One of the most emotional songs I have ever heard. His rock solid voice, seamless transition from falsetto to hard belting true voice with no waiver is amazing.
This was one hell of a live performance. Fidelity to the album version but very much raw and live. He had the audience in the palm of his hand with his gut-wrenching vocals. Wonderful performance and wonderful reaction/analysis.
The singer struggling to keep his voice warm, just fits the vibe of the song. It makes him come off more vulnerable, when he is fighting against physics, to get the notes out. As a wise philosopher once said, "It's just a happy little mistake, and this little tree can live there forever." - Bob Ross
This was one of the biggest alternative rock hits of the early ‘90s, and might still be their most well-known song, even though they have tons of more complex and unique tunes. That era featured a number of songs with similar sentiments in their lyrics- feeling bad about yourself. It was a pretty serious time in music, really, and some have said it was too serious, even. Good foresight because yes, the chorus goes to hard rocking after quiet verses. I love the power of his voice on the bridge, and I think that’s the most emotional I’ve ever heard him belt it out.
As someone who was in HS and college in the 90's, Radiohead is like the Gen X Beatles - 5 of their 9 albums have made the Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums List (take such rankings for what they are, but the point is there is good reason they can impact you like this - they are a truly massive and incredible band). This was their first single, great way to start, it was one of the biggest alt/rock songs of the early to mid 90s and is an anthem for anyone who has ever been in love with someone but thinks they aren't ever gonna have a chance as they think they aren't good enough themselves - such a Universal theme and the song displays it in such a memorable, instantly catchy way. They are an absolutely killer live band so this performance is just Radiohead being Radiohead and crushing it on stage, but this one is for sure a powerful clip. Nice reaction!
I like this song, it´s pretty sad but powerful because it reflects many aspects of my life, you know, sometimes when you're rejected for someone that you love but it seems like you don't exist at all for her ...
Lol nah I've never loved a lady that much where i think like that lol thats way too much even now unfortunately many men do get weirdly obsessed with ladies more so than women do over men. Just reality
@@ishrendon6435 that happens when you are a child/adolescent but if you dont learn from your mistakes then you are trapped all your life ideolizing women
@federicocarnebale yeah sadly most men are like that they throw themselves at women like crazy just never felt that way even when i was in a relationship i wasnt obsessed and crazy over her although i liked her alot. Its unhealthy to be that attached .
It's not about relationships. It sounds like opening a Pandora's box of personal demons. Because I have social anxiety and depression and feel a resonance with the song.
There are many live performances of this on UA-cam, where the weather was warmer, and he nailed every note. But this is the performance everyone loves, flaws and all, just like the "creep" in the song.
Love your rection and the way it brough tears to your eyes. The true sign of a good soul! Creep remains Radiohead's most successful singles. It was named one of the greatest debut singles by Rolling Stone.
This song means a lot to me, I was in love with a girl but I "wasn't her type of guy", I understand the song in a way He conveys the feelings through his entire being
I cannot emphasize enough how brave this guy is to expose his soul to the masses like that Such a delicate and emotional time in anyones life, the highs and lows to feel rejected or excepted can have such an effect on ones mental well-being a lot of the time adults tend to forget teenagers are so vulnerable
I arrived at your channel for Dimash and subscribed then but am delighted you've started on Radiohead. I've never heard that performance of the song before but it had me in tears at exactly the same point it did for you, which tells me it's not just the song, and not even just Thom's always mesmerizing vocals, but that specific moment in that specific performance, with the band dropping out to leave Thom infinitely raw and exposed and powerfully controlling my emotions. That song has long been one burned into my soul but that moment will be burned into my dreams tonight.
This is the breakthrough song of Radiohead. After this they made much more truly fantastic music. The album OK computer is in my top 5 list of best albums ever and the latest album A moon shaped pool brought me back how I felt when I first heard OK computer. Tom Yorke is an exceptional singer and songwriter and in my opinion one of the great ones. Creep makes me also tear up every time I listen to it... the pain of the voice buries deep in my gut and makes me feel all the pain I ever experienced. Remarkable. Thank you.
15 Second wail from 4:33. Sure he held it until he couldn't hold the note anymore but that just emphasized the pain. Plus it wasn't like he got a good break before it. Utterly brilliant.
@7:33 it's funny that that explosion is the result of the lead guitarist Jonny Greenwood disliking the song (which figures, as he likely couldn't relate to the rejection it portrays) and trying to fuck it up by slamming what he thought would be an inappropriate guitar into it. ironically the rest of the band liked the result, as it's perfectly suited to the emotions of it.
Radiohead did a powerful job on this song......If you want another live version by a super explosive singer, you have to do this one as well "Vintage Postmodern Jukebox Radiohead Cover ft. Haley Reinhart".
I think this song is an amalgamation of events in his high school years. Everybody fancies the beautiful girl in school but not many have a chance. He's a small guy and his childhood was filled with surgeries to correct his eye. Singling him out for bullying of course. It's really heartbreaking. He did OK in the end though and gave a massive middle finger to the bullies. You can't act out the passion he puts into this. It has to be lived. Pearl Jam unplugged, Eddie Vedder singing "Black." Same deal. Can't replicate those emotions.
lovely reaction can see how and why the emotions were so stirred up in you by it. a very passionate and desperate song of a guy deeply in love but knows he wont get her, great performance great review
Random Trivia: There's another musician, Jeff Buckley - Thom Yorke went and saw him play in the early nineties and there's a video of Jeff absolutely slaying a song and Yorke is right up at the front of the audience and he looks.... upset? Yorke later said watching Jeff's performance made him realize he and his band weren't good enough and he needed to do better. That motivation ended up being a driving focus for Radiohead and the rest as they say, is history.
His wife passed in 2016 I believe - As far as I know, the reason he's so emotional in this performance is because the girl he wrote this song about was actually in the audience
The notes were backed by and drawn from deep emotions. Its almost a WAIL if you will. These kinda of expressions of sorrow and anguish are hard coded into our psyche. Its akin to seeing a war time photograph of a mother holding the corpse of her child and the camera captured the exact moment of her wail.
4:23 Seeing the look on your face when Thom Yorke started to really hit that long note showed me that you were really appreciating the talent of this awesome band. There are many versions of this song on the internet - some studio and some live, and there are some differences in how the band plays it and how he sings it, but there are all great. In this version he breaks it at about 4:32, but in one live version he continues to hold that note for over 20 seconds, and then continues singing not even out of breath. ua-cam.com/video/VzLlwlb1PRI/v-deo.html I really loved your reaction to this amazing song and am looking forward to more.
He got hurt as a young man and wrote this song but ended up hating it as folks used it as a benchmark to assess them. Thom Yorke had more musical aces up his sleeve than a high end card shark. Bless him and Radiohead for all the music. Inna am trying to figure out that accent care to share please :). ?
There's a lot of covers, some very good of this, but I think the best is Pau of The Warning doing a solo of Creep on piano. Search "pau creep" and you'll find it. Watch all the way to the end... Last second is priceless.
Great reaction to an iconic song👏Nobody will ever top Radiohead's original version - it's just not possible. I've heard lots of good covers, but nothing comes near to Thom Yorke's pure raw emotional projection of Radiohead's *MASTERPIECE*......and that's why this song is covered so much! It has been in my top 5 since it was released and it's never left it - I doubt it ever will. PLEASE listen to 'Street Spirit' (Fade Away) by Radiohead.....haunting is an understatement 🖤
It's hard enough to understand him in the studio version. Live is even harder. If you want to hear it again I would check out the recorded album version.
I felt like this for a long time until I realized that I am not and never will be at home in clubs and dance parties. I feel like a weird loser in that situation because it's not where I belong. You give me a couple whiskies and a few people to talk about books and poetry with and I'm the coolest guy in the room. You just have to find your element.
That's a great performance of Creep. My favourite Radiohead moment is in this video - "Radiohead - Glastonbury 1997 - No Surprises". (I won't link as links often don't work!). I was there at Glastonbury. The whole set was amazing, up there with the best live performances I've been lucky enough to witness. It was one of those beautifully serendipitous moments. The fireworks weren't planned or part of the set - they just happened to be going off on another part of the Glastonbury site at the end of No Surprises. I still get goosebumps when I watch it again.
I really love this song, and Radiohead in general but, frankly, I didn't think much of this performance. Perhaps I was just put off by the video and audio quality.
Excellent reaction/review....but then again I could sit and watch paint dry with you and leave satisfied.....cause you are "special". Have a great day and I'll continue waiting patiently for your reaction to Stairway to Heaven, by Led Zeppelin. 🌹 ❤
