So happy to see you cover this because I have seen an influencer with a huge following say that they won't use petroleum jelly on their skin because it has petrol in it and they didn't want to put petrol on their face 🤦🤦🤦
I started to use it when I was having eczema and even after I had recovered. I'm OBSESSED with petroleum jelly. Can't live without it, I apply it everywhere where my skin feel dry 😎
I use it on my palms, under cotton gloves. My palms split open and peel, due to mixed connective tissue disease. Recently, i used it to seal a leaking shower stall. Its still holding back the leaking hot water weeks later.
I have always finished my routine with Nivea (blue tin). It is heavy on the mineral oil, so in essence (never knew) I have been slugging my whole life. I was "diagnosed" by our family internist with super dry skin as a 3 year old, and have been using Nivea (now layered) my whole life. It is an amazing product. I hope they never do away with it or start messing with the formula!
Love Vaseline!! I like using it before having a shower on any areas of eczema that are a bit irritated, protects the irritation from any shampoo etc and getting worse!
Great video! I have a retinol serum I use every other night. And I “slug” on the off nights. I have EXTREMELY dry skin especially around my nose etc. This method makes my skin feels so hydrated and makes it glow. I also use a tiny (TINY) bit of Vaseline on my under eyes if I’m going heavier with my makeup. It allows me to use powder under my eyes to set my concealer without it looking super dry. Definitely something I’m keeping in my routine.
Yesssss. My skin barrier seems to constantly be effed...like forever broken. I've been soooo curious about this ans wanting to try it. I've heard good things about it helping repair the skin barrier on faces.
@@KennaWhitnell my skin cannot tolerate retinoids. Tried it once and an immediate angry response. Plus I think I overdid benzoyl peroxide. It was the thing that got rid of my acne....but I paid a dang price.
I use a little Vaseline on top of A GEL Hydro Boost moisturizer on my eyebrow bone/crease where I put eyeshadow. I am very dry and the crease looks patchy and pills without it. Works amazing at smoothing out the eye shadows.
Great for lips at night. When I lived in the city and took a bus to work I would slather exposed parts of my face with Vaseline so that while I walked to and from the stops or waited in the elements my skin wouldn’t suffer. It worked so well. Great for folks spending time in wind/cold. My question is why is this practice called slugging? All I can think of is the slimy coating on a slug and it’s not too appealing 🙈
I use vaseline to remove makeup. Apply vaseline Rub it in Spray micellar water and use a cloth to remove it Then wash my face Vaseline for my heels and handcream
So I tried your tip of using just a tiny bit as the last step at night (I either use Vaseline or Eucerin’s oil balm) and it makes the biggest difference in flaky patches, dryness.
I'm thinking petrolatum may be good help against my hand dryness..I guess I should put hand cream on first and then petrolatum? but yea it's due to work I'm doing..my skin gets super dry and hand cream doesn't seem to do enough for me .
Vaseline (the products specifically that I am showing) is pure petrolatum - vaseline brand does make petrolatum products with other ingredients added too. Aquaphor has other ingredients in there - mineral oil, lanolin, panthenol, glycerin - so it is more of an ointment than pure petrolatum. Cerave Healing Ointment contains petrolatum, hyaluronic acid and ceramides so again it is an ointment and not pure petrolatum so it has additional benefits of moisturizing and emollient ingredients.
YES! I'm so tired of people saying Vaseline is moisturizing, like putting it on your feet and throwing on socks, I've seen so many people do that on UA-cam routines and just use Vaseline and say it's moisturizing, girl you need a moisturizing ingredient too! Lmao
I’d love this topic too. My cheeks flare up from time to time. I can usually manage it with using very simple skincare and only occasional use of mild actives to not overdo it. Always interested to hear more ways to manage it.
Hello! Love you videos! I would love to see a video of your opinion of “skin cycling” and if it’s something you agree with, what products do you recommend?
Vaseline and aquaphor both contain petrolatum - so the difference wouldn't be in pore clogging. Aquaphor also contains other ingredients like panthenol, glycerin, lanolin, mineral oil, bisabolol. So it has some humectants and soothing agents in there as well which have added benefits.
Well, it is an issue of supporting oil industry. It is not our responsibility to take care of the waste that multimillionaire industries are producing. Thinking that it is good to buy an off product of unethical industry just because it is existing and difficult to reduce is brainwashing. It's like saying that fast fashion is ok because it's so built into our society that personal impact goes unnoticed.
@@KennaWhitnell But this way of thinking is. And you should probably read more on oil industry and it's impact on environment, other industries, and individual people's lives. ;)
It is a very safe and inert ingredient. It is not petroleum. Petrolatum is completely different. Shea butter and jojoba oil are emollients not occlusives so they won't work in the same way
Ok so you don’t use this because you used it on your babies skin after diaper change,s. Then you talk about how not to use it if your using certain products like retinoids, … Icky on your skin. You fail to mention that petroleum is hazardous waste! If your not using it I’m not using it, and you should be taking about what YOU use.
I heard in the video that she DOES use it in her baby’s bum but it is now in her mind as a diaper product rather than a face cream so she feels icky. Nothing wrong with Vaseline as long as your skin can handle it.
Guess this commenter missed the part where she literally put in on her own lips in the video. I mean anything you’d out on your lips you clearly deem “safe” enough for topical use - realty is any lip balm, stick, oil, ointment etc you’ll end up ingesting a small bit of it thru normal activities like eating and drinking. So yeah it’s safe and she uses it. Just not on her face or body because she doesn’t feel the need. Plus if she deems it safe enough for her baby that is very telling …. Parents are protective over their child’s health.

This is a common misconception - the name petrolatum definitely causes some confusion with people

Multi-use for sure!

I’ve been using petroleum jelly on top for decades. Love it.
works great on sunburns when applied after moisturizing.
For sure!
I like using it around the eyes, crevices of nose and lips before bed. I also use Aquaphor

Is there a difference between Vaseline, Aquaphor, and the Cerave Healing Ointment?

Ive always used a dab of vaseline with lotion on top of it on my body!
This is a great way to use it!!!

Is 'paw paw' ointment in the same sort of realm as vaseline?
I’ve heard that Vaseline can be pore clogging, whereas Aquaphor is not. Is this true?

It is definitely more complicated than that. Those two examples are not comparable
