Yes, this is a half double crochet in US, a half treble in US is made by yarning over twice and then pulling through 2 and then pulling through 3. Hope that makes sense for people that are looking for the IS half treble crochet!
so this logic works with all up from that yes? you pull through each set of 2 until the last 3? so basically (US terms) a half double crochet is just a crochet and a half, a half triple is a double and a half and so on? Thank you for this comment, it was top comment too so I didn't have to search for the info, you made this so much easier than it usually is :)
THank you for this, it was quicker to read this than watch the demonstration. I am using a pattern where it's unclear if they use US and UK and needed a refresher but this vid is so absolute beginner friendly that the slow speed was making it more confusing lol Not a critique of the vid as some people will need it but, far easier to read this haha Many thanks.
OMG YOU ARE A TREASURE!!! HOW IN THE WORLD ARE YOU NOT FAMOUS YET??? THIS IS THE ONLY INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEO ABOUT CROCHET THAT IT ACTUALLY GOOD QUALITY AND CLOSE TO THE CROCHET. THANK YOU SO MUCH YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH TIME I HAVE SPENT SEARCHING FOR A VIDEO LIKE THIS 🥹😭
Thank you. All my life I had been comfortable with just making items with the double crochet and holding the crochet and wool a lot different to what I see now
Melleh17 As I watched I got confused too, I was saying the same thing! LOL I guess she could have said at the same time that in the US it's called the half double, would've saved us confusion, eh? LOL
OK, I'm in the middle of a pattern which clearly says it uses US terms and it calls for a HTR. Well if all a HTR is, is a US HDC that's just a little confusing.
I don't get it. Putting the hook into the second stitch in the row, that is forth including the 2 chain stitches makes the number of stitches decrease by 1. Shouldn't you put the hook into the first stitch in the row that is third including the chain stitches?
I was gonna say...this looks more like a half double rather than half treble, unless the skipping a stitch part is what make the difference...but I don't think it would cause that would throw your stitch count off...wouldn't it?
She said UK, in case you didn't hear. The UK versions use the same terms for different stitches. For instance, what we call a single crochet here in the US is what they call a double crochet in the UK. It's important to educate yourself on these things if you should ever decide to try patterns from other countries.
She says later in the video that it's half treble in the U.K., and half double in the US. They're the same stitch, just under different names for different countries.
Nancy Jackson No, it is in fact correct. She says in the video that this is the half treble in UK terminology. Perhaps you should look into the differing terminology globally before being so rude to someone who is just trying to give advice.
Please correct title, this is a half double crochet stitch, not a half treble, it will really confuse people and mess up their patterns if they go by this video....
What you are demonstrating is the half double crochet stitch, not the half treble crochet stitch! I understand the UK and US differences, but your demonstration and title are extremely misleading for those who don’t. As an instructor, you shouldn’t assume that everyone who watches this video knows that a UK htc is equivalent to a US hdc, when they are looking for a US htc.
Yes, this is a half double crochet in US, a half treble in US is made by yarning over twice and then pulling through 2 and then pulling through 3. Hope that makes sense for people that are looking for the IS half treble crochet!
Yes! Thank you. I thought I was missing something. I was actually looking for US half treble crochet.
thanks!! I thought so.

Thank you. All my life I had been comfortable with just making items with the double crochet and holding the crochet and wool a lot different to what I see now
Really clear video tutorial with great close ups and really concise verbal instructions. Thank you. :)
Great video, and thanks for explaining the US half double/UK half treble, I had been so confused about that! All is now clear :-)
You are very good at explaining and showing clearly how to do stitches ect.thank you
Beautiful lesson and teacher.
Is there a channel with all of Catherine's techniques? Very easy to follow and I need more!
Wow. I learnt a new way of crocheting. Thank you
ok so its a half double crochet in us....got it...Thank you, very clear video
The half double is the half treble in the UK?
Thank you! Great tutorial for the half treble ❤️
Great tutorial! Thanks!
really concise and clearly explained!
I Think you explaine very clearly and well! Thank you! :)
Great explanation--thank you!
Very clear instructions thank you!
She did say that her stitch is equivalent to the US half double
Pretty sure this is a half double crochet stitch, rather than a half triple/treble. Great video otherwise though.
She said that it was the UK half treble stitch; which in the US is half double.
Great job explaining.
Melleh17 As I watched I got confused too, I was saying the same thing! LOL I guess she could have said at the same time that in the US it's called the half double, would've saved us confusion, eh? LOL
Melleh17 Right!
OK, I'm in the middle of a pattern which clearly says it uses US terms and it calls for a HTR. Well if all a HTR is, is a US HDC that's just a little confusing.
is one like the double one or not or like a double or not
is this the smallest treble crochet stitch or not
I don't get it. Putting the hook into the second stitch in the row, that is forth including the 2 chain stitches makes the number of stitches decrease by 1. Shouldn't you put the hook into the first stitch in the row that is third including the chain stitches?
Kate Maj The two chains count as a stitch, on the next row you can put a stitch into the top of the two chains for the same number of stitches.
I was gonna say...this looks more like a half double rather than half treble, unless the skipping a stitch part is what make the difference...but I don't think it would cause that would throw your stitch count off...wouldn't it?
Sorry but what's the difference between a Half double crochet and a Half treble crochet?
Is it the same?
How do you do a triple, what you show is a half double, not triple
She stated it's a UK htr which is different than US stiches.... this doesn't help me !! :(
That is an hdc not an htc
She said UK, in case you didn't hear. The UK versions use the same terms for different stitches. For instance, what we call a single crochet here in the US is what they call a double crochet in the UK. Ok, the pattern I'm trying to use IS from someone in the UK (duh, lol)...problem solved :)
That music is killing me. 😫
It is a half double...the UK call the half double a half treble...having a hard time finding the american half treble.
Now you have a video of it.. Just remember it is UK triple..
This is an American half double stitch...hmmm.
Treble crochet
T
This is half double ..
She says later in the video that it's half treble in the U.K., and half double in the US. They're the same stitch, just under different names for different countries.
half double not treble
I.
Its half double crochet
your doing a half double, not a half treble crochet
That’s a half dble
This tutorial should be taken down or renamed. This is NOT a half triple crochet. It IS a half double crochet.
A double is US term, A treble is the UK term. She is from the UK. Its the same stitch. Just US vs UK terminology
THAT'S A HALF DOUBLE NOT TREBLE and your other video of TREBLE IS JUST DOUBLE CROCHET
It's UK TERMS. US half double crochet is a HALF TREBLE in the UK
This isn't helpful.
Very clear instructions, thanks
