John I’ve often made tiramisu with cream cheese because mascarpone is expensive where I live too. It’s actually delicious, just be sure it’s at room temperature and mix it before adding to the eggs.
This is the first video i will have to disagree with. You need to leave the lady fingers in there a little longer. Not too long but not as quick as you were doing it. The cake needs to melt in your mouth.
After letting it sit overnight, every bite melts in your mouth without being very soggy. The egg and cheese mix melts into the top layers of the ladyfingers softening them up. 😋 Salute
zeroyon223 yeah Americans put them in the fridge because we wash the exterior which is the protective layer. While the chance might be low it’s still a possibility. Either way an actual pastry cream whipped with mascarpone would be even richer and creamier.

Mine is different I use heavy cream comes out more fluffy. Also I add more vanilla extract in the espresso with a teaspoon of lime and Marsala wine.
