Big part of it is personal preference. Most people don't like overshoot, but some don't mind it and prefer slightly snappier motion. It can also depend on what type of player are you, or how your eyes perceive the moving image - tracking eyes, fixed gaze, adjustable, mix. Great review. I bought the M34WQ approx. 4 weeks ago and am happy with it so far. I use it mostly for content consumption, light gaming and using the KVM to switch between my gaming PC and work laptop. You have any issues with back light bleed? I just bought a m34wq and have two small spots along the top left edge where it bleeds in a dark scene. I've heard this can be a fairly common problem, and the bleed is subtle, so I'm trying to decide if RMA is worth the hassle or I should live with it.
Were you planning to review the most recent Viewsonic “Elite” series of monitors? Their 4K and 1440p models have received a substantial amount of attention, and it would be great to see those products get put through this palpable testing method. I do both on mine, and Halo Infinite, GOW PC, BFV, GTA V, Tomb Raider, Forza 5 all support 21:9 ultrawide and after playing FPS in that format its hard to go back to 16:9
Man I really want this monitor, except for the fact that it is flat. At 34inch ultrawide a curve is almost a must due to viewing angles. I'll probably go for the LG 34GN850
KVM is THE selling point for me, and I was not evena ware of it untill this. Still on my old trusty dell U3415W just because of that feature. Excellent to know!
I picked up the gigabyte M27Q bast on hardware unboxed review. Absolutely love it. Never thought I’d use the kvm but it works well as a usb hub for my VR sensors.
One thing I would like to know when you review newer screen sizes, is how they compare to the old standard sizes. For example, is it like a 32” screen with extra width, or a 27” with extra width, or somewhere between. This would help understand the height of the screen and the pixel size. I’m sure I can work it out but it would be nice to have a quick mention of this in the review.

Overall its good, especially because of the pricing. However it's far from perfect. I would have loved one more USB slot on the KVM plus a BETTER PLACEMENT FOR THE CONTROLS! Its super hard to use with multiple monitors and laptops on my desk. The way LG implemented the nipple in the middle of the monitor below the chin is the way to do it. The color I would've loved if the SRGB mode would match up with my Lenovo Legion 5 Pro (out of the box colors on the laptop is spot-on).
Hey just a suggestion, maybe you could play around with the idea of a darker background gradient for graphs? If you want. Maybe even have a darker Hardware Unboxed logo to go with it or something. That could be cool.
I bought an GB M27Q last year (december 2020) and I'm thinking if I made the right decision considering I only have a 1650 Super. I'm lagging very hard in Apex if I go with full resolution, so I have to turn on adaptive FPS to have playable frame rates
@@triadwarfare just run your game in 1080p bro it's much better than looking at constantly changing textures and models with their adaptive fps implementation. You can also add a sharpening pass with NVidia filters on top to make non-native image look clearer
I got mine yesterday and have to report that this is a huge downgrade for productivity usage compared to my old Dell P3421W. The coating on this panel is just terrible. Bright content like web pages looks grainy due to that coating. And the colors shift quite a bit in the corners from normal viewing distances due to the missing curve. I honestly prefer to keep gaming at 60Hz on my old monitor rather than working for 8 hours per day on this panel.
It's out of stock EVERYWHERE, gah I want this monitor so bad! Built-in KVM is a massive value-add for someone with a work laptop and a gaming PC, and a singular desk setup.
The best way I've found to show the importance of no-over shot is to play RedDead2 on a bright grassy scene and move the camera. Monitors with high over-shot look broken. (It's also handy because it's not going to run at the monitor maximum, which is cheating.)
Bro. I have the M27Q. Freaking amazing displays, coming from a WIDE variety of stuff before, they punch way above their price in terms of quality. That and the built in KVM has been a game changer for my work setup! Gigabyte is taking over with this stuff imo.
I've been using the Acer Predator X34p for a while now for gaming a productivity, and I've not once felt like the curve was off-putting while editing video or images. Granted, it's a pretty slight curve. I could see how a 1000R curve might be not so great for productivity.
I'm not sure how people don't notice it. I tested an LG 38GN950 that has only a 2300R curve and I thought it was very noticeable in how it distorted straight lines. Maybe it was more obvious on the larger 38" screen? But things on the left and right side almost looked like they were angled upwards, and any long straight line that ran across the middle looked like it had a noticeable bowing effect to it.
I picked up a ViewSonic VA3456-MHDJ last April, same size flat IPS panel with similar touted specs to this one except it tops out at 75hz and is missing most of the gaming focused features which makes sense as it's really an office monitor. If this had been available when I was in the market for a new monitor it would have been a strong contender, that KVM and the higher refresh rate would have easily been worth the extra ~$200CAD to me between what I paid for the monitor in front of me now vs what I see this one's currently selling for around here (a bit over $700CAD).
Interesting addition from Gigabyte. How would this monitor stands against the Acer Nitro XV340CK in terms of gaming/response time/overdrives, which I believe would be one of the closest direct competitors.
Question: If adaptive sync is disabled and the monitor always runs at its maximum refresh rate are overdrive artifacts still a problem when playing lower FPS titles? I would assume not but am not sure.
In theory it should have less overshoot than with adaptive sync enabled. Same amount as @max refresh to be exact. Because it keeps updating at 144 and cuts off the over/undershoot before it exagerates. Some monitors can have different overdrive modes with vrr disabled. But there really is no reason do disable vrr.
I own one of these, I bought it a couple months ago because my old monitor was failing, and it's a decent stopgap until cheap 42" QD-OLEDs come out. A couple of things that I've noticed about mine that this review didn't mention: 1: The LED light on the bezel is obnoxiously bright. I ended up taping over it on mine to solve this problem. 2: It was very picky about my DP cable, only one of them (the shortest one) didn't result in random disconnects, but it's also possible this was the fault of my cables and not the electronics in the monitor. 3: There is a several seconds delay when switching video modes, where it blacks out the screen. When it's switched, it shows a small window in the middle of the screen with the resolution listed. This goes away after a few seconds. Overall, quality of the screen has been good, and well worth the $500 I paid. It's not a top-tier screen, but I didn't pay for one either, and I bought it with zero HDR expectations. I'm content, for now, though I'm not liking ultrawide as much as I thought I would when I ordered it. It'll do fine until my next upgrade.
Will you test the updated Gigabyte G34WQC, which is named "G34WQC A". Apparently it has a higher contrast ratio than the "G34WQC without A", and they removed the "Dynamic contrast ratio" from specifications compared to the original.
I went for a Huawei MATEVIEW GT 34 wich have light curve, VA panel (great dark) and 165 Hz FreeSync Premium. I run it with a 6700XT at 144 Hz and after calibration it's fine with a 10 bit colour space
Well! Definitely thank you, Tim, for this great review! I like this for using Adobe Illustrator, since I have another, smaller monitor to my right (where all the toolboxes go). Be nice to have some extra real-estate! X-Plane 11 will benefit, too! I could sit slightly to the left, and have Avitab and the takeoff checklists over toward the right. I going to think about this one! A bit concerned about the 'locked' white-balance, though. Hmmm

Hello brother. Amazing review. But can you please show us what it looks like to play PS5 games on this monitor? And when our GPU can't handle that resolution if we set the ratio 16:9 and downscale the resolution to 1440p 2k. will it looks like a native 2k 1440p 27-inch monitor or blur? Or looks bad? Finally some ultrawide content! Nice review Tim. Really appreciate the overdrive details. I'm running a previous gen Samsung UW1440p VA panel but only at 100 Hz so response and refresh are pretty much in sync. With the current shortages I can't find a GPU to push faster rates anyways and I'm not much of a shooter gamer anymore - RPG's and strategy mostly which don't require bleeding edge frame rates. My panel is also flat which I prefer and looked for as I use it instead of a dual monitor setup in some instances. I find 1800R to be a bit too much of a curve but am considering the 2300R of the 38" UW1600p panels which will be my next upgrade. Hopefully one of these units makes it into your review rotation. Big thumbs up!
Love your in depth monitor reviews! Would you be able to do a review on the Prism+ 165hz ultrawide? The price point of their monitors is very appealing but there are no good reviews out there.

I did not see that mode tested in this video, was it not available on your unit? The rtings website claims the unit they tested was manufactured in August of 2021.

@@kaisersolo76 for some people. I have two 34 inch monitors. One flat and one curved. I gave the flat one to the wife who complained about it after using my curved one whilst I was away. We both are fans of the curve.
@@ablet85 Each to their own, It's a little more immersive but you lose some quality round the edges. I went with M32Q and I have had no problem with the KVM. Its been a life saver with working from home. These are great monitors
I've had mine since release day. Been looking at an upgrade from my 29in. Then read the reviews and everyone rated it so highly. It's an amazing display, speakers sound decent for a monitor. 144hz, USB hub it's amazing.
The same for ASUS’ “new IPS technology” monitors? Really appreciate everything you guys have put together the past couple of years. Definitely the most informative UA-cam channel, feels like I’m watching a datasheet being visually explained to me in a manner that’s easy to digest for everybody.
Ahh 2 years later and it’s finally in my price range 😂
It is nice to see ultrawides are getting some love.
I personally still see them more as a production-type monitor than a gaming monitor though.
I do both on mine, and Halo Infinite, GOW PC, BFV, GTA V, Tomb Raider, Forza 5 all support 21:9 ultrawide and after playing FPS in that format its hard to go back to 16:9
Just picked this up. Thanks for the detailed information and recommendations.
Got this monitor back in December. Been loving it so far!
I know what you are saying, but I always hear "Bounce Mode" and now I want a bouncing monitor with flapping arms. My daughter would love it.
There's actually a website where you can compare screen sizes. I believe it's called "Display Wars", give it a try, it helped me out
34 inch 21:9 monitors are always 27 inch monitors with extra width.
Based on your review of the M32Q I got one. The KVM is really handy for using my work laptop, it's an excellent feature.
Could you please give me updates? Did you face any issues like dead pixels or weird issues?
I want to buy this monitor and im looking for some feedback.
@@Moe32244 I had one unit come faulty but I'm not sure if it was transit damage or not. The replacement has been good. The only issue other than that is the KVM sometimes doesn't recognise the active PC on power on, and you need to press the button.
@@rodneypearce6113 Do you think it’s worth it to purchase a warranty for it? My only concern is dead pixel or weird lines showing on screen…
Gigabyte’s RMA sucks but the retailer that I might buy the monitor will charge me extra $60 for free replacements
@@Moe32244 sorry I might not be able to help there. I suspect you're not from Australia so, here I just go back to the shop and they deal with it. Far superior IMO than individuals dealing with multinational companies.
I hope that this year we will get a huge push in the ultrawide market. I really want something bigger than the standard 34-38" with 240Hz+
It's long overdue.
50" 8k 360hz

Came here to thank for the hub essentials checklist. Unveliebable we have came to this... so again, thanks for that info and great way to present it.
Hopefully most of them have an option to use a VESA mount for a monitor arm.
great video ! thank you ! Do you think it can be enough for a photographer?
How this monitor competes with HP X34? Thanks for your work! Revealing vendors' bs you do is priceless 👍
I had an order of the M34WQ in place since Friday, meant to be delivered to store this friday. Saw a comment on the LTT video for this about the HP x34, which is £140 cheaper than I could get the M34WQ for. Expecting delivery in the next couple of days!
@@AFriskyPigeon How is it?
@@talzamir3542 Definitely worth it. Flawless thus far, superb value.
Thank you for honest review!
Been thinking of getting an Ultrawide for a while now. But I've been waiting for the QD OLED stuff to hit the market. After listening to you and MLID I think I may have to pull the trigger sooner then later.
Just yesterday orderd my 144hz gsync monitor from lenovo so excited i was gaming on a 1366x768 tv it is going to be awesome 👍
these are the best monitor reviews there are.
i hope you get a chance to test the ultra wide oled / neo (whatever marketing name they have) samsung monitors when they come out.
Been waiting on this review! Rtings gave it a thumbs up already.
Thank your the Review. I bought the Acer X35 because of your review some time ago.
The color I would've loved if the SRGB mode would match up with my Lenovo Legion 5 Pro (out of the box colors on the laptop is spot-on).
by far best monitor reviews on UA-cam
I got my 34gp83a on black Friday for $300 CAD off on black Friday. A bit more than this monitor but well worth it.
Hey just a suggestion, maybe you could play around with the idea of a darker background gradient for graphs? If you want. Maybe even have a darker Hardware Unboxed logo to go with it or something. That could be cool.
If only I had a gpu to drive these nice displays 🙄
You can always set the ultrawide to 16:9 and diminish its requirements
I bought an GB M27Q last year (december 2020) and I'm thinking if I made the right decision considering I only have a 1650 Super. I'm lagging very hard in Apex if I go with full resolution, so I have to turn on adaptive FPS to have playable frame rates
RX 6800 is enough should have kept the 3090 Founders Edition though but Vram was overheating and for 1549 Euros I don't expect that
@@triadwarfare just run your game in 1080p bro it's much better than looking at constantly changing textures and models with their adaptive fps implementation. You can also add a sharpening pass with NVidia filters on top to make non-native image look clearer
@@AlleonoriCat i do that, its actually not that bad except in fragment
KVM is the dealbreaker for me and there don't seem to be many gaming 21:9 monitors on the market that offers a built-in KVM.
The HUB essentials checklist is so useful!
Tim, I really appreciate your monitor reviews! Thank you :)
Tim, there's a HP x34 with the same panel, but atleast here in eu it is much cheaper, if you could get it in for a review that would be awesome.
As a 3d modeler, this is some fucking amazing news.
Another amazing review tim, thanks!
I own one of these, I bought it a couple months ago because my old monitor was failing, and it's a decent stopgap until cheap 42" QD-OLEDs come out.
A couple of things that I've noticed about mine that this review didn't mention:
1: The LED light on the bezel is obnoxiously bright.
Could you please give me updates? Did you face any issues like dead pixels or weird issues?
i was expecting this review, Tim is always on time lol
for sure i was shocked when i saw the price of this one, it's really hard to miss
i was literally gonna buy this and this confirmed my purchase
Hmmm
Due to quality control issues w LG I wouldn't recommend the 34850n though I was lucky to get 1 that worked .. your milage may vary. 1 stopped working after 2 yrs under regular use. Ty 4 another great review :) w no BS
Damn I've been thinking of getting an LG 34WN780-B or this 😅 What did you end up buying?
Also Acer Nitro xv342ckp uses same panel as this one, and its doing great so far, been using it for around 3 months daily.
Should definitely do a review of the AOC U34G3X. Similar to the already reviewed CU34G2X, but this one is a flat panel IPS!
Hope you see this comment. This kind of video and review is rare. Hope you make one.
Thank you for the review. HUB Essentials Checklist is a great feature! In the wake of recent HDMI 2.1 BS..., would you kindly add to the HUB Essentials Checklist HDMI 2.1 bandwidth for each product, so that we know what kind of signal could be pushed out of/into devices? Currently, there are four HDMI 2.1 chips on the market - 24 Gbps, 32 Gbps, 40 Gbps and 48 Gbps. Different companies install one of those four chips.
Any plans on reviewing the AOC AG274QXM? Its the first monitor to bring MiniLED HDR1000 to 1440p monitors.

can you make a review about the asus xg249cm?
i cannot find any reviews for it anywhere.

I would love a monitor like this a market segment up. I want to get into ultrawides but the curve doesn't suit my multi monitor set up. I'd just want this but with better colour performance and variable over drive then I'm joking the UW gang. Thanks again for the amazing review.
Been tempted with the Gigabyte M34WQ as it comes with AMD Free Sync, just been waiting for a decent review.
Now we need a review on the Philips 345M2R
Been using it for a few weeks now, it's great and I recommend it but the speakers are utter garbage, and I'm not saying it lightly. Literal e-waste.
Good to know. Thanks a lot!
I'd love if you reviewed some 1080p ultrawide monitors.
Wow, for this price?!
The effect on the market will be… _explosive._
I can watch this as many times I want, I always hear "bounced" instead of "balanced". Great review though!
Very nice, thank you for this review! Very interested in this one. Gigabyte's M series continues to be expanded into more decent offerings. Question: Some have reported a somewhat hazy coating on this one, which is less clear than is the norm these days. Can you confirm this?
Very nice job on the whole, always happy to watch.
I wish you could make a review of HP X34 monitor.
Great reviews as always guys. Love the channel. I was wondering when you will be reviewing the AORUS FI32Q X . Waiting out on that review before I buy the Asus ROG SWIFT PG279QM instead.
How about a look at the similar HP x34 IPS ultrawide?
i guess we will never get a "LG 27GP850-B vs pg279qm" video thanks hardware unbox...
I saw on the rtings website that this monitor also includes a Picture Quality overdrive mode, and that mode seems to be good for both high and low refresh rates. I did not see that mode tested in this video, was it not available on your unit? The rtings website claims the unit they tested was manufactured in August of 2021.
Any plans to do the 34GP950, love the new checklist by the way
Very helping video ! What do you think about the Huawei MateView GT 34 ? Is it a decent alternative ? I still hesitate between the gigabyte g34Wqc, the xiaomi mi curved 34 and the huawei mateview gt34 wich one should I buy ?
Goof review. However I just ordered the Dell S3422DWG 34" ultrawide monitor earlier today, it has been out for nearly a year and I am surprised you guys haven't reviewed it yet.
My dream- QD OLED 34 Ultrawide(or 42 widescreen) FLAT screen. One day...
Looks like a great monitor. I would recommend if your primary use is casual and gaming to try to look at flat 34 vs a curved 34 in person. I have the LG 34GP83A-B curved 34 ips ultrawide and love it. For gaming, the immersion is huge.
Would you recommend this over the Gigabyte M28U for Photo Editing and Productivity?
Excited to see the upcoming QD-OLED monitors! Hopefully we will get an ultrawide version of them this year
The samsung panels, as far is I know, only come in 21:9
Great video I loved how in depth it was new sub well earned, unfortunately at £500 a little out of my budget, I would love to see a review by you on the cooler master 34" gm34-cwq argb 144hz I know its a VA panel but if I want ultrawide, seems to be all I can afford.
Great review !
Unfortunately in Brazil we have only a few options, like the LG 34'' 1080p and the G5. No IPS 1440p options =[
My 29'' UW will hold until then
Will you be testing these new Prism monitors to see if they are actually good budget options ?
1 overdrive mode is what its all about, and the reason I will stick with my triple GL850's till they die.
Was just watching your AOC CU34G2X review and wondering if you would test the new AOC AGON CU34G3S?
However this also looks interesting.
