I love how Eli just wanted to take stock and accounting for the empire for the rest of his life, but Thrawn intentionally dragged him out of his comfort zone to make him the best version of himself he could be.
If Thrawn sees potential in a subordinate he will do his best to bring it out of them and put them in positions that best suits them. In the books his troops follow him out of respect and admiration rather than fear like Vader and the Emperor.
Yh, people like Vader and idiots like assistant director Ronan thought that Thrawn was intentionally horrible by putting his bridge crew on the spot or in Vader’s case, that they were really insubordinate. In Thrawn: alliances Vader actually comes close to strangling some of them to remind the others to follow orders without questions. However, you’re absolutely right in that Thrawn always made people with potential (Eli Vanto, Commodore Faro) the best versions of themselves by stretching and challenging them.
I want to give congratulations to the voice actor playing 'Thrawn'. I feel he captures the deep cunning of a grandmaster chess-player of the mind that Thrawn is. It helps that the comic is rather brilliantly written.

The comic is an adaptation of a book by Timothy Zahn, Thrawns original creator. I wouldn't expect anything short of a brilliant story about our favourite blue-skinned admiral from him.
I really like how Thrawn actually cares and nurtures his troops. As a result his men become more loyal and more effective to him. Thrawn sees the bigger picture and understands that for the warmachine to work optimally each of its components must be well oiled and maintained, no matter how small.
He operates on strict pragmatism. Not caring about subordinates fosters disloyalty which will cause him problems, so he treats them reasonably well. He doesn't actually care about them on an personal level though.

The empire wasnt really evil or wrong, the republic was just as corrupt. You had good and bad people in both. I would say the emperor himself was evil and simple didnt care about anyone. So no i dont think it is and yes him in controll of the empire would be something to see/read (Alternative timeline )
I watched Rebels and did not understand why people thought Thrawn was such an amazing character. I watched this and all was revealed. This is a very good story, excellent production, Congratulations and Thanks to everyone involved. Great work.
You should read the “heir to the empire” books. Although this is his first iteration he’s much more chilling and calculating because it’s after the empire has already fallen
Rebels didn't do thrawn justice to be honest, and I felt there was a bit of inconsistency from this comic compared to the actual show. Still, it was nice to see him, even if his tactical genius was thwarted by magic space whales
@@adudeontheinternet8246, the fact that the Rebels needed magic space whales to defeat Thrawn shows just how much of a military mastermind he truly is. You don't resort to that kind of banthash*t unless even plot armor is incapable of protecting you from the person you're facing. And Thrawn is certainly that kind of person.
@@occam7382 think they needed to explain why Thrawn wasn't around in the OT. But in the books Pellaeon says that it was because people were uncomfortable working under a non-human. So the prejudice in the Empire led Palpatine to station Thrawn in the Wild part of space close to the Unknown Regions.
I love and hate it at the same time that the character of governor Pryce appear more of a threat and bad ass here then in the Rebel show :/ ..... Its like a complete difference character with the same name :((
In the Rebels show, you can assume she got "fat and complacent" from all that power she wanted to acquire, and expected Thrawn to bail her ass out whenever she got into deep shit. She was so wrong.
I think Pryce started out as very cautious and patient in her assent to power but she got too overconfident and careless with her power when she finally obtained her position as governor. I mean she killed thousands of civilians to cover up her murder of that ISB spy.
Agreeeed It’s the problem with making a kids show like rebels, like for even younger kids yknow. Some of the reality is lost, plus Thrawn is the only character that doesn’t make really stupid mistakes during the series

This truly defines Thrawn, he uses intelligence to be deceptive. He even learned about the Death Star before the Emperor told him of its existence. He even asked him about it confidently not fearing him.
The Emperor allowed Thrawn to have his support human, then lied and tried to brand Eli a traitor. There was no way that Thrawn would allow his best friend to be harmed like that. I always got the sense that Eli reminded Thrawn of Thrass in some ways so he saw Eli as a surrogate brother.

This was fantastic and was filled with loads of little touches like Thrawn's actor mispronouncing words now and then which makes perfect sense given that his handle of basic was flawed at this time. The voice actors for Tarkin, Pryce and Vanto were also excellent. Great job.

its atrocities with the deathstar aside, from what we can see i would say the empire is much better in govering systems than the republic or the rebels.
The empire wasnt really evil or wrong, the republic was just as corrupt. You had good and bad people in both. I would say the emperor himself was evil and simple didnt care about anyone. So no i dont think it is and yes him in controll of the empire would be something to see/read (Alternative timeline )

@@derpynerdy6294 that’s what happens in the Thrawn Trilogy, in fact he survives the war and becomes a warlord that reunites Imperial Remants.

Eli Vanto has been developed and groomed to be a great tactician.

Whoever voiced Thrawn’s buddy/interpreter is amazing. Well done
@@occam7382well and in tharwn trasion you can see why he acted out chator trying to hide from palpatine
Its like a complete difference character with the same name :((
is she voiced by the same person as in rebels cuz it sounds like she is
In the Rebels show, you can assume she got "fat and complacent" from all that power she wanted to acquire, and expected Thrawn to bail her ass out whenever she got into deep shit. She was so wrong.
I think Pryce started out as very cautious and patient in her assent to power but she got too overconfident and careless with her power when she finally obtained her position as governor. I mean she killed thousands of civilians to cover up her murder of that ISB spy.
Agreeeed
It’s the problem with making a kids show like rebels, like for even younger kids yknow. Some of the reality is lost, plus Thrawn is the only character that doesn’t make really stupid mistakes during the series

"Trinket" was an undersatement. Palpatine promoted him from Admiral straight to Grand Admiral, skipping Fleet Admiral altogheter.
I love how Thrawn actually cares about the people who serve under him
He operates on strict pragmatism. Not caring about subordinates fosters disloyalty which will cause him problems, so he treats them reasonably well. He doesn't actually care about them on an personal level though.

Rouge one?! Oh my! I can't wait to see what sort of outfits those rebellious, rogue rascals dare to wear! Sashaying about in salubrious, sexy outfits! How salaciously scintillating!
My GOD... actual GOOD writing and a GOOD story in a Star Wars piece? Amazing! I had forgotten that such was even possible. Thank you for this and whoever did the voice of Thrawn you deserve an Emmy!
Why, thank you. Glad you liked my performance as Thrawn.
lol what? There's been PLENTY of GOOD writing and GOOD to FANTASTIC stories within Star Wars pieces and mediums throughout the years when you ACTUALLY pay attention to what's happened and what's been done within Star Wars entirely!
The fact that you BADLY say "I HAd fOrGeTtEN thAt sUCH wAS eVeN PosSiblE" just shows you have NO idea on what you're talking about at all here in ANY way here as you're just whining for no reason. Some of you people just like to whine for no reason at all.

This story shows so clearly why Timothy Zahn should have written the sequels.
This is pure Star Wars.
What a huge missed opportunity...
Im pissed they didnt make movie adaptations of the Timothy Zahn series... Heir to the Empire
Missing opportunities is what Disney is best at
He did write the sequels. The REAL sequels.

I still wish that they would have made the Thrawn trilogy into movies. Would have been better than what Disney is shoving down our throats. Such a bad ass character. He's calm, cool and collected.
Only if they let Dave Filoni was allowed to direct it i would trust no one else with star wars.
Oh god yes
@R.A.E.E Collective idk much about thrawn but did he survive the final ages of the empire?
disney totally fucked up. 3rd deathstar? new empire? jesus they should have done the old republic, or yuzzhan vong invasion. or like you said a thrawn trilogy. instead they cut out legends and replaced it with some shitty cannon thats worse than most fan fiction ive read.
@R.A.E.E Collective Hmm. Well since disney fired kathaleen kenedy and got better ppl who are actually star wars fans and had read the legends, i think they could undo the things made in the sequel through the Mandalorian Series. Who knows, maybe we might get to see thrawn in live action.
Damn, anyone else wish Thrawn was their classmate in school?
Hell yeah
@Miguel Ramos Yeah. He's a genius, knows it, uses said genius, but somehow manages not to be condescending.

this randomly popped up on UA-cam, I am not even a Star Wars guy....and really enjoyed it. I woke up halfway though it and I guess I need to watch the first half now. This is like Sherlock Holmes in space.
Dude then this book have found u just listen to this and if u like it listen to the trilogy and then Chiss ascendancy and then legends material so therefore I are a true og sw fan and u have potential so watch the movies and cw rebels takes of the Jedi and Ashoka….u gonna love it
This truly defines Thrawn, he uses intelligence to be deceptive. He even learned about the Death Star before the Emperor told him of its existence. He even asked him about it confidently not fearing him.
I would love to see this in a movie or a TV series just like the Mandalorian. I think of TV series would do it more Justice.
I second this idea.

Excellent portrayal!!! I could really feel Thrawn's personality. 👍

The Ultimate Thrawn theme ua-cam.com/video/CnEjiDHbyao/v-deo.html
Timothy Zhan has always been the best Star Wars contributor.
So he groomed Eli to be his second...and sent him back to chiss to serve as his extension...nice.
Looks like Governor Pryce and Grand Admiral Thrawn have been besties for a long time.
More like friends then she threatened him then she fucked up his plans. Sounds about accurate.
@@QixTheDS I see that Governor Pryce sometimes lacks the artistic viewpoint that Admiral Thrawn has when it comes to battle tactics.
