    Amazing how far things have come!!! I did a Holley Commander 950 install 20 years ago on my '71 Buick Riviera 455. It needed a windows 98 computer to tune it, and the program never worked right. None of the preset tunes(on a 3.5" diskette) were close to what I needed for a big car with a big block. I got it good enough and used it for years, but to retune it I needed the windows XP update for a newer laptop. So I sent off the ECU (Which was was a good size box I had to mount under the dash) to get updated. That froze up not long after I got it back so I switched back to carb. But I still have the gas tank mods and O2 bung. Maybe I'll do this eventually.

    Good job! Maybe excell high temp wires may be a better long term to protect from the headers too as they have porcelain boots.Secondly being an HVACR tech since 94 I would suggest getting the lines connected and put some nitrogen in the system. Now getting into fall I worry for you about moisture building up in the system. The reason why is the heat from the motor making the compressor and accumulator hot then cooling off will create moisture. Moisture and oil dont mix. Thanks a ton for sharing as always be safe!

      I believe you can rent a vacuum pump from oreilly.. also get a micron guage. Make sure the vacuum pump has new oil in it as that is what collects the moisture and dirt from the lines. You will want to pull down to a minimum of 5oo microns with the vacuum pump off and valved off.. then you can add the correct charge into the vehicle.. Make sure you use the refigerant oil to lube all o rings and gaskets when putting the lines together too. If you need further help I can send you a step by step to help you achieve a good method. Thanks again stay safe

    25:50 the a.c. sense line is very handy. It will kick your idle up when the a.c. is on at idle. Since you already have it in the cab, it would be very easy to run it up to your heater control and splice it into your compressor enable wire

    Kyle, I'm in the process of doing a lot of the things on my truck that you have bene doing on your S10. So, thank you! You have been a great resource. Did you have to address knock sensors on your V8 swap? If so, to what extent? I have a Gen1 block that spent life as a carb'd engine. I'm just not finding the info online that I need. I plan to go with a Sniper unit as well.

  • @patrickb1408
    @patrickb1408 3 роки тому

    Kyle! Let the sniper control the fans! 100% adjustable though the handheld unit! Also. MAYBE to much on the return to have 180* return line fitting there. 180 adds some restrictions to the line. You can use that front passenger port on the sniper for the return line to keep everything look pretty. I LOVE your content. Keep it up!

    • @saabkyle04
      @saabkyle04  3 роки тому

      I noticed that it had that ability, but I also already had everything wired up with relays and everything from the carbureted setup. Idk if I'll redo it or not lol, it was a lot of work. The return port has to come from the back of the regulator, according to what I read in the instructions. I guess we'll see how things go. Seems like everything I do is a learning experience.

  • @ricochetey
    @ricochetey 3 роки тому +4

    The best thing about a carbureted car is the fuel pump is typically a 20 minute job vs dropping the tank or removing the bed which is what I just did on my f150 and all the bed bolts were rust welded together. What a headache all for a bad sending unit float that had a pinhole. I have since replaced the soldered brass float with a plastic setup.

    Are you having any issues with the Sniper throttle body bolted directly to the dual plane intake manifold? Two issues that I have heard of are a loud whistling sound and the sensors not getting correct readings. Most common suggestion is to use a spacer or mill down the center divider similar to an Air Gap intake -- however I have also heard some people have no issues whatsoever.

    I can't help think of one thing. If my carbed mill gets really hot, and the carb gets really hot, which sometimes happen - well, in the worst case, I vapor-lock. M'kay, I install a bigger fan on my radiator, and maybe a fuel cooler. Now what about a Sniper? What happens to that built-in ECU when that throttle body get scorching hot? Hmmm. My Dominator ECU definitely don't like heat, so not sure why this would be any different.
    I like the idea of Sniper EFI, I think it's great that people can get an entry level EFI they can easily install, but I don't think it's a great idea to install the ECU on a component that is at such a high risk of getting blazing hot.
    To anyone wanting an easy system with self-learning ability. Get the Holley HP. Almost as easy to install, except for the fact that the ECU is in a self-contained box, and thus it needs a cable going from the throttle body to the ECU. But the rest is equally easy. Don't let a Holley HP scare you, it also have a self-learning quick start Wizard like this.

    I tried to use SK04 to order a power steering rack and tie rod ends for my 1995 Geo Prizm, and it says the code is expired.

    I thought you had a welder? Or are you just showing that it can be done without one? Nice job and product.

      Yes I have a welder, but what’s the point if they provide an easy solution? No point in making it harder on yourself when the engineering has already been done.

    You should do a Dodge Viper GTS blue pearl paintjob it’s basically a royal Blue Pearl with white vinyl stripes like a basic decal package if you look at a real 1996 viper GTS like Jay Leno’s would that be happening when you get the hood on?

    Where's the crew cab S10?

  • @captainredneck0683

    Technically you didn't need to install an electric fuel pump in the tank. Holly offers a sump tank that bolts up front. It makes it so you can still use your mechanical fuel pump. Your mechanical fuel pump gets routed to the sump, that then uses a built in electric fuel pump for the fuel injection.

      So to I stall the electric pump you don't have to disconnect the tank pump but instead use it to feed the electrical pump?

    Don't use those heat shrink connectors in fuel! The glue dissolves in gasoline. Solder and use gas proof heat shrink.

    • @saabkyle04
      @saabkyle04  3 роки тому

      I’ve never heard of that. I guess it’s something I can look into later. I’m doing my best with the knowledge I have.

      @@saabkyle04 Had to learn that the hard way too unfortunately. I used the same connectors, car would run bad with a full tank of gas. Although the sniper efi could probably hide the problem, my standalone didn't. You can test the connectors in a glas jar with fuel, put them in under for a couple of days. Love the build

    Your first time pulling that pump would have been your worst. There's no room hardly to access the lines. The early models with tbi still used the rubber slip on hose with clamps, but later ones used the threaded fittings, and were TIGHT. Add in age and corrosion, limited access, and it was a whole barrel of monkeys. Icing on the cake was to have the line either twist or plain snap off. Luckily you could splice with high pressure rubber hose and double clamp. If you had a 55psi vortec, sorry buddy.
