween look you should catch Heathers film if you haven't seen it is so very. Your pumpkinhead toy call him JD
You didn't seem to get the joke at 19:03 . It's a reference to the wicked witches in The Wizard of Oz. One of them gets a house dropped on her from the tornado that takes Dorothy to Oz.
Two movies worth mentioning: Heathers was another movie from this era with Winona Ryder - not Tim Burton, but a similar sense of humor; and Little Shop of Horrors is a musical from a few years before this that also has a darkly comedic tone.
They used Claymation to animate the creatures. It's where they make creatures out of clay, and move it a little. take a shot. move it again, take a shot, etc. It's a very long process but it's signature Tim Burton.
@@nsasupporter7557 Except Burton only produced that movie, not directed it. Yet, the Neitherworld of the _Beetlejuice_ cartoon -- executively produced by Burton -- easily eerily resembled Halloween Town from _Nightmare Before Christmas_ (the two-faced mayor, Oogie Boogie's henchmen resembling the Sappy-Faced Ghouls, the afterlife being full of otherworldly creatures not just ghosts/poltergeists, Jack Skellington's head being on Betelgeuse's carnival hat along with a carousal of bats [a foreshadowing of Keaton portraying Batman], etc.).

I never even realized that Michael Keaton was Beetlejuice when I was a kid. Until after the first Batman (1989) actually which will always be the best to me, also by Tim Burton. It was the first time Batman got Dark.
As a kid there were two scenes where I realised they were the same guy. 1) When Beetlejuice is talking about his qualifications and spoke in Keaton's normal voice. 2) When Bruce Wayne says "You wanna get nuts, come on let's get nuts!" in Vicki's apartment, right before Joker shoots him.
If you haven't seen Pee Wee's Big Adventure, that's Tim Burton's first big studio movie, and you can definitely see the origins of his style in that one. The one thing I'll also say, Danny Elfman's score in both movies is so damned listenable, you should take a break sometime and just listen to them, it gives you a whole new appreciation for how the atmosphere of Tim Burton movies get crafted.

Glad you liked it. 👍 One of the questions you asked was, how was the special effects done in those days. Answer: A combination or best choice of, claymation, puppeteering, and/or blue screen. These techniques were eventually put prices and now overshadowed by the current forms of cgi. wonk wonk 😁
This Beetlejuice (1988) role of Michael Keaton as "Betelgeuse" was what caused a question of whether or not he would be a good "Batman" (1989), also Michael Keaton was a initially comedic actor in films such as ; Night Shift (1982), Mr Mom (1983), Johnny Dangerously (1984), Gung HO (1986), Multiplicity (1996)
Don't forget he answered that question when in between Beetlejuice and Batman, he did the movie Clean and Sober which was his first serious role and he did a terrific job on it. And as for his comedic roles, you forgot about The Dream Team (1989).
Even though this movie was not a musical, the movie South Park was. Probably the funniest musical ever. You should do a poll on your patreon for South Park
In the 70's there was a plane crash that killed an entire college football team from the University of Marshall here in the states. If you want to know more about it then I suggest "We Are Marshall". Also it seems like you got a little thing for Winona Ryder....In no particular order..."Reality Bites", "Heathers", "Welcome Home Roxy Charmicheal" are a couple few you should check out.
Catherine O'Hara SCTV 1976-81 writers and actors along with John Candy, Eugene Levy, Joe Flaherty, Dave Thomas, Rick Morais, Martin Short, Harold Ramis, Andrea Martin all started out in Canada.
She’s been on alot things, she’s most famously known for the mom on Home Alone. She was also on the MTV produced movie “Orange County” with Tom Hanks’ son Colin Hanks. And most recently her and Eugene Levy were on the show Schitt’s Creek.
The football players were either on a bus or an airplane which crashed, so they all died together. The weird ghost scenes are mostly about how people die, which affects how they present in the afterlife. It's a fun concept. For example, the suicides become social workers.
I highly recommend watching Little Shop of Horrors from 1986. I know you said you don't like musicals (I'm not a huge fan of them either), but trust me, you will love it.
You may not like musicals , but you should try watching some . For instance : the rock opera " TOMMY " - Pink Floyd The Wall - Little Shop Of Horrors - Rocky Horror Picture Show- The Blues Brothers
I lived once in a 30 m² house with only 2 rooms, a bathroom and a kitchen/living room. Now imagine if I had died when I was there and had to stay forever as a ghost confined in such a small place.
FYI, I just found out Tim Burton's working on a sequel to Beetlejuice with the original cast. According to imdb: From critically acclaimed filmmaker and screenwriter, Tim Burton presents the long-awaited sequel to the Halloween classic. Keaton's action-packed comedic demon returns to the silver screen for more mischief than ever before. When the Maitland house EXPLODES, so does the fun, so buckle up. The original cast and crew plus new additions return when Beetlejuice is found homeless in the netherworld. He takes it upon himself to travel back to the mortal world seeking comfort, only to find the Maitland house has blown up due to a gas leak, leaving our beloved characters without a humble home to share the love. In search of guidance, the crew travels down to the Netherworld only to find there's a new sheriff in these parts, The Jersey Devil (Will Arnett). Through a surprising turn of events, the self-known ladies man, Beetlejuice learns that the Jersey Devil is his long-lost son through one of his numerous love affairs. Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder) is wooed by the enchanting Jersey Devil, despite being married to a struggling real estate agent (David Harbour). Through kooky scenarios and ecstatic characters, the fun never stops. Though entertaining, it is also a heart-wrenching tale that shows Beetlejuice is just another man trying to find his way in the world. The story also progresses the idea that a family is never truly ideal. The story continues when you say the release date three times unbroken. Release date TBD.
as someone that also strongly dislikes musicals, two musicals i would recommend are: the rocky horror picture show into the woods (original stage play from 1987, not the 2014 version, though its not bad either) its almost impossible not to like these ones.
OK, musicals you should see….“Singing in the Rain“ (with Donald O’Conner, Debbie Reynolds and Gene Kelly); Bye, Bye Birdie“ (with Ann Margret and Dick Van Dyke); „Yankee Doodle Dandy“ (with James Cagney) and a fun one…“The Best Little Whore House in Texas“ (with Burt Reynolds and Dolly Pardon). And 1976‘s „A Star is Born“ (with `Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson). I think you might like musicals by the time you finish these…..Cheers

I'm watching your intro: I don't like musicals either but I will tell you ONE that is FANTASTIC, and it is an old one: Singin' In The Rain. I promise you that you will LOVE it. One of the best ever.
I've you've ever wanted to know what it's like to be on every drug in the world at the same time, you should check out a musical called 'The Apple.' It's ten pounds of crazy in a five-pound bag.
"Does that mean you can teleport to...." *Think* *Think* *Think* *Got all of existence available, pick something good* "...the barber shop?"
You are amazing Blue.
If you want a good musical to try for your first one, watch Little Shop of Horrors (1986).
Glad you liked it. 👍
One of the questions you asked was, how was the special effects done in those days.
You should do a poll on your patreon for South Park
it's a Tim Burton movie, he always used stop motion animation for his effects.
Two musicals I recommend are Cabaret and A Chorus Line. Both are excellent.
I LOVE Cabaret
Catherine O'Hara SCTV 1976-81 writers and actors along with John Candy, Eugene Levy, Joe Flaherty, Dave Thomas, Rick Morais, Martin Short, Harold Ramis, Andrea Martin all started out in Canada.
She’s been on alot things, she’s most famously known for the mom on Home Alone. She was also on the MTV produced movie “Orange County” with Tom Hanks’ son Colin Hanks. And most recently her and Eugene Levy were on the show Schitt’s Creek.
I loved the cartoon of the show back in the early 90s. Great film. Classic.
The football players were either on a bus or an airplane which crashed, so they all died together.
The weird ghost scenes are mostly about how people die, which affects how they present in the afterlife. It's a fun concept.
For example, the suicides become social workers.
Your channel has a lot of potential. My only suggestion is to fix the films source audio. It's barely audible. Good luck
Michael Keaton was meant to play Beetlejuice and he was crazy and so hilarious!
Michael Keaton in a young role playing Beetlejuice
Sadly we never got the sequel - Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian. Yes, that really was going to be the title.
According to imdb:
From critically acclaimed filmmaker and screenwriter, Tim Burton presents the long-awaited sequel to the Halloween classic.
Johnny Depp is supposed to be in it also I believe. I know he said he was interested.
Beetlejuice is one my favorite cartoon/movies from the 90s besides the Addams Family and Casper The Friendly Ghost
1988 for the movie. 1989-1992 for the cartoon. 2010 for the musical. 2024 for the movie sequel.
Look at a picture of the mayor of Chicago... She could play Beetlejuice in a remake.
It's Gollum doing Beetlejuice cosplay.
Interesting fact Michael Keaton "Beetlejuice" spent only two weeks on set for this role and improvised a majority of his lines.
I believe the sandworm may have been stop motion not green screen, Tim Burton is a fan of stop motion and claymation
I was literally sitting here thinking why does she think this is a musical 😂. Had to think for a sec on that..
Families in each house would do the dance round the dinner table
This is the only movie I ever saw in a theatre that when it was over I sayed to see again. Michael Keaton is perfect as Beetlejuice.
as someone that also strongly dislikes musicals, two musicals i would recommend are:
the rocky horror picture show
into the woods (original stage play from 1987, not the 2014 version, though its not bad either)
its almost impossible not to like these ones.
If you enjoyed Winona, watch "Heathers". Christian Slater is an awesome co-star in it.
I'd recommend Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Also, fun reaction, thank you.
Trixy, you didn't play his line , nice f'n model, honk honk, that was one of the funnier parts of the movie
24:57 practical effects
I never noticed before, but I don't think they would've died from the fall from the bridge. It didn't look that high.
Baby girl … at 26: 90 .. you can live till 60 … I’m 62 .. not ready to kick the bucket yet … in fact I could teach you a thing or two !!! Love your channel ! Love your reactions .. never underestimate guys that are older then you
Now there is a sequel coming out later this year.
Hi Blue!🙂You probably remember Catherine O'Hara as the mom in the "Home Alone" movies. Another film by Tim Burton you may enjoy is the comedy "Ed Wood" (1994) starring a young Johnny Depp. Great reactions to this enjoyable Film fit for Halloween, Blue!!!🎬👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
@Mike Brown No. The young Johnny Depp was in Nightmare on Elm St
It’s the perfect time of the year for you first musical, little shop of horrors, you will love it :))
The football team is reference to when the college team for Marshall were all killed while traveling.
Great reactions 😎... Beetlejuice Beetlejuice...
This is why demons like Valak doesn't scare me. I've seen Beetlejuice. Y'all ain't that crazy.
Michael Keaton just won an Emmy for Dopesick, you should check that series.
This is the only time I've ever seen a zombie football player.
The first place she thinks to teleport herself is the barber shop? Haha. I was thinking Paris or Fiji. ;-)
