Thank you for the lovely compliment, it really makes my day. Good work on tackling the maintenance yourself. While you are doing this type of work I'd recommend the following. 1. When fitting the intake manifold gasket. Some PH neutral soap like Fairy liquid make help put the gasket 17171-22030 in place if needed. 2. While you have the intake manifold out I'd spray crab cleaner down each of the 4 small plastic intakes on top and wipe down any excess black carbon with a microfiber cloth. Do the same for the main part of the intake manifold on the side that connects to the throttle body. 3. While you have the intake manifold out, spray carb cleaner all over the inside of the throttle body and wipe away the black carbon. This will improve airflow into the engine. Use your hand to open and close the throttle manually. Ensure the spray doesn't touch the MAF sensor. 4. Finally, I'd consider changing the throttle body Idle Air Control Valve Gaskets while you have these parts out. I've a video coming on this in a few weeks time so keep an eye out. Parts are: TOY-22215-7A680 You need to remove 3 or 5 Philips Head screws in the throttle body. And the I.A.C.V essentially pops out in 2 parts. Hello! First of all - great video I’ve got an E120 (e12 5 door) with the same engine (4ZZ-FE) and have a few questions. I’ve managed to source a celica 2002 throttle body and inlet manifold , part numbers all match up. Regarding the wiring of the TPS - you say you can source the male connector from the celica loom to then plug the wires into - if i cannot source one of these what do i do? Also - what size diameter is the silicon hose if you or anyone else knows? Did you give the inlet and throttle body a comprehensive clean before you put them on too?
Hi thanks for the compliment much appreciated. I can help you out a lot I think. So first thing is first. I've never done this mod on a E12 but the process should be 90% the same. A good friend of the channel has bought the 1zz male TPS connectors from Aliexpress. The part links are in the description. They worked perfectly for him. He hand wired his 4zz TPS loom into that connector. The Airbox pipe diameter I used for an E11 was 76mm in diameter. This was a perfect size for the 1zz throttle body. On the Airbox size it was a little loose. But a simple Hose clamp worked perfectly to seal it tight to my airbox. Finally, yes I comprehensively cleaned the Throttle Body, IACV, and Intake Manifold before install. I recommend doing it if you have the time. My car honestly ran like a new car after, I think it made a difference. Follow me on hobtec_cars Instagram and message me there for any further help I can give.
I’ve sent you a message over on instagram. I’ve managed to source a male plug for the tps from a celica. However is the idle air control valve plug changed at all or will that be the same as what is on my car already?
@charlienevin293 I sanded it with 1000k grit sand paper, used plastic primer of a white colour. Finally used Toyota Super Red 3e5 as the colour on top. Used a laquer then to seal it all in then
Hi, for the first 200 miles fuel consumption was up maybe 10%. But once the ECU learns the modifications I actually had a fuel economy increase of about 3%. I was achieving about 43mpg to 44mpg with the 1zz parts.
I found it actually improved my mpg by 0.5mpg. I think its because everything was cleaned going in like the throttle body and intake manifold. I had a nice system where I'd a CAI intake into factory airbox which helped too. It depends on how you drive. But no drastic change to MPG eitherway
Helloo, great video and modification, but what type of water cooler you have? With the factory cooler there is no enough place for the main cooler hose, so I can't do this mod.
Thanks for the compliments. Not sure what you mean by water cooler? I am running the standard cooling system on the E11 Corolla. The Radiator hose from the radiator to the engine will fit fine, it is a little tight, but I promise it is fine.
Great question. No problems with the NCT. The cars emissions were perfect after the modification. I drove this car for another 3 or 4 years after these mods with no issues. As for insurance I went about it the legally correct way. I got a SIMI approved dealer to do an Engineers Report on the modifications. I submitted that to the insurer and everything was above board. No increase in premiums or anything like that. Just declared openly and honestly.
Thank you for this great video sir. Did you notice any changes in the long term and short term fuel trims? i am planning to slap the 1zz throttle body and airducts on my mums car lol
@superjojo555 Thanks for the nice comments. Short term the fuel efficiency is less than normal. Maybe a -3 or -4mpg. But longterm, after the ECU learns the setup I found my MPG improved with the 1zz modifications. After 200 miles the ECU learns the setup. I saw a slight improvement of MPG. Maybe +1mpg difference. That improvement in fuel efficiency may have been down to my cleaning of the parts and having new gaskets fitted.
Geat instructions there lad. Im based in ireland myself and run a channel around repairs and with a few corolla videos in there for good measure. I daily a tsport but my mrs has a 4zz 05 hatch and i have often wondered about the specifics of how to go about the 1zz mod. One thing that would be important for me is a completely stock look so would be interested to know if the 1zz air pipe to the airbox is a straight fit of whether a reducer would be needed. Did you ever see any negative effects from running this mod over time?
Thanks for the compliment, appreciate it a lot. The 1zz airline for a Celica will fit, but best to trim a bit of the end of with a saw as it's really too long in the 4zz engine bay. This was the mod will be OEM looking. No negative effects I noticed on my car. Ran the mods for 4 or 5 years and drove 35,000 miles with them. If anything.... my car ran better with them.
Hi, it depends on which intake manifold you have bought for the modification. I used a 1zz Celica one which has an extra vacuum inlet. It's located on the bottom lower right of the manifold. It's very small and about 4mm in diameter. The bottom of the T Joiner connects to that. Then the Left and Right sections of the joiner just run into join the pre exisiting vacuum lines that are already on the 4zz or 3zz. You will see these when you remove the throttle body and intake manifold. They are about 8mm in diameter
Hi there. You can't use the 4zz OEM pipe for the Throttle Body. It's diameter is too small. You need to use the 1zz OEM pipe. That will work perfectly with the 1zz Throttle Body.
ok, i have now gotten all the piping and also ordered the manifold+tb, will it give me a check engine light or other trouble if i use the stock 4zz injectors? thanks!
Hello, I have a Toyota Avensis T25 1.6 2008 Manual 5 Speed 3ZZ-FE. Today I made a swap Throttle Body from Toyota Avensis T25 1.8 2008 1ZZ-FE. I also changed the hose from 1.8 because the hose from 1.6 didn't fit on the 1ZZ Throttle Body. I disconnected the negative battery when I did the process than put it back again when finished. The car was revving up and down to learn the 1ZZ Throttle Body, but now it idle at 1000 rpm. Before was idling at 650/700 rpm. What could it be? Thank you.
@@HobTecCars Hi, I changed only the Throttle Body 1ZZ-FE and the Intake Hose, because the Intake Hose from my car didn't fit on the 1ZZ Throttle Body. Every time when I start the car in the morning, it revs up and down about 3 minutes than it goes down slowly at 1000 rpm. When I turn on the lights and the air condition the rpms goes down at 700 rpm, but when I turn the lights off and air condition off the rpms goes up again at 900 1000 rpm.
Hi there, short answer is YES. However, stroking these engines is fairly involved. By the time you buy a 1ZZ crankshaft, Pistons, and Con Rods and factor in labor costs..... you could have bought a whole 1ZZ-FE for the same cost. As regards Turbo-ing the engine, either stroked or factory low PSI boost would be best. The 1zz is a light block, TTE made a 1ZZ Turbo kit in Germany running low boost to make 180hp on the 1ZZ.
Hi bro , i have a question to this , i have 3zz fe corolla 2004 and want to do this mod and i have a electric throttle in this , should i go for 22210-22070 or 89452-35020? You said 22210-22070 is for a manual ,so does 89452-35020 goes for automatic gearbox?
Hi there, I've been thinking over your question the last 24 hours and it isn't a simple answer. I'll try to be clear as I can. You cannot use the part number I've listed for the Throttle Body. If your car is an automatic with an electric Throttle Body you'll need to buy that version. It is completely different vs the manual version. See an image here on the right. uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170220/4b3d1c6d79c50b4accd7025170fd14b0.jpg Then in theory you ou need to wire your 3zz throttle wiring loom into the new 1zz throttle body. I don't know of the wiring matches up so you might need to create a custom loom to match up the wires. The part number you gave me '89452' is just a Throttle Position sensor. It won't do anything to help the situation. In Europe, there are very few Automatic cars from this era. (I've never seen a ZZ engine in Auto) HOWEVER, I'm sure someone in the world has done this swap with an Automatic (Electronic) Throttle Body. I'm sure some searches from US websites or Facebook groups will have the answers you need. In my head it should be possible to does this swap, I just don't have the hands on knowledge to help you. Hope that helps a bit, thanks!

Gona, do this mod on mine. What did you use to pain the engine cover ?
@charlienevin293 I sanded it with 1000k grit sand paper, used plastic primer of a white colour. Finally used Toyota Super Red 3e5 as the colour on top. Used a laquer then to seal it all in then
Hi, how did this affect your fuel consumption?
Hi, for the first 200 miles fuel consumption was up maybe 10%. But once the ECU learns the modifications I actually had a fuel economy increase of about 3%. I was achieving about 43mpg to 44mpg with the 1zz parts.
Thanks, I wanna put a 1ZZ intake on a 3ZZ motor on a 2005 Avensis and was worried about that bit. Not anymore
How does this effect fuel economy? I'd be interested in giving my 1.4 e11 a bit more umph but would like to be able to keep the 40+mph it's giving me
I found it actually improved my mpg by 0.5mpg.
Did you have any problems with the NCT or insurance? Did you revert the mod before each test or declare it at any point?
Great question. No problems with the NCT. The cars emissions were perfect after the modification. I drove this car for another 3 or 4 years after these mods with no issues.
As for insurance I went about it the legally correct way. I got a SIMI approved dealer to do an Engineers Report on the modifications. I submitted that to the insurer and everything was above board. No increase in premiums or anything like that. Just declared openly and honestly.
@@HobTecCars That's good to hear. Thanks for the video and for answering our questions. Have a great 2024.
Just curious what insurance company you went with for declaring mods and im struggling im 23 with 2 years no claims thanks @HobTecCars
@sktos4046 At the time it was Liberty Insurance. I'd 5 years no claims at that point. The key for me was to get a SIMI Engineers report
@@HobTecCars Thanks for the quick response! have a great day sir.
Important to depressurize the fuel system before opening.
Hi just a bit confused on where the t joiner goes, might be sounding stupid here but what does it connect to? As in which
pipes etc
Hi, it depends on which intake manifold you have bought for the modification. I used a 1zz Celica one which has an extra vacuum inlet.
It's located on the bottom lower right of the manifold. It's very small and about 4mm in diameter.
The bottom of the T Joiner connects to that. Then the Left and Right sections of the joiner just run into join the pre exisiting vacuum lines that are already on the 4zz or 3zz.
You will see these when you remove the throttle body and intake manifold. They are about 8mm in diameter
@@HobTecCars thanks a million bud!
hello, can i use the oem piping for the throttle body?
Hi there. You can't use the 4zz OEM pipe for the Throttle Body. It's diameter is too small. You need to use the 1zz OEM pipe. That will work perfectly with the 1zz Throttle Body.
ok, i have now gotten all the piping and also ordered the manifold+tb, will it give me a check engine light or other trouble if i use the stock 4zz injectors? thanks!
@V.LEPPA222 Great. No it definitely shouldn't if done correctly. I ran my 4zz injectors for 6 years with 1zz mods with no Engine Lights
ok, thanks. i subbed. i will tell you how it went😁
hello, i have now receives the parts, they are from a avensis 1zz. i noticed that i have 2 electric connectors on the throttle body, is this normal?
Thank you.
Not sure of the issue without seeing the setup. By the sounds of your comment, you didn't use a 1zz intake manifold?
@@HobTecCars Hi, I changed only the Throttle Body 1ZZ-FE and the Intake Hose, because the Intake Hose from my car didn't fit on the 1ZZ Throttle Body. Every time when I start the car in the morning, it revs up and down about 3 minutes than it goes down slowly at 1000 rpm. When I turn on the lights and the air condition the rpms goes down at 700 rpm, but when I turn the lights off and air condition off the rpms goes up again at 900 1000 rpm.
Hi guys please help on how to connect vecum pipes it’s a 3zz engine
Hi, sorry I can't help you there as this car is sold, otherwise I'd go into the yard and check for you.
@@HobTecCars Thank you please
I’m going to do this on my 3zz 1.6vvti. I was wondering if I stroked the engine to 1.8 could I turbo it?
Hi there, short answer is YES. However, stroking these engines is fairly involved. By the time you buy a 1ZZ crankshaft, Pistons, and Con Rods and factor in labor costs..... you could have bought a whole 1ZZ-FE for the same cost. As regards Turbo-ing the engine, either stroked or factory low PSI boost would be best. The 1zz is a light block, TTE made a 1ZZ Turbo kit in Germany running low boost to make 180hp on the 1ZZ.
Those Toyota See-Leak-As* are awesome :).
Haha 😄 Regional differences in accent.
I used to say that but everyone corrected me to use: "SELL-EAK-AHS"
Does the 1ZZ mod make more torque and mpg?
1% to 2% better MPG, torque was largely unaffected with 120 to 130nm. Same as factory specifications
@@HobTecCars My engine has 96nm so with the 1ZZ-FE parts that will go to 120-130nm?
@@jaggass Possibly? If you follow my I.G. I can send you my Dyno runs
@@HobTecCars Will do i want a bit more pulling power as 4ZZ FE's don't do much under 3000 rpm.
@@HobTecCars Im going for the 1ZZ FE parts. Already bought 1.8 manifold and airbox pipe. Getting the throttle body soon.
Hi bro , i have a question to this , i have 3zz fe corolla 2004 and want to do this mod and i have a electric throttle in this , should i go for 22210-22070 or 89452-35020? You said 22210-22070 is for a manual ,so does 89452-35020 goes for automatic gearbox?
and the most important question - is it any diffrence between this two throttles?
Hi there,
I've been thinking over your question the last 24 hours and it isn't a simple answer. I'll try to be clear as I can.
You cannot use the part number I've listed for the Throttle Body. If your car is an automatic with an electric Throttle Body you'll need to buy that version. It is completely different vs the manual version. See an image here on the right. uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170220/4b3d1c6d79c50b4accd7025170fd14b0.jpg
Then in theory you ou need to wire your 3zz throttle wiring loom into the new 1zz throttle body. I don't know of the wiring matches up so you might need to create a custom loom to match up the wires.
The part number you gave me '89452' is just a Throttle Position sensor. It won't do anything to help the situation. In Europe, there are very few Automatic cars from this era. (I've never seen a ZZ engine in Auto)
HOWEVER, I'm sure someone in the world has done this swap with an Automatic (Electronic) Throttle Body. I'm sure some searches from US websites or Facebook groups will have the answers you need.
In my head it should be possible to does this swap, I just don't have the hands on knowledge to help you.
Hope that helps a bit, thanks!
@@HobTecCars hi bro , i did this mode , does you fix rev hunting like in all way? I have rev hunting at cold engine , then on warm i goes from 800 to 1100 rpm
Can I get the 1zz parts from an e12 Corolla?
Hi, that should work. But as far as I know there was only a 1zz corolla in the US, New Zealand and Australian markets
@@HobTecCars yeah I thought that ended up getting scammed by a lad who was gonna send me the parts from america took the money and blocked me
@AzamT1914 That's a shame, where are you based? If you payed with PayPal you are insured for scammers like that
@@HobTecCars Ireland. I did pay with PayPal so think I’m covered but it takes a while to process, I was also wondering how much the parts cost you back whenever you did the mod
@AzamT1914 That's great, gosh it was over a decade ago. I think they cost about €60 including postage from the UK.
Can 1zz intake manifold be compatible directly with 1nz motor ?
Hi. To the best of my knowledge it isn't. I know some folks swap the 1NZ Throttle Body with one from a 1ZZ. As done here:
ua-cam.com/video/QDtMjIfncxQ/v-deo.htmlsi=utqDwpujBXRaj13q
I imagine the power gains are quite minimal with that type of mod since the Intake Manifold is still quite narrow despite the wider Throttle Body.
