      @@Alexandra-ek7kh That's definitely a good price for this monitor, not taking into account the currency exchange rates and whatnot. To be honest, I like the Mi 34 a lot more than the Gigabyte mainly because of its minimalistic design, however, I cannot justify the additional price just for a better looking monitor. It's also a little painful for me to see the prices of monitors/components go down as I built a custom PC last year thinking I got the best components for my money only to realize that the new products coming out this year will perform better at a lower price (both GPUs and monitors) :(

      @@CrashForce Prices for computer parts will keep fluctuating up and down any time. What matters tho is if what you have right now serves up the purpose for which you bought it. You don't need to be sad if there's a better option in the market compared to your current model. I'm running an APU playing Valorant on 30fps but I'm happy, cus i at least get to play with my friends :) (they all have 120Hz monitors lmao)

    • @CrashForce
      @CrashForce 4 роки тому +1

      @@blurri_10 Yeah I totally agree with what you said there. I honestly haven't had any issues with my current components until I downloaded Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. For some reason the game looks pixelated on my monitor unless I were to really zoom into the aircraft. Aside from this minor issue, the sim is also pretty hardware intensive as it often drops to well below 30FPS at high/ultra settings or when I'm travelling at a high rate of speed. The biggest problem I find when it comes to buying certain parts like monitors and GPUs is that you can't buy one high end component without the other component being high end (i.e. RTX3080 requires you to get a 4K screen to fully utilize the GPU for what it is) as well which can take a hit on your bank account sooner or later.

    This is the best ultrawide VA monitor and it's very cheap. Xiaomi doing good job with everything, congratz to them. I'm checking out every 34 inch ultrawide option lately. So far i've found out that 34gn850 really good but it has ips weaknesses. Msi mpg34 is overpriced as hell and has only 2k contrast. All other VA's pretty slow when it comes to response times/overdrive implementations. This Xiaomi makes good compromises. Have amazing contrast ratio, good overdrive and ok response times, nice wide gamut (not excess like nano ips but not muted like srgb either) and nice pricing. I will try to get this one. Thanks for your great reviews Tim. Know this, a lot of people really appreciate what you are doing. You are also improving yourself everyday.
    Compromises/goodness ratio is pretty good with this one. Uniformity is a bit concerning though.

      Quick google for my local stores and that model is on back order (not much of a wait though, so near enough to available) at around 15% higher price than I got the Xiaomi for
      Both are the same res/Hz/curve/panel type etc.. so I would assume same actual panel in a different shell.
      I'd be quite interested to see if it's worth the slight increase in cost.. even if identical though it'd still be great as it's easier to deal with warranties locally with a big brand like Gigabyte
      That said, Xiaomi opened an actual warehouse/office in Australia in 2019 and teamed up with small mobile phone repair partner stores around the country, so if I did have issues I can still make a direct warranty claim without any international shipping drama. Might even be able to drop it off at said little mobile store nearby as a middle-man without paying for shipping at all

      @ No, Google does look at your data, and many other companies do, but the difference is that A)It's baked right into your phone's system and basic apps like settings, calculator or gallery or whatever. So it's not like Google which you can just not use, and B)It's based on China, and as such it has to comply with the CCP, so that's bad. Fortunately you can just block the adresses of the servers they use for data collections with an app, or you can just install a custom rom, and voila. And they have actually been in trouble about how much data they collect, not unlike tiktok, so if you care, and you should, you should be aware, there's articles about it in quite a few publications.

    Xiaomi has always made some nice electronics(outside of phones which is what they’re known for). They had some nice earphones that I used back in highschool and i read reviews on their early android tablets back during android 5.0 days. Wish they would make a higher end version of this with that 21:9 HDR 144z panel that acer and asus use in the x35 and pg35vq, respectively.

    I have to say it's refreshing to see a review where the reviewer actually bothers to measure and test the unit rather than giving a verdict based on a visual inspection. While subjective impressions are a good thing to have, reviews giving nothing more than opinions on hardware are worthless. And when it comes to video and ESPECIALLY audio, these are all too common. Common is also the lack of knowledge of the devices and their important measurable qualities when the units differ from frames or megabytes per second.

    How is freesync working with this screen? I have tested the AOC CU34G2X and Iiyama GB3466WQSU both have freesync flickering when the fps and screen refresh make bigger jumps. (for example 60-100 fps range) This is very annoying and unusable when playing RTS games. For shooters it's fine but with RTS you clearly see the screen flicker. Both are VA panels my Asus MG279Q has no issues at all with 57-144Hz freesync range no flickering at all. Tested it on a 5700XT RX480 and 290X always the same results :(

    Just so people are aware, I love this monitor but it has overshoot / inverse ghosting issues in some games, namely Pillars of Eternity, Day Z or Stalker COP. I think it is great for the price, it has amazing deep blacks and colors, less ghosting than AOC 34G2X, but more inverse ghosting or smearing. I have come to learn that most monitors are "defective", they will have dead pixels, ghosting, inverse ghosting, washed out colors, poor blacks, poor contrast, backlight bleed, ips glow, etc etc. So stick with the one that has less issues for you. I say this after having returned 14 monitors (I am not joking) and 13 of them had dead pixels, the one I kept developed a stain of dust after 3 months and also returned it. And it isn't bad luck (stop excusing manufacturers poor QC), I bet most people don't notice they have dead pixels, some people would be surprised. Not saying it's impossible, but most of them aren't looking hard enough.

Can vouch for build quality and design, you get a lot of monitor for the money and 34" is great for work and games. Got this one delivered last week. I feel kind of validated now. :)
    Can confirm some brightness uniformity issues. Can also confirm the very nice build quality - the cable covers and channels are great to work with. It's my first VA - I've been using IPS or OLED panels - so there's some getting used to it, but not so there's a problem. It's $450 in Sweden, including the 25% VAT, which at launch made it the cheapest curved 3440x1440, regardless of update frequency. The MSI Optix MAG341CQ has now been lowered in price to match, but it doesn't have the adjustable stand and "only" clocks in at 100Hz.

      Hey there, I'm planning on getting the Xiaomi and also currently own an IPS (144hz 1080p) and have never used a VA. Do you mind telling me about your experience in gaming, productivity etc...? Mainly how's was your transition to this VA monitor? Like noticing Dark smearing and ghosting for example? Finally, I hate IPS glow, is that not present in it considering it's a VA?
      The monitor is only $370 after taxes here, so I'm very tempted to get it. Thanks in advance for your opinion :)

    • @c99kfm
      @c99kfm 3 роки тому +1

      @@Bearded.Stranger Every now and then I look at a dark video with perceived smearing and immediately think, "oh, there's the VA smearing", but those videos look similar on my OLED. I think I'm just reacting to it on the Xiaomi because I'm expecting it.
      I've never really been bothered by the IPS glow, but I don't think there's any at all in this VA. I'm using it in a dark(-ish) room, with a lower-than-max brightness setting.
      I've been working from home for the last 7 months, and been using my OLED TV before buying this one, so I'm comparing the Xiaomi more to the OLED than to my work monitor (Dell 3440x1440 IPS) or my old personal monitor (LG 1920x1200 IPS) - but it looks good.
      Gaming-wise, I desperately need a better GPU - my 1660 Ti has no chance of handling 3440x1440 at 60+ fps. I will be looking at a new GPU in spring, provided the less power-hungry models drop - Geforce 3060 or Radeon 6700, maybe?

    • @Bearded.Stranger

      @@c99kfm Thank you for the reply. Based on your input I think I'll just go for it, as everything else that's appealing to me is $700 and more (Odyssey G7 & LG 34GN850). I considered an OLED, but they only come in massive sizes to even consider for daily usage. I feel currently with monitors you hit the diminishing returns quickly past the $400-500 price range, so the Xiaomi at $370 seems like the 'sensible' choice until monitors have OLED at a reasonable size and price haha.
      Good luck with GPU hunting the new ones are very promising for 3440x1440. Been working from home too for the same period, hence I'm upgrading my monitor since I'm building a new PC, got a 3080 ready waiting on a processor.

      @c99kfm 3 роки тому +1

      @@Bearded.Stranger Yeah, the OLED I'd been using is my 55" TV. It worked great, but I prefer the ultrawide aspect ratio for productivity. I might've tried a 3840x1600 ultrawide, if they were available at a reasonable price, but 3440x1440 has worked at work, and I'm quite happy with it at home now, as well.
      I might consider shelling out the $7-900 price range for a 3840x1600@120Hz OLED in ten years or whenever this Xiaomi stops working. It depends a bit on how my OLED TV works out, with burn-in and so on.
      With a 3080, I'm fairly certain you'll max out your new Xiaomi and will be very satisfied with your gaming experience. Game on! :)

    Take it from me if you own a Xiaomi 34 and want to play competitive shooters, Motion Response time to on works very well at the cost of a darker screen.

    Have this monitor. Got it for around USD $430. Can confirm everything Tim says here on my own monitor except for color stuff, my brain is mush when it comes to colors. However I noticed the monitor is a lot redder around dusk time in Rust compared to my Acer Z35. For the price it's not a bad purchase but if I had the budget for a better monitor I would have definitely spent more. That said this is the cheapest monitor in it's class and if 400 - 450 USD is all you can spend, from what I can see, this is it.

      Hey, I was reading about G Sync on this monitor and some people report that G Sync only work upto 120Hz. Is that true?

    • @donicsm7684
      @donicsm7684 4 роки тому

      @@GoGito This monitor doesn't have G-sync. I'm not sure what they'd mean by that. I have an Nvidia card and I'm running Freesync on 144hz, it definitely works. The only thing I can think of is maybe it's an HDMI thing, I'm using a Display Port cable.

    xiaomi is cool brand. All their stuff is simple and elegant, lots of aluminium, decent plastics, excelent quality/value ratio. Chinese gonna take over. Matter of time lol.

      I have a xiami phone (K20 Pro). From the hardware specs it is a Pixel 4 or better for only $400 and was released a few month earlier. The only issue are annoying advertising notifications in chinese.
      Edit: I found the app which caused the annoying notifications. I think it is a newsapp that comes with the OS. I was able to turn off its notification permissions and now it is silent.

      @@Sunlight91 I believe you can still just flash the rom, replacing asian software with eu/global version. All roms were easily available on mi forums. Be careful no to brick your phone tho. I havent been into phones that much lately, so I'm not sure if their new phones are locked in any way.
