    You should show the coil on plug install. Much nicer and cleaner - and no more issues with distributor clearance. I really like this system, affordable, and very easy to use.

    Holley should cut in and edit that this info can also be used when setting up a Dual sync whether Holley or MSD brand on the Holley Terminator X System awell.

    Would the inductive coil have to have a ballast? Msd has both a ballast version and a non ballast version

    • @HolleyPerformance
      @HolleyPerformance  6 років тому

      You should follow the manufactures recommendations when it comes to a ballast resistor and your specific ignition components. Some coils have been specifically designed to use a ballast while some do not use a ballast depending on the the coil. Thx J

    Any reason why after installing dual sync soon as I give the car throttle it instantly goes to total timing? 15° at idle touch throttle right to 32° what would cause that?

  • @bobc1701
    @bobc1701 6 років тому

    My engine builder said if I start it at 50° btdc that it'll blow holes in the top of the Pistons, I'm thinking this is just the wide open setting, and the computer will adjust it to 15° , just want to be sure before I do it!

    • @johnb2140
      @johnb2140 5 років тому +5

      your engine builder does not know anything about this system.

    • @AB-80X
      @AB-80X 3 роки тому

      Oh my, not even sure what to say. Find a different engine builder, because that guy is a fraud.
      The 50 degree is simply used to set the distributor in the correct location, nothing more. As was explained here, base timing was 15 which is fine, and WOT was 32 which will work for most N/A applications. If you or your engine builder does not understand that, I strongly urge you to find an actual engine builder, and i urge you to take a basic car mechanics course before you end up costing yourself a lot of money.
      Now you can tell your engine builder that if you put 50 degrees of timing into the engine, it will not blow a hole in the block, it will simply not run and backfire. He must be an absolute imbecile.

    So I installed everything, I have 1 gen 283, how to I measure for 50 degrees with a crank harmonic balancer that's only 5 inch in size, the instructions only have measurements for a 6 inch. I did some math and marked it 4 1/2 inches from top dead center. Not sure if that is correct

    I want to install this in a mercruiser 260. Is this distributor marine approved? Will in see a performance increase? Is the timing curve appropriate for a marine application?

    • @AB-80X
      @AB-80X 3 роки тому

      No to all of it. You will only see a performance increase if you have something to gain by adjusting timing. And on a Merc 260, there's not much to be had in the first place. There's no reason to throw money at a Merc 260. Find a take-out 350 EFI or 6,2 and start there.

  • @denniswhitaker3979
    @denniswhitaker3979 5 років тому

    I am using this system on a small block Chevy 350. Has a street strip cam. I am getting popping through the sniper carb during acceleration. Timing is set to 15 degrees at idle and 30 at WOT. Cruise setting also 30. Do you have a setting that is close enough to start off with and adjust as needed. I don’t want to hurt the motor.

    • @HolleyPerformance
      @HolleyPerformance  5 років тому +2

      Just need some more info. So you have the Sniper EFI kit installed and are also using the Dual Sync distributor?? Does the popping only happen during hard acceleration? (example, mashing the throttle from a dead stop, what about from a rolling start? What happens when you are cruising and mash it? If you are slower to accelerate do you still get the popping? ) Is this a new engine or have you run it before? If so with a carburetor? What coil are you using? Did you perform the timing verification process outlined in the manual? Was your timing dead on when it was locked out or did you have to turn the distributor to match? If so how much? Without knowing the full engine and cam specs, 30 degrees is a tad low for your setup. Thx J

    • @denniswhitaker3979
      @denniswhitaker3979 5 років тому +1

      It happens when you give it full throttle. Using MSD coil and ignition as in the video. I will get back and perform the timing procedure again and verify. I will get back with you. Thank you.

    Can you control the timing on a stock distributor using Pertronix igniter 2 module and coil?

    • @HolleyPerformance
      @HolleyPerformance  7 років тому +2

      No, the Petronix igniter II is simply a timing trigger, not a capacitive discharge ignition. if you use a capacitive discharge box like our MSD 6al unit you can control the timing with your distributor set-up.

    Does this supersede the video last year showing the distributor lockout and etc..I am thinking of replacing the HEI for this if it is as simple as this plug & play or are there any Caveats to this I have my Sniper in/on a stock 350 700R and 373 Tru Trac old 64 C10. I have not done anything to the set up since I got my Air Fuel down pat I have not uploaded anything to the Sniper itself but I did have my trans shift points changed a bit by the trans guy its a non electronic trans

    Resistor or non resistor spark plug?

    • @HolleyPerformance
      @HolleyPerformance  5 років тому

      We recommend only "resistor style" spark plugs be used on any vehicle that has any type of on-board electronic systems such as ignition, engine-management computers (EFI), radios, GPS systems, or whenever recommended by the manufacturer. They help suppress ignition noise generated during spark plug firing. Using a non-resistor plug in certain applications can actually cause the engine to suffer undesirable side effects such as an erratic idle, high-rpm misfire, engine run-on, power drop off at certain rpm levels and abnormal combustion. Thx J

    • @AB-80X
      @AB-80X 3 роки тому

      Have you ever done a normal distributor? If yes, you can do this.
      I will suggest two things.
      1. Buy a marked damper if you don't already have one, or at least a degree wheel.
      2. Opt for the coil-on-plug variant. It has a low profile cap with no provisions for plug wires. Very clean and much less interference. Totally plug and play.

      both. Specifically a roots style supercharger. (little weiand 177 on a 350 small block)

    • @HolleyPerformance
      @HolleyPerformance  6 років тому +1

      The dual sync is pretty much the same dimensions as a GM small cap HEI distributor so it should fit just fine. As far as the sniper, it will work in that scenario but remember that the base calibration does not account for the blower so you will have to fine tune the fuel map carefully to prevent damage to the engine. The best set-up would be to run individual injectors (8) directly in the intake ports for the best fuel management and control. It will work but will take some advanced tuning to maximize power and prevent engine damage so take your time. J

    • @AB-80X
      @AB-80X 3 роки тому

      For a blown application or a tunnel ram, use the coil on plug variant. It uses a flat cap and have a much lower profile. This like the GM distributor will NOT work with an 8-71 or larger blower, unless it is with an offset like Blower Shop offers. It might work with some 6-71 and other small displacement baby blowers, but not a proper 8-71, 10-71 or 14-71 blower.
