    I like how he says he wants to be a finesse drummer and not a thumper. A lot of people missed out on the finesse of his dad and his feel. I think Jason has done his dad proud and become a very accomplished drummer in all styles!!!!

      It’s hard to grow up in the shadow of greatness.
      At an early stage he liked Stewart Copeland and the Police,which was much different than his father’s style even though more often than not John Bohnam
      was classified as a “power”
      drummer rather than realizing he was just playing
      a large drum kit, No rock drummer back in that time played a 26” kick or really paid attention to tuning.
      Jason’s a good drummer but he’s not his father.

    Smaller drums, at least to me, seem unfairly maligned. My old kit was a Pearl Forum kit and the rack toms were huge, deep, 12-13” toms. My new DW kit has 10-12” toms which are shallower. In my opinion, the smaller toms seem to be way easier to tune than the bigger ones. And I have a problem finding the perfect tuning for my 13” tom. So yeah, I’m gonna stick with the smaller toms. The floor toms are the same width at 16”, but my DW one is 14” deep. And yet, I think I can get a better sound out of it.

    it's hard to grow accustomed to the skill & accuracy of hard-working, talented, drummers (past and present) like Vinnie Colaiuta, Buddy Rich, Joe Morello, Jeff Porcaro, Simon Phillips, Weckl--and 100 other Weckl-wanabees who also play amazing, spectacular, accurate, and musical--and then listen to entertainers like this carry on about musicianship... i'm sorry, but come on dude. his timing (not the rhythms and offbeats, which are fine) is all over the place. his spacing is inconsistent, his hits are often rushed, then lagged coming back to the groove...

    I had to do a double take @ 8:14 when he made that comment about Phil Collins. What complete ignorance.

    • @tombstoneharrystudios584
      @tombstoneharrystudios584 5 днів тому

      I think you’re misinterpreting what he’s saying, and Jason wasn’t very clear anyway
      What I believe he was saying was how Phil, who is an amazing drummer, has utilised effects as a way of enhancing his fills. And here’s an example of a simple fill and how clever use of effects turns it into something memorable and ear-catching!
      Of a 2014 meeting Jason said
      “We got together for three weeks and I had an amazing time,” the song of Led Zep’s late John Bonham tells Billboard. “It was an honor to be chosen by one of my real heroes. Other than my dad I would say Phil is probably my No. 2 guy to go to. I”ve been a huge fan since Abacab, and then of course his solo stuff. It was like playing in front of my dad - another moment that felt like you’re playing in front of your dad in the weirdest kind of way. You’re playing in front of your heroes. My wife just kept telling me, ‘Don’t keep looking for approval. He’s hired you. He knows what you can do. Just give him your best.’ I had such a good time with it.”

    • @Hellrun

      @@tombstoneharrystudios584I beg your pardon, I actually was in the middle of writing a riposte when I decided to listen back another few times. Slowed it down... fubbed it. Where's the star licks?

  • @timpricedrums
    @timpricedrums 3 роки тому +1

    I’ve always thought Jason was a half decent rock drummer, but he’s really not world class in my humble opinion. He’s very wealthy and has had a very fortunate career, so I’m sure he couldn’t care less, but I’ve heard he’s often late to turn up to rehearsals and gigs and has a bit of a rock star attitude.
    His fills are a bit cliched and his feel never sits right for my ear.
    Good luck to him, but he’s successful off the back of his surname, not his talent.
    *edit if you don’t believe me, have a listen to the fill at 10:36 and count along. He fluffs it right up. To be doing a big budget clinic video like this, you need to be nailing things. Like Simon Phillips or similar would do.

    • @DG-sf9ei
      @DG-sf9ei 2 роки тому +2

      Very well stated. It's safe to say there are many drummers(amateur to professional) with Jason's skill set or more, yet will never have the oppurtunity at 1/10 of the $success and recognition of Jason. Without question the last name is what propelled him there. His old man on the other hand was a one off and earned everything he accomplished from being one of the greatest.
