      Which engine oil did you put in, and does is consume a bit of oil?

    • @OpenLogicEFI
      @OpenLogicEFI  2 роки тому +5

      Thanks! Synthetic 5w-30. It consumes a little oil because of the ring gap just like any boosted engine. Basically by the time the oil change (5000miles)ish is due it 1/2 quart low.

      @@OpenLogicEFI I wasn't certain whether you used the new type of pistons which have extra lube holes drilled, or the old type. The new type of pistons Toyota released sometimes in 2004, in order to rectify the common oil consumption issue. But anyway, I am impressed with your work.

      @@aleksandarnesic8908 oh sorry. Yes, it's the later pistons. With added ring gap for excessive heat expansion from the boost.

    Very nice man, been thinking about doing up my little 02 Rolla, been a faithful car for over 10 years and need to show it some true love, found a nice outback (Yeah i am Aussie) stretch just to see what she is capable stock, she hit 215Kmh (133mph) near redline in 5th gear, not looking for crazy power and been contemplating going one of those Rotrex superchargers over a turbo (because i don't trust my feet and a turbo would bait to easily), just wish i had half the tools you have!

      Detonation yeah have given my little 1zz a fair bit of punishment over the years, but approaching 200 000kms (124k miles ish) i am going to need a full rebuild if i do anything to it, been eyeing off monkey wrench racing in america for parts because any shop i asked about doing up here said it would be hard to get parts, took me 20seconds to find mwr! So my plan is get the parts and find a good shop that doesn't mind i got the parts even if they charge more, my hardest decision is do i get another IM (2zz with plate or get one fabbed, not much space under the bonnet for sc, actually waiting on a mate to do up a 3d printed dummy of the rotrex, he has to design from scratch, to see where i will fit it, with stock IM), bonus with going for rotrex i don't really need an IC so i can run shorter piping. But the question i seem to run dry on an answer for is "can i run the TB and MAF before the Charger so i don't need a blow off valve?" because they consider them a cause of pollution here in Australia (ikr compressed air is pollution lol)

      What's the status of your MR2? Did you get it running again? I did the cat to down pipe and exhaust manifold swaps with MWR racing parts to alleviate pre-cat failure, but my engine was burning a quart every 30 miles and eventually blew. Now I'm doing all the research on a 1ZZ swap.

    I have a question though...
    How did you wire the fic? I ended up ditching the fic because of the wiring and the tuning... just got a power fc for my boosting needs. which is pretty amazing :)
    and did you use 03 Pistons? I know the 02 and lower have smaller oil drain holes which a lot of people agree is the reason why they break :(
    again great work and hope to hear back from you! check out my boosted mr2 spyder ;)

      C&R Garage : Thanks! I appreciate it.. Fic is a pain in the ass to tune but after some work with the o2 map we got it ok. We are actually splicing in a megasquirt this winter.. I purchased the pistons long before I realized I made the mistake of getting the wrong year so I modified them by drilling out the holes to lubricate the ring properly..

    Hey Aaron. How did the 1zz hold up with the stock rods? I have always worried about my stock connecting rods . I was actually communicating with a guy from track-group-dot-com just today as they work on the 2ZR engines for the Lotus Cup cars. He assured me that Lotus does nothing to the stock internals of the 2ZR before strapping on and tuning the Magnusun supercharger. I guess that's rated at ~220 bhp, but revs higher and has a perfect tune. I see that there are performance outfits that offer upgrade packs for the supercharged Lotus 2zr cars, pushing them up to 285 hp, still with stock internals. I'm still very happy with the performance of my Yaris, but feel a little more confident now about upping the boost a touch, maybe to 10 psi. I built and installed my own water/methanol injection system. If I could reach around 200 whp, I'd be quite satisfied, I expect. Interested in hearing more about your turbo 1zz. Anything you can tell me would be great! Still entertaining the idea of a forged build for either my 1NZ or a 2ZR. Thanks!

    Heya! Doing a Celica GT head swap on a 1zz Matrix; thanks a bunch for the video inspiring; had a question do you feel the intake/exhaust porting was beneficial? if so any tips/guidance to porting them? anything you would do different? TIA!

    • @OpenLogicEFI
      @OpenLogicEFI  3 роки тому +2

      I am not the best example for the port job I really just did what your doing and watched videos and gave it a shot. After said and done I'm happy with it though! It definitely made a difference. Easiest way I was able to tell actually was when I blew a boost pipe and it was back to NA. It was allot better especially up high in the Rev range. Tips, I'm no expert. I started with gasket matching to get the port size and went from there. Made each grind and cut the same in every port then knife edged the split. The only other thing I can say is don't "Polish" the ports. With boost you want extra surface area for heat dissipation. Tiny scratchs and scrapes you leave behind make a huge difference with dissipating heat. Absolute perfection is not necessary and definitely not beneficial. Good luck!

      Usé los pistones y anillos originales. Ellos y las cañas pueden manejar alrededor de 250-260 HP con una buena sintonía. Más que eso, necesitará internos forjados.

    I got a 1zz in my 00 GT the engine hasn't failed but it burns oil has a popped head gasket on cyl1 (blows out behind the block no oil or coolant cross contamination lucky me) and rattles something really nasty up top this video inspired me to do a rebuild I wish I had a compatible turbo laying around any tips or recommendations? 225k miles.

    Can't find an estimate on rebuilding one. Mines definitely knocking. Faint right now but it's getting worse and I can smell metal friction up hill. Would it be cheaper to have motor rebuilt 'NOT BY ME' or swapped with a reman one or salvaged? Any ideas? Not estimates but experience based knowledge!!

    • @OpenLogicEFI
      @OpenLogicEFI  Рік тому

      Unless it's a race engine and/or you have the capability to build it yourself in almost all cases a salvage yard engine will be the cheapest option. More expensive but still cheaper would be a remanufactured engine.
      Of all the engines I've swapped for customers or myself over the years I've had very good luck with well researched salvage yard engines. Check out car-part.com if you're in the US. It's a listing of available parts in salvage yards across the country.

      @@OpenLogicEFI if it's just the block, should be able to just reconnect all the other stuff? How much time should it take a GOOD shop to swap out engine? Seems like a straightforward job for a professional, not Really much to take apart.

    • @OpenLogicEFI
      @OpenLogicEFI  Рік тому

      @@remissiveslave You would want to buy the whole engine. Something we call a long block. Anywhere the oil flows such as the cylinder head, etc. Is compromised because of the metal flowing through it. But yes, anything on the outside of the engine that's working will be swapped over to the new long block. That's part of an engine swap.
      For a good mechanic this specific engine swap is very straightforward. Don't get me wrong, an engine swap is hard work no matter what it is. It's still 6 to 10 or more hours worth of work.

      Camille David 2zz is very different than the ones 1zz, the 2zz also does not mind boost. Google "monkeywrench racing" you'll find everything you need to boost your 2zz.. I am sorry I'm not as familiar with the 2zz..

      Three main areas to address when turboing a 2zz. Would be a good idea to lower the compression to 10:1 if possible. Would also be a good idea to replace the oil pump gears with billet and add ARP rod bolts. The oil pumps have been known to explode at high rpm and the rod bolts are a bit weak for boost.
      Also change out the lift bolts pretty much anytime you have the valve cover off. Theyre prone to breaking, esp. the rounded OEM ones. They're cheap insurance to replace but a bitch if they break off. I know, my spare 2zz has that problem.

    Wonder how easy this would be on a 2ZZ-GE Celica. Probably put the money towards a cold air intake and baffled oil pan to help prevent oil starvation first.

    • @rcflight13
      @rcflight13 6 років тому

      Ah, thanks for the advice. Bought my GTS a few months ago as a non starter. Spent a few hundred on it replacing the shot cooling system and cleaning the OCV, unfortunately my new larger competition grade radiator meant that the air box needed to be moved back ever so slightly so it's now hot zip ties holding it in place.
      If I could figure out how to fit the supercharger they use on the Lotus Elise and Evora with the 2ZZ that'd be interesting but probably better off leaving it NA for now.

    • @hippopotamus86

      I thought turboing the 2zz was a big no no as the compression is higher? I thought it was better to start with the 140. I have 2ZZ-GE and was temped, but put off by what others have been saying and instead turboed an IS200.
