Some tips: early tool is Angry Tool. Opiate, Undertow, and Aenema are more raw than Lateralus, 10,000 days, and Fear inoculum.
I would absolutely love to hear you listen to my favorite track, the song I have multiple homages to tattooed on my body, the title track Aenema off the album of the same name. Raw and angry and it speaks to my soul.

fun fact. long walk. tool likes to say their music creating process involves breaking everything down to their most basic parts/elements, before building 'em back up, upon each other. music is sound is pitch is rhythm of periodicity of waves of energy...
a great shortcut to this is shapes! see danny's drumheads, lol. from gradeschool simple to ancient occulted grimoire. representing frequency, ratio, proportion, over both space and time. tool isn't just "math rock", you know? (pfft) it's sacred geometry! as close to "alive and breathing" as we are to being one with that energy, a potential to be music itself.

My favorite TOOL song by far. This song, like many TOOL songs, is half satire half truth. It's meant to be shocking not to make you scared of the author, but of yourself. He's holding up a mirror telling us this is who we are, even if we don't want to admit it to ourselves. We doom scroll, we become numb to the suffering of others, we are monsters.

Just so you understand their method if I remember correctly Danny goes in first lays down the beat and then Bass and Guitar follow to lay down their parts and then Maynard adapts his vocals to their three piece product to finish the song off. A very unique method and that is why it all comes together with such a complete package. It is like vaccum sealing a song after production so tight fresh and clean with POWER.
Maynard has 3 bands if you didn't know. A perfect circle. A song called Orestes.
I believe it is about him having to make the decision to pull the plug on his mom, who had been bedridden for decades.
But he sings... This umbilical residue is keeping me from killing you...like a fricken angel.

crazy how this band has popularized over the years when i go opiate and anema and undertow, they were not very well know, but that is their stigma they dont like media and publicity. but it get through non the less.. maynard has chilled a bit in he side projects since APC took off.. anything he does turns to gold the man is a genius in deed and the members as a whole make up a complete progression and trip of musicianship. that what it is its a roller-coaster ride in your ears! my dad who is now 73 is one of the biggest tool fans has been since the early 90s when my sister and i started to listen to them.. 30 years ago!

The drumming from the legendary Danny Carey mixed with the brilliant genius of Maynards lyrics makes the magic happen. I look forward to more reaction videos from you as you fall down the rabbit hole and SPIRAL OUT. Listen to Lateralus if you understand the fibonacci sequence that song will blow your mind. Even if you don't pick up on the way they integrated the fibonacci sequence into that song, it will still blow your mind. It's a damn good song, but so are all the rest in the entire TOOL catalog. Oh, and that drummer is 62 years old by the way. I think he must be an alien and an octopus. He's out of thus world. I highly suggest you watch his drum cam video for the song Pneuma!

idk, i was surpised how well the chaotic end of "schism" led into chaotic beginning of "ticks & leeches". robert fripp (king crimson) and other artists (brian eno, i'm sure) have attempted intentional randomizing features re tracklists. reiterating chaos. nature. and letting go. although no one within TOOL to my knowledge has confirmed either way (tho BMB definitely knows about 'em).
it is curious to me, however, that in same 10k days stereoscopic card series, there is a cgi figure showing a spiral climbing UP the figure, through crown/12 and godhead/13(th step) chakras ...but then another starting from the heart. 6th chakra of 13chakra system (which correlates with lateralus's 13tracks ...note: lift/elevator sound at beginning of track 1, the grudge ...we're going UP!*)

For the Record TOOL is it's own Genre. There is no music that it can be compared to. TOOL is TOOL and everything else is just noise. There has never been and never will be another TOOL. This is like watching Jordan's Bulls in the late 90's enjoy it while it lasts everyone.
