Maybe. However now that you know where to cut it’s about 30 seconds of effort to cut an access hole. I think it would take longer to Jack up the car, put it on Jack stands, maybe have a second person help you lower the tank, then drag the tank out from under the car to work on it. Hopefully it’s not full!
Definitely should not run your brand new fuel pump dry! Not even for a second as it will cause unnecessary wear on the pump. The pump js lubricated with the fuel and hs very very bad to run it dry for any amount of time. I watched this to see how the tank is dropped lol. I would cut a hole like I always do but it’s highly recommended not to do on a mark iii.
You created sparks with cutting wheel that at the very least could ignite the interior. You now made a whole for exhaust fumes, rodents and just a hack. Even if you did it your way you could have at least cut a panel out and put a hinge on it so the floor board wasn't ripped up in 2 spots. Just be safe bro. Someone might do this and start a fire or worse.
Yeah let me just buy a 4 point lift and pour a slab of concrete for it then buy a hydraulic fuel tank stand and then replace the fuel pump myself. This is def a sketchy ass way to do it but without a damn near professional shop this is definitely the best way to do this. This was quite helpful, thank you abzuzar.
This video is very good, show you what you don't have to do
Wow. Is this a what not to do video?
Would have been less effort to just drop the tank

You can cut one side and push the rest to the side. 👍
The wires on the new fuel pump are different color then the factory wires. How do you know which one to splice to what?
Thank you , I think I might have the same issue
Glad to help!
So I just did the way you did it but I was smoking cigarette while changing the pump and the car caught on fire it’s on fire now what do I do ? 😅
lol put it in a museum as a work of art

Good advice

Great point!
What a hack job.....
Gotta do what you gotta do when you don’t wanna drop the tank. No regrets, 10/10 would do it again.
@@abuzar1 I've done two or three hundred fuel pumps mostly on GM products but I've never hacked up any of them just saying.
