It's why I've been subbed to these guys for so long. This one was hard to take though, it's one of the songs that got 13-year-old me into rock music. I agree it's over-produced and a lot of otherwise good 80s music does have that "cheese" factor. It's probably the era that's hardest to judge objectively. Late 70s/early 80s Whitesnake might sound a bit more "authentic" if they ever get a second chance.
Yeah these guys bring me back to when i heard these songs for the first time , they're definitely genuine with their reactions and you can tell when they really enjoy something. Plus they have come a long way from when they first starting giving their opinions , they actually critique the music correctly. I think i was around 21 when this came out , this was a little to polished for me but i still liked it. I got into them from listening to the live album they released and Slide it in , i was really into that album even though i was into the metal and thrash. I liked the bluesy rock feel it had....
Yes but for those of us that were headbangers / metal heads in the 80's we can see where they miss some things. Like Whitesnake was always correlated to Led Zeppelin. Nothing to do with Aerosmith.
Yo i just heard with you guys this song for the 2074th time in my life. It rocks like hell. I totally enjoyed it like the first time. I totally respect your opinion guys. I just happen to totally disagree. This is the rock we all wanted to hear. The delivered what everyone was demanding back then. And they did such a great job. Big hugs brothers.
Fact is, this came before all the glam bands got big. The lyrics are just terrible, and glam followed this too. Children Of The Night was my favorite track 🤘
@Jack Slacker me neither and I love this song. This song is riff heavy, has a great melody, and an amazing bridge. It's really the only Whitesnake song I like. Regardless, it's all subjective and it's ok. I hope you're doing amazing 😁
They did a shitty reaction to Zeppelin's Stairway To Heaven. You see anything that requires some patience in understanding a buildup in the piece is where Lost In Vegas is weak. And they aren't schooled enough in Led Zeppelin but there is always hope for them.
This song is tough for me. You’re right on with the cheese factor. “Feel your body heat”? Please. But the breakdown in the middle with those orchestral stuff and then the guitars coming back with the solo… may be my favorite section of any 80s hair metal song.
This was definitely a banger in my younger days and chicks loved it. It was kind of over the top but musically had the right stuff. MTV's best days! RIP Tawny Kitaen
You're kinda close about the cheese / over-production there were many metal bands trying to rise up and they had to use some input from the record companies. This was when the corporate influence on hard rock and metal was peaked in it. The band they didn't realize that influenced this the most is Led Zeppelin. At the time everyone commented this, make sure you look for the video it was played to death on MTV.
I completely understand how you feel. If it's not your flavor, it's not your flavor. Especially at your current ages. This song came out in 1987. I loved the song at the time. I was almost 20, and fairly immature. So this was the shit for most everyone who liked rock back then. It's more nostalgic to me now. Not in my Playlist but would let it play if it comes on the radio. Brings back memories of the time more than love for the song. Keep up the reactions. I'm ready for more.
The problem with reacting to old stuff, you don't get to experience it for what it was back then. So sure, it may well sound like a prototypical rock song now, but back in the day the majority of us were all over this and loved every brilliant second of it!
Many of us also liked Led Zeppelin though and these guys gave Stairway To Heaven a bad reaction review. Of course that one has a slow buildup but you can't keep stopping the video to make a comment right before it's about to get faster or go into a change it kind of messes it up. That's what happened there and that's the same with this reaction.
@@mickward7769 Sure and because hip hop and or rap is just boom - there ya go. Nothing progressive about it. It takes a little patience to appreciate classic and progressive rock and metal. These guys rated more Metallica and Megadeth just jumping right in but Whitesnake is different and so is Zeppelin. really they are hard rock bands, and for that foundation it's not just Aerosmith and Deep Purple. It's Led Zeppelin and they simply did not react to enough Zeppelin tunes. Zeppelin was a game changer and these guys missed it.
@metalmike570 I agree. I'm not hating on anyone, but rap and hip-hop is pretty basic and nowhere near the talent of rock and metal. Especially nowadays with the auto tune and computers, basically making all the music. The Rock bands with playing actual instruments and composing the songs take a lot more talent, in my opinion.
The MIGHTY John Sykes on guitar...checkout his 1985 Crying in The Rain solo in Rio with Whitesnake (he was previously in Thin Lizzy prior to joining David Coverdale)

What I really, really appreciate is the honesty that you both emulate. If you're not down with the sound, you say it, and you always say it with respect. I've never been disappointed with a reaction. Awesome breakdowns and dissection every time. Keep rockin'!
John Sykes played the guitar on this album. Yes, it was very commercial, but Sykes' guitar playing is damn good. He actually plays the guitar with a bow, a la Jimmy Page. Sykes also played with Thin Lizzy on the phenomenon "Thunder and Lightning" album as well as with the Tygers of Pan Tang. Check out some earlier Whitesnake, like "Slow and Easy". Very bluesy.
It's familiar because it's essentially a heavy Led Zeppelin tune modernized with hair spray and spandex. David Coverdale had a lot of Robert Plant in his style. Plant called him "David Cover-Version."
Whitesnake was in its prime here! Killer lineup too. You should check "Lonely Days, Lonely Nights" from their 1981 album, "Come an' Get It" Love their bluesy vibes.

Didn’t George and Ryan react to Black Dog by Led Zeppelin. That must be the song they are thinking of as previously mentioned. The singer sings when the music pauses then the singer pauses while the musicians play and then repeat.
This album defined the start of rock in the early 80s the solo in Crying in the Rain is punishing to play and a beast of a solo... Still of the Night is one of the original rock epics

You don't act like you've never heard of AC/DC or whatever and you don't act like you love every song just to get the approval of the fans of the song/genre.
When George talks about "Walk This Way" I'm not sure if he's talking about the original or the version with Run DMC. I think it's important to remember, it was solely an Aerosmith song first and then Run DMC covered it with Aerosmith on the assist around the same time that MTV was still a newborn baby of a channel. It worked out well for both band and group and was a big part of hip-hop establishing it's commercial viability early on. I know its probably the first time this whiteboy heard a hip hop track in his life and I can't be alone. Even if you don't like it sonically, it should be appreciated for the impact the song had.
Sykes is such an amazing guitarist. Vibrato as wide as the grand canyon, blazing speed, and an instantly recognizable sound. But the band that recorded this isn't the touring band. The band that Dave put together for this tour was supposedly his dream band of all heavy hitters. I saw them on this tour twice and they were phenomenal. I also saw them on the follow up tour with Steve Vai and that too was amazing. Hey, you guys should check out and possibly do a reaction video of Steve Vai's "Teeth of the Hydra". But you would need to watch the video to do the reaction. His hydra guitar is triple-necked, with a half fretless 12 string, a 7 string with a tremelo, a half fretless bass, and 13 sympathetically resonating harp strings, and additionally some crazy onboard effects....and he plays the whole damn thing at once. It's SICK! Check it out at least.
I heard this song in the mid 2000' for the first time. I had been listening to much metal stuff and various guitar sounds before hearing this for the first time. This direct and killer guitar sound was way ahead its time, and its a 1987 production. The mid part in the song is just killer. In a time when 99% of the reaction channels on UA-cam are just nodding along to the song and then saying "that sure was a thing, anyway hit that like button", I definitely appreciate a channel that gives honest feedback.
Couldn't agree more. Subscribe to this channel, but I do love this song!
John Sykes' sound, tone, and playing on this cut is the best thing about it. It jumps out of the speaker and says "I'm right f***ing here!"
they were compared to Led Zeppelin back in the day, 1987 was an amazing year. feel sad for those who missed it.
Kingdom clone was the biggest Zepp imposters ever back then , now it's Greta Van Fleet .....
Appetite, Crazy nights next year ...And Justice
Lol I was only 8 or 9 years old then
@@christophercasson4235 ????
In the US only.
In europe and Japan , we knew they weren't sknce 1978
This album was my gateway drug into hard rock/metal back in the day! 🤘🏻
I'll have to second that. Even if I don't like it as much now, it was huge back then.
Fact is, this came before all the glam bands got big. The lyrics are just terrible, and glam followed this too.
Children Of The Night was my favorite track 🤘
It was a great song, just very much a product of its time. I still enjoy it, but it doesn't surprise me that a new listener wouldn't "get it".
True
I was 12 when this came out.. This 1 and Crying in the Rain are incredible!
I’ve actually been waiting for someone to request this.
Man this is a great song. Singer has a great voice.
Sick riffs, great groove, amazing solo ...i don't give a shit about the cheesiness! This song is banger,no pun intended. 😂
Sometime you get things wrong on the first listen. A classic example right here as this is an 80's Rock Classic.
I can't help it.
I *LOVE* every single part of this song! 😀
I wouldn't change a single thing.
SAME
Your response to this really surprised me, I thought this tune was gonna blow you guys away, but it is what it is(like ya say)🤘🤘
What made you think that?
I expected the opposite.
@@jack-of-all-trades1234 bcuz it's an absolutely amazing song that most people really like?
@@MetalRob81
That's not what I meant.
This channel has rejected similar music before. Why was it a surprise? They don't even like Led Zeppelin.
Its a perfect song, It delivers exactly what you think it will only more.
Whitesnake has BANGERS
This song is tough for me. You’re right on with the cheese factor. “Feel your body heat”? Please. But the breakdown in the middle with those orchestral stuff and then the guitars coming back with the solo… may be my favorite section of any 80s hair metal song.
But feeling body heat is so f good tho lmao. u should try, and try to smell body too. 😂
It's amazing! Gives me the feels every time
Quit being a simp Bryan. This song rules and these guys completely missed the boat here.
@@steelerfreak1977 lol, I’m no simp. I had this album on tape back in ‘87. This song is great. But they’re right, the lyrics are cheese.
Yes, over-produced and ripping off Led Zeppelin all over the place.
The first time I heard this song was with the music video on MTV. Trust me, it colored a lot of our opinions of song with my generation.
This was definitely a banger in my younger days and chicks loved it. It was kind of over the top but musically had the right stuff. MTV's best days! RIP Tawny Kitaen
I think it’s the very thick reverb and echo they’re picking up on, something that lots of 80’s rock and metal bands exploited.
Exactly!
Also CHEESE 🧀🧀🧀 lol
The big hall reverb seems to be exaggerated on the 30th Anniversary version. It’s not as pronounced on the original 1987 pressing.
This is a Led Zep style rocker with heavier guitar.... Killer song and huge crowd pleaser live in concert. John Sykes on lead guitar is a monster.
13:00 still gives me chills. The birth of the metal breakdown!
@@metalmike570 Very good point mike 👍
@@mickward7769 Sure and because hip hop and or rap is just boom - there ya go. Nothing
progressive about it.
That solo is metal heaven..so complex..and underrated
You two are awesome. I'm fairly confident that your channel is the 1st of the reactors that I started listening to many moons ago.
Right or Slide It In - is more these guys speed.
Nah guys, this song is iconic, ya’ll missed on this one….listen to this bad boy in the car a few times, you’ll see. Just don’t blow your speakers.
It's familiar because it's essentially a heavy Led Zeppelin tune modernized with hair spray and spandex. David Coverdale had a lot of Robert Plant in his style. Plant called him "David Cover-Version."
Never understood why though. They're so different vocally. Coverdale got more Paul Rodgers in him than Plant.
Give Bad Boys a listen off this same album. John Sykes going off for four minutes. That song rips.
Song is great, but the video was straight FIRE
Overthinking it guys! This track is an iconic tune in the metal scene. 🤘🔥
Whitesnake was in its prime here! Killer lineup too. You should check "Lonely Days, Lonely Nights" from their 1981 album, "Come an' Get It" Love their bluesy vibes.
Everything from ‘Slide’ and before is quality 👌
I’m new to your channel and like the fact that you didn’t like this song and were not afraid to tell us you you didn’t like it AND explained why you didn’t. I’ve watch many other reaction channels and you can tell when hosts didn’t like something or were not felling it, yet still gave a song a thumbs up. Love the honest reaction. I still love this song and respect your opinion and explanation. Keep the journey going.
Led Zep’s Black Dog is likely the vibe you’re getting. A few LZ “tributes” here. Black Dog, Whole Lotta Love, maybe some Kashmir.
And immigrant song
And Coverdale has always tried to channel Robert Plant, from overall look to vocal sound.
Dude on the right called Black Dog an imposter song. Like, what?
Didn’t George and Ryan react to Black Dog by Led Zeppelin. That must be the song they are thinking of as previously mentioned. The singer sings when the music pauses then the singer pauses while the musicians play and then repeat.
This album defined the start of rock in the early 80s the solo in Crying in the Rain is punishing to play and a beast of a solo... Still of the Night is one of the original rock epics
Here I Go Again was another hit off the same album so that's another one.
I do have to say I prefer the earlier version of "Here I go Again", it's got a bluesier feel.@@metalmike570
@@celorfiwyn8193 Yeah there is one that's over-produced .... I think David doesn't hit that high note on it either. I don't know why they made that one.
Well the original one was recorded for the album "Saints and Sinners", came around -82. The MTV version was record for the -87 album, same album as Still of The Night.
@@metalmike570
I don’t know anyone that doesn’t like this song. You guys are now the first.
this is like a couple of guys who were raised on classical music reacting to 'Who Shot Ya' by Jadakiss, and not having a clue
This is the most Zeppelin song they do. If you swapped out Coverdale for Plant and give the instruments a 70s rock feel it translates almost seamlessly.
There most Zep song is Judgment Day… it’s practically a cover song.
I'm definitely getting Black Dog vibes from the singing intro
No wonder Coverdale and Page did an album together... and made the intro riff to Aerials from SOAD back in 1993. ;)
The song is called "Whisper a prayer for the dying"
For real!
Steve Marriott wants his voice back.
One of my favorite albums from that Era, such a bluesy badass album.
Killer song by a killer band on a killer album 😉 I don't see the "template" though 🙄
Ah… to be a teenager in the 80’s 🎸
Their template was trying to sound like Led Zeppelin & Coverdale is obviously trying to be like Robert Plant. This is a great song though. Their one and only
@@khworker1322
Why doesn't rap music ever receive this kind of criticism when there are literally thousands of songs with essentially the same exact beat or slight derivations?
Rappers even copy slang terms from one another relentlessly.
This song is a masterpiece in the history of rock!!
Hey guys, John sykes was playing guitar on this track ,he is a really great guitarist
He also played with THIN LIZZY on their final album -thunder and lightning -please react to the song COLD SWEAT from thin Lizzy , sykes shreds on this song .plus it has" las Vegas" in the chorus .great song that was covered by Megadeth .great channel guys 🤘
I agree would love to see them go through Thin Lizzy.
"Cold Sweat" is a criminally underrated song. Great guitar riff and Phil Lynott's bass playing is damn fine as well.
💯!! Awesome !!
I was about to go to sleep then i saw you guys posted, love the content and been a fan for years < 3 This song is about that banging riff and atmosphere, I like it the same way I like CRAZY NIGHTS by LOUDNESS.
All them Whitesnake videos that featured Tawny Kitaen made me feel some kinda way as a preteen 🤣😂🤣😂
This is one of my favorite tunes to warm up to playing guitar. Loved it at 12 yrs old and love it at 47 lol
I had a Whitesnake button on my jean jacket in 1988
The elements you're speaking of are exactly what propelled Whitesnake to the top of the charts along with Def Leppard and a bit later with GnR in 87/88.
This ENTIRE album is NASTY..it defined my senior year of high school. There is not a skip on this album.
Wow!!! I thought FOR SURE you two were going to love this. Blown away that you don't. To each his own, but you're wrong!!! Lol. This song friggin rocks.
I saw them live in the 80's. They opened for Mötley Crüe. Great live performance
Love you guys! Such a pleasure to watch.
Cheese is not what I've ever heard this song described as. It's one of the best of its type. A top guitar riff of all time.
Hear hear!
Wow, you guys blew this one.
Dude! You can't deny the musicianship and intricacies and great riffs and vocals
For these guys they should listen to Slide It In, title track off of another Whitesnake song. It's simpler so I think they would like it!! It really rocks though.
I mean it's the title track off the album Slide It In.
I respect your honesty. It's why you're the only reaction channel I watch every now and then. This is what separates you from all the other posers. If you don't like it, you say so. You don't act like you've never heard of AC/DC or whatever and you don't act like you love every song just to get the approval of the fans of the song/genre.
Blue Murder should be next...John Sykes is guitar tone personified🤘
Coverdale was a master at image... this is what killed metal and gave space to grunge
Valley of the Kings is so good
Valley of the kings!!!!!!!!!
John Sykes guitar playing on Thin Lizzy’s last album “Thunder and Lightning” ❤❤
I heard this song in the mid 2000' for the first time. I had been listening to much metal stuff and various guitar sounds before hearing this for the first time. This direct and killer guitar sound was way ahead its time, and its a 1987 production. The mid part in the song is just killer. Sorry guys, as others have mentioned before, somehow you've missed the essence of this masterpiece.
One of the greatest rock songs of the 80s. Blasted it on my stereo!!
This album was HUGE. Sadly the band that recorded it never played any of it live together.
They didn’t ? Why not ?
@@josephpalagonia7084 Bassist Rudy Sarzo did the tour along with Tommy Aldridge (Drums) and Sykes was replaced because David Coverdale fired him. I forget but there was a big argument between John Sykes and David, but David is the front man and had the rights to the Whitesnake name so Sykes got fired!! I can't name the guitarist that replaced him for the tour though without researching it.
@@metalmike570 Neither Sarzo or Aldridge played on the album.
@@rooster6 I know, I was saying they were the rockers on tour.

Keep it real. A song created for 80s radio. 😊
Of course and it did get some radio play but it's long for a radio cut. So Here I GO Again
was their radio tune off the same album. However, Still Of The Night was a video smash on MTV.
One of my favs by Whitesnake!! The video is incredible!!! Great times in the 80’s and early 90’s !! The Altro is 🔥🔥🔥
it always reminded me of a mix between "Diary of a Madman", "Whole Lotta Love" and (made after) "No More Tears." It has epic elements of all of those. But it's a little too slick for me as well.
YES. I'VE BEEN WAITING 5 YEARS FOR THIS MOMENT haha
Northwinds his solo album is pure classic showing how good a singer Coverdale was earlier in his career. Not one bad track on it. Love all the early rhythm and blues Whitesnake is brilliant, liked some of the hair metal but not a patch on the early stuff
This ^^^

John Sykes made this band, then got shit on by Coverdale.....one of the top 10 guitarists of all time....his sound is unlike any others

I watched this when it came out on Patreon. Out of all of your videos, this was the one I was most shocked about you not liking. Not only that, I thought it would become staylist for both of you. For me, it remains a top 10 most played song ever. Every little thing about this song I find amazing. Thanks for the unbiased reaction!
John Sykes on guitar! MASTER shredder.
I am not a huge hair metal fan OR Aerosmith fan in particular, but I suggest you listen to this again without pausing it WHILE watching the video and see if you still feel the same.
Jamming to this from a boom box while sleeping out in a field, under the summer stars on a farm as a child with my best friends and siblings, this song gives me a feeling that I wish both George and Ryan could experience. Condo's for dissecting it so well, though. Thanks for the short trip down memory lane.
Sounds like Zeppelins Black Dog which you thought Robert Plant was unauthentic singing black blues.
It does sound like a Led Zeppelin tribute song.
That one dude on the left said that he didn't like the Euro-step in the NBA until he saw some black players do it. Then it magically looked cool to him.
