Yes, they were singing to each other. During this time, Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham were romantically involved with each other, but their relationship was tumultuous at times and their relationship-drama fights often spilled-over into their performances together (as it did during this video), which, in my opinion, makes this performance more emotionally impactful.
Everyone was breaking up in '76, when this song was written. It's an unusual track in that all five members share songwriting credit. Touring was clearly bittersweet, after that. Sometimes, Lindsey and Stevie seem openly hostile to one another. But during this same tour, as Stevie was singing "Landslide," we saw Lindsey walk over and plant the tenderest kiss on her cheek (to an enthusiastic reaction from the crowd).
This was from the 1982 Mirage Tour, six years after Stevie dumped Lindsey. They were no longer involved and could barely stand to be around each other.
I always laugh when people talk about Taylor Swift writing songs about her exes like that's novel or something. These two in Fleetwood Mac were writing and singing songs AT each other on tour.
When the members of Fleetwood Mac were high on coke ... it yielded unpredictable performances 😲 (Especially if 2 exes are singing and the other 2 exes are also on the stage!)
If you never saw Fleetwood Mac live, you can still feel the tension between them in this performance. During the peak of all their drama and conflict they produce one of the greatest albums of all time, “Rumors”. The band contained two of the greatest female vocalist in the history of rock & roll.
Some 15 years and many breakups later, the intensity of their connection on full display for The Dance reunion tour. 1997 Silver Springs Live is UNFORGETABLE.
Oh man. The chills every time. Lindsey being all animated an visually expressing his frustration while Stevie gives him back the stare of death while looking like a block of ice.
This song is a masterpiece, it's a little psychedelic at first and then it takes a different rhythm, a beautiful band from the 80s,I loved your reaction from start to finish!❤❤❤❤🤟🤟🤟🤗🤗🤗🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🖤🤍🎄🎄🎉🎉❄️❄️🧥🎅🎅
The whole band was basically having drug issues, relationship issues, and cheating during the recording of this album. It's one of the best albums of all time, IMO. Rumors, Tusk, Mirage, and Tango In the Night... are probably the best 4 album run in the history of music.
I don't know about singing to each other. More like spitting bile and venom at each other. But the whole performance is absolutely incredible. This is what live music is all about.
As someone else said, the two singing, Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham were involved and going through a bad break up, the keyboard and bass player, John and Christine McVie were married and going through a tough time and the drummer, Mick Fleetwood, was going through a divorce. Hence all the emotion on stage.
Many people (myself included) thought Fleetwood had broken up for good. The Mirage Tour in 1982 was hyped on TV as a big reunion tour for them. I think this was the opening performance of the tour in LA - the one widely broadcast on television (but not 100% sure). Anyway, tons of emotions in the entire concert.
Had some drama? Oh, honey. They WERE the drama. They were THE soap opera band of the 70s. So many people thought they'd disband. Divorces, cheating, bitterness, and a whole lot of cocaine. They channeled these feelings into their music and came out with some incredible stuff. If you want to hear the better version, it's the studio version. Especially with good headphones. It's a lot more solemn and conveys the emotion well. All band members are credited for writing this song.
Just a little bit over a year ago Christine Mcve died she was the Keyboard player who was married to the bace player but got divorce in the 70ies .but in 20,22 and 20,23 they were on tour. A really good song is Song Bird. Christine sing the song baced on true story. Beautiful song would be great if you did a reaction too. Thank you Inna hope you are having a great weekend.
I don't know what you mean about true story. The rest of Fleetwood Mac called Stevie and Lindsey the Songbirds. Songbird is a love song from Christine to them.
First time seeing this video, have heard the song a million times and never grow tired of it. One of the few videos where Lyndsey speaks to the audience. JUST A FABULOUS VIDEO! Some must-listen suggestions from all versions of FWM thru the years: Everywhere, Dreams, Sara, Little Lies, Landslide, Silver Springs, Over My Head, You Make Loving Fun, Hypnotized, Albatross, and Think About Me. Great reaction, loved how you really got into it. TY
It's not really possible for them to get together like this anymore. Lindsey Buckingham (lead guitar, vocals) was kicked out of the band in 2018. Christine McVie (keyboards, vocals) passed away about a year ago. At the time this music was written (the Rumors album),, the band was in a turmoil. Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks' romantic relationship was coming to an end. Christine McVie and her husband John McVie (bass) were getting divorced. Stevie Nicks and drummer Mick Fleetwood apparently had a fling. All of this tension produced an amazing album. The relationship between Nicks and Buckingham continued to be fraught. Check out Lindsay Buckingham's solo performance of "Big Love" which was released about 10 years after the Rumors album.
Lindsey's fury and anger are captured perfectly in the lyrics and guitar solo at the end. Once you know the history of making this album it all makes sense -- "The chain.. (the band) keep us together"... "Running in the shadows" was the cheating and the breakups and the drugs and trying the stay together as a band despite all going on around them --- the entire album was written while Stevie & Lindsey were breaking up and Christine & John were going through a divorce. Christine was cheating with a stage engineer and Stevie and Mick were having an affair. Coke and alcohol didn't help... It was a MESSED UP. time. Imagine singing about the worst times in your relationship life night after night rehashing all those feeling. There will never be another band like FM and never an album like Rumours again. Go Your Own Way, Dreams, Gold Dust Woman, You Make Loving Fun and Say You Love Me (about Christine's new love during divorce), Second Hand News, Never Going Back Again, Oh Daddy .. all Brilliant!
A snippet of this song is used in "Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2" ... when "Starlord decides to fight back" (against his father Ego). It is an abusive relationship, because Ego - a celestial - just created Peter to use the power he would inherit for his mad plan to "destroy all life and recreate it under his control".
An amazing song from start to finish! One of the best songs of the 80s, I love your content, all your videos are fantastic! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!❤❤🎉😎🎉🎄❄️🧥🎅🤗🤗🤗❤️💚🤍💙
As if the tension between Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham wasn't enough...the copious amount of Peruvian Marching Powder just added fuel to the inferno.
It was very clear in the lyrics of this song and in the interaction between the two on stage how tense things were at that time between them, but despite this the band will survive, at least that is the message the song wants to convey! Anyway, that's it, excellent reaction and excellent choice of song Inna, continue with the work you're doing and Brazilian greetings!
You can be sure they were throwing forks, knives and even the kitchen sink all around. Despite all the drama in the band, they still managed to do beautiful music. Merry Christmas to you Inna and family. May it be a peaceful and happy one.
Lyndsey and Stevie will LOVE/HATE each other until their last dying breath. Watch them sing on the 1997 concert "The Dance". 20+ years after their breakup and they were STILL pissed at each other.
Check out the very early Fleetwood Mac from the 60s. Tracks like Man of the World, Oh Well, Green Manalishi and Albatross (instrumental) are good examples of their work.
Inna, They were literally singing at and through each other. Talk about repressed emotions coming out in this performance, the album Rumors came out in 1977 ( when they broke up) and this performance took place 5 years later, and you can easily see the feelings are still Raw & Genuine.. Good Luck Jjh
They were absolutely singing to eachother. Lyndsay and Stevie had a relation already before they joined Fkleetwood Mac. Lyndsay was actually asked first to join the band but he would only agree to join if Stevie also could join. And so it happened. And then they were making the album "Rumours" on which this song and "go your own way" can be found they broke up and quite some songs is their was of coping with the break-up. The band is still together but Buckingham isn't in it anymore.
@@ToniMcGintythe thing about that that has me scratching my head is why they didn’t completely break up when she first left? They sung without Christine for 15 years. I was just shocked with that comment from members of the band saying the band is through because she died. She wasn’t even an original member. When Lindsey got fired, they continued. They don’t know what they want to do.
@@shunlvswx Not a terrible point. I don't know, I guess. Yeah, there have been numerous line-ups, but for most people, for better or worse, the Rumours lineup is Fleetwood Mac. With Lindsay and Christine gone, you've only got Stevie on lead vocals. Crowded House is my favourite band, but I felt Neil Finn was a strange match, and House are back together again (who knows for how long...). I'd say yet another line-up at this stage in the game is overegging the pudding. They'd become the Sugababes. But, again, weirder things have happened...
Lindsey (guitar/vocals) and Stevie Nicks were a longtime couple that was splitting up during this album. They are singing to EA ach other on stage. Fleetwood Mac contest to perform on and off, but have no current plans since Christine McVie (piano/vinals) died in 2023
Yes, they had been in a long relationship - even proceeding FM, as I have an album of them as a duo - this was, I believe, just after they broke up in a SERIOUS way - but stayed for the group because they did perform together so well. he did end up being kicked out, though, for various reasons, including things he was saying about Stevie. Christine, the other lady, wrote "You Make Loving Fun" about her affair with one of the crew - and her (still/ex?) husband had to sing it, knowing who the song was about!
Christie recently passed away, and the rest of the group has parted ways with Lindsey. They played together, but they probably will not without Christie
They toured without Christine for years as she was happy bringing up her family and had a little stage fright. I’ve seen them twice without her, once with her.
my sister loves them. but iv never got the whole chain thing. I like it but not love it. i love every other song from them tho. their best for me is Fleetwood Mac - As Long As You Follow ua-cam.com/video/Zfc1awuiS0w/v-deo.html
HUGE FAN of Fleetwood Mac Despite their drama, they always put up a fantastic show... hair raising emotions between Stevie and Lindsey. After 21 years Lindsey and his wife got a divorce- I would be ecstatic if they end up together again. They are truly SOULMATES and music just speaks through them both. Just perfection poetic I would say...❤❤❤
I sincerely don't think it would be healthy for either of them - my gut feeling is that every time they are together their emotional state towards each other is reset back to 1977.
The best description I heard of this performance was it’s like sitting in the kitchen listening to your parents fight. There is one point where Lindsey is yelling at Mick “Come on”, and Mick is avoiding eye contact. Mick and Stevie did have an affair at one point and it may have been during this period.
Lead singer Stevie Nicks has been touring lately... But I think Fleetwood Mac is unofficially over since Christine McVie (vocals/ keyboards) passed away in 2022 from cancer. She had left in 1999... but reunited w/ Fleetwood Mac in 2014 and did what was their final tour in 2019. Unfortunately, Lindsey Buckingham (vocals / lead guitar) was fired in 2018; apparently Stevie had it w/ him and demanded that he be fired and replaced for the 2018/ '19 world tour.
Stevie Nicks is an incredible singer and songwriter. However, I want to focus on the level of the other 4 as musicians/instrumentalists. They are all off the charts good.
Fleetwood Mac had more drama than a telenovela, more drugs than a cartel member. And more hits than Tyson 😂😂😂 If you made a documentary about it, it would break the internet.
Fleetwood Mac was basically a warzone behind closed doors at this point. Lindsay and Stevie were breaking apart and constantly fighting, as were Mic and Christie! Both couples were angry and miserable and everyone hated each other most of the time. They took WAY too long to break up
The two singers Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham, base player John McVie and keyboard player/vocalist Christine McVie and drummer Mick Fleetwood were in break ups in all their relationships.
The live versions of these songs are so much better, so much more intense. One thing I hate about 70s records is how the songs fade out.. and in Fleetwood Mac's case, where the song would fade out on the album, it would completely take off and nearly go off the rails by the end. Rhiannon is particularly like that... so much better live.
As noted by others, yes. - Nicks' lyrics referenced the breakup of her relationship with Buckingham, a theme of many of Nicks' and Buckingham's lyrics on Rumours.
No they were not a couple in that time they lived together for 6yrs from 1972 to 1978 that was a hard break up for them both but lindsey the guitar player took it harder.
Ahhh, our music was awesome wasn't it.. and in my book the most epic band ever is Fleetwood Mac. This was not the first show of emotion on stage and certainly not their last. Christine McVie who played the Piano got between them many times to stop fights. The Tusk tour, if you can find it. I can't recall the year and place right off the top of my head, but Lindsey was making fun of Stevie and went behind her and kicked her.. the band left the stage and Christine, John and Mic stopped the fight... Christine making sure Lindsey never did that again. Lindsey and Stevie had their ups and downs but were amazing songwriters and artists. Most of us liked to watch the drama on stage... part of their appeal to some people. Lindsey is second to none with his guitar playing... just truly amazing and still putting out songs today. Stevie of coarse and her beautiful one of a kind voice is uncomparable. Christine is a great songwriter and has many of her own music on their Trac's. Christine was laid to rest last fall after a health issue. Their last album as a complete band is called " Say You Will" I believe released around 2015. Since the death of Christine, Mic Fleetwood, Stevie Nick's, Lindsey Buckingham and Christine's X Husband John McVie all agree that at least for now they cannot see the band continue as a group with out her in it anymore. Stevie, Lindsey and Mic Fleetwood still sing and hold concerts as of today. It was sad to hear that Mic lost his restaurant in Hawaii with the fires last year. A lot of memorabilia was lost in there I'm sure. I'm planning to see Stevie Nick's when she holds a concert over here on the west coast in Cali this coming spring. She is my number 1 all time singer/writer. If you get to, go through their videos, you will see daggers like those show clear down to never ending Love in their eyes to each other in every show. Most, like 80 percent or close of all the songs they sing are songs they have written about each other. I just love them... glad you enjoyed their song.

By this point in the bands history, cocaine was becoming a huge problem, Stevie even requiring some nasal surgery to repair her septum. You can hear the anger (especially in Linsey's voice) and the strife between them.
This is really not the best version or performance of this song by the band. Live, the best one is from "The Dance" concert: ua-cam.com/video/kBYHwH1Vb-c/v-deo.html (Fleetwood Mac - The Chain (Official Music Video) [HD]) And yes Stevie and Lindsay were singing at each other. Go Your Own Way was Lindsay singing about Stevie cheating on him, and then Stevie came back with her side of the story with the song "Silver Springs" which you must also watch/react to. BUT only this version as it is riveting and incredible: ua-cam.com/video/eDwi-8n054s/v-deo.html (Fleetwood Mac - Silver Springs (Official Live Video) [HD])
stevie didntr sound good. think drugs was involved. vocals maybe even cristeen. somebody was way of. ........but the raw emotion & vibe and energy ,they pulled it off & made it incredibl;e

Fleetwood Mac had more drama than a telenovela, more drugs than a cartel member. And more hits than Tyson 😂😂😂
If you made a documentary about it, it would break the internet.
They had drama in the 70’s
Theyre completely trying to outdo each other. Lindsay Buckingham cuts a killer guitar solo at the end of this too.
She's mad, he's mad and even the guitar gets mad!
This is the greatest advert ever for Cocaine. The Drugs do fkn work (in your face Richard Ashcroft).
Lindsey buckingham did not get a divorce his wife and him decide to stay together.
No they were not a couple in that time they lived together for 6yrs from 1972 to 1978 that was a hard break up for them both but lindsey the guitar player took it harder.
They broke up in 1975….not in 1982…responding from a previous text
Their last album as a complete band is called " Say You Will"
I believe released around 2015. I just love them... glad you enjoyed their song.
please look Desireless - Voyage Voyage
Taylor Swift writes songs about her Ex's, Stevie Nicks makes her Ex's sing break up songs to her! 😂
Please Silver Springs....... Please

By this point in the bands history, cocaine was becoming a huge problem, Stevie even requiring some nasal surgery to repair her septum. You can hear the anger (especially in Linsey's voice) and the strife between them.
,,,,,,AT,,, each other. 💥💥💥👍🤪
Who dated who?
Yes
Yeah, they ended up hating each other
To my mind he was the idiot, but I don't know them
This is really not the best version or performance of this song by the band. Live, the best one is from "The Dance" concert:
ua-cam.com/video/kBYHwH1Vb-c/v-deo.html (Fleetwood Mac - The Chain (Official Music Video) [HD]) And yes Stevie and Lindsay were singing at each other. Go Your Own Way was Lindsay singing about Stevie cheating on him, and then Stevie came back with her side of the story with the song "Silver Springs" which you must also watch/react to. BUT only this version as it is riveting and incredible:

I think everyone dated everyone else in this band
stevie didntr sound good. think drugs was involved. vocals maybe even cristeen. somebody was way of. ........but the raw emotion & vibe and energy ,they pulled it off & made it incredibl;e
A lot of coke was sniffed before this performance..
This is one of their worst performances in terms of being in tune and their normal harmony. Should try more of their stuff. It can only get better.
