as someone who has been using a 24.5 inch 1080p 240hz monitor for the past 1.5 years (dell S2522HG), I recommend 1440p 27 inch monitor at 144-165 hz. There's a pretty decent different between the two refresh rates, but you need to consider the response times as well. Slow response times = blurry motion. 165hz monitors typically have faster response times, so if you are running a game at 144fps then you will be getting extra crisp motion clarity. if you play games like red dead redemption or cyberpunk then 144 would be perfectly fine, however the jump to 165 is pretty noticeable when playing games like Apex, Fortnite, or CSGO
In the specific case you are talking about, the notable difference between 144 and 165hz is not made by the 21 extra hertz you are getting from the monitor, but from the game itself, the online shooter games are very light games and can render +400fps (all depends on your graphic card), so depending on your monitor, you will be able to show all those frames per second... playing RDR2 at 1440p and ultra graphics with a 4090 will give you around 100-110fps... so no matter if your monitor is 300hz, the game is not sending all those 300 frames to your monitor to show them, and that's why you notice a reduction in the fluidity of movement between RDR2 and Fortnite or any other shooter game. If you want the same fluidity at RDR2, reduce the graphics settings of the game until the it renders +144 fps, so your 144hz monitor can show every frame of the game. Does it worth it? no... I don't think so, RDR2 is a movie like game, you enjoy it appreciating all the views and details... but you can try it, to prove this point, changing the settings even to minimum, just to match or surpass your monitor refresh rate to get a smoother motion.
Regarding stand flexibility, it's worth noting that since the vast majority of modern monitors have VESA 100x100 support, you can just get something with a basic stand and then remove it to attach a cheap VESA arm which adds tilt/rotation while also freeing up space underneath. I have owned many different monitors over the years for both gaming and productivity and the first thing I do after unboxing is to attach my VESA arm. I'd honestly be happy to buy monitors that include no stand in the first place (for a lower price).

I have been researching monitors for weeks now to go with my Series X and to be able to stream and not one video or article mentioned a few key definitions or overall helpful information like this one. Thank you so much for making this video!
Need help. Need monitor exactly like on MacBook (and for MacBook): - 220 ppi (for proper Mac OS scaling) - miniled or oled - DCI p3 color - 90/120hz, kinda pro motion (optional) - without curvature or alien-like shapes, preferably minimalistic made of aluminum - I don’t care about budget (for pro work)
Since Apple did not launch a M3 iMac, and I need an upgrade to replace my late 2014 5K iMac, I'm focused on the Mac Mini M2. Opinions aren't that easy to come by for a budget friendly alternative to an Apple display. You sure know your stuff, but I didn't really hear a suggestion for me (or work at home folks like me). We want as much real estate as we can get to do side by side word processing, photo editing, and browsing/research. For example, I'm a professor, and I need to read an online grade book on one side of the screen and input grades into a secure site on the other side. We also have to be able to conduct online classes with Brady Bunch conferencing screens, hosting Google Slides, embedded videos and a chat window. Which one of these in the $500 range (or less) works for us? (I wouldn't put you on the spot, but it's the summer and all my GenZs are on vacation until the Fall.)
i am using my moniter as a tv for broadcast on my amazon firestick and Nintendo switch and bluray player the only thing tvs have is the abilty to play 3d bluray discs and speakers so i had to use a sound bar and buy 3 port hdmi ports.
Can you tell us more about the PPI options available? My goals are: High ppi...high contrast.... true colors... but I'm NOT interested in blinding brightness. Great video, thanks!
I'm surprised you mentioned OLED for productivity with the text colour fringing problem and hardware unboxed recently doing a 1 year recap of Alienware's QD OLED discovering that burn in is slowly but surely settling in albeit it's only visible via the green channel atm it's still happening. Still absolutely amazing for gaming and media consumption but not perfect for productivity
There is a huge gap in all the reviews, everyone mentions gaming and pixel density etc, most have weirdo's running around shooting people ( not nice, some strange people out there think war is amusing) just about nobody puts the words: CORECT COLOURS! EVEN YOU SAID :- GAMING , BROWZING NETFLICKS , OR PROFESSIONAL COLOUR EDITING. so you came close, But I just want to know the colours I see are what I am supposed to see, especially for my family snap shots.
My budget is like $370 and I want a 1440p monitor 144Hz & 95% sRGB IPS it feels like not that many good options are available in the 1440p range while there are so so many good 1080p options, I want it for gaming and video editing btw I'm from India
I just got my first pc and my monitor was just given to me I'm going to college soon so hopefully my new monitor would last me my whole time in college I want to game more, and I will use my pc for school work too trying to find a monitor to replace the one I have now has been extremely confusing, thank you for this video!!

I think I have the same one actually, had it for a year or two now and it's awesome, the cool thing about 75Hz imo is that for example if a game is running at like 90fps you can still notice the difference in smoothness as opposed to a 60Hz display.
@@_AN94_ I'd say it depends on the size of the monitor, 24 inches is kind of the standard. I have a 27 inch and it's perfect for me, it even serves as a tv for me to watch movies from the bed xD. I don't really think there's any big downside to getting a monitor
Several years ha my apple has just bit the dust.... 24 years. I'm looking for a gaming monitor that's good for colour work adobe photoshop I design and play games.... Any recommendations?

I am looking specifically for a productivity monitor. I have 2, 24" monitors at work. I was going to get 2, 27" monitors until I learned of the 49" monitors now available. All things being equal, how does aspect ratio figure in? For example, 49 inch monitors all seem to be 32:9 vs 21:9 or 16:9 aspect ratios for most 27" monitors. I'm looking to be able to open 6-8 windows of various sizes at the same time. Dell makes a 49" but it isn't OLED and I need something that is going to reduce eye strain as much as possible, and be great for office applications, Salesforce, and web browsing. Not for gaming. Oh yeah, and something that does power and video over usb-c.
I went with 24 FHD (1.9K) an unbeatable value for monitors 1080p is the #1 most common res. worldwide esports professionals prefer this size larger than phone, tablet, portable monitor, laptop thin, lightweight, energy efficient
EDIT: I think I found my answer at 16:55. So I need a Thunderbolt 3 or 4 USB-C Port. Is it possible to run a monitor at 4k@120hz via USB-C from a MacBook Pro (M1 Pro) while charging with Power Delivery and also exchanging data (Ethernet, storage connected to the monitor, etc.)? Most monitors seem to be capped @60hz when connected via USB-C. I don't find any information if you can get higher framerates with USB-C/Thunderbolt.
Just 4 minutes in, already it's the video to watch before going shopping. BTW, 1080P Samsung S22E450 and 4K Samsung LU28R55 driven by ASRock Intel A380 at 60Hz.
I am on the market for a 4K gaming monitor, mainly for console gaming. As mentioned in the video, mini led is better than IPS and VA. At the same time, I don't want to break the bank, so there is the KTC 4K mini LED monitor. However I am not familiar with the brand whether it is a good option for longevity, so I am leaning more towards an LG UltraGear IPS monitor.
miniled is about the BACKLIGHT. It goes with both VA and IPS panels. MiniLED is mostly a marketing gimmick. I rather see a company invest in some dead stable wide gamut edge LEDs than spraying junk quality mini-LEDs over the entire surface, making dirty screen effect appearing to happen just in a matter of months. The contrast of IPS is junk, whether it is with local dimming by miniled or not. The problem with LEDs is they age based on hours-on. So if you adapt the backlight locally, ageing of the backlight will differ between parts of the screen. I doubt your screen has a calibration mode to realign the brightness of all miniLEDs every month. And even if it is possible, the weakest LED of the bunch will limit the overall brightness output.
All I need is a replacement monitor because my current monitor has to be booted every time I turn it on. So I unplug it then plug it back in. My guess is that I have had for too long. It’s a HP monitor, 22 inch. I have had it for about 15 years.
Yes - go all out on the Monitor - I did with the ACER X34A years ago & while my GTX 1070 at the time couldn't hit the constant 100 FPS @ 3440x1440 with high settings (I had to reduce them down for the 1070) I knew I would change my GPU & CPU every few Gen's - so I moved to a 1080TI & that was awesome (settings went up 😁) then later a 3080TI which I still use with the X34A today 👍 7 years I've had this monitor & it still does me fine for the type of games I play - no dead pixels or anything, maybe a little IPS glow (common) - but I never notice it unless a blank black screen is displayed - I have been looking for a monitor to upgrade to but the only one that grabs me is the LG Ultra Gear OLED 45 240Hz (ACER now do a version too - probably same panel), I like the Ultra Wide (but some fast games used to make me dizzy, motion sick lol) and I don't want 4k (still too much hard work even for top GPU's with latest Unoptimized games, especially if you add in Ray's & Fairy Farts from Nvidia) so 3440x1440 it is 👍👍 These Mini LED are similar to my new QLED TV - they get so bright they feel like they're burning my Eyeballs - I turned mine down 🤣🤣
I'm a creator and I'm in the market for a new monitor. In addition to the creator specs that you listed in this video, I'd also like to be able to stream things like Max and UA-cam TV to the monitor. Would you recommend that I look for a smart monitor that meets all of the creator specs or look for a creator monitor only and add something like an Apple TV to it? I hesitate to go for the "combo plate" because I generally find that tech that tries to do multiple things well tends to disappoint on most fronts. I also worry about the smart apps not being updated on a regular basis. The moral of the story is that having a high quality monitor is far more important to me than having a smart monitor. Thoughts on how to meet both goals?
I recently built a new system, very high end.. i9-13900KS (OC) - Asus ROG STRIX 4090 (OC), 96GB DDR5 5600 Ram - 1200W PSU - Lian Li Galahad II Cooler - 2x 2TB Samsung 990 Pro NVMe M.2 - Phanteks NV7 Case - 12x Lian Li SL Fans - And more.. The reason i'm telling you this is because i'm a gamer, I play competitive games like rust, overwatch, etc. I want to upgrade to a new monitor, not sure if it's worth going to 4k for fps reasons or not. But I definitely want to step up from my current Acer Predator XB272 1080 27". I want something between 27-34" That is top of the line. Such as the Alienware AW3423DW. I don't have a budget, whatever is best for my setup I will get. So my question to you is, what would you get? I play games like rust, overwatch 2, diablo 4.
Please advice which is best for reading, writing, with matte screen, easy on the eyes. I have Sony LCD but it is old. Mostly I need it for text. I write and read all day. Good quality photos is a plus. Do not game at all. But watch videos. Thank you!
I have a pair of 27" 4K Asus monitors and tbh, I never use them at more than 1440p. If I'd realised at the time, I would've stuck with 1440p and saved myself some money
acer has a 38.5" 2560*1440 curved one. for the price i'm tempted to buy one to try as a tv/monitor on the wall. (replacing a budget failed 40" tv). a QSM brand looks like they have the same product with their badging on it. neither have real reviews on it though.
How much of difference there will be between a True 10 bit monitor vs 8bit+FRC????? Also what other criterias to look for besides the sRGB/Rec.709 coverage for a creator??
What about curved vs flat screen? I know it's mostly preference but is one better than the other, for say, screen size or panel type? Or depends mostly on usage? Like curved is better for gaming while flat for productivity, editing, etc?
Curved s screens distort the image. “Better” is a subjective preference. Gaming is entertainment. I would never choose a curved screen for any reason because my work is production related, and accuracy is important for production work. But if playing games on curved screen makes the experience more fun for you, then I think there’s your answer.
I have a dedicated workspace and don't play video games. New employer sent me one large (27") monitor to start my job. I am not a techie. The model is DELL E2427HS. I am used to working with 2 monitors so I can move things around. On one large monitor (like the one I just rec'd), do you know if I can have several docs open on the one screen? Otherwise, I have no idea why they sent me only one monitor. It would not be an improvement for my job as an exec assistant. I often work between many docs at once. I haven't opened the box yet as I may want to send it back and stay with my 2 older monitors.
My Asus laptop’s bezel has snapped and bits of the lid have broken off, so rather than spend upwards of $150.00 on a new lid as well as labour on top of that, I’m looking to get a stand-alone monitor. There’s a lot of good information on this video for the newbie, but one question: Is it ok to buy a 32” monitor with 1920 x 1080 resolution or will this stretch the picture quality?
How about using a 43" 4K TV as a monitor? Seem to be a lot cheaper for what you get. The issue I see is flicker, which I cannot take even a little bit of.
Which 4K monitor would you buy to go with the Mac Mini? I'm looking for the best with a high refresh rate that works best with Mac Mini. Several options would be nice. (if you have a time to make a video on this)
OLED is not 100% compatible with VRR and causes flickering. I returned multiple OLED monitors because of this and went back to IPS. The only differce I could really spot was the pitch blacks, but SDR colors look exactly the same as IPS ( i don't use HDR I can see the colors shifting which is annoying). Edit: I do miss pitch blacks and zero backlight bleed though :(.
I tried HDR mode on my VIOTEK GFT27CXB 27-Inch Gaming Monitor it really sucks. The picture was very cloudy looking and bright. So I turned off the HDR. Monitor looks really good now. I plan on upgrading to a IPS 1440p 165hz monitor, but don't want spend no more than $400 on a monitor. Not sure what best monitor to get in that price range. Any suggestion on what to get?
I am getting a 144hz, 1440p 27 inch (flat) VA monitor soon. (Replacing my very old 21.5 inch 60hz 1080p ips) Contrast is what matters to me. Would get an OLED but those are expensive. (This one is $300, whereas same spec OLED is $1000+) Already got OLED on my phone and tablet and the IPS low contrast makes me sick. HDR is really about contrast/10 bit color, not brightness.

I have been researching monitors for weeks now to go with my Series X and to be able to stream and not one video or article mentioned a few key definitions or overall helpful information like this one. Thank you so much for making this video!
Hey Jay, I’m in the same situation. What monitor did you end up going with?
I was about to buy a new monitor that i didn't need. You saved me, thanks for the detailed explanations
3:02 was the moment that I pressed the Like button. Yeah, monitors are cool and all... but look at that beautiful kitty!
Need help. Need monitor exactly like on MacBook (and for MacBook):
- 220 ppi (for proper Mac OS scaling)
- miniled or oled
- DCI p3 color
- 90/120hz, kinda pro motion (optional)
- without curvature or alien-like shapes, preferably minimalistic made of aluminum
- I don’t care about budget (for pro work)
I subscribed to your channel last week and I'm loving the videos
thanks buddy!
@@wealthyluxuryvideos you should get 1440p
1:52 I don’t know, 3” sounds pretty good to me
There is a HUGE step up from 4k to 5k . Like from 1440p to 4k . I recommend the dell up2715k
What ? Hell no. Almost no difference between 4k and 5k
@@maxchopin409 yeah and you know 😄
Can you tell us more about the PPI options available?
We appreciate your reviews. Keep up the good work.
A very well deserved one million views for this guide. Super helpful and it’s easy to make bullet points on if you’re taking notes!
What monitor is that at 1:04 when you said “bearing in mind…”
It’s the 45” ultra wide
Should get a monitor after my pc or before
Wow. Thank you. One stop primer on monitor buying.
My budget is like $370 and I want a 1440p monitor 144Hz & 95% sRGB IPS it feels like not that many good options are available in the 1440p range while there are so so many good 1080p options, I want it for gaming and video editing btw I'm from India
I just got my first pc and my monitor was just given to me
I'm going to college soon so hopefully my new monitor would last me my whole time in college
I want to game more, and I will use my pc for school work too
trying to find a monitor to replace the one I have now has been extremely confusing, thank you for this video!!
Just wanted to say that I have been a long time subscriber and you always put out consistently great content! Keep up the great work, you have been my go to for anything tech!
Thanks! Really appreciate the nice feedback (especially after reading some not so nice comments!)

Bought an acer VA panel 27 inch 75 Hz 1080p and it cost me 150€ brand new! Im pleased
great price!
I think I have the same one actually, had it for a year or two now and it's awesome, the cool thing about 75Hz imo is that for example if a game is running at like 90fps you can still notice the difference in smoothness as opposed to a 60Hz display.
@@jodlaa5142 i dont have much money but i agree its still good especially for the price.
@@_AN94_ for casual play probably, but if you wanna get a bit more competitive you could use the low response times from monitors
As of now, i have it narrowed down to understanding that i need the tv thing we need in order to see what's on your computer

great help! you've described a lot of things in details for different types of users.
The information about the HDR certification tiers was really helpful. I am currently looking for a new monitor and this information will help me make an informed decision. Thanks!
Thanks for the vid. It is very informative. I have just spent 5 grant on a new PC and also bought the Samsung OLED G8, and am over the moon with it.

Thank you, I don't uunderstand all the variables yet but it's a starting point. 20 minutes well spended
G7 owner here. 1440p 240hz so worth it.
I've been using a 50 inch LG 4k TV as my monitor for the last 3 years. got everything on his video beat for my tase :)
I regret buying my 27 inch koorui which doesnt even have speakers😢
One two come on my schedules busy do things on time I’d like to Finnish everything in one day
Please add the Name of your recommendations In the descriptions. I am from Germany, and it’s annoying to change the Amazon shop just to see your recommendation.
Great video
"size really does matter" just subtle enough lol love this guy
I went with 24 FHD (1.9K) an unbeatable value
for monitors 1080p is the #1 most common res. worldwide
esports professionals prefer this size
larger than phone, tablet, portable monitor, laptop
thin, lightweight, energy efficient
EDIT: I think I found my answer at 16:55. So I need a Thunderbolt 3 or 4 USB-C Port.
Is it possible to run a monitor at 4k@120hz via USB-C from a MacBook Pro (M1 Pro) while charging with Power Delivery and also exchanging data (Ethernet, storage connected to the monitor, etc.)?
Most monitors seem to be capped @60hz when connected via USB-C.
I don't find any information if you can get higher framerates with USB-C/Thunderbolt.
Great reviews. Do 49" displays have the same screen height as 27"?
Best tech channel on youtube for me personally. Keep up the good work!
amazing work one of the channels I always look into when I am buying monitors!!
Ooo how can I get the color changing cloud desktop background you have at 3:02 :O
Favourite video of yours so far!
thank you!
Thank you!
thanks this really helps me out for choosing my next monitor
Perfect! Pleased I could help
Thank you for updating this to 2023.
Excellent excellent video, thank you! I love being empowered to do my own best purchase through knowledge.
you are very good at explaining this.....there is a lot to get your head around...THX
Just checked and 2 of your suggestions are not available
Great vid! I learned quite a bit. I'm probably going buy one of the monitors off Amazon you recommended. Thanks for the vid..
sRGB, adobeRGB, DCI-P3 are not colour accuracy measurement. It only tell you your monitor colour range.
I have a pair of 27" 4K Asus monitors and tbh, I never use them at more than 1440p. If I'd realised at the time, I would've stuck with 1440p and saved myself some money
+1
acer has a 38.5" 2560*1440 curved one.
for the price i'm tempted to buy one to try as a tv/monitor on the wall. (replacing a budget failed 40" tv). a QSM brand looks like they have the same product with their badging on it. neither have real reviews on it though.
I search for a monitor to buy and run into your channel. Ever since I am a great fan. 😅
My 27 inch iMac has a 5K monitor. Just fabulous with zero eye strain...
27 inch not recommended for 4k? At 160 ppi? @ 5ms "Higher the number the sharper the screen" 3:53
I haven't opened the box yet as I may want to send it back and stay with my 2 older monitors.
i love curve and ultra wide monitors my cup of tea
My Asus laptop’s bezel has snapped and bits of the lid have broken off, so rather than spend upwards of $150.00 on a new lid as well as labour on top of that, I’m looking to get a stand-alone monitor. There’s a lot of good information on this video for the newbie, but one question: Is it ok to buy a 32” monitor with 1920 x 1080 resolution or will this stretch the picture quality?
Your hard-work on this video earned a subscribe, thanks for making this.
Woah this was the best video for explaining everything I needed
How about using a 43" 4K TV as a monitor? Seem to be a lot cheaper for what you get. The issue I see is flicker, which I cannot take even a little bit of.
wish you had a top 3 for different budgets, I'll look on Amazon now...
This channel is worth watching for the positive energy the gentleman exudes 🎉.
Which 4K monitor would you buy to go with the Mac Mini? I'm looking for the best with a high refresh rate that works best with Mac Mini. Several options would be nice. (if you have a time to make a video on this)
4:48 does all lets say 42 inch full hd tvs have same ppi?
Hi Tom, I'm a doctor, need a monitor for the home office. Ideally I'd like a portrait one to read my journals and another to do some gaming, research for excel spreadsheets and just Web based search. Do you think having a portrait and landscape ones make sense or a wide-screen? You thoughts please. Thank you
