Also, Reminder that Ranks are more so for fun and aren't the most important thing when it comes to measuring skill in Tekken - You shouldn't get too stressed about it :). If you guys are struggling in the lower ranks and looking to Improve I made a video a while back giving some advice, I highly recommend it : ua-cam.com/video/gt-AobKd1Cs/v-deo.html
One thing that is different about ranked in 8 compared to 7 is when you demote, it doesnt send you halfway down in points in the lower rank, just puts you right at the cusp of promoting again. However, if you promo, you still get a point boost to be near the halfway point mark of the new rank. This pushes players to have an easier time promoting, and feel less discouraged by demoting. :)

I thought I was decent at Mighty Ruler. For some ungodly reason ranked put me in a match with Dustiel (Tekken God Supreme & at time of writing the top ranked Leroy in the world). Not a fun way to get demoted back to red, but it was a very valuable learning experience. :')
Quick match isn't bad I've played against greens, yellow, orange, red, and a tekken god. I'm currently flame ruler. I'll rematch oranges and yellows because when I was those ranks in T7 it helped me a lot.
Yeah! I've started with Jack first time in Tekken 8 now and I'm between Battle Ruler and Fujin overall, Ive been already Fujin but got demoted today, there where very many good fighters online today. Very much I've got still to practice!
I've been playing tekken for 2 weeks. I'm starting to play way less but taking a break helped me to reach Destroyer. Vanquisher was so far the biggest wall I've reached in this game or any kind of fighting games. I don't know if I should be proud but I think reaching garyu would be a pretty good milestone for someone that never played figthing games
Orange is solid for a completely new player. You should be proud. But dont identify with ur rank or wins and losses. See every game as an opportunity to improve because u will loose a lot
you will make it till Fujin very soon like me with my Jack first time, but Marduk Tekken King at Tekken 7. But from Battle Ruler and Fujin its a really stone hard way up!
I been playing tekken since 1995 and have been a yoshi main for 20 years or so,I’m stuck on tekken king. Struggling with Reina and Dragunov the most. Dragunov is insane in this version. Also a lot of you new kids are ranking way faster than I did back in the day so be proud
My friends tell me I'm good enough to play competitively but thats just because they don't play as much as I do, I made Garyu a few days ago and I figured, at least for now, that's it, that's the middle of the road, and seeing the stats confirmed it. I don't really lab, I don't really try to fight with the intent to win, I play because Tekken is one of my favorite games of all time, I just wanna see cool shit happening, whether I'm winning or losing, on screen and engross myself in the story. Thanks for the video!
Tbf, if you've been playing tekken for that long, you've probably naturally labbed so much stuff without knowing it, you'd have seen so many iterations of the same thing that you probably don't realise how well you naturally play by now.
@@thatyellowfellow Yeah, totally! But there's only so much I can learn on my own without looking anything up VS if I actually labbed, studied frames, punishes and whatnot. I'm a pretty reactive player so I suppose punishing comes a bit more naturally to me, but other than that, I'm as easy to read as they come. Still have a blast playing tho
I’m sort of the same, played a lot of T7 during lockdown and this game got to Flame Ruler without labbing. Both my friends and admittedly myself have said that if I labbed properly, I’d definitely get blue or higher. Labbing is everything!
I’ll say this tekken ranks hold a lot more weight than other games I’ve played for sure. As a Shinryu anytime I see a Purple rank I know they mean business and know it’s gonna be a scrap 😅 I don’t have a lot of knowledge on new characters and still figuring out weaknesses but once my game knowledge catches up I’ll win more.
I'd say blue ranks are about local level tournament play, with those in the tekken king - god ranks are national level tournament play, and the top two ranks tekken god supreme + god of destruction is on the global level. Though as time progresses a lot of national level players will still hit the top 2 ranks. This is just a gauge, because you can't actually compare tournament play to online ranked, it's a completely different game offline and the top level players will practice offline constantly against each other. The input latency difference between online play and offline play makes a major difference in the precision of your movement and ability to perform far tighter combo's / punishment inputs.
@@alanlavery No you don't, what you're basically saying is "If all these GoD players also played offline they could be on the same level as the tournament players" which is false.
Defo no, if you make it past 15 you are intermediate because that’s the hard cutoff point where scrub tactics no longer work. People not actually learning is why everyone is stuck in 15
Issue is if you just play a bunch of matches, you will get yellow by default. So its odd to say its where intermediate play starts. Maybe orange then, since it implies you can at least beat beginners consistently.
I just hit bushin on Bryan I’m so close to tekken king . Once I do that I am taking a long needed break cause this shit is like playing EVO every game . GOOD LUCK ON THE CLIMB BOYS

its way easier to do this time around ranks across the board are inflated due to the system now. also you dont lose points till warrior so that skews everything
It would be interesting if they had a stat of ranks per character. For instance, 50% of Tekken Kings are King players, etc. I’m curious to see the variety.
Assailant has been my highest so far, still trying to figure out who i want to play. Mainly been Jun so far, this is my first real attempt at learning Tekken.
I put a lot of Hours into t7 but i Was a heihachi main, with him out of the pictureit Took me forever to find out who im going to play. Tekken 7, you went by what color the person's NAME was and prowess points. There were A LOT of trash/string players in "Red Ranks". You weren't considered good until you hit purple/ blue ranks. Looks like it's pretty much the same as 7.
@@pookie7119it’s basically a player who still uses unsafe and full combo strings. You’re able to get away with it in lower ranks, but in higher ranks you’ll have to use portions of a string to stay safe/avoid punishment, and use them as a mind game to throw off your opponent. Higher rank play means learning to not do things that are unsafe that would make you lose a match against a more knowledgeable player
@@justinmour6928 Yeah, i think one of the biggest signs someone has no idea they're inexperienced, is using 10 hit combos regularly. It only works against people that know nothing about the character they come up against, and even then, it'll only work a few times before the defender starts to memorise the string and react better. I used to play tekken 5 and the CPU very quickly taught me to not even bother using a 10 hit string. It would just duck half the time and counter the early weak point.
Currently at Garyu, my goal is to get to the purple/ruler ranks (idk the actual name for it) as of the colors available purple is my fave color (since no lavender color exists) 💜 Best of luck to all in hitting their own T8 goals, ranked or not.
Just went on a 16 game win atreak and hit Fujin with Paul. Think I need to take a break though I played for like 6 hours last night and I haven't played any other games since tekken dropped lol
You should also make a video, reminding people that ranks are fun. And not to take it too serious hitting your limit at a rank should actually be looked as a good thing as that’s where the growth happens it’s OK to go up and down in ranks, because Tekken is not about win rate, It’s about having fun and long-term growth. Also, the mantra to get better learn from your losses and Tech is the best game that helps you do that because you can replay the match and literally see how you should react different in the future.
I just reached Garyu and I've been rather stuck in this one for a while, at first I felt kinda bad since I managed to speed throught every rank until that one, but now? I feel alright, maybe I just reached my skill ceiling and all I gotta do now is find other ways to improve, thanks for the vid man

This game is easier to rank up in compared to 7. 7 had more ranks and you werent going against scrubs alot compared to 8. I hit tekken god in 7 and that tooke me about 2 in a half years, yet in tekken 8 im at raijin in 2 weeks
@@pfuze_5775 Yeah I definitely felt it was easier also, I capped at Fujin in Tekken 7 after playing it on and off from launch (had to deal with a couple rank resets but I had 80% win rate at the end of it). I am late to the party but just a couple days ago I went from beginner to Garyu in about 3 hours with a 92% win rate. I'm pretty confident I could get back to Fujin in another 3 hours gauging how people are playing at this ranks and with only 3 to climb and a more forgiving derank system.
Raijin here 😎 Tbh blue ranks is where players start to apply some advanced concepts, like sidestepping way more often and ducking/punishment. I didnt feel like fujin was hard to overpass bc most of time players were like spamming some plus frame moves (but also linear moves) or doing some punishable stuff. Edit note*: after some training, im almost reaching tekken king (middle-end bushin) and its significantly harder imo
I've been playing like 10 matches a week and about to hit orange. The caliber player I was facing on release week compared to now is night and day. Its interesting to see stats like this for when i decide to actually grind.
As a fujin ill say ranks mean jack shit right now. Between pluggers, broken cheese and frankly it being easier to rank up than ever rank does not represent skill at all. Even the worst players can get up into high ranks if theyre willing to bash their heads into a wall for long enough. Sadly. Tekken 7 ranks meant a lot more and i truly hope they address this eventually with how the point gain system works.
@Boogard In tekken 7, my skill level sat somewhere between high reds to mid purples and in this game I stormed my way up to Fujin in 190 matches. Like, part of me felt a high to just burn through it so fast but then I also start to think about all the tech and skill sets I can't do yet and I can't help but think "man should I really be in this rank?" I start to watch what other players are going through and start to see buds I played with absolutely cheese their way to purples with Jun and I immediately realize "yea, ranked is all screwed up rn". Sure enough, a month passes and even pros start to comment on how easy it is to rank up. At the end of its life cycle, it wasn't unheard of for some red ranks to be doing tech you aren't seeing until tekken God in tekken 8. Kbd, high execution tech like pewgf and Bryan taunt etc. Now, I'm fighting purple ranks who I can just stand block because they only know snake edge and grabs with all their Unga bunga cheese not working since I can react to lows and grabs 🤣 its nuts man.
Never played a fighting game where people immediately decline rematch. Point system is weird some matches I lose 1800 points even if it’s first loss in 8 matches
Getting close to the orange ranks, been demoted once. Been happy with myself, since this is the first Tekken i've practiced in. Played Tag2 casually on Wii U, and 7 only a handful of times. Grew up with T4 and 5 though, love this series
Same for me, newcomer here, recently reached vanquisher with Law and Hwo, and trying out different characters. Couldnt choose my main yet. I like almost all of them.
Just pick a character that you're more comfortable with, I'd say Drag is better in terms of basics and is a pretty honest character even tho he's S tier ATM, as for Lars (i main him since T6) he's really stylish and satisfying with the stance switches but later It might be harder to switch to a more traditional character due things listed above.
@@spartanbbx1987 Yeah Lars is very cool and anime. But I feel like he is very stance dependant and his sequences are kinda flow chart-y. Also we are very vulnerable during stance transitions. Once the opponent figures this out and stops letting us transition between stances it gets tough. Dragunov is very cool as well. But I feel like he requires good movement skills and I am not there yet in terms of moving and dodging. Definitely a good character to teach me Tekken I feel like. Tekken for sure is a very hard game to learn but I am having fun learning new things each day.
@@spartanbbx1987 Yeah, i think that being comfortable and choosing a character you feel familiar with Is the most important thing, surely more useful than focusing too much on tier lists. Recently i've been having a fun time with Xiaoyu, i love her mix-ups, her deceitful low hits, and her fancy, provoking, dancing style. She Is probably not the easiest character to learn but i feel the playstyle fits me very well. Hope to get better soon.
Complete beginner to the fighting game genre here. I just mashed my way to assailant. It’s getting hard to win with mashing now, so I’m heading to dojo and looking up guides to learn some fundamentals.
I’m at dominator and have been 1 match away from orange a couple of different times haha. Definitely a small skill gap there already in my opinion but it’s making me learn more for sure. Honestly gonna be pretty excited to break into oranges eventually. Definitely have a long way to go and many tune ups but as my first Tekken where I’m playing ranked, it’s pretty fun.
From my pov I'd say Garyu is the scrub gate, everything avobe that is pretty decent. Ruller is respectable. Fujin is VERY respectable. And everything avobe Bushin is pretty much the same level of having no social or professional life but being really, really good at Tekken.
top 10% of players - "Now you're starting to figure things out" - I guess I''m just jaded but these folks seem so disconnected with reality as to what is easy and not.
Just keep it fun and remember it’s a marathon, not a race. Tekken, one of those games that you can keep growing slowly for weeks or months or years just however you want to do it just keep having fun and enjoy the journey.
I literally just promoted to mighty ruler on Devil Jin after picking him up for the first time ever and I couldn't be happier! Was stuck in red ranks for almost 3 weeks but I've learned a lot from experience and guides so I'm super stoked to keep learning and climbing lol
@@Boogard Well there's nothing wrong with knowing the stats and stuff like that. But you see what happens when people care TOO much about their rank, cords start getting unplugged.
This "no demote until yellow" is so bad. I remember Tag2 being stuck at green and damn vanquisher at the time looked awesome, byakoo was like 😱😱😱. Already in Tekken 7 everybody was mighty ruler, even if they don't know about frame data or punish, and now, you can be the worst player ever, but still hit warrior, Wich was an achievement at the time. That's so sad to me, orange red and post purple used to be the coolest
I just entered red rank this morning and I'll be entering purple tonight then by morning I'll be entering blue P.s if u want to know 🤔 ? pick rank match not lounge so there's no cool down period and perfect ur combos and executions in between matches keep grinding tekken warriors 💪 and soon we all will be tekken gods. A (L) means u need to learn from your mistakes break bad habits and keep pushing (accept all chase none)
From what I've seen, once you get to Red ranks, you either plateau or keep going, no one goes back. It's like the game doesnt want to let you. If you get demoted, you have an immediate chance to get promoted, and that promotion ensures you will still be Red (Garyu) even if you lose the next 4-5 matches. If you get demoted, you get promoted again... and the process resets.
That’s a good thing, it means your rank is a very accurate measure of your skill level. There won’t be any players that are in a rank they shouldn’t be in, you’re placed exactly where you should be.
They need to address pluggers and one and doners, otherwise there will be a mismatch between actual skill and ranks. There is also a visible inflation so that climbing gets progressively easier.
Just made it to mighty ruler with my main Bryan. My goal was to hit this rank when I started playing Tekken back in 2017. Feels really good having all that work finally pay off.
As a Tenryu player I can say that we are the Boarder of Tekken and TEKKEN ppl below me tend to mash and rush moves or spam and hide while ppl above me play with patience and precision they know frame trap, move properly, and put together combos

This is the first tekken game I was able to rap my brain around and understand how play. I’ve made it too red ranks and I’m happy to be able to play my favorite fighting game franchise.
I had to scratch & claw my way to get to Red ranks in Tekken 7's last 4 months. In the span of a month, I already got to the same ranks. Just a testament to how steep the competition got in 7 towards the end of its run. Also if you make it to Red ranks in 8, you definitely know your stuff. Tons of good players running around there.

I reached Mighty Ruler recently. When I reached Red rank, that's where the consistent options, stage-break extenders, wall combos and side-steps started to appear. Until around that rank, mistakes weren't as costly.
this is the first tekken i’ve taken serious and learned rather than just mashing buttons. i’ve played every tekken since tekken 3 but most of the time i just mashed buttons because i was a kid. right now im in yellow ranks hoping to get to orange im just having trouble because when i practice i know what to do. i know how to do all my combos and launchers but when i get into a game i get too nervous or flustered to remember what im doing and just end up mashing against opponents who also mash
I've been struggling to exit orange ranks for a while, mainly Vanquishor (the first orange rank). I would win 1 set then lose the next 10. I'd get all the way to the promotion match, then suddenly go on a losimg streak so bad that I get pushed all the way back to demotion. I finally got to Destroyer today but got demoted and re-promoted at 2-4 times. It's almost as if I'm not supposed to progress any further. It's really been infuriating
As a mighty ruler, i can say that the difference between red and purple ranks is that you have to know the matchup. If you are tenryu try to focus learning how to fight against every pg and rematch every time, even more when you get owned.
7:48 Maybe I’m missing something but you say that Tekken King is the “top 95% of players” while Tekken King and the rest of the ranks don’t add up to 1%, much less 5%
Tekken 8 has been my first Tekken game and basically only second fighting game (first one was GGST, not counting Smash) and im currently kinda stuck at Shinryu, but I honestly enjoy being "stuck" because the grind is what makes it even better imo, struggling against purple ranks makes me wanna learn more
Definitely one of the guys boosting the first red rank. Had to get some red on my name before i went to bed and will now insist on a long warm up in quick match before I push on again.
just hit garyu today...again lol ...my approach is to rematch every player and let every match be a learning experience, because if i get demoted, i will quickly go back up if i deserve the specific rank. if not i get free testing dummies on lower ranks
Thank you for this informative chart, it's an interesting topic. I'm in Garyu and for now at my plateau, trying to get better and learn new things while trying to have fun.
I stay at shinryu because high ranks are the worst kinds of players. First they DONT wanna rematch, after getting a win they dip. I win a match I go for a rematch next match against me they win and dip. Just to keep their points. They piss me off SO bad. Like what’s the point of a rematch button if you’re gonna leave? How am I supposed to learn the match when bots are dog water? And then there’s the disconnects ooooh my lord the amount of disconnect videos I see. Top ranked players are just so toxic. I’m at shinryu JUST for the name of the rank. It’s cool. But I don’t wanna move anywhere above that.
As a newer Tekken player, I'm glad Tekken 8 made a buffer zone where you can't demote for losing. For the first couple days I played the game, I ran into almost solely insanely good people who just weren't high ranked yet bc they just got the game and I'd get killed in one combo and couldn't do anything. I was getting rolled
there's an interesting point to make that most of the garyu (and mighty ruler) ranked players are probably not playing in that rank bracket. they are most likely playing alts in a lower bracket so they can still be like "oh yeah I'm in reds" or whatever bracket they've gotten to.
Imo everything before purple is beginner. Even at blue rank most people still have lot of improvement left to do before they are legit. Depends on char too. A fujin kaz and a fujin Victor are not going to be of equal skill
What rank are you guys at so far?
Also, Reminder that Ranks are more so for fun and aren't the most important thing when it comes to measuring skill in Tekken - You shouldn't get too stressed about it :). :)

it's like me getting demoted by blue rank players even though im not even a red rank yet lol
Seems to me matchmaking still needs work.
If you are on default settings it's +/-3 ranks preferred. You can set it to +/-2 only.

Bro happened to me as well, im at tenryu fought a tekken god kuma, made me like a practice dummy 😂
The reason there’s so many people stuck in red, is they’re all hiding in quickmatch afraid of being demoted
Or in practice mode learning the matchups so they can progress further.
Quick match isn't bad I've played against greens, yellow, orange, red, and a tekken god. I'm currently flame ruler.
I'll rematch oranges and yellows because when I was those ranks in T7 it helped me a lot.
for me its not that reason, I lose and win, but getting stuck at red
Yeah! I've started with Jack first time in Tekken 8 now and I'm between Battle Ruler and Fujin overall, Ive been already Fujin but got demoted today, there where very many good fighters online today. Very much I've got still to practice!
I made it to mighty ruler i usually go to quick match after i practice to warm me up for ranked its a solid routine for me
I've been playing tekken for 2 weeks. I'm starting to play way less but taking a break helped me to reach Destroyer. Vanquisher was so far the biggest wall I've reached in this game or any kind of fighting games.
I don't know if I should be proud but I think reaching garyu would be a pretty good milestone for someone that never played figthing games
Keep climbing and youll get there eventually😂
Orange is solid for a completely new player. You should be proud. But dont identify with ur rank or wins and losses. See every game as an opportunity to improve because u will loose a lot
you will make it till Fujin very soon like me with my Jack first time, but Marduk Tekken King at Tekken 7. But from Battle Ruler and Fujin its a really stone hard way up!
For a new tekken player be proud of yourself. Ranks aren’t the end all be all so keep your chin up, keep climbing and learn as you go :)

I been playing tekken since 1995 and have been a yoshi main for 20 years or so,I’m stuck on tekken king. Struggling with Reina and Dragunov the most. Dragunov is insane in this version. Also a lot of you new kids are ranking way faster than I did back in the day so be proud
They have so much access to information starting out and a lot of new games ranking systems make it easier to progress
Fellow Yoshi main here! Recently reached Purple and been getting my ass kicked. Any tips?
I’m struggling with Reina as well to stay in Red rank
Yeah Dragunov in Tekken 8 complements the aggressive style of the game.
Thanks for the video!
who do you main
@KIRI77 Dragunov, been playing him since T5:DR. I'm thinking about other characters to pick up tho

@@vaper8824 Nice!!
I get what you mean but that’s not really how it works buddY. There’s really no comparison

I'd argue yellow, orange, and red is intermediate play because of how the bell curve works.
Defo no, if you make it past 15 you are intermediate because that’s the hard cutoff point where scrub tactics no longer work. People not actually learning is why everyone is stuck in 15
Id say its a little skewed because of how early the game is atm, I've played beginner and yellow ranks that play at like a red rank level
if u are below tenryu, you are bad, period
Issue is if you just play a bunch of matches, you will get yellow by default. So its odd to say its where intermediate play starts. Maybe orange then, since it implies you can at least beat beginners consistently.

You weren't considered good until you hit purple/ blue ranks. Looks like it's pretty much the same as 7.
whats a string player?

Tbh blue ranks is where players start to apply some advanced concepts, like sidestepping way more often and ducking/punishment.
The math is way off on these, but it is nice to see a breakdown of the ranks
As a fujin ill say ranks mean jack shit right now. Between pluggers, broken cheese and frankly it being easier to rank up than ever rank does not represent skill at all. Even the worst players can get up into high ranks if theyre willing to bash their heads into a wall for long enough.
Sadly. Tekken 7 ranks meant a lot more and i truly hope they address this eventually with how the point gain system works.
100% True especially with the plugging issue people can just never lose if they plug every time they are about to lose a match
@Boogard In tekken 7, my skill level sat somewhere between high reds to mid purples and in this game I stormed my way up to Fujin in 190 matches. Like, part of me felt a high to just burn through it so fast but then I also start to think about all the tech and skill sets I can't do yet and I can't help but think "man should I really be in this rank?"
I start to watch what other players are going through and start to see buds I played with absolutely cheese their way to purples with Jun and I immediately realize "yea, ranked is all screwed up rn".

There is also a visible inflation so that climbing gets progressively easier.

this is the first tekken i’ve taken serious and learned rather than just mashing buttons. i’ve played every tekken since tekken 3 but most of the time i just mashed buttons because i was a kid. right now im in yellow ranks hoping to get to orange im just having trouble because when i practice i know what to do. i know how to do all my combos and launchers but when i get into a game i get too nervous or flustered to remember what im doing and just end up mashing against opponents who also mash
Maybe you're nervous during promotion.
Don’t worry about rank just enjoy the journey
Currently at Mighty Ruler with Jin and it’s a true mental game from that point on. Strings, juggles, and bound combos kinda matter less.
I got to Fujin in T7, now I'm struggling to get out of purple 😭 I'm at flame ruler but get bouncing back and forth between mighty ruler
As a mighty ruler, i can say that the difference between red and purple ranks is that you have to know the matchup. If you are tenryu try to focus learning how to fight against every pg and rematch every time, even more when you get owned.
I been kinda stuck at Dominator, gotta keep pushing!
7:48 Maybe I’m missing something but you say that Tekken King is the “top 95% of players” while Tekken King and the rest of the ranks don’t add up to 1%, much less 5%
Yesterday i failed my Fujin promotion, sadboihours
Tekken 8 has been my first Tekken game and basically only second fighting game (first one was GGST, not counting Smash) and im currently kinda stuck at Shinryu, but I honestly enjoy being "stuck" because the grind is what makes it even better imo, struggling against purple ranks makes me wanna learn more
Definitely one of the guys boosting the first red rank. Had to get some red on my name before i went to bed and will now insist on a long warm up in quick match before I push on again.
Basically if you get over the red ranks your stepping into expert area.
Orange feels like the first filter. New to Tekken and its the first rank where people are blocking my strings fully, ducking and side stepping
just hit garyu today...again lol ...my approach is to rematch every player and let every match be a learning experience, because if i get demoted, i will quickly go back up if i deserve the specific rank. if not i get free testing dummies on lower ranks
The reason why garyu is so high is because everyone want that dragon title card (as well maybe the trophy for platinum)
You get the trophy at Vanquisher
awesome video man
Thank you for this informative chart, it's an interesting topic.
Im a Tekken King & im proud of myself that i achieved that goal & be in gold ranks now . I was at Raijin in Tekken 7
Who do you use ?
Nina , shes been my main since Tekken 7
@@stepfonwestcott709 the game is definitely not balanced. You can't knock certain ppl out their heat waves , some you can. Unbreakable, frames traps
@@bobbyonasis yea thats is true , i encountered that alot in the game but shud be nerfed in upcoming update tomorrow , some balance patches coming.
Tekken 8 is my first Tekken game & currently in Warrior rank & I've started spending more time practice polishing up my combos
there's an interesting point to make that most of the garyu (and mighty ruler) ranked players are probably not playing in that rank bracket. they are most likely playing alts in a lower bracket so they can still be like "oh yeah I'm in reds" or whatever bracket they've gotten to.
Imo everything before purple is beginner. Even at blue rank most people still have lot of improvement left to do before they are legit.
Depends on char too. A fujin kaz and a fujin Victor are not going to be of equal skill
