Thank you so much for reacting to Still of The Night. My husband passed away in 2018 of cancer, he was only 57. This was his favorite song of the 80s. When I hear this song it feels like he's with me listening to it. 😢❤
Sykes is awesome. Never got enough credit. This album was his baby, and di not tour to support it. I believe Adrienne Van Denberg and Vivian did the tour and the video....by most accounts, Coverdale is dickhead. Unfortunately, Sykes has little interest in performing..too bad...Blue Murder had a few great albums
Funny factoid Vivian Campbell did not play guitar on this album only in the video John Skyes was a guitar player and one song with Adrian Vandenberg Tommy Aldridge didn’t play the drums on the song only in the video - Ansley Dunbar was the drummer on the album Rudy Sarzo also didn’t play bass on this album only in the video Neil Murray was the basis on this album Crazy but true
@@billc.5861 …I think this album was mostly Sykes baby…lyrics and music. But Coverdale, somehow, dicked over Sykes, and replaced him with Vandenberg and Campbell for the tour and the videos. My recollection is vague, it was 35 years ago. But Sykes was a great talent, a great player and a good voice. I prefer the Blue Muder albums to any of the WhiteSnake albums with Van den Berg, Campbell or Vai . WS never had a better than the Sykes album…in my opinion…..all great players, but the Sykes album was their masterpiece, and the Sykes influence was sorely missed on their other albums…in my opinion.✌️🎸

Whitesnake is David Coverdales band after Deep Purple broke up in 1976. He was joined by Ian Pace on drums and John Lord on keyboard from Deep Purple, Neil Murray on bass and Mickey Moody and Bernie Marsden on guitars. That was the first official live setting of Whitesnake that played a very blues based hard rock. This is the 1987 setting with a bit more on the early metal/hard rock style. The model Tawny Kitaen from the video, ended up marrying David Coverdale. They were married between 1989 and 1991. She died at her home in 2021 of a heart disease.
Well to be honest, it was the two of them together. Coverdale and Sykes just couldn't get along. This was just the start of them two, just sucks there isn't more from them two. Fricken masterpiece right here. Right out the gate.
Summer of '87, my sister and I cruising in my mom's Ford Pinto heading to Circle In The Square in Shreveport to see Pantera, with this song blaring as loud as a Ford Pinto could crank. I'll never forget it. A great time to be alive and young!
The guitar player behind this song was John Sykes. He had another cool band where he sang and played guitar called Blue Murder. Riot - Blue Murder is a cool song to react to.
Slide it in album early 80's fire all of it Slide it in Spit it out Slow and easy earlier back in 70's Ain't no love in the heart of the city blues rock here I go again, They've been out forever. I could write. Great songs till my fingers wore off one of my all time.Favorite bands
I saw them in Dallas when they were promoting SLIDE IT IN. David Coverdale joked that his mom asked if their next album would be all love songs? He said it would be a lovely collection of love songs, and the album title will be "PULL IT OUT, WIPE IT OFF AND SLIDE IT BACK IN AGAIN."
Love this song, one of the best of the 80s! It is a total blast to play on guitar, just has tons of attitude and fun riffs. Check out "Here I Go Again" next!
John Sykes was the guitarist on this album, love his sound and style so much, he made this Whitesnake album so epic with his talent as a song writer. He is phenomenal. After Whitesnake he went on to form the band Blue Murder and really further showed his talent as both guitarist and vocalist and he pushed his epic song writing skills to the max, their self titled debut album is still one of my all time favorite albums… Their second album Nothin’ but Trouble had a bit of a different feel in some of their songs, but still a really really great album…
Tawny was an actress and model. She was in a relationship with David Coverdale who sings lead vocals. You will see Tawny in a few Whitesnake videos. Rip Tawny. She was a beautiful lady. ❤
With long time members leaving, David carried the name Whitesnake with him and built this 'supergroup'. I saw this tour and enjoyed seeing veteran musicians from other groups all together with David completely owning this album. David also has comedic chops as he grabbed a drink and stepped up to the microphone while the rest of the band took a small break halfway through the show. He proceeded to tell a few dirty jokes which had the guys laughing and the ladies giggling. I got my money's worth.
"Here I Go Again" -- Whitesnake. Also, Coverdale, the lead singer of WS did an album with Jimmy Page, in 1992-3ish, called Coverdale & Page worth checking out as well.
You were mentioning the bow he was playing in the video.Yes they were influenced by Led Zeppelin. And yes like he said also did an album with Jimmy Page.
Great song & very intense music video from the great Whitesnake. There are 2 other big hits from them also that need your ears. 1. Here I go again & 2 Is this Love. Awesome heavy metal love ballads.❤❤❤🎻🎸🎸
Here I go again. Slide it in slow and easy, spit it out. Aint no love in the heart of the city. I can name songs by these guys all day long. One of my all time favorite bands.
This album is one of the best rock albums I have ever heard. The lead guitar player John Sykes the following year formed the band Blue Murder. Their debut album is phenomenal. Sykes is a true guitar god, and a great singer.
David Coverdale, in my opinion, was one of the best frontmen ever. He had a way of working the stage and the audience. They originally started as more blues/rock in Europe and Japan in the late 70's and early 80's. They got pretty big over there but Coverdale had a habit of rotating out the other members of the band. Some from artistic disagreements, others from legal reasons. I think it gave Coverdale a new set of creative players to work with and kept his music fresh. Songs you need to listen to: Here I go again Is This Love Slide It In Slow and Easy Deeper The Love Fool for Your Loving
My all time favourite song, it has been on my journey of life since 1987. Love the groove, blink in the eye-attitude, cockiness, the solo that builds up, just everything. I think David Coverdale is one of the most takented frontmen of alltime.
Whitesnake was around since the 70's. They were a blues/rock band mostly. Their newer albums from like 2005 forward are all really good! They got back to their blues rock roots and the band(s) Coverdale assembled, and re-assembled, were all amazing musicians!
great reaction guys... still one of my favorite guitar rifts ever especially the way he plays it with a bow for that solo. coverdale also has one of those rare voices that can stay somewhat deep even on the high notes. recommend "here i go again" and "is it love" from same album and yes you get more tawny... enjoy! 😎
When at the concert ages ago they shot a purple laser at the Guitar that had the voilin bow on it... I was umm so (puff) out of it the first 3 songs where blank. Great Concert
John Sykes was first part of the group Tygers of Pan Tang in the very early 80's (British Metal) and then spent time with Thin Lizzy from which came their heaviest album "Thunder and Lightening". He is remarkably skillful at constructing melodic rock tracks (and has a great singing voice) but probably has never been given the credit he deserves.
They got big and left the tour by the time they went to Florida....they were replaced by a somewhat unknown band at the time....Guns N Roses. I saw them headline a few months later with Great White opening.
John Sykes co-wrote and played guitar on this song. Sykes was also the guitars from the band Tygers of Pan Tang as well as for Thin Lizzy on theor "Thunder and Lightning", an killer album that rocked! Sykes also played the guitar with a bow in the solo, a la Jimmy Page. Check out the song Slow 'an Easy off Whitesnake's "Slide It In" album. More of a blues rock song. Megadeth had been around before this song came out. If you want to hear something that will melt you face off, listen to "The Conjuring".
Whitesnake has a strong catalog of music and while I love all of it please don't overlooked their pre-87 albums. Most people want to hear songs off this album because it's their most popular but the older albums have a bluesier edge with great songwriting. Rock On!
One of my favorite guitar players is Vivian Campbell. He was in Whitesnake for a few years and in this video. He was also Dio's lead guitarist on his first 2 albums. In 1992 he joined Def Leppard after Steve Clark died and been with them since. Whitesnake.... Slow and Easy Here I Go Again Slide It In Love Ain't No Stranger Fool for Your Loving Crying In the Rain
I’m a huge Tommy fan , first saw him with Pat Travers band around 1977 at a concert called “Day on the Green “. Oakland Colosseum. He did a barehanded drum solo , that was so damn cool for a high school drummer to see . Ansley Dunbar was the drummer on the album - Tommy did this video But when I play this song I still do the goofy drumstick twirls . Cant help myself. 😂.
@@billc.5861 I first saw him with "Black Oak Arkansas" in Camdenton, Missouri- Lake of the Ozarks at a 3 day concert with "James Gang" "Brownsville Station" and a bunch of others in 1975. First time seeing his "Hands" solo as well! I can't twirl anymore. Not as old as he is by 2 years but physically disabled.
I was about 13 when this song came out, and in my opinion it ushered in that period from 1987-1991 that people like me absolutely adore but some other people not so much. It had been building up but everythng exploded that summer of 1987. Def Leppard's Hysteria came out then too and it was a 4 year period of dominating MTV (until Nirvana showed up). But as a kid in junior high this song and video was like nothing I'd ever seen and gripped me in the genre for life.
There was a kid that actually did this cover on American Idol, believe it or not? He nailed it too. I think his name was Caleb Johnson. He was a unique character for American Idol. He did Zeppelin, Dazed And Confused, he even did a Rush song, Working Man, that had to be a first for Idol, someone doing Rush. I think he won that season.
My hometown boy Mike Devin played bass for Whitesnake for 10 years (2010-2020). Coverdale is a sweet, classy gentleman with pipes of gold (though getting rusty as he ages). A good example of a song that shows his matured voice is Forevermore from 2013. Great heavy ballad
The drummer was Tommy Aldridge..the old drummer for OZZY OSBOURNE back in the day...awesome drummers always move on to make a living at what they love to do..great job reacting guys !!!
This was such a good time to be growing up and listening to the rock music of this time. Women could be sexy and men could be masculine, and life was exciting, less prohibitive and we were allowed to have fun. I wish that our later generations could experience that freedom.
@irishflink7324 Haha, you gotta be kidding me! David Coverdale joined Deep Purple in 1973, he was with them till they split in 1976. He did 2 solo albums, White Snake, and Northwinds before forming Whitesnake in 1978.
Love seeing younger peeps discover these old easy listening tracks. Just remember next time you see the old lady or man in their 60's, who you assume never did anything.. This was our world back then lol
behold the legendary John Sykes on guitar, the unrivaled master of speed and emotion. So damn badass. Search "Crying in the rain live 1985" to see how flawless he is even in live performance.
Just to add, David Coverdale, the vocalist, was married to Tawny Kitaen '89-'91.. She was in a few of their most popular hits. One of my favs didn't get near the airplay as their bigger hits, "Kittens got Claws". May want to check it out sometime.
I'd say it is more 80s hard rock/metal-ish, but since it was one of their heavier songs I can see where there's some thrash metal elements or riffs that can pass for that style. The lead singer David Coverdale was around since the 70s and had a brief stint in legendary 70s hard rock band Deep Purple. He formed Whitesnake as a bluesy rock band in the late 70s and then transitioned their sound to this cross between adult contemporary pop and hard rock which is what their signature sound is for the most part IMO. And yes, as others already mentioned, the model in the video was his girlfriend (possibly wife for a while) back then. She was in several more of their videos. Check out "Here i Go Again" and "Is This Love" if you haven't already.
@@umainebearman some of the chugga chugga riffage stuff in this song could be seen as a proto-thrash-esque prequel of sorts. But generally not most songs. I consider Whitesnake 80s hard rock meets adult contemporary.

Tawny Kitaen was just dangerously, unreasonably, irresponsibly beautiful.
It should be sinful to look that sexy.

One of my favs didn't get near the airplay as their bigger hits, "Kittens got Claws". May want to check it out sometime.
I used to play this across the tanks intercom for the platoon ❤
Had this cassette on all the time in 7th grade
Classic band brilliant songs 😊
There's literally nothing in this song or any White snake song that resembles thrash. 😂😂
@@umainebearman some of the chugga chugga riffage stuff in this song could be seen as a proto-thrash-esque prequel of sorts. But generally not most songs. I consider Whitesnake 80s hard rock meets adult contemporary.
Tawny Kitaen was also in the Tom Hanks movie Bachelor Party from 1984. This album was released in 1987
Now You're Gone by Whitesnake! 😎🔥🤘🎸
