- A how to guide on replaceing front wheel bearings. on a 2004 Nissan Maxima.
Be sure and let me know if you need any help or any specific videos. I work on alot of different models daily. - Навчання та стиль
Fought this bearing all evening, started to doubt if I was doing it right. Thanks for posting this video! I know I'm on the right track, it's just fighting me.
Thanks! I called about 7 different places for the part and got quotes from $40 to $190! Co-worker overheard me, then said spouse was a mechanic, and she got it for me for $30!! I sure wish phone service and cable were like auto parts!, Thanks again!
Just went through this, and the car's now running great. Though we ran in to some problems. Here's what happened: 2002 Nissan Maxima, MT. Driver's side wheel bearing change.
1) Axle nut was stuck on, even the dealer couldn't remove it. Had to break it in to pieces, ended up getting a new Reman Axle as threads were ruined ($60 / autozone).
2) Installed new bearing, hub, and axle. Needed professional help just for the bearing/hub press part.
3) Driving on it. Wooo!!! Thanks for your help!
Thank you so much for this video! I noticed you kept threatening to use a press, I'm glad that you didn't because most people don't have presses. I have to replace my wheel bearing on my 97 Nissan Pickup. The shop wanted 225.00 to do it + 79.99 for an alignment. So I will be attempting this soon. I hope I don't break anything! LOL!!
Very helpful info you saved me over 170.00 just for the labor the bearing cost 52.00 just for one wheel so thanks a lot.for people who like doing this kind of work and save money especially with today's economy better than reading books.
Great job on showing how to do this job at home using simple tools.
Very Cool Instructional piece on front end bearing replacement. You should have your own show, you are so good, serious.
Thanks very much,
chad
Your awesome! The fact you didn't use your tools is the best part not everyone can afford them 👌🏾
Excellent video! Couldn't have been any more clear or lacking any details. Thanks very much for posting, I have yet to try this method and I'm hoping it will be this easy for me to get done and save a few dollars from not having to go to the machine shop!
excellent video- about to tackle this job on a mitsubishi (looks exactly the same steps and layout as your Nissan) and was trying to figure out how to do this without a press ! Thank you - saved the day!
6:23 thank you brother. I just bought my brothers maxima and he thought it was a bad axle but it was a broken wheel knuckle. I got one off a 4 banger 05 altima but the center hub was smaller in diameter. I had to take off that center hub and your video saved me $250.
As a tech I found that freezing the bearings they go in much easier,I always put my bearings in the freezer before install, and I always use royal purple grease...
Yeah I agree I do the same thing,, heat up the wheel assembly and freeze the bearing and drop it in..
Wow, love your video. Never done this before but want to try. Thanks for showing the small how to's and close ups. Just enough, not too much. Have a great voice too.
Thanks so much.
Nice job buddy. Good tutorial for those unfamiliar. Used to do it this way when I was younger. I'm glad to have my shop press and tools to make the job easier and faster. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks alto for doing the video. this is my first time working on a foreign car and I had NO idea how to do this. You clip showed all needed! I have also used your "Old Socket" method for removing the race ways when doing bearings on a Chevy in the 70's. Thanks again for taking the time on video.
thanks for the lesson I just got schooled! I just did this with a press, you did it with wood and hand tools. 🙌💪
Never stop learning
LoL
10:14 - "N' I'm own'a SCCHMACK it"
Subscribed just for that reason. Thanks for the video/time/info.
Thank you so much! I had to replace my wheel hub because Walmart torqued out two of my bolts. This is exactly what I needed to figure out how to repair them
for 2 days now ive been looking for info on this! i have a 06 escape and im doing my front wheel bearing got a bearing race kit from pepboys should of went to advanced auto much more loaner tools! i stil have that middle part in knuckle gonna try to get that out now than see what on the hub after might have to cut it like you did i dont have a puller! Great job man
Family day today involved putting new bearings in our 02 Maxima. Your video saved us money and made schmacking lol the new bearing in fun. Thanks for your help!
One of the best videos I've seen!! Clear detail by detail your awesome dude thank you bunches..
Dude - Thanks for taking the time to detail this out. I'm replacing the hub and bearing along with the lower tie rods and anti-sway bars. Dealer was asking some outrageous price for just the single bearing and lower rods. $1200. Fuggedabouditt!
Hey Thanks for posting this lost my manual. stuff like this could spoil me great illustrations . and I appreciate it
Thanks for the video. I had to do this on my 01 Maxima. Came back to my computer multiple times to re watch the video as I went thru the steps. Valuable info!
Great videos man. Its funny because I have the same issues you do, as soon as my car starts acting up I search your videos and there it is. I had an issue with rear bearings as well, couldn't figure out which side. Turns out both sides were bad. Replaced, note my car no longer sounds like I have mud grip off road tires. Thanks for doing this the hard way, you convinced me to buy a $50 press off craigslist which made it way easier.
Thanks for the video, it actually worked for my 99 nissan altima. Hardest thing was trying to find a pipe to push the bearing out. This saved me so much money - thanks
You're just what the doctor needed! You're something else! Man can you teach good. You have made my day!!!! I needed this video like people need the sun. Man oh man am I thankful for this video. I wish I could have seen you use a shop press. I have one. I just wanted to see how you would use it. This is good. Real Good! Thank you Sir! You're looking good for sure!
Awesome man. Well done and extremely helpful. I got mine completely disassembled and couldn't get the tie rod. I put it back together and started licking my wounds feeling completely defeated. Didn't think it was a good idea to hit it and didn't see the little boss area. REDEMPTION! Thanks.
LoL
holy shit your video helped me so much i was getting pissed at the one on my 05 maxima i was about to take it in and get pressed in but you are the man give you alot props great how to
I love the way you explain in detail. Great video, thanks for the help.
Thank you a lot , this video helps me to understand about whole process.
thank you buddy.
badass video dude... helped me alot... I got stuck on that center piece and could not get mines out ...works your way
Thanks so much for the video. My 06 nissan altima was the same. The only difference,i didn't have the censere to take off.Very helpful, learning experience for sure.
Dude you saved my ass and my wallet! Thank you for your time and knowledge! You rock!
Well done. Thanks for explaining remove and install the bearing without a press.
Great video. Just got done replacing my bearing. Not very hard. Just a lot more work without a press.
Dude, you are awesome. Well taught and great angles. Thank you. You Sir, ROCK !
"thank you Niiissawn" thanks for the tips my man!
such a good video man went step by step just what i was looking for
Great Video. I have a 2006 Maxima and followed your video. Came out Great. Thanks
Respect... I also had to replace the wheel bearing on my 02 Maxima, but I couldn't get the bearing out, ended up having a garage do it.
Thank you this video helped me out a lot especially when you don't have a press thanks bro
This video was excellent. Thank you so much for making it.
Thanks man.
Thanks for your time and knowledge!
You have really good skills, and teaching ability thank you for the shared knowledge .
Good stuff for those of us without a press! I wonder if a table top arbor press would do this job. Also, good info for my 2002 Altima.
I'm not sure if that would work or not. Let us know if it did. I have a standard shop press but showed how to do it without one.
amazing how time goes by and these vids still can contribute to the communities.
I'm fixing my 97 and it is basically the same steps but I'm asking myself if do i need to add grease before the grease seals ..
anybody ??
Thanks just finished up mine reassembling now, Ended up using harbor freight 30mm to drive inner bearing out, then used gearwrench 2-1/8 for the larger bearing, had to hammer the gearwrench socket once or twice on each snap ring to break the rust on the loose, then used autozone rental axle socket 36mm to hit on the focal point to drive the hub back in, though a 37 would probably had been nicer..
Great video! I have a bad bearing in my 07 Maxima and I try to stay away from paying other people to do work on my cars but when I realized I need a press I had no clue when I would have it fixed...until I found this video!!!! Now I only have to buy the bearing instead of the whole hub assembly. Thanks!
You sir have saved me so much money!! Thank you
Very informative video/description - Thank you! What torque did you use for the castle nuts on the ball joint and tie rod end respectively?
Very informative video!! Thanks
Very well done man. Also I have the same car but and 2005!
this video is awesome man ! i dont even have a maxima and i watched the hole damn thing !
That was a very helpful video for people who don't have a press
Thank you for your kind comment .
Like he said using the old bearings races as a punch is great save old races for jobs in the future. Once you have a few cut a notch all the way through so if you have to pound something through a sleeve they have a little room to contract and are easy to remove after using it as a punch.
Muy bueno me sirvió al 100000% ya que yo no cuento con herramienta especial como prensa o algo parecido GRACIAS por el video
Muchas gracias
this is video is really good now when there’s not a good source for these with the bearing already installed
Great video. Helped me with a 2005.
I need to do mine. Thanks so much for this video.
This is an excellent video, thank you very much
Thank you , you saved me lots of money
Thanks so much. I really appreciate it - an you did such a great job!
Excellent Video and instruction
great video! Already got the nuckle off took about 10 mins starting on the rest tomorrow. dont have press but i got a car lift and many other mechanical tools, thought about getting my porta-power and welder and make would be press if you will. But that will be if i fail when i ( and i quote ) "shmack it" Thanks again
This guy is a pro !
@Tylanta1999 It can actually be removed from the front or rear. You just have to position it to where there is enough room for the bearing to clear opon removal by proping up the assembly.
So you actually hit the inside race. My bearing was stuck so bad i had to cut it out of the nuckle cuz it broke a 6ton press but now I need to put the bearing back in. So you put the the adaptor right on the race. The hub underneath n hit the adaptor a. It pushes the hub up into it??
Excellent, helped me a bunch, thanks!
Need to get axle boot replaced, wheel hub, and barrings, n e suggestions...
Thanx...
The WD in WD-40 stands for water displacement . It will not "eat metal" but due to the thinness of the fluid it makes for a great substance to aid in the install. It should not be used as a lubricant, again due to the thiness of the actual fluid.
Thanks for the praise ! Have a gooden !
I did it and it was nearly perfect. Only exception - I cheated and used a press fit machine my friend had. I could not beat that hub out with 2,000,000 hits. I got worn out. Luckily it was free to use the press fit. I'm doing the hub on the other side now. Thanks again!
That was awesome! Thanks man.
I've watched this over and over I got it now that's what you did, right. You hit the inner ring because its the other inner ring is being supported by the hub!!! Got thanx for the video. I shouldn't need to do it but shit happens right.
I have a 2002, would it be the same process?
Muchas gracias ahora si a cambiar mis baleros de mi automovil explicaste muy bien👍 y no es muy dificil lo hisiste sin un pres 👌
Nice video! I have to do mine on a altima 99 , and I was wondering if the process will be the same?
Thanks for the tip. Much appreciated!
hey i have the same car but i been hearing alot of road noise from the wheels front an rear any advice
2012nugget.. once you get the new bearing installed into the knuckle assembly and everything is ready to be put back together.. how do you get the male part of the hub into the inside race of the new bearing??
Will removing the brakes as shown require the brake lines to be flushed and refilled? I've seen videos describing the method for changing pads, and it appears that reseating the caliper piston forces out brake fluid, requiring the whole system to be flushed.
Doing this job and placing the same pads back on, will I be met with any issues?
When u go to put the hub back in do u just tap it back in the new bearing race?
Great video greatly appreciated
what type of front wheel bearing does a 2007 Nissan maxima need??
@2012nugget great video! Just one question: when lubricating the hub b4 installing the new bearing, can u use axle grease or wd-40?? Thanks man, never dun this before, so need to knw b4 lunging forward!!
Would a 2001 Nissan Maxima be similar to this?
Is this beginning part of this video also the same for removing cv axle. Is there any problems or things I will run into when I replace the cv axles in a 2004 maxima. Thanks
Will this be the same steps to perform for a 2000 Nissan Maxima as well?
hello friend Might you tell me what steps has the bearing is 76 mm outer and 42 mm inner and 35 mm and 38 mm??
Nice vid man....thanks for sharing
Great Video. Used it today to get bearing out of a 2008 Hyundai Sonata. One question. Can a bearing be bad/noisy but not really appear to be damaged once you get it apart?
i wish i would have seen your comment earlier. i took it to a shop and the guy used a press machine and i kept telling him that the bearing was in all the way but he disagreed and kept pressing till he broke my spindle. the area where the tie rod goes in. now i have to buy another spindle... do you think i should not mess with the used spindle im buying or should i change the bearing on the used one im getting?
Any recommendations on where to get this done?
thank's man good video it really help me i'm going to save $100. to $300.
GREAT VIDEO!! WOW, YOU KNOW YOUR STUFF!! I'D TRADE MY COLLEGE DIPLOMA FOR THAT KNOW HOW ANY DAY! THANKS FOR SHARIN'.
Hey nugget I have an 04 Maxima like your working on and my shop did the same thing you did but they had the press that you mentioned. Now I have got the job done because my wheel bearing was making the metal to metal sound.. Now that I have change the wheel bearings but I'm hearing some light noise from my passenger side now.. Might I need to adjust my brakes or could it be a bad hub being that I only changed my wheel bearing..?? Get back and thanks in advance..
I got a nisan maxima 97 and I need to change the front wheel bearing, is is the same procedure?
I OWN A 1998 NISSAN MAXIMA..DO THEY HAVE THE SAME WHEEL BEARINGS AS 04..I DONT HAVE A PRESSER MACHINE...WOULD IT BE EASY IF I BOUGHT THE SPINDLERS,,,,
@hp11208 Yeah it's a good idea to put the nut back on the axle a little, loosen it then remove the nut, that will straighten the threads if you hit them.
