How To Install a Holley Super Sniper EFI
Вставка
- Опубліковано 25 кві 2019
- In this video I install a Holley Super Sniper EFI system on my #FairmontProject. The engine is a turbocharged 363 custom small block Ford. I was running a Demon 750 carburetor but I felt I took that as far as I could go.
I’m very happy that Holley came out with this system as it fit my needs perfectly. I’m speaking specifically about this units forced induction capabilities.
I’m looking forward to tuning it in the coming months. So far, drivability is much improved, but not perfect. There still seems to be some things that need to get sorted out. I may cover that in a future video if there’s interest.

Just installed The regular sniper, finished on Monday 22. April , after 3 days of 8 hour days, dropping the tank, removing all exitsing fuel lines and ran new ones. the darn thing started on the first key turn before the starter had finished one full rev. i was so proud i patted myself on the back til i burped
I’m in the process of doing the same. I’m excited
@@BUILTFORDTOUGH79 how did it go ?
@@MOE13576 personally, no issues. I love it. One suggestion….. get a more precise tune and make sure your timing is 100% before trying to diagnose any issues you think may be related to the Holley.
@@BUILTFORDTOUGH79 Alright, Thank you
@@danielaguirre5611 you send it to a tuner and they change fuel tables and timing. Read up on it…..
Raging river vs serene, calm lake... That's a brilliant analogy for electrical power distribution!
Thanks.
Agreed!
Nice work Eric. I’m looking forward to the test drive. Keep the content coming.
A little humor for you Eric, when I was a kid in the eighties, one of my friends and I were commuting to work one morning in his old Ford 150. The throttle cable end snapped off at the pedal, similar to what happened to you. We pulled on to the shoulder of the highway and tied a shoelace to the end of the throttle cable to make it hand operated. Since it was a standard trans truck, I had to shift gears, since he didn’t happen to have three hands. 😂
Good morning! "Remove the engine and transmission" First LOL of the day! Thanks Eric!
First step removing the trans: Twist your nob til it falls off.
coming alive with psi at 55. I fell in love with injection.. new starts, cold cold starts.. 20 years sitting, dead of winter.. it is just alive. Nice setup
The intro, the content, your attitude perfect. I like how you wired it to suit your needs. This is one of the most real world install videos.
Thank you!
@@ericthecarguy hey! Where you at rocky mountain race week 2020?
Saw your car on this 1320 vid ua-cam.com/video/LQIIZ3dlNcc/v-deo.html at 7:11
I had a 72 Camaro with a 383 carburetorated and I loved that car! I regret every day selling it however I do remember having to constantly fuss with the carburetor and because it wasnt daily driven and sat for weeks sometime without being driven there were constantly issues ! I should have converted it to fuel injection! I believe your going to be allot happier with this efi system in the long run! You'll also be able to tune your engine better and hopefully get more horsepower as a result! As always a great video! Please keep em coming!!
Yeah for a car that isn't driven much, EFI is the way to go, carbs hate sitting around. Had a 83 z28 with a built 350 in it, drove it to high school every day and never had any problems with the carb, until I bought a "responsible" car to drive daily. Some asshole rear ended it like a week after I did the conversion, yeah miss that car a lot.
Hehe, I'm only 9 minutes in and the vibe I'm getting is "take installation directions and place them directly in the trash"! Love it! Eric, you do you, man!
WOW great video it took me 2 weeks to install my Holley HP EFI on my 93 351w mustang but had a bad ECU. Sent it back to Summit Racing and got a new one but it took sometime in getting the car to run perfect due to getting the IAC position at 0%. But I love the Holley system wished I discovered this system years ago.
YES, TUBES. I've been waiting for you to cover this, FINALLY.
I am not very much into car building but when I watch your videos make me thinking about it. Really enjoy your videos, tks
Hello! That's really cool installation. Get this baby on the road Eric ;-) Can't wait to see the beast roaring! Thanks!
Yes this was the video I’ve been excitingly waiting for.
Hey Eric, it’s awesome how honest you are with your info. Here in Australia we call that a good bloke.
How could you run these two big projects: dad's truck and Fairmont at the very same time ? That's unbelievable!
You are HERO
I'm also very tired. Thanks for noticing my efforts.
I love the neat wiring too as you do, so i took a screen shot of it 👍🏻
Thanks Eric! I'm maybe 6 months out from doing the same thing on my FE project. Helpful info here, have a great weekend.
Good luck with your build!
Great video Eric. Thanks for the detailed information. Great job
Absolutely brilliant video Eric.
Awesome video! Can’t wait for the performance review!
Nice work! Love this build
Moment of truth Mr Eric Cook
Good work Eric nice to see that engine working
Your engine bay looks really nice. Well done with your build Eric!
Thanks!
I remember watching the build in 2016. One badass setup
Amazing man, getting it running on a carb and then later on EFI. Let's hope EFI does the trick.
He’s a fine Amish lad !
Nice Eric ! I would love to use the super sniper! Has some really cool features!! Looking forward to seeing it on the road 👍🏻
Thanks for all you do. We really love your channel.
Thank you for the awesome video. Good timing too, because i have been considering getting this system for my charger. I want something to keep the carburated appearance, and of course, so I can keep my original filter setup. This seems well worth the effort. Would love to see how it perform for you too as time goes on. Now all I have to do is measure how tall it is and see if it will be too tall for the ramcharger on the car. Keep up the great work. The work on your car has really paid off and came a long way!
Seen the entire thing just to hear it turn over. Worth it
Glad it worked. I had one installed on my C10. Never ran right, send it back to holley two times costing me valuable time, after calling holley for the third time in which they wanted me to send it in again, I took the Damm thing off and installed a regular carb. Won't even look at another one----
My head hurts now. Back in the day, I’d get it but now, more fun watching you.
Awesome video can't wait to install mine now. No I can't wait till you do the hyperspark as I have one as well. keep up the good work sir.
Can't wait for the tunning video and hyperspark video!
Sweet step by step video Eric Brother
Awesome I know you'll love the drivability
I know a lot of people didn't like this project, but just wanted you to know I have enjoyed the project a lot, and have dreamed about making a sleeper myself. I would like to build a seventh generation Honda Accord with a V6. I currently own one but it has a K series 4 cylinder which is also an excellent engine for my ride sharing business. Anyway, keep up the good work!
Nice install and set up. Thank you.
Props to Holley for an excellent EFI kit. I always avoid pregnant spots at all cost. ;) Nice work!!
I'll be putting one of these on my friend's 1970 Buick GS with a nasty 455 build. We're excited to see the HyperSpark video since he'll be using that too.
That is super slick!! I was going to go blow through but I’m thinking this is the way to go! Thank you for this super helpful informative video I’ll be doing this set up on my s10 with twins
They work with super chargers
Sounds so good with the sniper efi
So far, so good.
Hopefully this will bring you what you wanted, now for the 'advanced' timing....(spark distribution)
Thank Eric might be a good add. to my400hp 79 cutlass with 455. Keep up the good work.
I think you'd be very happy.
Keep coming to watch this as I’m installing mine with a twin turbo setup… thanks Erick
How did it go ?
I have seen others use the Super Sniper with great results.
Hey eric! Greetings from south-africa mate! Love this fairmont! POWAAA!!!
The chances of me undertaking something like this are slim. I'm a JDM guy , that being said this was incredibly enjoyable to watch. Looking forward to the drive / dyno video. Keep up the great work Eric from a very long time fan all the from Australia.
Thank you! BTW, one day I'll get to that GSR in the background. Perhaps that will help peak your interest.
@@ericthecarguy mate you could work on a lawnmower and I'd watch. But yes throw in a bit of imports every now and again. Also , really appreciate you taking the time to reply.
Looking forward to the next one!
Thanks a ton for this video, I wasn't familiar with Eric the car guy until now and this video was enough to like subscribe and hit the bell...lol...I just purchased the regular version and two days later broke my back... literally, just had surgery, pins and screws and a cage.. anyways, I'm dying to finish the install...it looked pretty straight forward, I did choose to get the really nice shrinktube connectors as well, but man your never to old to learn and you gave me several aha moments so this video has me even more excited about finishing the installation...so far the only thing I have been a little disappointed about was simply the cost of the sniper air cleaner...and the cost of the bigger better control screen for the unit... replacement cost for what comes with it, whopping 3.5 in, is like 260 and for the small tablet size was 600 or so...geeze...Xmas wish list now... anyways, thanks a ton Eric! I should have this baby going by the weekend if everything goes well...I'm beyond excited about the fan control bcuz I was having some issues, I think the ground supplying sensor is bad, cuts on at 180, cuts off at 103 lol...dead battery at work a cpl times helped me to figure it out... excellent video, great information and tips...keep it up man, I'm an instant fan...and if it helps to get the living room looking more like a living room instead of parts Central I'm sure my wife will be a fan too! 🤣 I had the msd distributor already but did opt for the hyperspark distributor to make it easier...I've been thinking about a way to get live data of what the computer sees for tuning and tweeking on this obd1 setup...so to be able to see what's going on and tweek some as well on the fly is beyond exciting to me....
That looked fairly painless. Can't wait to see the car running down the street or on the dyno. You might get some better mileage as a side benefit as well. Cheers!!
great video keep up the awesome content ERIC....
nicely done. no mention of knock sensor. We just had a nasty truck/car accident near where I live. I70 hill coming down into denver from the mountains. All to often truckers overheat the brakes and have the truck run away.
Awesome video. Very interesting.
That's awesome you do really nice work sir
Thank you for showing and describing how to have multiple sensors for gauges and for the efi, i was wondering about that.
Erics got a new shirt? Looks good! Happy weekends everybody!
Available in 'Large'....'Larger'....and 'Larger still'...I need a 'Small'....are these 'Merch'??
Looks like it's going to be fun!
Sounds good man!!
Great information and content. Thanks
Youre the man, love your videos!
Thank you!
It's gonna be pretty sweet!!!
Hi Eric, just watched the latest engine masters and they tested the carb hats and direction of them in relation to air distribution / leaning out cylinders for boosted cars. I think you could benefit from placing at spacer on your hat and turning it fully forward. Seems to keep the distribution more even and less chance of a lean cylinder condition. Just my thoughts. Love the videos man! Always good stuff here.
Beeeeen waiting for this all week!
Awesome video
love Snipper... So easy to install.. just make sure ignition is constant hot only issue ran great simple setup..
I bought the Holly sniper and installed it on my blow through pro charged 363 and had nothing but problems!!! I was hoping it would work and was disappointed!! Went back to blow through carburetor!! I hope you have better luck than I did.
What type of problems did you have? Was Holly any help with the issues? I ask as im thinking about one of these for my 305 SBC truck, not happy with the TBI
Neat crescent wrench
So glad you made these videos... I keep turning back to them for reference, your videos are great tools... where did you get that downtube wrap around blanket? I cant find anything like it anywhere, and my wrap on my downtube gets destroyed so quickly... thanks!!! Always great content!!!
what a great video!
Just ordered a Terminator x for my fox thanks for the good tips and good to know that I can leave the foxbody fuel pump and relay alone so it just just like stock
Great vid Eric :-)
Thank you.
Great video
This was great watching even though it is stuff out of my league - would have been more interested in my younger day when I still enjoyed playing around with vehicles. Your presentation was tops too - trust you enjoy your wheels after this.
Smashing neat-n-tidy installation :-D
Getting the mapping correct will take time, but that interface looks very helpful.
It does need a bit of tweaking, but so far, so good. Nice to see you as always.
Oh my.
That was great.
I started howling!
"NOT TO SCALE" You know it's kind of amazing that they have to say this. Makes me feel a bit better about myself.
“my big one is going to the vacuum supply”
made me chuckle haha.
It was very interesting, I decided I'm not going to get one for my SBC 283 :-)
You should install the return spring, backup is insurance. Learned this hot-rodding back in the 60s.
It's a good idea , I second this thru my own bad experience when I had to hook my foot behind the throttle pedal and pull it back after the linkage jammed open. Not afraid to say I shit my pants that day.
It would also make the accelerator pedal very hard to depress and over stress the already fragiled throttle cable that you saw in the video. Thanks for the comment.
@@ericthecarguy You need to find a better throttle cable. That old one looks bad. Not sure who makes the best ones nowadays.
The dash needs to be removed to replace it. I won't be doing that anytime soon.
Most tracks won't let you run without one. That's minimum tech, strapped down battery, throttle return spring. The day the springs get weak or the blade shafts are in a bind, you're going to have a bad day.
750 rpm is the same idle speed as my 1.2 75hp Renault Twingo - it feels a lot faster now that I know it has so much in common with your car! ;)
Rear engined??
@@malcolmyoung7866 The intake and exhaust manifold meet up under the hood so I'm working under the assumption that the metal shoebox connecting the two is my engine. You're right about the newer model Twingo being rear engined though, just not my weird contraption ('03 so still the old / original model Twingo I, but with the 16v 75hp engine that is otherwise almost exclusively found on the Twingo II).
The ever pleasing sound of the dizzy engaging cam gear...
Looks a better set up than a Megasquirt. I've been trying for months to my car to run right on that crap and the Fairmont started so easy with the Holley
Mega squirt is tricky business. They are literally a blank PCB that can be built and programmed to do ANYTHING, literally. The possibilities are endless on a megasquirt. My friend runs his turbo Elantra on a MS3 pro and it was SOOO much initial setup, it was insane. Because he built the board, and started the tune from scratch, there was ZERO default inputs. It took forever to get the car dialed in, but goddamn, once everything was set and calibrated, the live tuning and datalogging was amazing. It's a powerful engine management system but not for the faint of heart.
Yes it can run with megasquirt, But i ditched that setup and bought a haltech elite ecu, and it runs smooth now.
Because you dont know what you doing, been using in for over 12 years MS2 and later MS3X and installed two others , it works but you need to know what your doing lots of reading is my advice.
@@chicanesimon I was blown away when my friend first showed me his megasquirt ECU and the software he was tuning with. It's some serious business. I think the only reason it's not as popular as some of the others is the fact it's so advanced, and not exactly marketed as an "easy" or "plug and play" setup.
Super good information as allways :D i hope you can do a coldstart and warm start and launch and driving :D
now I need to go find the video of the fuel pump install, the sniper master kit I have as a fuel pump with it and I'm trying to get ideas for placement. Awesome video btw
My entire fuel system is custom. Sadly, I don't have video of the latest version yet. I'm still working through those edits. The cliff notes are, Moroso screen filter before the pump, then a fine, screw on oil filter style filter after the pump. Hard line from the secondary filter to the FI unit on both the delivery and return run along the left frame connector. -8 throughout. You should use -10 from the tank to the pump if you're doing big power to avoid cavitation. Fuel psi regulator goes on the return side. Good luck. Oh yea, I also put rubber washers under the mounting points for the fuel pump. Helps keep it a little quieter. Fuel pump is mounted just behind the rear bumper on the drivers side. It's activated by switching the ground side of a relay I mounted in a custom mount behind the passenger kick panel. The switch controls the ground of the relay.
I was gonna go with FiTech and use their Fuel command station which lets you use the mechanical pump
Was good information.
Awesome, great video Eric. I'm super excited for you. Installation looks pretty easy, I'll probably try it one day if I don't shove an LS into whatever from projecting on.....LMAO butt hurt...
Nice vid
Nice setup.... convinced me to get rid of the carb thxx
Yeah, but this system cant be cheap. I'm guessing $1,500-$2,000 at least.
$1200 actually. Link in the description.
I figured as such. I'll keep my Holley.
Good stuff, I'd simplify the tubes and wires under the hood, b/c on power tower you need it simple.
Also get a catch can other wise your rear main seal will pop after few pulls.
Honestly I haven't had any issues with the rear main, and I've had the engine out a couple of times since I put it in. The breathers on the valve cover work pretty good. I'm not running killer boost either. About 7psi.
I also installed the dual sync distributor, for those of you who are running a hei or other there is a kit you can install so the system controls timing. You can run it without but I suggest using the dual sync or install the kit. You want it to control timing to get the most out of it.
Dads truck videos flowing like mud.
This isn't TV, it's real life.
@@ericthecarguy That truck is as real as they come. Gonna be a monster when you get to it. I not knocking the Fairmont, Me and my kids have spent countless hours watching your vids. Very entertaining and educational. Keep up the good work. #DadsTruckVidsPls

You'll get your wish next week. Thank you for your comments.
I've been looking for a video like this. I'm looking to put a Sniper on my '76 F-250.
Do it. I think you'd be very happy with it. It's a lot more steerable and efficient.
@@ericthecarguy efficient is relative in a 6k lb pickup with a 460, but I'd like to turbo charge it eventually, and have a beat up old truck to run at the track for fun.
I would keep your traditional carb. I installed a Holley Sniper on my 1963 Ford Thunderbird with a 390 FE. Runs great when it runs but there is ALWAYS an issue with the Sniper. I removed the Sniper and went back to an old fashioned carb!
Eric, the next time the engine comes out (we know it will eventually) might I suggest you go whole-hog on the engine bay - clean it, plug any necessary holes, and paint it - either matte black so the engine can be the center piece, or a color that compliments the engine. Keep the exterior looking like it does for sleeper status, but you can really go nuts on the engine bay. Note: I don't mean make it look like the pep boys threw up in there, or make it look show-car pearlescent/metal flaked to death, just clean and fresh, like that glorious engine.
Never gonna happen. If you've seen my previous videos on this car you know that I actually love the fact that I have this jewel of an engine sitting in a dirty engine bay. Also, I did paint some of it when I did the HVAC as you'll see in future videos.
think thats the first time I seen Eric wear a t-shirt in years, instead of his circa '04 cutoff hoodie :)
Hope someday buying the 2 barrel Sniper for my Dodge Omni as well my V6 D21
6:40......"another bung I can screw" lmao good one Eric! Lol
