Disney's Hocus pocus 2 (2022)
The sequel will be released Sep. 30th if I remember right. On Disney plus. So in just a weeks time.
Disney's Popeye (1980) with Robin Williams
Fun fact: this was made to be a Disney Channel original movie, but it’s crew were making it feel like it deserved to be released theatrically. Even if it’s critical success wasn’t as good, the cult following it received makes it an underrated classic
I would be surprised if it got a disney channel release. It says stuff that would never be allowed on kids programming. Most notably would be the entire "Virgin" storyline.
Disney Channel didn’t have DCOMs until the late 90s. Prior to that, they were Disney Channel Premiere Films. I don’t remember Hocus Pocus ever being considered a Disney Channel Premiere Film- it was produced by Walt Disney Pictures, not Walt Disney Television like many of the DCPFs.
From the plot, I can see how this was intended for television. And it works for tv. As pointed out, the film did not do well in theaters (partially because it was a summer release, not an autumn) but clearly it thrives on television, the medium it was intended towards. It's like watching a tv film that had a feature film budget.
@@magic713m We’ll have to agree to disagree on that. I do believe the July release severely hurt the film’s box office gross and it would have made bank in October.
@@therealameliabedelia7821 That's what I said. Part of the reason the film lost money was because it was released in the middle of summer
Do you guys want me to see the sequel?
YES!
1,000 times YES!
Yes that would be cool
Yes! Most definitely!
Yes
Max drinking the potion to save Dani is a direct response to Binx being unable to save Emily in the beginning of the film.
I always found Max trading his life for Dani was a direct reflection of Thackery and Emily. In a beautiful way, if you think about it, Max did what Thackery wished he could have done for his own little sister. It’s poignant that Max and Dani are around the same age as Thackery and Emily were when she died.
Why didn't he just break the vial though? Lol
@@granddaddy_funkin that case I believe Winnie would be so mad she would've killed all of them. Max gave them time
@@granddaddy_funk "Give me that vial!" "Put her down or I'll smash it!" "Smash it and she dies!"
Bette Middler, who plays Winnie had a long career in acting and singing and was a big deal in those fields. Anyway, she had so much fun making this movie and enjoyed it. Kathy Najimy who was Mary was a big fan of Bette Middler and was just fangirling over her. Also, while they had the girl up in the air on the broom, between takes Bette Middler would sing to help keep her calm.
Just a few random facts
Didn't learn until a year ago that the third sister was Peggy Hill.
Bathhouse Betty is my Absolute favorite album of hers..
She's Amazing..
I’ve adored Bette since I was a very young human. It was later I learned she is also huge in the LGBTQ community and is a total queen!
@@Angelicwings1 I got to work with her on "Feel the Beat"(Netflix movie), I was sad she didn't have a bigger part.
Bette's a phenomenal singer!
23:11 It's a kiln, for making pottery from clay. Most high schools don't have one, but I can imagine that there are a few that do.
34:24 My interpretation is that Winifred becoming a statue is due to the fact that she's standing on hallowed ground. If her black flame candle hadn't been the only thing keeping her on Earth, she would have remained as a statue forever, but when the spell wore off she exploded just like the other two.
I live in Salem! I can walk to Max’s and Alison’s houses from my house in less than a half an hour! So excited that you’re watching this, I wish they filmed the new one here but this movie gives an amazing look into how beautiful Salem is in the fall. Also, the scenes in the graveyard were taken in the next town over, Marblehead, at Old Burial Hill, which is the oldest cemetery in America!
Really ? You're very lucky
Thackery Binx went on to star in NCIS. Took me years of watching him to realize it was the same person 😅
I LOVE this movie so much. The chief reason I love Bette Midler is one of my favorite performers. Just the way she performs "I Put A Spell On You."
I love how, with this movie, the antagonists are the face of it. They're the ones front and center on every piece of promotional material.
Technically Emily was kidnapped! Sarah sang that song to lure Emily to their house, so she was COMPELLED by magic
I actually think Max drinking the potion was the best course of action. Suppose it wasn't a Disney movie and Winnifred really was willing to kill. Leaving her no other option, she really would have killed the girl. However, taking the potion gave her another option, so she didn't. People with no other options do crazy things.
I never understood why Max didn't just smash the potion bottle on the ground. lol
@@ZeniaRose because it is very likely that Winnie would have killed his sister in retaliation. Winnie had already threatened to do such a thing before Max drunk the potion.
@@ZeniaRose Did you miss the part where Winnie said if he smashes it the girl dies? Lol
The Sanderson's are hilarious.
"Mary!"
Mary:"Well, hello!"(gets smacked with a broom.)
Winnie:"I AM CALM!"
Mary:"Oh sister ..thy are not being honest with thyself!"
Girl dressed as angel:"Bless you!"
Sanderson's:(shriek in terror)
Sara: "Amok! Amok amok amok!
(Winnie elbows her and knocks the wind out of her)
The sisters straight up sacrificing Sara by shoving her out onto the road.
Winnie: "How was I cursed with you as my sister's?!!"
Sara:(playing with some toilet paper)"Just lucky, I guess!"
(Sara catching the "burning rain of death"on her tongue).
"Dead man's Chung's!"
Winnie:"I want to get that rat faced kid who called me...."
Mary:"Don't say it!!!"
Sara:(Helpfully)"Ugly?"
Winnie:(cries, then smacks Sara in the stomach)"She really hurt my feelings! She doesn't even know me!"
Mary:"She's just jealous..."
Doug Jones as Billy Butcherson!(way before "Hellboy"or "Shape of Water". You might also know him as one of the clowns from Penguins gang in "Batman Returns").
Great halloween flick!
@@cheneethompson5756 Winnie: Hello, I want my book. Bonjour, Je veux mon livre
He did it to protect his sister clearly
Binx is my favorite character. Cat or not a cat.
The thing in the school was a large pottery kiln, used to fire clay pieces into their solid form. The school likely has either a ceramics or general art class that uses the kiln.
Okay so there waa a bunch of deleted scenes that should have been left in that explain a few things.
One of which is the Witches use this thing called a candy crow to give to the children they eat it, Sarah sings her song and they become hypnotized thus what happened to Emily.
With that when they come back they go to a grocery store and retreive the ingredients to make them, hand them out to the kids and thus it occurs again,
There was a funny deleted scene in the school where they find the pool thinking it is used to drown witches and Winifred is pushed in,
Also to explain something everyone misses over is the reason the witches didn't permanently die when set fire to in the kiln was because the Black Flame Candle's magic overid their deaths. So they lived.
Plus the man who played Binx and voiced the cat version is Jason Marsden who you know as the voice of Max (Goofy's son), Kovu, and the English Voice of Haku in Spirited Away
The reason the book opened it's eye at the end is because of Winifred crying Book before she turned to stone.
Didnt know at Jason Marsden! Fun!
Foreshadowing the sequel.
@@Magick201 Why did you leave the comment in reply to my post rather than leave if on it's own?
Also there was a deleted scene where Allison is fighting off the witches and one of them mentions her ancestor Eliza Podbury who they call a White Witch. Don't know if it would've added to the movie but it's an interesting detail especially with Allison being so magic savvy in this.
Jason Marsden was both the voice for human and cat Thackery Binx but Sean Murray (McGee from NCIS) was the one who physically played human Thackery. It was decided that his voice didn’t fit the vision for the role so he was dubbed over by Jason Marsden.
I cannot wait to watch the sequel! My favorite non animated Disney movie of all time!😍
Have you seen the crap they are doing lately? I would be cautious if I were you.
@@adrianrocha49 let people be happy
@@honestival Managing expectations is avoiding a let down. So I may not be making them happy, but I might be helping them avoid serious disappointment.
I'm scared of what they will make. Probably another "woke" monstrosity.
@@ScarlettM You mean Pinocchio, The Little Mermaid, Rings of Power were not cinematic masterpieces? How dare you? Are you racist or sexist? JK, I think you know why.
I wish I could just go “Booooooook” and summon my books. They lay around me for the moment.
Did you notice that the 3 girls who grabbed the witches' brooms looked like the witches if they were younger.
The "oven" is a ceramic kiln (used for heating clay to extreme temperature to change it on a molecular level to ceramic). It gets a LOT hotter than an oven. (Low fire clays are fired to almost 2000 degrees Fahrenheit.) As an art teacher that teaches ceramics, I would KILL for that kiln!!
I actually saw this on the big screen with my mother and aunt. They loved it to bits and watched it every Halloween. They are gone now and I miss them like crazy, seeing this just really hits the emotions. But I'll definitely watch the second one for myself and knowing how much they wanted to see a sequel. 🐾🐾🍻
At least you have great memories of them 🙂 Cherish those memories and your mother and aunt always be there.
I think the turning to stone was because of the Winnie touching the ground of the graveyard, whilst the explosion/turning to dust was because of the sun coming up.
14:41 exactly right.
The rule was that they cannot set foot on sacred ground
I wasn’t even aware that this movie existed until I went to Spirit Halloween 3 years ago. Now, I consider it a Halloween must watch
36:16 How much longer do you think it would've taken them to realise that they literally couldn't stop dancing?
The good news is that they'll probably be so exhausted from all that dancing that they'll sleep long enough for Max and Allison to come up with an excuse as to how the top of the house got destroyed
36:27 No worries, eventually Allison, Max and Dani will remember that they're there and will make an anonymous phone call, or someone will come by the house. Just leave them there a few hours to get a bit more of a lesson in humility
I still remember asking my mom what a virgin was when I was 8 years old because of this movie.
The actor who plays the kid, Thackery, is Sean Murray, who plays McGee in NCIS.
Also 'Satan' and his wife 'Madusa' are played by real life brother and sister Gary and Penny Marshall.
The actor playing Binx grew up to play McGee on NCIS.
Perfect timing on this reaction since the sequel is literally coming next weekend!
I absolutely love this movie. I can't wait for the sequel in a few days. I was just 2 years old when this movie came out and I own it now. Keep up the great work!
Fun fact: The kid who plays the human version of Thakery is Sean Murray, better known for his role on NCIS as Agent McGee.
I had celeb crush on him when I watched him on NCIS. When I read that he played human Thackery, I was like wow that was him.
The Devil was played by Gary Marshall & his wife was played by his sister Penny Marshall. Both are know as directors & actors for many famous films
Also Leonardo DiCaprio was given the role of Max & was offered a lot of money but turned it down because he was holding out for “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape” which he later starred in
It's funny that I was introduced to the film through HMV and Disney tributes, since then it's been my favorite Disney feature film of the time. I'll be waiting for the sequel. 🧙🏻♀️🧪🕯
6:43 I think the costumes were either originally a way to scare off the spirits or a way to blend in with the spirits so that they won't hurt them.
I believe that, in Ireland, people wore masks to scare away ghosts and demons!
Honestly. If I could live forever as a cat I wouldn't complain
For Halloween, consider 80s comedy:
"My Best Friend is a Vampire".
2:23 Children have been lured away by 'interesting' strangers before. Besides, turns out there's a bit of a deleted plot where we find out the Sanderson sisters make these special candy-crows to give to children and something they put in them activates when Sarah sings her song.
Found that out when some dedicated fans of the movie who have their own channel put it all together, Pattycake Productions: ua-cam.com/video/GAWA3_-4sgE/v-deo.html
They do something Hocus Pocus related nearly every Halloween, this playlist gives us 6 of their 9 Hocus Pocus related videos (not including their guest starring in 'Bump In the Night'): ua-cam.com/play/PLb7m3qWIfZviRvdecBP1iomfjF9nnzXOQ.html
Fun Fact: This film’s director, Kenny Ortega, directed Newsies (his first film) the previous year.
You should watch that too!
It’s criminally underrated!
😎
BTW, yes, that is the same Kenny Ortega who later created High School Musical!
*Kenny Ortega* was also the choreographer for films like _Pretty in Pink,_ _Ferris Bueller's Day Off,_ _Dirty Dancing,_ _Newsies,_ _Hocus Pocus,_ _Michael Jackson's This Is It,_ and _High School Musical._
You watched this one just in time for the sequel!
I also think that Billy’s good revelation was a nice plot twist.
I watch this movie every year and am so excited for the second one
It has been speculated that it takes longer to suck out Max's soul than it did Emily cos he's older and technically not a child, he's like around the same age Thackery was and back then 'teenager' wasn't a thing yet so once a kid hit a certain age, it was adultland we go.
There's also the fact that three of them were inhaling(?) Emily's at once.
The William Butcherson Zombie is the MVP of the movie.
I never realised it before, but the opening scene is very similar to the plot of Stardust lol (3 witches trying to consume a girl's life force to become young again).
I'd like to see Tim react to Stardust on the channel someday.
It's a good film w/ an impressive cast - Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert De Niro, Claire Danes, Charlie Cox, Ben Barnes, Sienna Miller, Mark Strong, Henry Cavill, etc.
Love this movie
Hocus Pocus has always been essential Halloween viewing for me along w/ the Addams Family.
Halloween Town and Twitches were also on the list lol.
Thanks, Timothée! 🧹 #TimotheeReacts #KennyOrtega #HocusPocus #DisneyPlus
Winnie was the only one who turned to stone because she stepped on sacred ground first.
I remember I was this movie way back in like '04, and I watched it at my aunt's house. I absolutely loved it
It Time for my Favorite Halloween movie 🧙♀️ 🧙♀️ 🧙♀️
Lets goo
20:30 - for some reason I thought that cat could only talk to children. That's why he couldn't communicate with his parents.
She Turned into Stone Because she Touch the Ground in the Graveyard
Just 1 more week left until the sequel! I AM SO EXCITED!
‘Hocus Pocus’ was a Disney Movie about 3 women not giving a toss about morality and rigid gender roles. Not the best topic for the ‘90s. It’s nice to see it as a cult classic.
The reason why max didn't smash the potion is because winnie threatened to kill his sister so he didn't have no Choice but to trade places with her which he did as a big brother but at the Same time the witches was running out of time because of the black flame candle which was keeping them alive was going out and winnie turned to stone because she landed on hallow ground while the other sisters didn't so when the candle went out and the sun came they blew up
🙈 Considering what he was thinking about, Dani might of learned a lot more about him than she wanted to! 🐈⬛. 😬
Dani INVENTED Savagery. She’d be a big hit on Twitter 😂
23.23, that is a pottery kiln, and yes some schools have them. We had one in my highschool for ceramics class, granted ours was smaller and I dont think it produced open flames, but bigger ones do. It's not a piece of equipment a school would typically brag about as Americans place little value in art, I only know we had one because I took ceramics.
I love your reaction to this, personally, as a child, I preferred this over The Witches 1990, because The Witches scared me as a child while Hocus Pocus did not scare me at all.
But great reaction and if you chose to, I can't wait for you to do a reaction to Hocus Pocus 2.
7:23 THERES NO WAY YOU CALLED THEM A POKÉMON NPCS IM DEAD 💀
I know that Bette Midler sings "I Put a Spell on You" at her concerts now. Two of her backup singers play Sarah and Mary.
“How much candy did you have”
“Mom I haven’t OD’D
IM sorry what
“There’s going to be a musical number”
It is Bette Middler and Sarah Jessica Parker singing and Kenny Ortega choreographing and directing. Of course there is going to be a musical number.
Bette Midler and Kathy Najimy are Comedy Icons. Sarah Jessica Parker adds a sense of fun and whimsy which is cute.
i missed this movie its a perfect halloween movie next to the nightmare before christmas i forgot all about this movie existing
Yesssss Hocus Pocus is the the shit, a true halloween classic
Releasing a reaction to a Halloween movie before October? 🤣
Awesome man
This movie is very 90s
A lot of nostalgia
Well the sequel comes out next week so that’s most likely why
@@duckielove2286 bingo
@@TimotheeReacts What a perfect way to celebrate this film's 30th anniversary in honor of the sequel as well as Disney's 100th anniversary at the same time.
It's already fall, it goes with the season.
8:22 Ernie and Jay remind me of the bullies from The Spy Next Door for some reason lol
i defend the 'I Put a spell on you" sequence. 1) the Sanderson sisters need to get most adults out of the picture, 2) they are shown at the begining that they use music for most/if not all spell casting and 3) if you're going to have Tony Award winner and beloved singer, the Divine Miss M in a movie and *not* have her sing at least 1 show stopping number, you're a fool!
In this movie we hear one of the most famous rendition of 'I Put A Spell On You', here are the other two most famous ones:
The original by blues singer Screaming Jay Hawkins from the 1950s: ua-cam.com/video/82cdnAUvsw8/v-deo.html
The version by the legendary Nina Simone from the 1960s: ua-cam.com/video/ua2k52n_Bvw/v-deo.html
I always thought it was odd that Max so willingly lit the black flame candle since the qualifications to light it is that you have to be a Vergin he just is basically openly admitting that
17:56 Speaking of dark stuff, I'm putting in a vote (even if it's for next halloween) for 'Something Wicked this Way Comes' (1983) and 'Don't Look Under the Bed' (1999).
Here's a few fun facts about this movie fun fact #1 Winnie's book & the Necronomicon Ex Mortis from The Evil Dead movies are both made of human skin fun fact #2 Mary's actress had a role in Disney's Descendants 1 as the Evil Queen fun fact #3 some people thought & some still think that Thackery's name is Zachary
Please watch THE NEVERENDING STORY.
Well now I feel like an idiot for demanding this movie when you were already planning on watching it 🤣
Well, this was back when Disney had balls and everything they made wasn't about pushing a narrative or sucking the old generation dry with bad remakes. Back then, I think they actually cared about telling good stories and everything they did, didn't go through the China filter. Those were the days.
i am just seeing this today and i was dying at how many times you screamed THE BOOK throughout the video
The devil and his wife were brother and sister in real life.
Definitely react to the sequel :)
Just in time for Pré-Halloween Celebrations AND the release of the Reboot.
23:19 It’s an incinerator. They’re Americans of German descent because they went all ‘Hansel and Gretel’.
I love how Mgcee is in this from NCIS!
Now this is a nostalgia trip, idk what it is but when it comes to holiday movies, Halloween movies just hit different for me
Winifred only turned to stone because she touched hallowed ground. Loved this reaction, looking forward to seeing you do the sequel!
I'm sure that for this movie they told the children that it was a serious movie, they told Winnie that it was a comedy, they told Mary to play an evil golden retriever, and to Sarah that she had to do a line ok coke before every take
Timothee great reaction like always Hocus Pocus has to be one of my all-time favorite Halloween movies and I can't wait for Hocus pocus 2 🎃🎃🎃
"Big Business" - a "twin" 80s comedy with Bette Midler and Lily Tomlin. Consider reacting!
To answer your question Winnifred would have killed Dani if he smashed the potion even if he didn’t she would’ve still killed her
i never believe there is ever a stupid question however when i heard someone asked if there was going to be a musical number when Bette Midler is on screen, i am sure if Bette Midler doesn't sing in the sequel there will be a riot
So excited for Hocus Pocus 2 and I hope you'll do a reaction video on the sequel when it comes out 😁🎃🎶😈
0:42, I was born on that exact day!
Pour Holy water on the bad book maybe melt-Looking forward H.P 2

“Oh look. Another glorious morning. It makes me sick!” - Winnie Sanderson. My favorite quote from the movie

Interesting fact I was Sarah sanderson for Halloween last year.
I would love a Hocus Pocus 2 reaction when it comes out. I think I've watched Hocus Pocus every year since i was 6 years old (since 1993 when it came out) and I'm 35 now.
