it's been a while since i read Legacy of blood but as far as i remember the main character there although puppeteer by Bartuc's armor into horrible acts of evil, had quite a hard time dealing with those acts even questioning if his intent would bring those acts to happen. For as much as I payed attention to the video here, i've not seen much of that from Neyrelle but quite a bit of blaming the stone for all those actions.
This story would be considered a mediocre waste of time even for a side-quest ... They could have asked an AI and even that would have written something more compelling ... Seriously, so far we've wasted an entire base game and an expansion, for basically a few individual cool moments, but an underwhelming overall story. We're basically at the same point in the story as we were at the end of the base game ...
Reaper of Souls was the same price I think, and that had a pretty short campaign. I don't agree with the pricing, but Blizzard have been getting away with it for many years.
These are ALL cutscenes? So in the end you do not fight Mephisto? So, for those who bought the expansion, it is another $40 wasted? LOL. Are people going to fight him in the next expansion or what? And then have another where you help for example Baal, only to kill him in the expansion after that? I'm still salty about the $70 I paid for D4, but right now I'm so glad that the disappointment I felt would save me at least 4 expansions each priced at $40.
Virgin Diablo 4 protagonist talking about feelings and struggling to beat Lesser Evils, goes to Hell for 30 minutes and has to leave because it's spooky vs Gigachad Diablo 3 protagonist who kills his way through Hell and Heaven, beats up Archangels and all 4 Lesser Evils + 3 Prime Evils all fused up into one.
D3 protagonist was a Nephilim; the closest beings to anu having both Order and Chaos power in their blood. They're gods. Pretty sure the main character in D4 is just a talented guy. Why aren't all humans nephilim you might ask? I onno.
D3 main character was op and kinda ruined the story, personally i am glad they moved to some more down-to-earth power levels showing how powerful and dangerous actual Prime Evils are. Other than that i agree, can definitely feel the lack of "epicness" in D4 and VoH DLC.
@@tylernelson1416 The Diablo 4 PC gets an upgrade from Lilith's blood ritual thing at the start of the game. He's also a newer generation which should mean stronger because the Worldstone was destroyed a while ago so their powers should slowly come back. We should be stronger than this IMO.

How can Blizzard waste so much potential? - They should not have focused on Mephisto for such a long time. - They should have kept Lilith and Inarius in most of the story and not just have them both only be in the base game. Two very significant characters and we are already done with them. - They shouldn't be squandering the lesser and greater evils and their interactions and politicking. What I personally wanted to see this story: - a whirlwind tour of sanctuary where we go to each part of it and face a different evil(we have never had a Diablo game with all 7 evils and I'd love to see that) - Have them grow the evil's character and not just be forgettable like what they did to Andariel and Duriel in the base game. - Have the final expansion deal with the lord of TERROR and BUILD HIM UP with each expansion. I can't believe they are dragging this story out for anything but their profits. I personally will wait until the last expansion and MAYBE buy a bundle to save. Eat shit Blizzard!
It would have been WAY better if there were cutscenes involving the 7 Evils speaking and scheming like an actual opposing team of sorts, if not solely just to display their characterizations. Would have been great if, rather than just be told by Elias that Andariel was being summoned, we got some moments where Lilith is speaking to Andariel and actually makes a deal to arrange the summoning so that we can see what Andariel values for her loyalty, and how Lilith feels about it (perhaps she didn't want to sacrifice an entire country but there was no other option to get Andy on her side?). It would have also helped for there to be any explanation whatsoever for why Duriel showed up. Perhaps Diablo and Baal should have appeared alongside Mephisto in their own animal forms with some banter between them. We know Baal is a huge troll who likes screwing around and making wisecracks based on his D2 appearances so it would have been neat seeing him crack a few dark-humored one-liners at the suffering of others while Diablo remains overly stern and Mephisto continues to the smart one of the three. Some scenes with Inarius talking to Prava would have also helped flesh out their faction as more than just a bunch of moronic zealots (Vigo has more characterization than his entire faction combined...).
I still can't believe it ended like this. I got scammed. Never again will I preorder a diablo game again. Actually a diablo themed thing. The graphic novel, Legends of the Necromancer Rathma was atrocious and dumb. This expansion is dumber.
The reason why this expansion is named "Vessel of Hatred" is because it accurately describes how long time Diablo fans feel right now towards Blizzard.
Here is my analysis of it: Expands the Story greatly during the game events: ❌ Things that permanently affect the lore: ❌ Gives hints for next game: ❌ Kick ass gameplay and cinematics: ✔️
They have sold StarCraft II in 3 pieces if you remember. So probably D4 will have a few more yearly expansions (one for all main evil) then we will have a complete game in 2028. Questions is whether the fans are willing to pay for it as the whole game will cost easily 300-400 dollars.
Oh mine... You know, sometimes less is more. Diablo's story evolved to an over complicated mexican soap opera that tries too hard to be interesting. It should have kept the catholic inspired dark tone. Light vs darkness or good vs evil, simple and awesome. When Nyrelle is talking to that shinning lion it gives me free willy or lessie vibes. Such an overcomplicated melodrama. I guess I'm going back to D2.
Man, This is Baal all over again where a great persons body is used for their ressurection. Baal had Tal Rasha and Diablo had the Wanderer... now Mephisto has Akarat!
So grateful you made this. Thank you. I can't believe the bad decisions after bad decisions. Protaganist being run through the back by some nobody with a sword? Dude was just some rando knight. My undead minions would never allow that to happen, not to mention a single hit wouldn't do shit to me with the level of armor and hp regen I have. This is why I hate above all else when cinematics allow shit to happen that can't actually happen in gameplay, and then oh look, some rando can resurrect me? If that power exists, why don't we see that EVERYWHERE? Nope, just that one time for the protag. Just a one off to make you indebted to that rando npc. Fuck that's so dumb. This writing was so damn bad. Thankfully the game itself is fun in its own way, but with putting mechanics like the merc system and the dark citadel behind the pay wall of a DLC, they're just asking us to hate them as a company. You want to have an expansion with a continued storyline and a new class? That's fine, we got that in D3: Reaper of Souls. But the mercs? That was base game D3. Greedy greedy greedy.
Goodness, i detest Neyrelle. The writers desperately attempt to paint her in admirable and sympathic light. You could tell they try hard to overlook or distract from her screwing up everything (ended up getting people killed and us to bail her out) because of the "strong and independent female" trope
Well, she is: 1) woman 2) mixed-race 3) physically disabled (no arm) so, she must be strongest and most independent character. Original campaign ended with Lorath saying "do not follow her she said so, respect her will dude like wtf" Thus, our character accidentally ended up near her even though didn't want to - because respecting her wishes. Generic Starcraft 2 villain with a cigar made sure of that in unavoidable backstab cutscene.
It's basically the way the developers/director/producer of this game's DLC framing the whole story and characters, and it's neither give good lore writing + script nor satisfying outcome of the whole plot of this DLC's story Somehow they make Diablo 3 DLC looks so much better by comparison wtf lol
I am glad I didn't spend money on this. I will buy it with the next expansion, this is not enough story wise and I can't stand the new lore or Neyrelle.
Diablo 3 Rwaper of Souls was $20 and you fought the boss. Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred is $40 and don't fight the actual end game boss. Blizzard thank you for ruining something beautiful!
First of all--thank you for posting this. I was expecting a familiar face come to tell the Wanderer where the hellforge is and slam the hammer down on Mephisto’s soulstone. 🤦 First I feel bad for Rathma, NOW I feel bad for paladins and crusaders, Akarat got treated BAD in this DLC. Yikes.
I love how they set up prava to be the antagonist or at least an obstacle in the dlc by the end of the base game. However sbi probably advised against a black antagonist since there's apparently no such thing, so its time to pull a white guy out of their ass to be what prava would have been. This is a real shame because I can see like an entire redemption arc for her revolving around her growing out of the hatred Inarius was carrying, but alas, I suppose black people don't deserve redemption arcs according to dei standards.
Didn't we see her get mauled by a horde of demons? How is she even here, alive and all preachy and shit. Either this is a doppelganger situation or their way of avoiding a black character as evil...either way, still weak writing imo.
They took the story and run straight to hell with it. Oh man -.- Woke, weak, boring. Only a bombastic trailer for advertisement is all the effort went into it feels like.

you know, i bet I couldve handled the soul stone. i mean i did solo kill andariel and lilith btw. plus im like related to mephisto, so he probably cant control me. he couldnt control lilith after all..
i liked the expansion the story did feel like an epilogue i agree on that however i think its good that they try to built something up and not try to make mephisto the second jailer from wow you know the guy who planed everything all along and then is instantly defeated
And the girl and all characters played by Mephisto again. Dumbass girl think she can outsmart a Prime Evil but in the end she messed up. Who could have thought?
They should have waited 1-2 years to finish the base game instead of releasing as an unfinished product. Then they sell these acts and new areas as dlcs while these should have been in the base game. And we have not even meet Diablo yet. I am sure they will promise everything, but I doubt we will reach a second expansion if number of players will drop significantly.

Why does her sex have anything to do with it? Classic misogynist gamers LOL
i hated what happened to leah in diablo 3 but now i hope neyrelle gets the same treatment, AINT NO WAY SHE GETS OFF THAT EASY. she better ATLEAST have some level of crippling dementia in the next few expansions.
it's been a while since i read Legacy of blood but as far as i remember the main character there although puppeteer by Bartuc's armor into horrible acts of evil, had quite a hard time dealing with those acts even questioning if his intent would bring those acts to happen.
We're basically at the same point in the story as we were at the end of the base game ...
bruh, this is such a scam for 40$ holy shit
Reaper of Souls was the same price I think, and that had a pretty short campaign. I don't agree with the pricing, but Blizzard have been getting away with it for many years.
@@RustCohle072 bro at least you fought the reaper of souls, the one you could see in the announcement trailer

These are ALL cutscenes? So in the end you do not fight Mephisto? So, for those who bought the expansion, it is another $40 wasted? LOL. Are people going to fight him in the next expansion or what? And then have another where you help for example Baal, only to kill him in the expansion after that?
I'm still salty about the $70 I paid for D4, but right now I'm so glad that the disappointment I felt would save me at least 4 expansions each priced at $40.
i feel so good for being at least not braindead to prepurchase this dlc. Saved myself 40 bucks. Sad, I bought base game for 70$ though
Same mate Damm I'm glad I did not buy this peace of shit expansion
The base game ensures I will never waste money on the Diablo franchise again 😂😂
shit game but godtier cinematics tho, saved $40 ez
I think u get to fight meph in like 2 more expansion. Like 8 more expansion to fight baal and diablo
Thankoooooos 😅. You just saved me lots of 🤑💰💰🤑🤑
Virgin Diablo 4 protagonist talking about feelings and struggling to beat Lesser Evils, goes to Hell for 30 minutes and has to leave because it's spooky
vs
Gigachad Diablo 3 protagonist who kills his way through Hell and Heaven, beats up Archangels and all 4 Lesser Evils + 3 Prime Evils all fused up into one.
D3 Was the first mistake. This "shame" come from that. Remember Tyrael speaking of mortal triumph ? Then they made the angels a bunch of idiots and the nephalem an unstoppable demigod. But the original heroes .... Well they Were only humans. Should just remain that Way.
@@Rogar79 the angels were always a bunch of idiots. They aren't good. They nearly voted to exterminate humanity. Tyrael is good, but the others aren t much better than Hell.
Saved me 40$, thanks
So the cliff hanger of D4 vanilla was that mephisto is coming back. And the cliff hanger of the expansion is mephisto is coming back...
I wonder how many expansion it will take till ppl get to fight diablo. Imagine that. Fighting diablo in a diablo game.
diablo now is talk a bout the betray and losing faith of human more than someone called diablo
What I personally wanted to see this story:
- a whirlwind tour of sanctuary where we go to each part of it and face a different evil(we have never had a Diablo game with all 7 evils and I'd love to see that)
- Have them grow the evil's character and not just be forgettable like what they did to Andariel and Duriel in the base game.
- Have the final expansion deal with the lord of TERROR and BUILD HIM UP with each expansion.
I can't believe they are dragging this story out for anything but their profits. I personally will wait until the last expansion and MAYBE buy a bundle to save.
Eat shit Blizzard!
And a game where you could join the Evils would be cool. But nooo, Blizzard is too idiotic for that
It would have been WAY better if there were cutscenes involving the 7 Evils speaking and scheming like an actual opposing team of sorts, if not solely just to display their characterizations.
Path of exile 2 lookin pretty good in a little over a month.
yeah no question, but i was atleast hoping for some cool Mephisto cut scenes man FUCK how is this still so bad with 0 expectations from blizzard
Wow! Aslan aka Jesus from Narnia is really everywhere! Praise be Jesus.
I still can't believe it ended like this.
I got scammed. Never again will I preorder a diablo game again. Actually a diablo themed thing. The graphic novel, Legends of the Necromancer Rathma was atrocious and dumb. This expansion is dumber.
Not fighting Mephisto or actually him appearing looks literally like a scam.
Oh damn Neyrelle lives. Great, means I don't have to buy this one.
they really screw the story line, they should have give different ending, like if u side with mephisto or lilith will give different storyline
The hero we need. Thanks for saving me a few bucks.

Neyrelle Baggins strikes again. SHARE THE LOAD
So no Diablo, No Mephisto...? still nothing?
Bingo... And worst of all, no offline mode smfh.
who would of guessed lilith was right about what she said before dying mhm
Almost like putting mephisto in a soul stone wasn't a good idea, you know like the whole entire reason Diablo 2 happened☠️
The reason why this expansion is named "Vessel of Hatred" is because it accurately describes how long time Diablo fans feel right now towards Blizzard.
Here is my analysis of it:
Expands the Story greatly during the game events: ❌
Things that permanently affect the lore: ❌
Gives hints for next game: ❌
Kick ass gameplay and cinematics: ✔️

They have sold StarCraft II in 3 pieces if you remember. So probably D4 will have a few more yearly expansions (one for all main evil) then we will have a complete game in 2028. Questions is whether the fans are willing to pay for it as the whole game will cost easily 300-400 dollars.
It won't have a few more years of expansions.
I would be surprised if it had any other expansion at all.
@@TiagoMorbusSa Probably you are right. How could they bring out a Mephisto centric expansion without a proper fight and defeat of him?
Starcraft 2 was actually good though
One Plus - we didn't get D3 twist of girl being a vessel for Mephisto, like Leah was for Diablo.
But we still have time.
I guess I'm going back to D2.
cinematic better then game typical blizzard
Thank you for saving me the hassle. Dumb ass Neyrelle is still alive I see. Worst NPC maybe ever. Hard pass. Can't wait for PoE 2.

It's called storytelling. And its getting better, they are not forcing you to pay for the thing so stop whining.
@@formwar3262 well.. since you must buy the DLC to continue the story.. IS like compelling you to do so.

Yeah and as a result I rooted for Mephisto over her.
Such an annoying character, Mephisto is at least fun antagonist.
Yeah the DEI stinks from here
Well, she is:
1) woman
2) mixed-race
3) physically disabled (no arm)
so, she must be strongest and most independent character.
Original campaign ended with Lorath saying "do not follow her she said so, respect her will dude like wtf"
Thus, our character accidentally ended up near her even though didn't want to - because respecting her wishes.
Generic Starcraft 2 villain with a cigar made sure of that in unavoidable backstab cutscene.
Blizzard North > Blizzard

Diablo 3 Rwaper of Souls was $20 and you fought the boss.
Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred is $40 and don't fight the actual end game boss.
Blizzard thank you for ruining something beautiful!
No reaper of souls was 40 dollars as well you most likely had a sale.
Also inflation.
Also it is not special it is the first dlc.

I was expecting a familiar face come to tell the Wanderer where the hellforge is and slam the hammer down on Mephisto’s soulstone. 🤦

Prava somehow surviving assault of demons in D4 was indeed a joke, how? How can you survive 1000 demons literally climbing on you (from cutscene).
True and Real.
Didn't we see her get mauled by a horde of demons? How is she even here, alive and all preachy and shit.
Either this is a doppelganger situation or their way of avoiding a black character as evil...either way, still weak writing imo.
This.
I love the story so much, and yet something feels no right there
They took the story and run straight to hell with it. Oh man -.- Woke, weak, boring. Only a bombastic trailer for advertisement is all the effort went into it feels like.

radical feminism
Love how they sold a sidequest for an actualy game. thank god i skipped it this time
am i the only one who thinks this dlc is very underwhelming?
every comment here says this
It's the first dlc it is to be expected.
They should have waited 1-2 years to finish the base game instead of releasing as an unfinished product. Then they sell these acts and new areas as dlcs while these should have been in the base game. And we have not even meet Diablo yet. I am sure they will promise everything, but I doubt we will reach a second expansion if number of players will drop significantly.
the story is rly stupid isnt it
i actually predicted the story before i bought the game, and it's really happen, and disappointed... expected disappointment...
This feels like the first part of a questline, not a whole story 😅
Are they planning 20 expansions to this game or what? With this pace we will get to fight Diablo in 2048
