Doesn't matter how many times I've heard it, any time someone wants to go back and hear something again in a Tool song, please, by all means, as many times as you want.
Your reaction to the lyrics is a perfect example of why he writes them that way. He wants you to think; ask yourself questions. Relate it to yourself. It's a testament to the depth of his artistry and his intelligence. His lyrics tend to often be an allegory about "us" as people.

Danny, Adam & Justin put the music together, then Maynard sits down and puts words to each song. Amazing really. One of their best lyrically and musically!!
I’m so ashamed of myself. I’ve been a fan for decades and never knew that 😳🤯😔I thank you for providing yet another piece of their amazing beyond words pure genius puzzle❣️
9:08 Sudden, violent, inexplicable loss like that is just indescribable. Shock and heartache like that can be deadly. "Heartstrings" are tendons (chordae tendineae) that connect parts of the heart, and they can rupture under extreme stress. That part of the song almost always brings tears to my eyes. For as hard and heavy as this song is, it's one of the hardest ones for me to sing along with for that reason. My throat just closes right up. But it brings the message that much closer to home. These are not things to celebrate, and yet our society thrives on them. Blessings on that family in your mom's neighborhood.
You definitely "get" Tool. It's obvious in your reactions that you want to absorb every sound, every lyric, every nuance. And I LOVE watching your journey 💜
At around 9 mins where your saying maynard uses his lyrics to enhance the bass guitar. You nailed it, maynard thinks of his voice as just another instrument in the band.
You want to hear Maynard almost rap ( very fast too) listen to their song called Lost Keys/ Rosetta Stoned. It is about an alien abduction. Creative Genius!
What a holistic and honest review of an incredible song. If you pay attention, you can always tell the fake reviews from the real ones. Here is the genuine article. What a great job!!
I heard this from another reaction channel a perfect analysis “ WHAT IS ANOTHER BANDS MAGNUM OPUS IS A REGULAR TOOL JOINT ! ! !” His partner on the channel says “TOOL doesn’t seem to be able to do regular they put out so many songs that are epic”
Bro when you said “I’m not gonna lie, I watched a kid fall out a tree” I completely lost my shit. Awesome video man. Please never stop doing you. Keep it up💪🤘
If you love Maynard's lyrics and creativity you need to check out his other projects too. The bands "Puscifer" and "A Perfect Circle". I'm shure this isn't the first time you get this suggestion :)
I've always kind of thought of Tool being their own genre, the effort that goes into each and every song every note,it speaks to me in a way that no other music does.
I love the fact that you always use the lyrics and try and decipher just what Maynard was trying to say and the meaning behind it, that's awesome how you use you mind in these video reactions / breakdowns, keep doing that way..
I’m glad you listened to this song and did a reaction video. It’s the first I have seen! I feel like a lot of people touch an edge they don’t want to with the message behind this song. Ugly truth.
Tool is my #1 band for this song. The instrumental is amazing, untouched by anything else, and the lyrics still resonate to this day, 15~years later. It’s just *chefs kiss*.
great reaction, the most important thing is that you understood the message of this song. Many people don't even pay attention to the lyrics in this song, which means they miss the most important aspect of this song.
One of my favorites for sure. The build toward the end right before the last chorus (starts around 18:25 in this vid) is excellent, with the instruments each slowly changing their patterns to become harder and harder. The stream was a lot of fun to hang out on, thank you! Glad you are enjoying this band!
Yeah even before that when the news broadcast part ends and Danny starts playing that almost monotonous sounding beat almost as if time is passing by, while slowly evolving it into this anxiety inducing thunder. Meanwhile Adam goes from playing a clean innocent sound, to this head smashing riff that literally feels like it's pulling the energy out of you. Then of course you have Maynard's incredibly powerful lyrics on top of all this. Yeah it might be the best bit of music ever recorded
Had you said “they are like the Lebronda’s of music” I’d have never watched another one of your videos. Thank you for recognizing true greatness when you see it and hear it. Jordan is the G.O.A.T. TooL are the greatest band to ever form and will be combed over and studied and compared long after we are all gone. ➕💯. Sub’d
Reactions are so important, and so many reactors ARE helping to keep the legendary recordings alive and introduce them to new fans. So many times I got into music and enjoyed it so throuroughly, and wanted someone else I knew, anyone else I knew to listen and get the same kind of joy and energy I did upon my first listen. Time and time again I sat in anticipation waiting for friends to have some kind of similar reaction, but usually it was someone sitting there kind of bored and talking through/over the music cause they were not digging it like I did. Finally, thanks to Reactors on YT, I get to VICARIOUSLY watch fan after fan discover these songs and react in the same ways I have. There's a supreme joy in watching people enjoy things, and a certain connection I seem to form with certain content providers such as yourself for appreciating similar things in music as I do. Thank you for what you do. Keep up the great work man. I'll be watching.
This is my favorite Tool song but am I the only one who thinks the lyrics aren't cryptic at all? This is one of the more straight forward Tool songs in my opinion. He's just straight up admitting we all like watching drama and carnage and such through a screen. But obviously dont want that done to ourselves.
4:30 Nailed it right away. Except for not picking up on it being an analogy for everyone, not just a specific subject like a villain. We LIKE death and suffering. Its more than just human, its animalistic nature. Those instincts have helped us to survive, our shadow selves, our darkness. That darkness will rule us if we are unwilling to admit we like to live vicariously through others suffering. It makes us feel better about ourselves
Yes! love this song. Good insights, nice reaction. This stuff is definitely art. The joke is that Tool is their own genre.. but probably they’d be progressive metal.
New subscriber here. Came for your Sleep Token Ascensionism reaction and found Tool! My two favorite bands! And not to put too fine a point on it but I love watching first time reactions to my favorites and seeing a new fan born. Kinda vicarious. Lol
Maynard said that the band wrote the music first, and then he added vocals to it, just coming up with whatever he thinks fits. He said that he wasn't even present during most of the creation of the instrumentation for the album, he was working on all of his other projects (wine business, clothing store, other music projects, etc, and his family)
Awesome reaction and talk at the end! You're doing perfectly. On Pneuma (I think) you said you wanted to do a album stream. Since you listened to at least one song on all albums, I recommend staying with that now and do the Opiate EP (which is from before their first album Undertow and uses mostly raw live recordings) as a full album reaction. The way you talked about preserving this music and giving it to future generations to listen to, that hit me. You are amazing, thank you for your videos ❤
Credulous at best, your desire to believe in angels in the hearts of men… Pull your head on out [of] your hippie haze and give a listen…shouldn’t have to say it all again… The universe is hostile, so impersonal, devour to survive, so it is, so it’s always been… Don’t know why, but this section of lyrics is in my top 10 Maynard phrases. There’s something so raw, but deeply philosophical and insightful about it, kinda cynical but honest.
Little kid fall off the tree...lololol. yes this song is so true, some people won't admitted but, if a guy stops freeway in the morning attempting to jump off the bridge, you know how you want that to unfold.
That’s the simplest way to put it yes, but during Undertow and Ænima eras, Maynard added more than once in interviews that he used to be more unloved with the music being made, he wouldn’t tell the band what to do, he would just give them insight on his own ideas on certain messages the songs should give people that listen to it, like Jimmy, Ænema, Stinkfist, Pushit, Hooker with a Penis, and even Wings for Marie and 10,000 days, according to the band, the song Third Eye and Forty Six and Twi was the only songs off Ænima that Danny, Justin, and Adam created themselves before introducing it to Maynard while he was writing lyrics, which makes the recording process from Ænima to Lateralus much more interesting and intense
tool does a really good job of building tension with build ups and rythem. the song is a social commentary on the human condition. we all cant look away when a car crash, or terrorist attack or anything like that. thia album is from 2007,
So the band maticulously write the music, often for 5-10 years, then the singer listened to the tracks, and lays down the lyics/vocals in a week or two. It's why Maynard is in like 4 bands.
If you can, listen to each album from beginning to end in order. You'll realize their full genius when you hear how the songs are connected. Your reactions are genuinely awesome!
“ I gotta hear that again, y’all” said every Tool fan!!!!😅
Facts!
Doesn't matter how many times I've heard it, any time someone wants to go back and hear something again in a Tool song, please, by all means, as many times as you want.
Stood the test of time... and released in 2006. That's a year BEFORE Twitter existed
Your reaction to the lyrics is a perfect example of why he writes them that way. He wants you to think; ask yourself questions. Relate it to yourself. It's a testament to the depth of his artistry and his intelligence. His lyrics tend to often be an allegory about "us" as people.

To describe the bass, I would say instead of tension, it's like the adrenaline of pursuit. Like a cougar hunting its prey.
This song makes me think Maynard predicted social media 💀
Danny, Adam & Justin put the music together, then Maynard sits down and puts words to each song. Amazing really. One of their best lyrically and musically!!

So jealous of hearing Tool for the first time. 1. Lateralus, 2. 7empest, 3. Parabol(a), 4. Aenema, 5. Right in Two.
I think that exact same thing often. The first time I heard Sober in the 90's, it changed how listen to music.
