Totally disagree all these video sucked in comparison to what is out there now… although I haven’t watched this yet,,but all those pretentious bozzio, gadd, etc videos were a waste of time and money..I have them all for the most part
@@johnsoos6907 they don’t suck they just didn’t know how to teach and their videos were boring,,,bozzio especially it’s painful to watch..and I’m playing 43 yrs I know what I’m doing
@@mghc7 You should revisit them, today. You might have a different perspective. Bozzio breaks down a lot of the stuff very well. For instance, when he talks about going through the accent sections of the Syncopation book & doubling-up the right hand with the right foot & left hand with the left foot. Or, the ostinato section where he shows how to go through the various permutations. Please give it another chance.
Thank You so much for uploading this. Haven't watched this tape in probably 20 years. I've still got it and will never part with it, but this is just an easier way to watch it. This was a huge part of my development as drummer and helped me transition into slightly more complex drumming, and not just 4/4. His kit is so badass. Pretty sure this is the same kit he used on the Who Made Who tour and Blow Up Your Video. And of course, love watching your bass playing! Must've been a blast to be there for those sessions.
I had same VHS tape! Plus a bunch of others. Probably up in attic. You just inspired me to go back. Thank you. I still nail the cans at 57. Love this stuff
I'm not 100% sure but, that sure looks like a Hartke bass cabinet back there! Man, if that doesn't date this video. You just don't see them anymore. I know this is a drum video but I play everything and being a drummer first and foremost, bass is my #2 so. I just noticed that cuz all you really ever see today is Ampeg. I loved Kustom heads, Sunn, GK and my bass rig has a Marshall head. Yes, Marshall once made bass equipment and it was amazing. I do have an Ampeg rack mount pre amp...can't avoid Ampeg these days lol
Most of the AC/DC shows I saw were with Simon (80's)! A brilliant powerful underrated drummer and perfect for DC replacing Phil Rudd! I remember reading in "Modern Drummer" he had a problem with hand blisters and needed some potassium based compound recommended from some top London doctor!
Simon is a solid good drummer!!! The reason he left AC/DC is because he wanted to do a lot more fills and be more active on the songs. Although Angus and Malcolm could appreciate that, it wasn't what they ultimately wanted? They explained to him that AC/DC is a Guitar driven band. So what they really want out of an AC/DC drummer is the nice solid backseat, with just small fills here and there and cymbals used basically to help accent chorus and or on chords just to improve power. So, they all decided he would move on from the band. And who better to get back would be Phil Rudd, who is content with playing the way they want and need!
@@toddmorrissey8372 yes Chris Slade took over right after Simon Wright, but Phil Rudd has come back a few times. Phil Rudd is the best drummer AC/ DC ever had. Chris Slade can play the simple AC/DC beats, but I watched him trying to do a drum solo, and was not that good. But he can fit in for AC/DC.
His time in acdc was a weird time for the band, some bad albums and totally raucous live shows, they often played very fast versions of their songs in the 80s like double time ., Phil just has soo much more of swung pocket feel than Simon and Chris they never sounded right with either of them. This is just caveman metal drumming all singles all staccato very rigid and right down the center zero dynamics
Vinnie would say, “shut your trap and learn from everyone”. His groove is great, technical no. Have you had the AC/DC gig before? Oh, no? This dude apparently did, so that’s saying learning your four on the floor grooves, and yeah seems easy just like shuffles are, but there not. Bro I get what your saying but there’s plenty more drummers especially beginners that are trying to lock this down rather than are at vinnies level to be able to sit down and cop vinnies thing. This is a different time like your eluding to but there’s plenty here to appreciate, especially young kids just as you were at one point trying to play back in black and that can be enough to hook ya to the drums and that’s what it’s about, getting people to play the drums and feel that thing you only know if your a drummer that’s put in enough time to be able to enjoy this to get to that next level. Cheers
He's a self-taught single-stroke guy, not technical in terms of rudiments, BUT look for DIO era videos - he's nailing all Vinny Appice's parts with power and speed. Solid player, no arguments.
These videos were the bread and butter of learning the drums back in the 80s ... You can learn a lot from these, and sounding live

looks to b a solid player with a nice feel.. in a classic time period for drummers.. the early 90's!

Awesome sauce!
Intriguing 🤘

They're still quite popular. Dave Ellefson uses them, countless others. Very popular within the hard rock/metal genre.

Haha. Vinnie Colaiuta exists. There is no need to watch a Simon Wright instruction video.

He definitely not technical.
does he have to be?
He's not but he has a great feel. It's no wonder he replaced Phil Rudd.
But he's solid and has groove that fits the bands he plays in. The many robot drummers out there with no feel are shyte.
whatever mate.......go post somewhere else
